Haha when I was a kid I was taught to just loosen the axle nut, adjust each tensioner screw the same amount of flats on each side and tighten the nut again anf off ya go! 🤣🤣 I used to eyeball how straight the wheel was.. good thing I didn't work in a shop🤣🤣🤣
I just got into Enduro riding I got a 2022 DRZ400. I replaced the 5050 tires with some Dunlop Knobbies and the shop I worked with put my chain on super tight. I’m very mechanically inclined but every TH-cam video I watched was so fucking confusing. Thank you for the simplicity haha and informational video dude, honestly.
ahhhhhhh! using a ruler to measure the axle block / swingarm distance is an awesome idea. ive always struggled with the swingarm markings, your method is much better! and that rag trick, spot on man.
I gasped when he said, this is a chain ready to make a hole in the engine..😅😂. Great video. Wish you all the best. Hope you're doing well. I remember watching your videos, before working on dirt bikes. I've taken apart over 5 dirt bikes since then. Thanks for all the videos.
I'm new to owning my own bike, but have riden for most of my life. I just bought a used 08 YZ 450 (50th anniversary) bike. It needs some TLC, including the chain. This video did help, however do you know a price point for a new one would be? Thanks man, I appreciate it!
A more accurate method is to measure from the swingarm pivot to the middle of the axle. Measuring to end of the swingarm may be wrong as the manufacturing of the swingarm may be long or short on either side. Measuring from the swingarm pivot avoids this problem and ensures axle EXACTLY the same each side
recently got a 2000 CR250 and I'm looking into a new chain/sporockets. I have narrowed it down to D.I.D. VX2 (VXGB) or a VT2, do you have a recommendation perhaps? I'm a noob so I'll be doing some basic enduro riding, and I'm looking for a chain that will last long with proper care. Cheers!
Hey Cameron, awesome video. Question for you. I have a 89 RM250 old school two stroke. It doesn’t have chain rollers, or a chain guide. Is this critical?
Hope you guys learned something?! I DID!!! I learned that my chain is fukd! My chain height is 6 fingers or 3.75 inches! Thanks for the vid, you probably saved me from gettin wrecked hard. 🤘
I always screw up the adjustment and end up spending far more time than I should adjusting and re-adjusting. I am going to be adjusting the chain on my Enduro this Friday.
I like the video. Noticed that the rear sprocket chain guard is slightly different from my 04. Hey, I wanted to ask, in one of your videos to clean aluminium you were talking about a cleaner you using. I didn't get the name and not sure if you get that same product in Australia. I want to clean my aluminium part like that too. Keep up with the videos.
at 2:30 you mention to check the distance from the axle-block to the back of the swingarm.. would it also be sufficient to look at the marks on top of the block to check the distance on both sides? possibly with a ruler if it's in between markings?
The markings on the axle blocks are used to check distance and align, but I've found them to be difficult to read and unreliable once the axle blocks get worn. It's quicker and more effective to use a ruler in my opinion.
Cameron Niemela not sure if it's true for all bikes, but my blocks have marks directly on center with the axle. I use that as a datum and count marks ahead or behind center. They don't seem to wear like the other marks and are not affected by slow deformation of the blocks over time.
It seems like it's so hard to make sure you have the nut even on both sides. The wheel moves around a ton in the video. Also the tightening in the video was uneven you did 3 turns on the left and the video clip cut at 5 turns? But then at the end you make sure the blocks are all the way forward after you do the reading. Maybe the video just seemed in weird order. So it's losen the axel nut. Then losen the locking nut on both sides? Then thread in or out the adjustment? Then push the blocks forward, do the reading, then push the wheel all the way forward with a rag (which wouldn't that throw off the adjustment and all the work you just did?) Then tighten up the axel with the rag still inside?
i have an apollo and the chain keeps popping off when i try to go up the slightest hill. Wtf is that I'm sick of it doing that, it's starting to eat through pieces of the axle and nuts everytime it pops off the wheel spins rapidly and starts eating thru stuff smh 😓
@@forfrigsakes3330 it's about 3 fingers andna half its suppose to be 3 ish...its a tad baby bit loose but ibhave a crf 250r 2020 and its different than my kx 450 so I'm iffy on doing this one
You said "spec" with a ruler is 1" to 1.25". Manual on my 2007 WR250F says 1.9" to 2.3". So, I assume there's not a one size fits all spec here. Does this sound right or, am I missing something? Thanks.
This is the video I wanted! Clean. Concise. Well spoken. No stupid music twice the volume of ur voice. 10/10
Been working on bikes over 15 years and just learned the rag in the sprocket trick. Great vids man.
I can't remember where I picked that up from but seems to work great. Thanks for watching the video!
Hey man, what can I do if one of the two bolts that alines the tire is rolled :(

Thanks again, such a wealth of info on your channel for a begginer like myself. Clearly spoken, and strait to the point. Thanks man.

Great video i like that u included the sizes of bolts as well most dont

I appreciate your support man!!
nice, simple and informative video for those that may need it.
Thanks! Much appreciated
Good knowledge I haven’t owed a dirt bike in years! But I’m back with some real power thanks god bless!
Thanks bro. I’ll have this playing next time I adjust.
Thank you so much man, being a kid this really helps

40-80 dollars
When you get the chain 3 finger tight where you want it and when you sit on it and chain is really tight, is that normal or no??? Thanks!
Same question here
Big debate. I believe you should check it off the stand. Bike weight only.

Preach
Do you do the 3 finger measure technique with bike on stand or bike on floor?
On the stand.
Stand is definitely better

On the floor

Thanks for watching man! I use mag wheel cleaner made by Eagle One.
Those slop measurements are with the bike on a stand and the suspension completely unloaded, yeah?
I’m only 11 and I I’m new to this stuff and I understand all of it!
Keep up the good videos 👌🏻
Is the back tire off the ground when you're measuring slack?
This was my question too. And I believe yes it’s while the rear tire is off the ground
Yo bro, nice to see you again. Have you switched to CR? I remember you had CRF250R 10-13 ?
Thanks for sticking around bud!! Yes, this CR is a personal bike. Couple bikes ago was a 2011 250.
Thanks for the info
Great video
Your videos are great! Love this stuff
Hey what’s the size wrench that you used on the locknut I’ve been looking for one but can find the right size.
Great job. Thank you.
can a too tight of a chain lock up the rear wheel when jumping on the back of the bike and compressing the rear shock?
You do this adjustment on neutral ?
Thanks bud 🤟🏻😎
Great video as always, but why a rag in the sprocket?
Because when you rotate it, it will pull the wheel forward
Great video. Slow that shutter speed down on your camera so you don't get those stripes. LED light is a pain.
And do you think they work for 125 apollo?
at 2:30 you mention to check the distance from the axle-block to the back of the swingarm.. would it also be sufficient to look at the marks on top of the block to check the distance on both sides? possibly with a ruler if it's in between markings?

Yeah could've explained that reasoning in the video a little better. Thx for watching!

Seen a video where they didn’t loosen the rear axle but so now idk what to do lol
What size wrenchs is it for the chain adjusters
Were do i find the axle blocks?
can you do a video on aluminum vs steel spockets. and o ring vs non ring chain.
Good idea! I'll keep that in mind.
just watched the CRF450 teardown video ,it was epic!

What size socket u use
Yeah I learned older bikes. Dont have as much plastic surrounding the chains.😂
An ancient bike
What do I do if one of the two bolts that alines the tire is rolled :(
What size is the axle nut ????
I have a brand new bike and the chain keeps coming loose after 2 minutes of riding could it be because each side is tighten different
Yes, that's possible or you're not bringing the axle all the way to the axle blocks when you tighten the axle
@@CameronNiemela I got it figured out once I used the right tools but I ended up snapping my chain I must have had it too tight😂
Why don’t they adjust the chain with the riders weight?
My chain has worn all the way through the chain guide. How do I fix that?
thats what happend on my crf450 so now im replacing the crankcase
I like that rear sprocket
Thanks dude!

I had an ltz400. Chain came off in 4th gear and punched a hole through the case
Do you have lineage from finland? Your last name sounds finnish
Yes, I do! My grandparents are from Finland and I have family and friends that live in Finland.
Cameron Niemela awesome man
Chuck Rock dead.
I'm afraid to tighten my chain I just dont wanna mess it up or make my back tire offset
