I'm from Southern Leyte and our province was badly hit by Typhoon Odette, too. The strong winds and rain started at 2 P.M. and ended at 10 P.M. We had witnessed how our entire roof was ripped out by the strong winds. It was the scariest thing I've ever experienced in my 25 years of existence.
I also feel blessed that we have a durable house. The winds were so strong I thought our roof would be ripped out and glass windows broken, but thank God there were no damages from typhoon Odette, buyag. Looking forward to your upcoming project/video for a “doomsday prep” home because my parents are also planning to build a new house away from the city for their retirement. Thank you for always sharing your ideas, Slater!
I literally got goosebumps just watching the different footages during the onslaught of Odette. I can't imagine how scared those other people have felt during those moments. It was probably the longest and scariest night of their lives.
Looking forward to the house strengthening videos. We are wanting to build our house on the coast of Guimaras strong enough that anyone who needs shelter from a storm can be safe inside with us while still taking advantage of the hill top views. God bless and stay safe.

That was one of the scariest moments indeed. My house is concrete with only two windows but it was not that safe from the 3 tall trees that fell down on my roof. It destroyed the roof (sheets).
That was a very traumatic night for Cebuanos in central cebu. Imagine yung feeling na nasa isang corner ka lang and nag pe pray na lahat ng family member mo and mga pinaghirapan ay okay lang after the typhoon pass. This reminds me how scary Yolanda was when naglandfall siya dito sa tacloban, good thing di ako masyadong nagkatrauma after kahit i experienced worse than this. But anyways, people shouldn’t take typhoon lightly, taclobanons thought it was just a normal typhoon so yep lesson learned yun samin, i hope same goes to everyone, must learn from the experience of others than experiencing it yourself tapos dun lng tayo ulit magiging ready. come out with a sustainable design / prepper series. we live in a country that experiences storms and typhoons. house designs should not just be aesthetics but also adapted to our environment. so real estate developers can finally take green and sustainable seriously.

why not mount a frame outside the glass walls where you can slide wood slabs to protect it during typhoons? i also dream of having a glass house but after seeing this… i’m not sure anymore. typhoons are getting stronger year after year. we should not only focus on aesthetics in constructing our safe havens.
A pure glass house is still very much possible in any typhoon prone country like the Philippines as long as you have the budget to spend on the kind of glass that is rated for a category 5 typhoon. Triple clad glass windows with a rating for a 10 pounds projectile at speeds of 300kph would be the safest. I am exaggerating here but be better on the safe side. Common usage in the Philippines is just a single clad tempered glass. That is only good for accidental kicks and bumps of objects. Not intended for flying objects at high speeds which typhoons can throw at anything specially windows and door glasses.
Excited to see episodes where you can share with us how to storm proof houses, either on the building phase or with houses that has already been built, it would be very helpful for us especially that PH has typhoon seasons. God bless!
I am surprised you do not have hurricane blinds. They are metal exterior blinds that you only close when expecting a hurricane they roll up at the top of windows and are in a container and you pull them down. Rolling shutters do exactly what you think they would: roll up and down. When not in use (a.k.a. when the weather's great and there's no storm on the forecast), this type of hurricane protection can also provide your home with additional insulation and privacy without sacrificing aesthetic. Some selections (like Roll-a-way's StormSafe Rolling Shutters), can even be controlled with remotes.

It's my 1st time to experience strong typhoon. I lived alone in a house. And what makes it worst is that I have panic attack. The whole time I'm having panic attack. Scary indeed!

We avoided alot of damages because we are already used to typhoons. My advice is that protect your house with all that you can. And for glass houses, cover your glasses with everything that is available. I hope that y'all recover fast. We bicolanos survived, and you can do it too. God bless ya'll.

we should not forget the aesthetics din. It may not protect your house from strong winds. It may not give you less bills. But it will give you inner healing. We should remember that space, form, colors, texture, scale, even the smell of the house greatly affects our wellbeing. We call it,psychology of space. Remember that we have senses, and need nourishment too. Love and light.
Wow its look terrible good to had cctv still see the actual happening outside your house sir and thanks god all you is save specially I adore you for making your house safe watching from Hiroshima japan
Sobrang scary nga tlga. Thankful to God that hindi namin naexperience yang si Odette(taga Valenzuela City kmi) semi concrete haus nmin, mlmang lumipad ang roof. God bless all the people affected by super typhoon Odette. 🙏
7-8pm I was still tying the roof of my girlfriends house and it was a 2 storey house so it was really high. It's not seen in the video but the winds really whistle like in the movies and when it hits your face it felt like getting slapped with something hard doesn't really hurt but you can really feel the rain and wind slapping the heck out of you. I think it was 9 pm that I abandoned the roof and evacuated my girlfriend and her mother to the 1st floor and waited till it was over. -stay safe everyone. Ai kalimot social distancing 😘
Yess, geabee jud ang hangin murag naay managhoy nga murag bawd ug tingog. Nga di ka kasabot. Ang hangin murag mamira/manukmod depende ug asa ka padung.
What we do here in the states is throw outdoor furniture in the pool. Board up all windows with plywood have that in storage ready to go screws not nails I think you know this just saying.
during Yolanda Kalibo was hit so bad as well my cousin has a glass house in Kalibo as well and the glass was also bending as well and not all glass is tempered...ng open sila nga window about 3 inches lang taoos a door open as well ng stop and bend ng glass sa wind...basta mga naagjan lang ang hangin it lessen.
Oh yes I am so interested to know what type of cctv you got there that doesnt require wifi, coz its hard to depend everything on wifi, like, what if there is a newtwork maintenance then we need to get an important footage...our cctv's here are old, the old school type with the dvr and stuff, and planning maybe to switch to an IP, but I thought, my concern is it is indeed wifi dependent...so I am so looking forward to your next vlog and enlighten us which one is smarter to get...
I remember when we had a typhoon and my grandpa did not fully closed our our windows like there's a very small gap in the windows and he just put some sticks for the windows to not move. He told us na para daw mag flow yung hangin sa loob ng bahay and all our doors were open pa so nung nagtyphoon, I remember na lakas ng hangin sa loob ng bahay namin. After the typhoon, the houses in our neighborhood got destroyed and out house was just chilling with few leaks lang. Idk but I always do this when there's typhoon coming and so far it never do us no harm. Thank god. I'm not sure but it probably has something to do with wind pressure of whatnots.
Thank you for sharing this, the channel is really educational. It surely opened up some ideas for resilient house. It made me think that its better to have some small packets wherein the air could flow thus minimizing the impact of the wind on our walls. I also think that the clerestory jalousies helped in diffusing the impact.
I lived in Cayman Islands for a few years, and they have the shutter for windows, wherein you only close it during hurricane season. So maybe you guys can that out. Like all houses in Cayman has that.

Lasted until 11pm where the eye passed, then came back mga 1am until 3am. Wind & rain stopped mga 4am na, and it was eerily quiet. Didnt get any sleep kay anxious na kaau basin mabuak among glass doors and windows. Thank God ni surviva rajud 😭
Good grace your family is safe and Yoda!
Lagyan power house ang genset. Thank you for purchasing sa FIL POWER GROUP! God bless. 😊
Happy and excited talaga.. had no better appropriate terms to use? It was a devastating typhoon and damaged a lot of lives and here you are so upbeat about it monetizing off of a tragic event
Thank God safe mo with your family sir Slater ... 🙏
I feel sad and worry kay wala napid daw siya kasabot ug unsa jud iyaha. I hope this video serves as her inspiration Slater. Because you are such an inspiration (and also my regrets ngano dili Engineering ako gikuha sauna). Gob bless sa tanan projects pa nimo Eng. Young.
we should not forget the aesthetics din.
It may not protect your house from strong winds.
It may not give you less bills.
But it will give you inner healing.
We should remember that space, form, colors, texture, scale, even the smell of the
house greatly affects our wellbeing.
We call it,psychology of space.
Remember that we have senses, and need nourishment too.
Love and light.
Wow its look terrible good to had cctv still see the actual happening outside your house sir and thanks god all you is save specially I adore you for making your house safe watching from Hiroshima japan
Same feelings here in Cabahug st., murag washing machine yong sound. Scary talaga.😞
Hi sir thanks for the info about sa tempered glass now may idea na ako kung anong gagawin sa house..
You're lucky indeed to have that kind of house. Kami 7-8 PM hinubig na kay lupad nang atop, nabasa na mis ulan, gusbat na kisame.
I remember super typhoon Yolanda, that hit us also in Northern Iloilo. Yung trauma dn same sa Odette 🥺
Glad you're all safe skyfam. 😍
That's insaane. Looking forward for your future proofing vids! Stay safe skyfamm
Keep safe and healthy, always..
Same here. I am thinking to invest on off-grid solar power system.
So hooked up with this fam vlog 😍❤️
Salamat sa pagtabang sir from Southern Leyte din po kami grabe din po yung nangyari sa amin totally damage and na washed out 😭😭.
Thank you Lord that everyone is safe🙏🇨🇦 thank you for sharing this video Mr. Slater Young!
Grabee praise God talaga that you guys are safe!
Thanks for sharing your video during the odette thypoon. Got an idea bout the glass house. You guys are so helpful.☺️
Pwd nyo din po lagyan ng typhoon chatter lahat ng window glasses to be save.. Thanks God your all safe.
Thanks God Skyfam was safe
I lived in Cayman Islands for a few years, and they have the shutter for windows, wherein you only close it during hurricane season. So maybe you guys can that out. Like all houses in Cayman has that.
Im from araceli Palawan. We are damaged by thw typhoon odette. Many houses are gone😭😭😭.
Watching these reminds mo the feeling during the typhoon. 24hrs naming naramdaman ang bagyo. But thank god no casualties
