Our house is almost 20 years old and the worse thing that happened was the roof was leaking. Slater said that if the branches we're hit on a different spot their whole house would break down.

It's very well calculated, the windloads that could affect their home's form of sheltering. An engineer's expertise indeed.

I’m from the Philippines living now in Florida and here we experiences strong hurricane or typhoon and we do a lot of preparations before the hurricane. The windows are boarded that means we cover the windows with plywood or now a days using aluminum shutters. The reason for covering all the windows and even the doors is so that if a flying object hits it won’t break the glass that would then let the water in the house. I remember helping my husband doing all these things. The other things are… bringing in all the potted plants, patio furnitures inside the house so that they won’t be lifted by strong winds and be a flying weapon. Next is preparing enough foods and water that will last you for couple of days. Have candles, flashlights with good batteries, manual can opener, gas for the grill so you can cook even without electricity and tap water to use for bathing and flushing the toilet. Put your vehicle inside the covered garage or transfer them to a secured garage even if you have to pay. Fill up your car. Here in Bicol as we experienced so many typhoon. We learned a lot from it and be innovative before a typhoon comes. We trim big trees or cut it down when it's near our house, we use sand bags to hold our roofs,it's very proven effective cause it gets heavier when wet.
Here in Catanduanes part of Bicol na palaging unang tinatamaan, houses were build with slab roof or part of their house na slab. We also have double typhoon guard for windows. Every after a typhoon, may renovation or update sa mga houses for the next. We learn to live and survive.
Yes I agree po. Im also from Catanduanes.
Call it lucky or engineering expertise that made the house withstood the brutal winds but for me talagang Devine protection, kasi as what Slater said kahit isang glass na mabasag everything will fall apart and to think na may isang malaking tree branch that fell but never hit the glass window ay talagang big deal na yun to say Thank you Lord!
Kudos on your mindset! Acknowledging what is most important - your loved ones are safe. Being grateful for what you have left in the midst of a calamity and going so far as to think of unselfishly helping others.
Hi Slater, I am from the northern part of Cebu. we're good here. yung nasa Cebu city and other neighboring cities are coming here to rent a hotel, buy necessities, and others. Yung problem lang is yung iba naghohoard ng gasoline just to sell jan sa city then they double the price. kaya nauubos yung supply ng gas dito samen. Yung ibang gasoline station is nagclose na.
i feel so sad for everyone who were affected by typhoon. I pray and hope for all of you to recover fast. This vlog of yours show that even good engineers or family of engineers at that can still be affected by this kind of calamities. I just wish you all the best for the coming days
Slater our prayers are with you. Hoping you can sort it all out. I know your heart is in the right place when you kept mentioning others that were worst off and you figuring out how to help. God Bless
The closed regional TV channels could really help during these times sana 😞 Thank you Slater for showing us even a glimpse of how bad the damage is on your region. Praying for the recovery of Cebu and all the affected areas 🙏🏼
Abscbn and gma regional network did NOTHING when yolanda hit north cebu. Kinsa man say motan-aw anang abc-cbn oy? Sorry ka netflix, tiktok, youtube, fb na among source of entertainment namong taga Cebu and we’ll have our own media company that caters Cebuano speaking audiences
Youre family is the first one who comes to my mind the moment i heares about the damage..the skypod is almost glasses..its good to know that you are all safe..everything can restore but the life cannot..God is good
A lot of people here are commenting that it isn't advisable to built a glass house here in the PH. Well, as you can see their house had minimal damage from the typhoon compared to the other houses. Stop questioning their decision in choosing a glass house. It was super typhoon, dude. Glad they're all safe and the house wasn't even damaged at all.
Not in my region which is Bicol. Glass house is a NO NO. Typhoon every single year. Last year we had 5 typhoons sa loob lang ng isang buwan. Signal #5 (Rolly) the rest are 3 & 2 and had no power up until january of this year.
When I lived in Wilmington,NC, a lot of hurricanes would cause yearly damage. One tip was to have an old fashion telephone line (yong May jack) so if there’s a power outage, one still has a phone to use.
Just want to say...the tip you mentioned a year ago with sir/ Architect Oliver about always having a silicone gun and cartridge on hand really helped a lot...it didn't stop the leak but it totally helped in preventing more rain water from getting blown inside the window because of the strong wind, it also didn't adhere or sealed off the window frame after since it's already wet so there was no concern about the frame sticking to the track.
Amping mo diha, Slater. You're definitely blessed to still have your home intact. I admire how you're stepping up to help your fellow Cebuanos. We have families in Dalaguete, Cebu and we heard it was a mess there. They're expecting power to be back in 2-3 months pa. 😢
I admire you so much slater the way you accept damage to your house and in your project as well.. anyway you're inspiration to others who've lost their homes too, godbless you slater!!!
Thanks for sharing, Slater! Good to know you guys are safe. I have a colleague who is based there in Cebu as well, they are okay. Praying for everyone's safety...
Lets all be thankful that no one is hurt, that's it. Material things, mahahanapan ng solusyon yan, yung buhay natin pag nawala, wala na, kaya lets all be thankful. We can do this together.!
Oh man. I've recently found the channel and have seen your videos. Seeing the damages and how the typhoon ruined the once beautiful work is depressing. Seeing your family safe is the best thing this day.
Praying for everyone affected by Typhoon Odette. Not just cebu but also Negros Occidental, negros oriental, siargao, leyte and so on. These provinces are not getting alot of media coverage and there are multiple casualties and families that lost their homes. Let’s do what we can to help them 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Not a lot of media coverage because there are not enough regional news centers (well ABS had but it was shut down) to report from the provinces. I don't know how independent local provincial news transmit their news to the big networks. The major networks and publications' news teams are also coming down from Manila which would be hard at this time when power and airports are down.
Praying for Cebu and the Philipines. All I can say that I am glad your family safe and I hope after or post typhoon you will have an idea on how you will renovate your house, I believe you are a great engineer and will come up with a safe better post typhoon house (you should build a bunker, I remember houses in the USA that have typhoon/hurricane have a bunker). Stay Strong Slater, Kryz and baby Scotty. 💜 ( i know this is maybe too much in remote area there are friends of mine that has satelite telephone it was useful when there was a Tsunami / earthquake or remotely faraway . Old landline usually works too)
I'm so glad you're all safe, but I've always wondered how well your house would fare in a typhoon, with all of that glass. I assume you discussed this with the architects and builders while you were building. It's so critical to consider when house building. My heart goes out to all of you in that area. God bless and please be safe ❤
In Gods protection and to the engineers and architects who designed the house, Thank you to all of you, they are safe. Love and light to your family sir slater and to all vismin people affected by typhoon.
"A lot of people in Manila are messaging us like 'Hey, meet your deadline' parang business as usual." - Hits different because you know this is true. Life here in Luzon continued like nothing happened with our people in Visayas and Mindanao.
You are so blessed engr Slater young …God keeps u all safe …thank u Lord Praying for all the people of cebu and all rest of the province ,city …may God Provides all your needs …stay strong po God cares😇💖

@@rogirobles being hit by a super typhoon (signal #5) and suffering from water leaks + a small hole in the roof, i think thats minimal, no? needless to say, their house is located on top of the mountain. just imagine how strong the wind was tapos glass house pa sila

This is one of the strongest typhoons that i have ever experience aside from Yolanda, you could really hear the strong winds and things outside crashing everywhere. very scary, no signal as well. T_T
@@lynabc3826 No, Odette was stronger than Yolanda. The reason why it had more casualties was because of the Storm Surge. Yung tubig dagat bumaha sa lupa dahil sa land formation ng tacloban. . Kaya ang daming na lunod/ namatay .. but Odette had more wind strengh.

Not just Cebu that needs help but also Bohol, Samar, Leyte and many other places. Just watch out for enterprising scammers. I was already partly scammed by a former neighbor. He didn't distribute as was said and kept most for himself. But I understand. Necessity turns people to become bad. He wasn't that greedy before this happens.
First of all its nice to see you safe yun ang pinaka importante sa lahat. Grabeng lakas talaga ng bagyong Odette, giniba nya ang SKYPOD, isa sa mga hinahangaan kong bahay structurally wise na sinubaybayan ko hanggang finishing at akala ko typhoon proof na talaga ito but still the damage is very minimal pero nakakapanlumo pag nakita mo ang dream house mong devastated it's Hurting, pero tama ka you're still lucky compared to others. We pray for all the Cebuanos and all affected areas in Visayas.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for sharing this video... very raw, very real. Planning is everything, as you said. Kahit pa one year ang planning, now we all see, sulit talaga! We learn and we adapt, then innovate. I’m sure you have learned many things from this, Engr, and you will find innovations na naman. Thank you for taking up vlogging talaga. We pray for your safety so you can help more people! Merry Christmas, kahit ganito ng nasira ang lahat, what’s important is that you are all safe. In the end, this is what matters most. We can rebuild lalo na if we all work together.
yes as someone who lives in Negros Occidental, it's my first time also to experience such very strong winds. The howling was scary. Malayo pa ang bagyo super lakas na nang hangin. After 30 years lumusot ulit ang Bagyong ganitong kalakas sa Negros. Most of the time kasi Bacolod don't experience such things Kasi humuhina ang bagyo kasi naka Shield ang Mt. Canlaon. and mga bukirin na part. Although humina nga naman ang hangin instead of 240kph, bumaba. Pero super lakas parin talaga.
I agree. We never experienced typhoon wind like this one, but we're still lucky mga puno lang at poste lang na buwal. But I wish I could say the same with our neighbor cities like Sipalay and Kabankalan. 😔
I am glad that you all were safe despite of all these horrible typhoon. 🥺🙏🏼 May God bless u all! Our prayers are with you all. Sending love from Bahrain 🇧🇭

That is terrible. But compared to other homes, I think you made out pretty well thank god. I’ve seen the destruction to the poorer neighborhoods and everything is gone. And not to mention they’re not as well off. So hopefully everyone will be able to help those who are in dire need with life and death situations. I pray everyone will recover quickly🙏🏼
I am an avid follower .I am thinking about your beautiful house after experiencing the typhoon here in southern leyte. I am very glad ur okay. U have no idea how happy i am watching this video. Keep safe po.
For awareness on how strong the typhoon is, will you share cctv footage of the typhoon ? We only see the aftermaths, but the actual strength we have no idea.
I think they can’t show the video of how strong the typhoon because this happened during nighttime. I was not also able to record it and was shocked nlng to see the damage the next morning.
Thank you for helping other people kahit na kayo mismo ay nasalanta din. God bless you. God bless all our kababayan in PH who suffered badly from the super typhoon.
Nakakalungkot yung nangyari sa cebu... now slater needs to post something to recreate the skypod that is built for a disasters like this would be a great content to share some to us as well para mas safe... yung mga tipong wala ng glass puro concrete at stainless lahat lol
I think their house is a proof that glass is okay as long as high quality ung gamit and maganda pagkakabit. Their parents’ house as well, parang walang damage ung glass.
Wala naman nangyari sa bahay nila. Pinagsasabi mo?? Pumasok lng konti yung tubig dahil sa lakas ng ulan at hampas mg hangin. Pero walang major damages yung bahay nila.
I don’t follow you that often only because I’m not yet ( not sure now if I will ) be in the Philippines. But enjoy your designing concepts so I catch you every once in awhile. More so I am happy to know you and your family are safe and sound. Many lives destroyed, homes gone. Objects can be replaced, people cannot. Same here Slater, were we in Cebu City as well during the typhoon luoy jud naang family kami we adopt them as well with kids ages 4, 5, 8 and 11 in Punta Princesa Cebu City in our house kasi wala na electricity ug water nag kaws kami everyday. Thankfully we are all safe that's the most important thing. God is good. We are now back in Manila we just let the family (our staff) stayed temporary while their house ginagawa pa.
Stay safe, Engr! Kami rin dito sa Palawan grabe. Sobrang takot. Sounds exaggerating pero grabe talaga lakas. Also, sana mapansin din ang Palawan na matulungan.
Maybe, a good challenge to engineers like you is to design or set building standards that are “Odette-proof” so to speak so that rebuilding in the aftermath of this devastating experience is not only a learning opportunity but a chance to rebuild the calamities brought about by climate change. And there’s a lot of facets to these challenges to improve the people’s habitat.
The branch on your roof ba I don't think it's from the pinetree.. because if you look at the leaves, it's different.. it came from another tree and the wind brought it there. So grabe jud diay kaayu ang hangin ato na time

Depends on typhoon & type of natural disaster. Sandbags works well so long as ur roof is engineered to hold that weight.
Here in Catanduanes part of Bicol na palaging unang tinatamaan, houses were build with slab roof or part of their house na slab. We also have double typhoon guard for windows. Every after a typhoon, may renovation or update sa mga houses for the next. We learn to live and survive.
And we are always ready to catch flying roofs 😂😂😂. So when our roofs will be blown away. We are ready to repair it by tommorow. 😂
Indeed it’s a divine protection 🙏🏻
I experienced yolanda at I think ganun talaga kalakas yung tumama jan sa inyo.
Slater, even if you where damaged you still say How blessed you are. True strength of spirit!
i feel so sad for everyone who were affected by typhoon.
Yes po the RNG OF ABS-CBN
Dont have any news about the remote areas that is devastated by Odette
Signal #5 (Rolly) the rest are 3 & 2 and had no power up until january of this year.
it’s luck & the tempered glass
5:57 IM SORRY BUT KRYZ 😭
Praying that everyone's coping alright though. Other than the damages, I can't imagine the stress preggy pa jud si Kryz. 🙏🏼
Amping mo diha, Slater. You're definitely blessed to still have your home intact. I admire how you're stepping up to help your fellow Cebuanos. We have families in Dalaguete, Cebu and we heard it was a mess there. They're expecting power to be back in 2-3 months pa. 😢
Tibay ng bahay ni Slater. Lalo na the glasses. Not even 1 glass wall broken. Kudos to you, Dong!
Grabe! Magpapasko pa man din. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys and to all the affected on this disaster. Bangon! Laban lang!
My 2 daughters were also sleeping all throughout. Even though the noise caused by typhoon was so loud. I was just praying the whole time..🙏🙏
I agree. 😥😥😥
Thank you for sharing these, wishing you all safe!
Old landline usually works too)
I remember your dad has a turtle in their backyard. Praying for all of you that got hit by Odette 🙏 Keep safe always ♥
I'm so glad you're all safe, but I've always wondered how well your house would fare in a typhoon, with all of that glass. I assume you discussed this with the architects and builders while you were building. It's so critical to consider when house building. My heart goes out to all of you in that area. God bless and please be safe ❤
Watching from Consolacion Cebu…karong buntag lang gyud nabalik ang among kuryente bai! Grabe si Odette
In Gods protection and to the engineers and architects who designed the house, Thank you to all of you, they are safe.
Love and light to your family sir slater and to all vismin people affected by typhoon.
This shows you’re a legend in engineering. Goal to get you design my dream house in the future. Keep safe
"A lot of people in Manila are messaging us like 'Hey, meet your deadline' parang business as usual." - Hits different because you know this is true. Life here in Luzon continued like nothing happened with our people in Visayas and Mindanao.
slater is really a good engineer. I saw some videos on youtube, glass windows were broken but slater stand still
Hi Sir Slater. I was so worried for your fam knowing nga kusog kaayo si Odette. Salamat sa update Sir. Bangon Bisaya!
You are so blessed engr Slater young …God keeps u all safe …thank u Lord
Praying for all the people of cebu and all rest of the province ,city …may God Provides all your needs …stay strong po God cares😇💖
It's a miracle that your home got minimal damage, thank God for that. What's also important is All of you are safe. ❤️ Prayers for all the affected of Typhoon Odette, may God give you strength (physically, mentally and emotionally) so you will able to rise again from this calamity. ❤️❤️
Anong minimal diyan madaam, para heavy wreckage nangyari sa house nila
@@rogirobles being hit by a super typhoon (signal #5) and suffering from water leaks + a small hole in the roof, i think thats minimal, no? needless to say, their house is located on top of the mountain. just imagine how strong the wind was tapos glass house pa sila
Well I think one reason is pag di talaga tinipid ang materials, sabi nga ni popoy mas mahal lang ng kaunti pero safe naman
Minimal lng yan unlike the ones na pinagawa ng government, tsk tinipid Ang mga material na ginamit...I smell corruption 🤧
@@marymagdaraog2565 ano yung pinagawa ng govt. Na nasira?
On a brighter side, good advertisment to para sa liteblock. At sa gumawa na rin ng haws kasi legit ang ganda ng pagkakagawa, hindi masyadong damaged ang haws. 👍🏻🙏🏻
We are continously praying for the eventual recovery and the safety of all families whose lives and properties were ravaged by the typhoon Odette. Thank God at ligtas kayo, Engr. Slater. At least your house is still quite intact despite the damaged parts. Keep safe and always lean to God. Babangon din kayo, Visayas and Mindanao. Kayang-kaya ninyo iyan.😢😟
This is one of the strongest typhoons that i have ever experience aside from Yolanda, you could really hear the strong winds and things outside crashing everywhere. very scary, no signal as well. T_T
Worst than Yolanda
@@lourdes86179 no mas worst si yolanda. If you go back and check videos from yolanda nakakaiyak
Sendong 😔
@@lynabc3826 No, Odette was stronger than Yolanda. The reason why it had more casualties was because of the Storm Surge. Yung tubig dagat bumaha sa lupa dahil sa land formation ng tacloban. . Kaya ang daming na lunod/ namatay .. but Odette had more wind strengh.
@@regularguyperspective5878 hmm. Recorded windspeeds say otherwise. Yolanda winds were faster by 50km/hr. And it had a much bigger eye.
My heart goes out to you and your family and the people of the Philippines. So sad to see all these disasters in all these places. Stay strong guys, take good care of each other. Always have faith and hope 🙏🙏🙏
Thank God that my family and friend in Cebu are unharmed. Praying for everyone's safety.
They only I could help is prayer🙏🏻 Glad you guys are safe and that's the most important.
Praying for Cebu and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@Kiko Rianzo yes as in, palagi kaming na spared dito sa calamities. But Odette , this one is so scary.
Praying for you and your family to be able to recover quickly, sir Slater. And also for the rest of those who were hit by the storm. 🙏
I am glad that you all were safe despite of all these horrible typhoon. 🥺🙏🏼 May God bless u all! Our prayers are with you all. Sending love from Bahrain 🇧🇭
It's so sad to hear about the damage that Cebu took on due to typhoon Odette. Glad to hear that your family is safe. Take care everyone. Praying for everyone. God bless.
You are blessed, Sir Slater and family . Praying na maging ok pa din lahat para sa typhoon Odette's victims ✨🙏
Thank you for sharing this information, its nice to hear that everyone in your family are safe, thats the most important thing..
Please take care and continue to pray.
Unforgettable Mae
Maaan! Whaaat.. I am lost for words. Kinikilabutan ako. Thank goodness you are all safe and well and may you continue to sustain the strength and courage to carry on. xx
Slater Young, man, I can feel how you are putting your brave faces on. This is heartbreaking but I felt in your voice, the look in your eyes... heartbreaking. but as you said, you are super lucky still and it is great to hear that in the midst of your devastation you still have humanity. You still have the care of and for others. With your character, as they say, it will be alright on the night.
5:56 Ma'am Kryz made my day ^_^ Praying for Cebu and everyone affected of the typhoon.
Glad you are all safe. Thanks for sharing what is happening in Cebu. I kept checking your socials to make sure you guys are ok.
I think need mo po maglagay ng Roll-up Shutter for more safe lalo na pag Large glass windows po and I'm glad you're all safe.
So happy all of you survived and are safe. Big blessings to all of you over there...
Praying for everyone na naapektohan ng bagyo. Sana safe po kayong lahat at Salamat sa lahat ng tumulong at tutulong pa😇🙏
WOW. You guys are so lucky. Things could have be so much worse. Thank God that you guys are safe. Prayers to everyone in the Phils. God bless.
Thank God you were all safe. Stay strong Sir Slater and family! Tulong - tulong tayong lahat para sa muling pagbangon. 🙏🙂

Houses could be restored, and I'm glad you're all safe. Calamities are uncontrollable. Stay safe...
I was just watched your vlog now, how sorry I am to see and hear about this disaster weather that had happened to Cebu’s cities especially your house. I am so glad that to see that you are all safe, please take care.
@@07arjoe and i think they said they took out all the plugs.

Thoughts, prayers and blessings go to the peoples of the Philippines. Best of luck, for you are truthfully most fortunate.
Yea I don't trust this guy to make that banaue inspired condo for rich people

Praise God that you’re all safe and well! 🙏🏻

Thank youuuu po sa update! Been waiting for this po…
True
Your appreciation for life over material things is very humble. Your Creator showed mercy to you and family.
The branch on your roof ba I don't think it's from the pinetree.. because if you look at the leaves, it's different.. it came from another tree and the wind brought it there. So grabe jud diay kaayu ang hangin ato na time
So worth it lahat ng gastos nyo and you really did a great job in planning and building your home❤️ stay safe SkyFam!
