Tutorial also walks though removal and reinstallation of the side plates. This is soooooo worth doing! And as mentioned in the video, if you try it, and don't like it, it peels off. Let me know what you think.
I used the following items to paint this, though any dips should do:
Plum Purple Dip - amzn.to/3psAX9W
Spray paint holder - amzn.to/3eWN1LD (not the exact one I got, since i couldn't find the same one)
Here are some colors i thought would also look rad:

Many people also recommend adding a glossifier. I didn't do it but planned on it depending on how mine ended up:

I showed this to a friend and he brought up the concern with the material causing the heat distribution to worsen. After a couple of months or so can you report back on any downsides to plasti dipping? And if you ever peel it off can you make a video of it?

I made it but i used the Spider emblem Stencil Miles used on the animated movie. So it looks like the red is runny. Used the same material (PlastiDip)

Here is a tip for beginners : first try the paint on plastic spoons to know the consistency and the shade
No all you need is a white background my dad dips cars plum crazy is a bright color and you need 6 coats for ot to peel off right

@@hrdgms27 On the top pannel left on the left side, the bottom lift on the right. I scuffed my top on as well but the bottom came off with ease. Put the top on, tried the opposite side and it works wonders, pulls off with ease.

Maybe I just missed it, the last step would be to apply a few layers of a clear coat(probably Matte) to add that layer of protection against nicks/dents that may occur while moving.
I cant see the benefit of doing that with plastidip.

@@waveexistence3512 because plastidip is a rubberized coating and not spray paint. It is removable (it can peel off). Adding clear coat to plastidip isn't going to offer any additional protection. It was a poor suggestion given the product used in the video.

Take your time and cover up the parts you dont want to paint i am guessing you would just need to paint the top of the controller right is there a way you could do that if you don't want to take one apart? Or maybe buy another controller and try it 🤔 your call.

As soon as I saw how easy the panels are to remove, I've been thinking of customising them purple. Great to get to see what that would look like and it's fantastic :)

Precisely the color I would go for. If it doesn’t create any problem in terms of heat dissipation (if the paint somehow makes the faceplate get too hot), I’m definitely doing it and I’m doing it purple! :)

You did well, I paint aircrafts for a living. Instead of painting one spot like the edge then moving a whole pattern over and doing another pass. You should start your first pass 50% over the edge, then each pass over laps by 50% the pass before. It’s called moving the wet line. This will stop streaking or tiger striping. Also you should start on the inside first so you don’t overspray the outer surface. With that said it turned out great.
I'm taking mine down to a friend's spray shop and having mine dipped in chrome.

I'm doing mine as we speak, I might have went a little to heavy on my first coat, But it looking fine the way it is now, gonna see what happens after it dries. I might have been a little to close while spraying, still looks shiny.
How did it end up? The shine should eventually dry away
@@adamninja So far so good, it looks baller, I didn’t know it had these sparkly spec in the paint make, gonna let them dry tonight and they put it together, might spray a few missing spots but so far it looks amazing, I’ll take some pictures and figure out a way to post them, oh and I did it with one can of the stuff, gonna give my bro the second can so he can do it for his PS5. I’ll update you in the morning. Love it so far

When I get home from deployment I’m thinking about trying something similar once I can get my hands on a PS5. I hate the white look but I think a nice M81 camo pattern in matte will look much better. Cool to see how easy it is. Any idea if the front glossy black faceplate would be receptive to being painted? Is it easy to remove? I was hoping to do that, sandpaper it so it’ll take paint better, and give it it’s own custom look.
At first I was mad he took it apart but after seeing the results I’m going this as soon as I get my ps5🔥🔥

Great video, if i were to dip my PS5 i would do the whole back side instead of dipping the edges only because that center area with the light coat would be hard to remove later on if you wanna remove it.

You're going to have a hard time peeling with only four coats. If you ever want to remove it as one sheet easily it would be eight coats. and on the back side I would have taped off the center so you don't have to rub off extra particles from overspray, if the backside matters to you at all. it could look cool with 15 different colors of paint on the back kind of like a memory of everything that it was the many times you painted it

Cool video. A good idea for when spraying would be to hang the plates (vertically) from some time of single wire-bound apparatus. It makes it a lot easier to get both sides without having to flip back and forth. Really good and sharp looking paint job. Awesome color.

For the 50 people asking the same question here, this doesn’t void your warranty because those side panels are meant to be removed by the end user, your warranty is only voided If you try to go deeper into the console where the motherboard is, there is a sticker that breaks if you try going deeper and that’s how Sony knows that your warranty is voided.

kinda reminds me of the issue with the switch when people kept scratching the bezel on the dock during its launch.

Looks amazing but just a heads up. You should of just painted the whole inside. Having it faded in the middle to white is not thick enough to peel off. You will need to use goo gone to get it off and the tabs are going to be a nightmare to get off but years down the road, no one is going to care what the inside looks like I suppose

I sprayed my entire motorbike in plum crazy, a tzr in britain...was wicked cool.
Only reason I'm not doing this is due to all the faults the PS5 is getting, just in case I have to return it

I custom paint ps4 pros (my most recent was giving the top and bottom shell a flat or matte white with matte clear coat to look like the ps5) and I must stress like he did, BE PATIENT AND APPLY LIGHT COATS AT A TIME. If you don't, it will look bumpy and uneven with its texture. I do recommend that if you paint yours, use a clear coat spray as well, matte clear coat for flat colour and enamel or gloss clear coat if the colour is a gloss. From personal experience, this guy did his console perfectly and as I said, be patient!

“Black plasti-dip is excellent for spraying the semi hard foam inside gun cases. Looks better and extends the life of the foam over time.
I’ve been planning on doing this exact thing. Good to see someone did as well

Definitely shouldn't. Sony made the side plates to be interchangeable and customizable. It's even possibly why they made them a flat white canvas.
@@adamninja At the very least as long as you aren't spraying the unit assembled, there should be no reason why the electronics should be damaged by removing the plates.

Wonder if you put some removable stickers on before painting it you could have a design of some sort on the PS5. Peel off stickers after it dries? A white design
Yeah, definitely could. But you'd want to peel the stickers off before it dries or it'll tear into the rest of the dip
I am Japanese. In Japan, no one was painting the computer side (?) Of the PS5, so it was very helpful! If you buy it, I will paint it in red, black, pink or blue, light blue, and yellow! Can you translate it?
