My two favorite parts: 1) the conversation in the diner when Bourne talks about all the things he knows, and says, "How can I know all that, and not know who I am?" That's when I was like, oh yeah, I'm in this, I love it. 2) the complex plan Jason comes up with, only for Marie to get the info they needed in a much simpler way, lol! Brilliant and funny.

The sequels kept those basics, but are also a wee bit more actiony. This first film feels so grounded, and not overacted by the two leads, I can rather easily imagine most ordinary people in either Bourne's or Marie's shoes. As part of the more grounded tone, a man like Bourne being a spy and a hitman actually makes sense, since he looks like an average Joe. Even though it's very much an early 2000s story (I still have a hard time believing it's 20 years old, remember watching it when it was new), I feel that the execution is, IMHO, rather timeless. It's like the perfect marriage of an old-school spy film with more 21st century sensibilities. Also, the Mini Cooper chase has to be my favourite car chase in any movie. As you commented during this movie you were saying and questioning most of the same things I did when I watched it the first time. Well done Jen, I'm looking forward to your next video.
The whole premise for the "fourth" one is kind of silly in my opinion. While it's plausable CIA would set out to terminate a single asset that's belived to have gone "rogue", the actions taken in 'The Bourne Legacy' isn't even remotely belivable, as the proverbial cat's already out of the bag. There's simply no reason is there's no longer anything left to protect, or to hide at that point. It would just be wasting valuable resources for no reason at all.
I actually like this film more than most Bond films. Well done! The young Matt Damon was the perfect choice, and I like that they picked a relatively unknown actress for the love interest.
Hi Jen,some really great recent choices on your channel lately. I suggested this one the last time I made comment. Speed Racer, visually stunning movie. Anime style film with more colors than I can count. A really fun movie about car racing. With a great ending. I'm sure you and your viewers will enjoy it. My favorite line from Jen: "Is one of his [Bourne's] skills, also, that he is a barber?" Franka Potente (Marie) cut her action thriller teeth in "Run Lola Run." Check it out!
The first 3 Bourne movies are all great. The 4th one with Jeremy Renner and no Matt Damon wasn't actually bad, but it wasn't anywhere near as good. One unfortunate side effect of the success of the Bourne franchise was the sudden proliferation of movies with fight sequences that are nothing but tons of quick cuts and shaky cam where you don't have any real idea of what's going on. The Bourne movies use quick cuts and shaky cams for fight sequences that feel fast and dynamic, and they make it work because they don't overuse it to the point that you can't tell what's happening in the fight. They carefully focus shots on the elements that they want you to focus on to tell the story of the fight: like the pen in the Paris apartment fight. Most other movies that jumped on the quick cuts and shaky cam bandwagon didn't do that, and instead of using it to help tell the story, they used it so that they didn't have to spend so much money making stunts and/or VFX shots look good/believable.
Hi Jen, really hope you’ll consider watching ‘Run Lola Run’ starring Franka Potente (Marie from Bourne). It’s a great late 90s action movie with a romance at the centre of it. It’s totally unique and I think you’ll love it.
Great reaction! ♥👍 The Bourne franchise is solid. I'd *highly* recommend the film that was Matt Damon's breakout role, Good Will Hunting (1997). It is a powerful drama with fantastic script and acting. Damon plays Will Hunting, a brilliant but troubled young man slumming his way through life. After assaulting a police officer he is court ordered to take psychiatric counselling or go to jail. He chooses therapy, Robin Williams is the assigned therapist, but he is also battling his own personal demons.
The whole series is really good, something I have watched several times. If you liked this one you will like the rest. The next one does have a part that is something people have gotten tears over. Great video Jen.
Jen! I love your bookshelf arranged in rainbow order! I'm too slightly OCD that I have to organize everything according to Siri's order and stuff like that, so I can never do anything cool like arranging them by color. LOL
🏃 If chase movies like this and "The Fugitive," where an innocent man is on the run to avoid either being captured or killed are what you're into, then "The Running Man" (1987) with Arnold Schwarzenegger and "The Minority Report" (2002) with Tom Cruise, should both definitely be on your future bucket list. 😎👍
Logan's run (original) would also fall into this category. I think it was a little better than the Running Man (though the book of that title is quite good).
-she told him about her dream place early in the movie; i think when they were in the car on the road to paris, that little story was how he found her.
I saw this movie with a friend who is an expert fighting with weapons of all kinds. He said this one one of the best fight movies he’d ever seen. His only criticism was the quick cuts during the fights. He thought Matt could have been very convincing with just one wide angle shot of the fight scenes.
This movie gets a lot of stick for inaugurating the era of choppily-edited, handheld, closely shot action sequences, but it's not actually that bad itself. The action scenes are chaotic, much like actual combat, but the movements and developments still read pretty well. Other movies that want the same feel seem to opt more for slow motion or outright having the action happen out of sight. The Equalizer does both, and I imagine Nobody (which I haven't seen yet) probably does as well.
Not enough TH-camrs, big or small have watched this movie. SO glad I found you, and the movies get better with each one. Just make sure you stop after the 3rd one
LOVE IT!!! This is my favourite movie trilogy of all time. The intrigue, the mystery and the action. The last time I checked there's another two films after the trilogy that are still great films but the original trilogy are the best IMHO,can't wait for you to watch the rest 👍👍👍
IMHO, The Bourne Franchise originates many more pop/movie references than you'd expect, until you look back at it. I hope you enjoy this first great movie that started so much in this action intensive genre.

Hey Jen, you mentioned the video game Hitman and they actually made a movie based on that staring Timothy Olyphant back in 2007. The Bourne movies are all really good to dive into, and I enjoyed your reaction to the first one and you were pretty spot on throughout. I look forward to the next one 🙂

If you liked Franka Potente (Marie) you should check out Run Lola Run. Warning - it's in German, with subtitles.... and it's kinda ....experimental... they play with the story structure. I'm pretty sure you'll find it at least interesting and hopefully enjoyable. It's a very unique movie (I mean that as a GOOD thing).
About 20 summers ago, the Bourne Saga on film began. Unquestionably one of the best spy franchises. Anybody would want to be James Bond. But for me, Jason Bourne was more my speed. I have the special edition of The Bourne identity with an alternate beginning and ending. The novel series by Robert Ludlum (beginning in 1980, my birth year) showed Bourne as an reluctant hero. With all he learned and knew as an operative, nobody was going to stop the bad guys better than he could. After uncovering each and every conspiracy he faced, peace was the closest thing to victory.
I really love this franchise, in all its forms. I loved the 1988 mini series with Richard Chamberlain and Jaclyn Smith. I loved the books. And I love this series of movies. It's a great concept, and they're all executed brilliantly.
I just wrote the same thing about that mini series. It stuck with the plot of the book for almost 99% of the movie and was far superior to the we'll-make-up-our-own-plot 2002 movie.
The original trilogy are all excellent thriller movies in the same style. The spin-off Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner is also very good and well worth watching for your channel. The 5th, just called Jason Bourne, is a little less good but still worth watching. Julia Stiles has much more to do in the next two and she and Joan Allen are excellent female characters in a genre which often only has them as eye candy. Another excellent reaction, thanks Jen 👍
This trilogy of movies are one of the best spy movies made. This movie also started the trend of up close to the hand-to-hand combat, which no other movie was able to come close to (annoyingly). Thankfully that trend is over by now. Edit: The bad guy agent is played by Clive Owen. He's been in Sin City, King Arthur (2004), Closer and many more movies. He has a decent track record of movies.
Quality reaction and commentary to such a good movie/series! One of my grandmas favourites, I hope you continue this series it's 100% worth it, thank you as always for the content momma!🙏
Couple facts: 1 - the movie in no way resembles the book by Robert Ludlum; the book was about, like, hunting Carlos the Jackal. Just... so different. 2 - I think the next 2 movies (plus there's a Jeremy Renner 4th one) aren't nearly as good. They make a few decisions that I just disagree with; can't get into that without spoilers 3 - Doug Liman, who also directed the fantastic - and fantastically fun - "Edge of Tomorrow"
Watching this movie at the time it came out was really cool. This was the first badass movie from The "Bourne series. This is my favorite one out of all of them. This is one of my favorite go to movies,I have the entire collection. I really didn't expect you to watch this amazing movie. I'm really happy you did,and ofc I truly enjoyed watching this with you "Jen.Murray . . . This is my favorite and the others are more emotional and also very good. You wondered where he found her at the end. At some point earlier in the movie, she was wearing a "Corfu" top. It looks like Corfu, or at least how my mind's eye recalls from many years ago.
Excellent reaction Jen! Glad you enjoyed it, and I hope to see you react to the next 2 Bourne films, really anything with Matt Damon, is worth watching, I reccomend you check out Ocean's 11, that is an excellent film and Damon is great in that one as well, think you would enjoy it, take care Jen!!..😄😄😄
So these films are based on books by acclaimed thriller writer Robert Ludlum. If you love really good spy assassin thrillers they make for excellent reading, or if you don’t have the time to read the audiobooks on Audible read by Scott Brick are excellent too. They don’t share much in common though, minus the titles and the basic plot of an assassin losing his memory and wanting his identity back, the locations, some character names and several moments of action. Other than that, totally different plots. The books are more Cold War espionage than the movies, about Bourne realising he’s an assassin meant to draw out a notorious assassin, which was changed in the movies to make him the target of his own organisation in order to prevent him whistleblowing through his actions.
Jen, The Bourne films are mainly good, the next two are the best, 'The Bourne Supremacy', 'The Bourne Ultimatum', the following one wasn't so good, The Bourne Legacy, it didn't star Matt Damon, Matt Damon came back for 'Jason Bourne'. Other good films to check out are 'Salt' with Angela Jolie, and 'Narrow Margin' with Gene Hackman.
Keep in mind there is the trilogy, and then also a stand-alone follow movie called The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, and Edward Norton. It seems that 4th one flies under the radar, don't hear many talking about it. But it's very good and has some A List actors in it including an Oscar Winner.

I thought it was the worst thing they could have done, I loved the gadgets and the comedic elements, for me that’s what separated Bourne from Bond.

I liked, "The Bourne Legacy" more than you. Like many, I was caught off guard because Damon wasn't in it, but I ended up really enjoying it.
Hi Jen, really hope you’ll consider watching ‘Run Lola Run’ starring Franka Potente (Marie from Bourne). It’s a great late 90s action movie with a romance at the centre of it. It’s totally unique and I think you’ll love it.
A lot of people didn't think Matt Damon could pull off playing a spy or do fight scenes but he sure proved them wrong.
The favorite scene for my recently deceased brother was when Jason took down the evacuation sign off the wall. 6:55
I know the scene you're talking about. And that always resonated with me. I'm glad they wrote that scene.
Jason's dive through the stair-well was awesome!
Probably the best trilogy I’ve ever seen
"A Matt Damon floating." Love it. Fun channel. Thanks for it. ❤
You should watch Run Lola Run with the girl from this (Franka Potente) it's one of the funnest action movies you will ever see.
Another rewatch for you, Jen, I'm doing this trilogy for your channel.
Happy to be here 😊
IMHO, The Bourne Franchise originates many more pop/movie references than you'd expect, until you look back at it. I hope you enjoy this first great movie that started so much in this action intensive genre.
You will definitely enjoy this franchise
the girl is Franka Potente, a german actress, making her first steps in Hollywood at that time
the island at the end is Mykonos/Greece. It have's a high recognition value
I've ben there as a teeanger with my parents on a holiday.
Hi Jen. All of the Bourne movies are worth the watch. Also since you like plot twists and turns and movies with amazing actors (if you haven't already seen it) give The Sting with Paul Newman and Robert Redford a try. Great movie.
Bourne Ultimatum coming Monday! 👍
@@jenmurrayxo Excellent. You are a Matt Damon fan. Ever see he and Edward Norton in Rounders? Good movie also.
That was a really great movie. Kind of a similar theme to Bourne in some ways, and Oliphant is great in it. The action sequences are fantastic.
I'm sure Timothy remembers fondly his time on that movie. They say an Olyphant never forgets. 🐘
Really enjoying going through all your reactions on my wisdom nugget search 🙂 i watched all these movies in the cinema and theu were fantastic on the big screen so good , i even enjoyed legacy but its not well liked tbh however jason bourne is really good and I'm surprised you have yet to see it although this could have just stopped ar ultimatum and would have been great regardless but i recommend the 5th one for sure and seeing that mini zooming around the streets makes me think you would have a great time with the Italian job the Michael Caine one or the remake both are a fun time 🎉 . " Get him You got him " he sure did jen clive owen who is great in the Bananas movie shoot em up . Ok im stopping movie dropping now 😅cheers for another truly wonderful reaction jen 🙌
Franka Potente, who played Marie, stared in a movie called Run Lola Run a few years before this role. It's well worth the 80 minute runtime.
Wish I could see them again for the first time, pretty solid movies
If you liked Franka Potente (Marie) you should check out Run Lola Run. Warning - it's in German, with subtitles.... and it's kinda ....experimental... they play with the story structure. I'm pretty sure you'll find it at least interesting and hopefully enjoyable. It's a very unique movie (I mean that as a GOOD thing).
Really enjoying your reactions, Jen. Thank you.
@@bighuge1060 It's not like I don't like this action movie. BUT, in an era when TV mini series were generally really cheesy, it stood out as quality.
@@nathandavis5099 It was definitely a great looking production. Great location work and cinematography.
I was really really looking forward to you starting the Bourne series. Thank you.
This is a great film! Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum are both fantastic sequels.
These movies inspired me to read the books they're based on.
They're really pretty good, but wildly different. Very very different.
Yep. It's just the beginning!!, 2 and 3 are well worth watching!!👍👍👍🙋
Yes, The Bourne Supremacy will be out later this week!! 👍👍
@@jenmurrayxo Woo! Looking forward to that for sure, thank you in advance!😁
Great video! Love your reactions!
“This guy?!”… lol.. Yeah, an underrated classic, for sure.. Good action, interesting story..
Couple facts:
1 - the movie in no way resembles the book by Robert Ludlum; the book was about, like, hunting Carlos the Jackal. Just... so different.
2 - I think the next 2 movies (plus there's a Jeremy Renner 4th one) aren't nearly as good. They make a few decisions that I just disagree with; can't get into that without spoilers
3 - Doug Liman, who also directed the fantastic - and fantastically fun - "Edge of Tomorrow"
Oh I did Edge of Tomorrow on my channel 👍
An Austin Mini as the perfect getaway car? They should make a movie about that! Oh, wait... 😅
I've seen all of these in the theater. Let's go!
The second the screen shows both of their faces close up: "Oooh I hope they kiss."
Hooraaaaaaayyyyy! Someone is doing the Bourne movies!
I hope you have a nice wonderful day 🙌
I enjoy your nervous fidgeting. Very fitting for this film.
You wondered where he found her at the end. At some point earlier in the movie, she was wearing a "Corfu" top. It looks like Corfu, or at least how my mind's eye recalls from many years ago.
One of my favorite action movies. I think Bourne got a hint where Marie might hide when she wore that t-shirt with "Corfu" after that night in Paris.
The second one is DEFINATELY the best one. You don't want to miss it :)
Excellent reaction Jen! Glad you enjoyed it, and I hope to see you react to the next 2 Bourne films, really anything with Matt Damon, is worth watching, I reccomend you check out Ocean's 11, that is an excellent film and Damon is great in that one as well, think you would enjoy it, take care Jen!!..😄😄😄
yes, the ocean's films are great!
This is one of the few trilogies where each movie gets better.
Enjoyed your reaction Jen, and I'm also a fan of the Hitman video game series.
Amazing series!! 👍🔥
I just realized that Jen keeps her books in rainbow order.
Loved the Bourne series and was surprised to find a much earlier version with Richard Chamberlain in the title role. A pretty good film.
your vids are so much fun, since ive seen most of the movies you react to
So these films are based on books by acclaimed thriller writer Robert Ludlum.
“A handsome Matt Damon…” Priorities. 🤣
11:19: what is that, a pen?
Yep, the pen is mightier than the sword ;-)
Keep in mind there is the trilogy, and then also a stand-alone follow movie called The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, and Edward Norton. It seems that 4th one flies under the radar, don't hear many talking about it. But it's very good and has some A List actors in it including an Oscar Winner.
