The amount of love they put on their puppy is absolutely genuine, the moment the window broke , this family’s initial concern was to look for their puppy’s well being and I was moved and had a brink of an emotional meltdown and I just thank God that they’re safe. Hopefully the whole People in the Island could recover soon.
Mmmm....do you think that it would have been more appropriate to have ensured that the dog was safe well before the typhoon approached? I mean its not like they didnt have enough warning.
Philippines is a lovely and beautiful country but in reality it is not safe to live in anymore due to natural disasters such as typhoon, earthquake, volcano eruption etc. Guess it is time to move somewhere relatively safe to live. Sad but true.
J is right. Their house is made of concrete and strong. Others aren’t and got destroyed. So locals would need more help. J will help he said….so kind of him!
Finn thank you for helping our Kababayan! I watched your vlog you made a relief effort thank you so much! More success to you! Your blessings is coming X100!!!
@@dianaeggen2434 obviously the girl was with them and the dog was out of their sight hence the frantic calling for Poppy ,all three of them called Poppy .
The storm in the Philippines is getting stronger and scarier as the years passed. Climate change is real. I will never be over the trauma of experiencing this kind of strong typhoon. We are glad that you are safe. Sending warm hugs and prayers.
good grief, global warning.......are you mad this typhoon was only gusts of around 250 kph, they can get up over 350. sure not nice to be caught in. but with days of notice they could've been way better prepared. there's an absolute abundance of information on the internet. they should count their blessings.
The saying from your grandma that "Keep the windows slightly open when the typhoon passes" is actually to keep your roof intact preventing it from blowing up. It's actually to minimise the pressure difference building up between outside and the indoor because the wind is speedier outside and still in inside ☺️. Taught in our Physics Class.
"Opening your windows during a hurricane or tornado can cause large-scale structural damage to your house. When air enters your home with a significant amount of force, it will need a way to exit. If the wind is strong enough, it may blow the roof off of your home!" "The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety recommends that you close all interior doors and all windows for major wind storms including hurricanes. That’s because wind that enters a home through open windows creates strong upward pressure on the home’s roof. Keeping the doors and windows closed helps to compartmentalize the pressure and reduce the force on the roof which gives it a better chance to stay intact. As pressure keeps rising your home’s roof may eventually blow apart allowing water to come pouring in and flood your home and belongings. Keeping your doors and windows closed reduces the force on your roof and helps it stay put. In addition to closing exterior windows and doors, it’s also recommended that you close all interior doors as well." "Some who believe this claim think strong winds from severe storms like hurricanes and tornados will pass through the house, creating less structural damage. Our sources said leaving windows open is a recipe for disaster. Not only will wind, rain and debris damage the interior but could destroy your whole home. The Insurance Institute for Business And Home Safety said winds that enter through open windows or doors create upward pressure on the home’s roof. IBHS conducted a test simulating hurricane-force winds. A home with an open front door was placed next to a home where all doors and windows were shut. After applying the hurricane-force winds, the roof flew off the home with the open door."
You were right. That calm moment at 20:32 was the eye of the storm and the winds that took out the kubo was the first wall of the eye. This was very similar to my experience with Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 when it hit Coron which is a very identical touristy island to Siargao. I'm glad your family is safe! You will feel hopeless for the first few weeks because of the destruction and death of every vegetation you could possibly see over the horizon but Siargao will rebuild again, the leaves will grow again, the flowers will bloom again, the birds will sing their songs again, and its people will rise up from the ashes which is a sight to behold/ an experience worth experiencing just like what I experienced in Coron. Stay strong!
I litterally am crying and had goosebumps watching this. I'm so happy you are all safe. This may be a sad vlog but it made me happy as well knowing you are all safe. Take care always xx
Ngl but I was more offended at the fact that they had a car and could have easily have drove to a shelter or a more secure place. Or a place that wasn’t in the path of the storm But instead they remained home….AT A BEACH IF THAT- THEY ARE HELLA LUCKY TO BE ALIVE NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A STORM. (The fact that they didn’t try escape and put not just there life’s BUT THERE CHILDS in danger is sad as hell.)
Your daughter is so precious, taping her beautiful picture of the sun on the darkened part of the window! I am relieved to see that you were alright. It was a video that was quite hard to watch, I can only imagine how y’all felt going through this typhoon.
Just a friendly advice who's been through many storms here in PH. Never settle for "i think we're gonna be ok"... It's because of that thinking that i've witnessed many deaths years back when all hell broke loose when the Typhoon finally hit. Luckily it was only 240~260kph of gustiness compared to truly terrifying 300 to 400kph ones with higher water concentration.
It's better that it was happened at day time unlike sendong typhoon in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City on Dec. 17, 2011. Many people died that time because it was at midnight.... sleeping time for us and no electricity during the typhoon....Those people who were awake that time, they didn't know where to go because it was very quick flood mixed with mud.
I agree. Same thing that happened back in 2013 when typhoon Yolanda(Haiyan) which was the strongest storm ever recorded hit Tacloban and Leyte at night. The super strong wind plus storm surge just washed out everything. Imagine being in the middle of the storm all dark, cold, wet and everything chaotic that you can imagine. 💔 I remember some workmates in Cebu crying coz their friends and relatives from Tacloban and Leyte can no longer be found after the storm. It was very very heart heart breaking 😭💔 For anyone living in tropical islands/country just like the Philippines, never ever underestimate a typhoon even it was announced by the media as signal #1 days before landfall, it could always strengthen in just a few hours before landfall, same as what happened with typhoon Odette(Rai) last December 16, 2021. Praying for recovery to all those affected by the typhoon. 🙏🏻
They should never have been there in the first place...how many videos have they since released? Lets hope that all of the earnings will be going towards other victims, and there are alot more deserving people than this lot.
As a Floridian who just experienced back to back hurricanes 🌀 and many other ones from the past, I can say, this was not smart to do, and I say that respectfully, because many people in my State of Florida lost their homes because they were to stubborn to leave their homes, they stayed there and lost everything from flooding to strong winds, if you live on the edge of the water or near a beach, listen! I don't care how high you think you are, you need to get out of there because it's not worth risking your life, that wind is strong enough to push that water up to that house and totally destroy it, luckily for him that didn't happen and that the family is ok, but this should be a learning lesson for anyone who chooses not to listen.
You're the first people that came in to my mind when I heard the storm hit Siargao badly. I'm so glad all of you are okay. Praying for healing and recovery for the people of Siargao and all those affected by the typhoon. Stay strong Jay, Sasha, Storg and Poppy!
You're now becoming Filipino by surpassing the challenges like typoon in the Philippines. That's why Filipinos are strong. May the Lord protect this family.
I have been crying for a week for the Philippines. The Vloggers there whom I found during the beginning of the Pandemic became like family. I have binged watched this family from Thailand to England to Portugal. People I have grown to love especially that beautiful baby girl. I breathe a sigh of relief today this Christmas morning in the US to see this video. God's blessings and remember HE never gives us more than we can handle. HE moved your mom out because she would've been devastated being there at her age. My love to this family you will come back stronger.♥️🙏
So glad you are safe. So so sorry to see how scary that was and the damage. Thinking of you and made a donation to those raising money here in the USA for the Philippines and help for Odette. Sending you the biggest hugs, from one expat Brit to another. Stay safe xx
Just hoping the donation will go to the people bec.when Yolanda struck a lot of people donated aswell but in the end they just fond a warehouse full of the donation rice and can good all moldy and wasted .
If you plan to donate, please donate to nature kids of siargao. They run a Non-government organization in siargao called "ate" and good friends of eight miles from home. They have a youtube channel. The bank account details are in the description box.
That was frightening. I’m glad everyone is safe. The house will take some time, but the life inside is more important. I was putting my prayers for people less fortunate in more vulnerable places on the island.
I cried so much when the wind broke down your window and hearing Story crying. 😭 I have PTSD from typhoon Yolanda 8 years ago. It crushed our houses into pieces. I how you guys felt. How terrified you are for your safety. So good to see you are well and safe. Sending lots of love. 💕
I love how Story is a ray of sunshine. Hope she won’t get traumatized with what happened and will grow to be a strong person that people can draw strength from not to mention to love the Philippines even more. Thanks Sacha and Jay for bringing up a wonderful being in this world. You are an inspiration. And for taking care of Poppy like a part of the family. Hope you’ll still see the good in the Philippines even if you have experienced this kind of devastation. Sorry if I’m flooding the comment section, but you are such an inspiration. And for that, I would like to thank the Universe for your lives.
@@SagebrushRambles bro her fathers worried for her. shed be just as scared if he wasnt screaming. Imagine a father being worried for his daughters safety -_-
First time to see your channel. I'm following lots of channels on Odette. My wife is in Mandaluyong and I'm in Toronto, Canada. These storms terrify me because she, and my extended family, (In Laws), are all there. I hope you're all safe and healthy. Things can be replaced and repaired. Lives are most precious. If the pup is hiding in a specific area, you should shelter in the same area. Animals instinctively know how to find the safest place possible to be during storms. Wherever the pup goes, follow her yourselves, and stay away from the windows. Next storm it would be wise to place plywood over the windows on the outside of the house, bolted into the walls around the windows to protect from violent glass blowouts. Keep Safe Always, Matt - Toronto, Canada
Watching from the UK where most people are unaware of what has happened there. Glad you're all okay, stay strong. Hoping that everyone affected by Odette has a quick recovery. We'll continue to watch your unique point of view as foreigners in the Philippines. Thanks for documenting what see and giving us an insight into what's going on. For what it's worth Merry Christmas
All filipinos are aware of the typhoons coming to the philippines every year, there are about 22 typhoons coming in the country every year, we used to experience such typhoons every year, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, terrorism etc..
It’s been one year, but everything remains very vivid. It was the afternoon of Dec. 16, 2021, when the atmosphere turned gloomy-dark clouds started to devour the light, winds started to rumble, and rain started to pour torrentially. People flocked to the nearest evacuation center, bringing with them their most valued belongings just before Supertyphoon “Odette” made its landfall. Fear and anxiety were vividly painted on everyone’s faces. What seemed to be on everyone’s mind was how this frightening cataclysm was about to rampage the entire archipelago. But in my house, everything seemed normal. I was just watching television for the hourly status report of the typhoon while gulping hot, aromatic coffee. On the other hand, my Titas were busy packing things and putting fenders on the most vulnerable part of our 90-year-old ancestral house. Some of my cousins were still in bed, relishing the wind that was perfect for procrastination. We have all decided to stay home amidst the menace of this approaching apocalypse. It was around 1 p.m. when the wind strengthened. I was starting to feel uneasy hearing the scary sounds outside. I told my Titas and Lola to stay calm as we stayed together in our sala. However, my curiosity over what was happening outside got the better of me and brought me on my feet to our window. I peeped through a small crack in our jalousie to check the scene outside. What was unleashed to my naked eye filled me with awe, for indeed it was a horrifying sight. The wind was blowing from east to west, the deafening sound of needle-like rain was poking on our and our neighbors’ roofs, the trees were swaying in every direction, the surroundings have become misty, and the sea, five-meters away from our house, has started to spew monstrous waves. Our once paradisiacal place has been thrown into limbo. I was about to rest when, all of a sudden, we heard a bizarre sound echoing from the ground. In just a blink of an eye, we saw how our colossal, century-old mango tree was uprooted in one blow. We were all flabbergasted and alarmed by the strength of this devastating weather disturbance. An hour later, the rain and wind became more violent. I could hear the wind whistling and our house withstanding the force outside, its foundations reeling. I saw everyone was in tears as fear started to take over us. I was really worried about our safety inside our old, dilapidated house, and all I could do was pray-this somehow helped me calm down. Outside, winds continued to ravage, and I saw how our window was shattered into pieces. The opening from that broken window gave me a glimpse of the horrible scene outside. I saw how our neighbor’s roof was practically ripped off by the wind. Corrugated sheets were being blown away just like sheets of paper, while some houses were being crumpled in the storm. All of a sudden, a raucous sound jolted us all-it was our roof! The wind had swept away the top of our house. It was then we all saw, literally, the complete magnitude of this calamity. What was happening outside was a real nightmare that no one ever imagined. The storm continued to rage and had become even more violent. Everything became hazy-nothing could be seen outside due to zero visibility. While the disaster continued to wreak havoc on our hometown, we huddled inside our small room and covered ourselves with blankets to cocoon us from Odette’s frightening claws. We patiently waited inside while we prayed for our safety. It was around six in the evening when the unnerving wailing of the ferocious winds and rains finally calmed down. The silence and darkness outside was just a facet of the aftermath of this catastrophe as if it never happened. When we finally went outside to have a look, what we saw were shocking images. Debris was everywhere, corrugated sheets hung from branches, trunks of trees were scattered all over. All the horrors brought by Odette. It was truly the longest five hours of my life-five hours when my family and I were on the brink of being swept away, or worse, on the brink of death.
Just sat & cried on Christmas morning because it was awful heartbreaking hearing Story screaming & Jay shouting Poppy. OMG watching a family you feel like family to you go through this is heartbreaking. I’m just so glad your all ok guys. Can you set up a fund me so we can all help. Hope there is some normality in all this devastation that there is food & water, somewhere to sleep safely. Much love from the U.K. xxxx
That scream from Story….wow! That terror can be traumatic and leave an emotional scar! She might be okay after, but bad memories will come back. J and Sacha are strong parents!
Guys, do not skip ads pls. It's the least we can do to support this family. I am glad they are okay. Story is such a ray of sunshine in this dark moments. Sending love from Davao ❤💚
Let's support our favorite channel by not skipping ads and sharing the video to our friends and families. This video has now reached almost 700k views. Road to 1M views to help Jay and his family generate more revenue to augment their needs and to support their pledge to help the island's rehabilitation and recovery.
Im trying to do my bit by not skipping ads and have on even when not watching.i need to head over to finn snows chanel as believe he has done alot to belp the people
“This place is going to need our help” I love that you’re not only thinking about your family but everyone else’s as well. It will take the whole community to team together to rebuild everything! It may take time, but it will happen and you all will be stronger for it! Glad you’re all safe! That was traumatizing to watch and listen to, I couldn’t image being there in person! That’s super scary!!!
'Just broke my heart. 'Just broke my heart. Seeing the aftermath is just beyond words. I'm relieved knowing that all of you are safe and spared. Teared and choked up on what your family and fellow filipinos have gone through. Siargao has a soft spot in my heart. I've visited the island 30 years ago when I worked on a rural electrification project funded by World Bank. From a sleepy island known only by a few locals and international tourists on its unrivaled white sand beaches, waves for surfing, local hospitality, to a world class tourist destination. Now is devastated. It will take a collective effort to bring the island back to its former glory. It will take a strong leadership and one vision to bring this national gem back to its luster that brought countless smiles and great memories to those who were privileged to set foot in this island paradise. We've sent help and will be here for more. From Los Angeles, CA with ❤ and 🙏.
It amazes me the people who live in direct line of Mother Nature’s violent path and are shocked when history repeat’s itself. Tropical weather in the tropics is a given!
You guys have been in my thoughts since the storm hit. I’ve even said a prayer or two. Sorry for the damages. But the blessing is that the four of you came out unscathed. God is good!
This was heartbreaking, I'm so sorry you guys had to experience that! Bit of advice, always put your pet on a leash during a storm so they can't run away!! Glad you're all safe
"it makes a little bit of sunshine to the black windows..." aww I love how children can calm you down thru innocent efforts. I pray and wish you safety and recovery along with other victims of Odette.
Knowing you’re all okay has made my mother and I cry from relief thank goodness 💛 my mother has been so worried because she knows it all too well. She grew up in a poor small island here in bicol, philippines and when she was a kid there was a super typhoon (anding) that completely destroyed her barangay and the people she knew pass away, even seeing their bodies wash ashore after the storm. She even thought she was going to die which is so heartbreaking to know. Last year we also had a pretty strong typhoon which destroyed some parts of our roof but everything was fine but it was still so scary so I can’t even imagine. As long as everyone is okay, that’s what only matters. I hope for everyone’s fast recovery, sending you all love and happy holidays 💛
The most important is your lives. Damage Things will definitely can fix soon. The typhoon was strong but you guys were stronger. Don't lose hope everyone 🙏🙏 🇵🇭🇵🇭 LOVE YOU GUYS!!
I’m so relieved that you’re okay, although through a terrible trauma. I am in tears for the island that we have all come to know and love 😢 your video is incredible filmmaking, truly.
I actually cried at the broken window and hearing you scream, and for making sure Poppy was OK. Frightening, my heart goes out to you and yes, where on earth do you start the Big clean up and the cost of replacement.... Blessings to you all and thank goodness for no injuries... 😱.... ♥️🙏
Interesting to see the days before and how you prepared... and obviously did not expect the storm to be as devastating as it was. Your fear and stress had me crying for you. So happy you all survived and are safe.
IM so happy that your family is safe. This is a traumatizing event but we humans are versatile. Keep those videos coming. The Philippines love you guys!! ❤❤❤
I’m so glad you’re all safe and unhurt! That’s a great blessing! So thankful you’re all alright and that’s what matters the most. Everything else can be sorted out and rebuilt. Stay strong and safe.
I'm am relieved and very glad you guys are safe. This is the third video I watched so far that showed your family was safe. Growing up in the Philippines, I had experienced the devastating result of typhoons of this magnitude. Something you can never forget. Hope and pray for you and your family's safety and guidance as you move on with life wherever that will be.
Glad you all are ok post typhoon. Praying for your safety, and expeditious support and assistance to you all there in the island. Stay strong stay safe!
I think your daughter was such a ray of sunshine on this cloudy stormy day. I love your bracelet sweety. My daughter who is 19 now loved making loom bracelets and rings.
Stay strong for Poppy and Story❤️ I can’t imagine the pain you are going through after losing your home, it really makes you feel grateful about what we have❤️
I grew up in Australian cyclones as a kid. Firstly, I’m glad you’re okay. Funnily enough, they are now my favourite memories from my childhood, sheltering together as a family. The most internal rooms of the house are the safest, which you’ve now seen why. Somewhere without, or the least number, of windows, skylights etc. That’s almost always the bathroom or toilet, or an internal hallway. Pack the bathroom/most internal room with a mattress and blankets, and a small crate you can grab of your most life or death survival supplies, including a full first aid Pack, non perishable food and food for poppy. Always have lots of crates of water in the house in advance because If you lose access to clean water, that will kill people quickest. Have a large table pre moved in there big enough for you all to hide under. Camp out in this most internal room throughout the duration of the hurricane. If you think you’re going to lose the roof or walls, get under the table. Place poppy in a crate underneath with you. A small soft crate would be easiest, then you can carry her in it if you need to walk to safety. Place yourselves under thick blankets and doonas, rugs. Place the mattress on top as the final layer of protection. So it will go: table. Mattress. Thick blankets and rugs. Yourselves. Hold onto one another, with poppy and Story in the centre of you both. Make sure each person has their own long life battery torch around their neck on a lanyard, along with a distinctive whistle which you will recognise anywhere as one of “your” whistles. I hope and pray you never go through something like this again, but it’s tragically a given thanks to climate change. Feeling more prepared makes a big difference. A lot of that preparation can only come from First hand experience, and coming from the UK, you have no experience with anything like this. I’m sure next time so much as the wind picks up, your house will be totally boarded up complete with a giant umbrella on top. You got you and your family out of there alive and uninjured. You did your job. Be proud of yourselves as parents and I hope you don’t bear yourselves up.
We prayed and still are praying for your family and all families that experienced typhoon Odette. We are hoping that you all be able to surpass this. To the people who are watching their videos please don't skip the ads at least in that way we can somehow help them. Stay safe!
So happy and relieved that you are all safe. But I’m also sad about the aftermath of this storm. 😔 Bangon Siargao at sa lahat ng nasalanta ng bagyo! Padayon lang! 🙏🏼🙏🏼 You’re all in our prayers.
I am so relieved to know you guys are safe. Y'all are like family to me now, so when I heard news of what happened to Siargao, I couldn't stop thinking about you guys.
the calmness before storm to a lil bit rain and waves getting high to the peak this was a wonderful video y'all survived what a amazing and scary experience that you guys will never forget in your lifetime ❤️
Yeah!!! Lets make this vlog to 1M Our way to help this family I love u so much guys, im a filipino living in japan Ive watched this video many times nd cant help to cry Im so happy that ur safe God bless No skipping ads po
Even before this tragedy happened, ever since, i've been keeping you in my prayers that God will protect your family always. Glad you're okay! May God comfort and strengthen your family and the people of Siargao island! May healing and restoration take place very soon!!! God bless!!!
I was so moved by your video and sweet family. Having been through Katrina in the US and numerous tornadoes, I feel for you. Your home is beautiful and the view is something out of a tour guide. You will rebuild. One room at a time. Health is everything. Nothing else matters ♥️♥️♥️♥️
After seeing what Odette did to Siargao, I was really wondering about you guys, especially you did not post for days. Finally relieved when we saw the four of you in another youtuber's post a few days ago. Hang in there, everyone recovers eventually. We have learned to be resilient, every experience, a learning one. Hugs to Story. Merry Christmas and a hopeful new year.
Next time board up those windows !? Hello !?? Wake up read Some books maybe on how to keep your home safe !!? Don't just leave windows in that state move big furniture away from windows all small objects needed to be stored out of the way ..put up in containers !? Why were they not properly informed of how to protect their home and selves !! That's nuts !!
I'm so sorry you had to endure all of this. I had such trauma when Ondoy and Ulysses happened here in Luzon. Glad you're all safe. We have been worrying for days now about you guys. Storms during Ber months tend to be devastating. Praying for your safety always.
You had me worried when we didn't hear from you after that devastating storm. Thanks God you are safe and hoping people in Siargao will slowly recover. My family is in mainland Surigao. Thanks to my father because he built a sturdy house that's why we only had very little damage. Many of our neighbors took refuged in our house during Odette's landfall.
You have been on my mind when I heard Siargao was devastated by the typhoon. I am so happy that you’re all safe and sound. It must’ve been so traumatic to you guys. Stay safe♥️
Been thinking your family since the day typhoon Odette slammed siargao. I'm happy and relieved that you guys all okay. Thanks God. Let's all keep watching ads that pop up to support this awesome family.
I remembered calling my grandma in Iloilo at 3am and she's crying, windows broken and the roof was off 😢, when we watched your video in preparation of the storm we're already worried about the windows, but thank God you're all okay. Thank God.
We learned a lesson back in iloilo 2008 Typhoon frank to never close your windows in high speed winds. It's better to make your floor wet rather than broken shards of glass.
Our hearts go out to you Jay, Sacha, Story and Poppy, that was a few days ago, hopefully by now things have improved for you all. Merry Christmas to you, from New Zealand. Bob and Lina.
I am just crying watching what you had experienced guys. It's Christmas here in England and I just want to send warm hugs and best wishes to you Jay, Sacha, Story, and Puppy. We love you all 💔❤
I do hope U all will fare well with this mess.. Puppy scared me when at first U couldn’t find him, he is adorable and your daughter loves him so. God bless!!
Jay, Thank you for taking video showing the progression of normal from the day before to the peak of the storm. It was terrifying to watch the intensity of the typhoon and clearly most terrifying for you all to experience. I can see how you and Sacha are trying to hold back tears as helplessness, fear, disconnection, confusion, uncertainty, set in. Each to his own to survive through this. Thank God you are all safe, especially from the breakage of the glass window. I grew up in Cebu and each typhoon use to flood our ground floors that we put everything above the ground. In my 33 years living in the Philippines, I have never seen this wind intensity. Kyle of Becoming Filipino had interviewed a few episodes back recently an American expert in disaster preparedness and recovery. You may want to hook up with that man for future plans to set up disaster preparedness. Vloggers Finn Snow & Critter Hunter delve right in immediately helping one family at a time & restoring the village, non-stop from day 1. One cannot wait for government or organizations. The damage to the Visayas and Mindanao regions is too massive. I am helping financially directly to family with my limited ability. Praying for you all!
This is heartbreaking 💔. For someone who is not used to this calamity can be very traumatic. The love you have for Poppy is very evident on this video. It will get better again. Stay strong. ❤️
Having gone thru a hurricane myself in the US, I can imagine the terror. Hence why I wud never live on an island but there's danger everywhere. Thank God you are all 4 ok, despite the devastating effects to all residents of Siargao. It breaks my ♥ you and all in Siargao have to go thru Xmas with all of this. Just be strong please and hang on to eachother. Material things are just that, life is what really matters. Be safe and much ❤️fm 🇵🇹!
yayyy, 8 Miles From Home, your subs continuously coming. Keep subscribing everyone as this family are truly amazing to locals in Siargao. They have been a great contributor to Siargao's economy. They choose stay instead of fleeing Siargao after Odette and they are helping Odette's victims too.
It was the most terrifying moment of my life. Typhoon Odette hit our place in Cebu, night time on Dec. 16. We were in the eye of the storm at around 10:10pm. It started to pick up again at around 10:40pm and blew our roof. But I am grateful that we made it alive. Thank God, you and your family is okay.
I just uploaded a video about this storm. Its way less extreme than this video, i just wanted to share my input on what i experienced. God bless you all. 💪
A real life movie that must be watched. Thanks for sharing this to the world. We are at 1.4 million plus views now. Well done. Please don’t skip ads while watching this piece of art.
Literally cried when I heard the screams especially that few seconds you were looking for Poppy. So heartbreaking to hear Story crying. I'm so glad you are all safe.
So glad to see you all safe! Thank you for documenting and sharing your first hand account of Typhoon Odette to your viewers. However traumatic and terrifying it has been, I hope this experience will make your family stronger and resilient just like the thousands of Filipinos who were affected by the typhoon. Stay safe and thank you for all that you do for our kababayans in Siargao!
Thank God you're all ok! Shocking to watch and so sad. Try and keep yourselves as best safe as possible! Take care! Under the circumstances, MERRY CHRISTMAS! We're thinking of you!
I was stationed in the Philippines '81 Clark AB, Angeles City. We had monsoons in May & June. I thought that was scary coming fm FL. But, you all have sadly had a major life changer. Bless you all for future health, rebuild, joy & happiness, etc even through this storm(literally) your family seems to be resilient & ready to begin again. I lived the Bagio mountains, Subic Bay & little villages on day trips. I love your channel & especially the scenery. 🫂🧚♀️♥️🧚♂️🫂✌️🤍🤟
I wish we were there to give your family a tight hug. I watched it again and my eyes are welling up in tears. It may be a devastating experience, a traumatic one even, but please know you are in our prayers.
i'm so so much relieved to know that u guys are ok... so worried til we saw u in an interview and other updates frm others saying that you're ok. pls be safe and God bless you always. stay strong. kisses to Story and Sacha
"Dont let your family go through that again" it sounds like you are blaming HIM. It's not his fault! He probably never experience being inside an hurricane before and same for me
Quick Tip: Before a storm like that, plywood on all the windows on the outside. Drill into the concrete if you have to and secure the wood with concrete anchors. It's not the wind you have to worry about, it's the debris flying around that gets chucked through the windows. As for the tip about opening the windows during high winds; not a good idea. Again, debris is flying all over the place. If it doesn't make it into your house, the water will. And water does tons of damage by itself.
Thank God you guys are safe! You are the ones that comes to my mind when I heard that Siargao was badly affected by the typhone. My friend and I are waiting for your updates. Stay safe🙏
❤❤❤❤
Was teary eyed here
I felt like crying too while watching if only i am not in a public transpo
Makes me cry
Mmmm....do you think that it would have been more appropriate to have ensured that the dog was safe well before the typhoon approached? I mean its not like they didnt have enough warning.

The storm in the Philippines is getting stronger and scarier as the years passed. Climate change is real. I will never be over the trauma of experiencing this kind of strong typhoon. We are glad that you are safe. Sending warm hugs and prayers.
typhoons and other natural disasters has been in earth for millions of years,
good grief, global warning.......are you mad this typhoon was only gusts of around 250 kph, they can get up over 350. sure not nice to be caught in. but with days of notice they could've been way better prepared. there's an absolute abundance of information on the internet. they should count their blessings.
@@billzzdimzz2990 yeah. But typhoon getting stronger typhoons from time to time is not normal. We used to have typhoons but not of this magnitude.
Not only in the Philippines, it's getting worse everywhere.

It's taught in the Bernoulli's Principle.
thats for tornadoes. there arent many tornadoes in the philippines so its better if you close everything :D
This is not accurate. The wind is what blows your roof off, pressure difference is not that significant.
its the exact opposite. look it up.
"Opening your windows during a hurricane or tornado can cause large-scale structural damage to your house. When air enters your home with a significant amount of force, it will need a way to exit. If the wind is strong enough, it may blow the roof off of your home!"
"The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety recommends that you close all interior doors and all windows for major wind storms including hurricanes. In addition to closing exterior windows and doors, it’s also recommended that you close all interior doors as well."
"Some who believe this claim think strong winds from severe storms like hurricanes and tornados will pass through the house, creating less structural damage.
Thousands of people are saying the same thing: “Thank God you’re safe!!” So relieved to hear from you. Siargao will rise again!!
Amen!!!
When what we should be saying is "YOU IDIOT!!"
Thank god for sending this storm at them
You were right.

Ngl but I was more offended at the fact that they had a car and could have easily have drove to a shelter or a more secure place.
Or a place that wasn’t in the path of the storm
But instead they remained home….AT A BEACH IF THAT- THEY ARE HELLA LUCKY TO BE ALIVE
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A STORM. (The fact that they didn’t try escape and put not just there life’s BUT THERE CHILDS in danger is sad as hell.)
OH MY GOD WHA WHAT IT RIPPED TEN HOUSE OMGGGGG

Keep Safe Always,
Matt - Toronto, Canada
That’s truly terrifying
I hope everyone was ok.
I like it but

Knowing you’re all okay has made my mother and I cry from relief thank goodness 💛 my mother has been so worried because she knows it all too well.
Pack the bathroom/most internal room with a mattress and blankets, and a small crate you can grab of your most life or death survival supplies, including a full first aid
Pack, non perishable food and food for poppy.
A lot of that preparation can only come from
First hand experience, and coming from the UK, you have no experience with anything like this.
I’m sure next time so much as the wind picks up, your house will be totally boarded up complete with a giant umbrella on top.
You got you and your family out of there alive and uninjured. You did your job. Be proud of yourselves as parents and I hope you don’t bear yourselves up.
How can you do a very big type like that-
Yes, and the chillest person will be my grandma because she has experienced stronger typhoons.
I remember making a lego tower with my parents during a typhoon and I even cried because my dad got a bigger tower and got so jealous

You guys are awesome, the dedication and wanting to find Poppy was amazing. Sending you the best of wishes
@@Kitxne is it effective, no glass windows shattered or flew away?
Our hearts go out to you Jay, Sacha, Story and Poppy, that was a few days ago, hopefully by now things have improved for you all. Merry Christmas to you, from New Zealand. Bob and Lina.
Merry Christmas. FROM Rome Italy
@@judithbriones5882 Thank you Judith likewise to you and yours. Are you from NZ? Bob.
I am just crying watching what you had experienced guys. It's Christmas here in England and I just want to send warm hugs and best wishes to you Jay, Sacha, Story, and Puppy. We love you all 💔❤
I hate to do this ... but it's Story ... not Stormy ... :(
@@chriscups thank you. Good thing you spotted it. I didn't even realised I typed Stormy.

Glad you are all safe guys. Praying for fast recovery of everyone and the island. 🙏🏻
This is heartbreaking 💔. For someone who is not used to this calamity can be very traumatic. The love you have for Poppy is very evident on this video. It will get better again. Stay strong. ❤️
Watching this 2023 and still feel emotional 😢😢 so glad you've got through it safely 🙏💓
Thank God everyone's safe! I can't imagine how terrified Story was. Keep safe guys!
Be safe and much ❤️fm 🇵🇹!
when you care so much about the 8MFH family, and you see this, it would break your heart. but i am just thankful that you are all safe.
I love the impromptu loom tutorial from baby girl! She's so cute and well-spoken.
yayyy, 8 Miles From Home, your subs continuously coming. Keep subscribing everyone as this family are truly amazing to locals in Siargao. They have been a great contributor to Siargao's economy. They choose stay instead of fleeing Siargao after Odette and they are helping Odette's victims too.
Exactly my thoughts. They genuinely love the country and our people ❤️
It was the most terrifying moment of my life. Typhoon Odette hit our place in Cebu, night time on Dec. 16. We were in the eye of the storm at around 10:10pm. It started to pick up again at around 10:40pm and blew our roof. But I am grateful that we made it alive. Thank God, you and your family is okay.
Yeah, i think it lasted 5 or 6 in the morning
May God bless you man and may you be safe and never experience this again.
🙏
Well the storm here lasted around 11pm and started at 1pm
I just uploaded a video about this storm. Its way less extreme than this video, i just wanted to share my input on what i experienced. God bless you all. 💪
ohmy god good needs is she ok?

23:40 This is so heartbreaking and made me in tears. Hearing your daughters cried and all of the panic noises everywhere.
My heartbeats were racing and I felt so glad that you all are safe. That footage of the window glass shattering was scary.
I'm glad that everyone is safe. Now you know what and how to prepare yourself for the next Typhoon. Don't let your family go through that again.
Like they never heard what a hurricane BESIDES THE SEA , could do. They never saw it , they never heard about it ,they never read about it?
Stay safe🙏
