tbh I have no problem that they’re not asian (though one of them is half japanese) I just feel as if they hadn’t trained enough at all and it was somewhat like a free pass (though they are trying) and I really don’t like their debut but to me their comeback is kinda catchy (esp the rap) but hey I’m not gonna stan but I’m not going to send them hate either
refrigerator salesman they still aren't at the skill level I would consider ready to debut. There are plenty of idols that are from other asian countries or are asian american/canadian etc., but are still at a higher level of skill. May it be because they had more training or innate abilities and they also have to adapt to a new culture. Also they usually don't let trainees debut if they aren't fluent in korean or they will get super short parts until they are fluent. EXP got a lot of unreasonable hate, but they still don't live up to the Kpop standart just yet imo. Hopefully that will change with more training and hopefully people will accept them if they come out with high quality music^-^
Andres Leon People in China today do not face systemic racism and oppression from white people and view the fact that American companies are profiting off of their culture is "embracing it" rather than appropriation and borderline fetishization. They have completely different experiences than their Chinese immigrant counterparts and probably have no idea what cultural appropriation is since there is no one in China to appropriate their culture.
@@alex.chan__ There is no such thing as cultural appropriation. Culture spreads all the time through migration. This is why countries close to each other tend to have similar cultures. It wasn't until the silk road that cultures started really spreading between continents. Many things you may think are apart of your culture may not be. Many Asian countries are westernizing which from your point of view would be considered appropriation. Ever since cultures existed they have always been exchanging back and forth all the time. If people don't want their cultures being adopted by other cultures then they shouldn't migrate or let anything culturally significant leave the country.
What I also think is kind of weird is that you absolutely cannot ridicule anyone’s English pronunciation but it’s ok to criticize anyone who speaks English when they speak another language. We all should give each other more grace.
THANK YOU! I hate how here in the U.S we get ridiculed for mispronouncing names and words in other languages but when the roles are reversed no one is held to the same standard. Of course no one should ridiculed for either but we need to understand that it's okay to mispronounce words in other languages we do not speak.
@@shawnmiranda8521 No, I don't think mispronouncing words in other languages is ok . If you are learning the language and you're making mistakes ofc its ok, if its an accident its ok, but in this case I'm pretty sure they meant accent. If you have an accent you're considered not fluent in english and other languages but people normalize this wrong idea in other languages or at least when a native english speaker speaks another language. If you're flat out mispronouncing words its understandable for you to face ridicule, not right in all cases though. You should always make an effort when pronouncing words in a different language but when you're already fluent and people want to harass you for having an accent that's never acceptable.
@@shawnmiranda8521 other languages I tied to a culture so it can be seen as disrespectful if one doesn't make the effort to pronounce the words correctly. English doesn't have a culture ties to it, and most people learn English for the sake of actual survival. So, these two things are incomparable
Yeah I feel like if they did that it'd feel more natural. Like, maybe half and half. Otherwise it has this weird feeling of segregation or something while with only some non-Asian it's more of an inclusive thing.
I'm Korean. Tbh, I couldn't care less, i think their singing is good- even despite the pronunciation. Imitation is one of the greatest expressions of admiration, too, anyway. Y'ALL, those who are least involved in the actual situation are the most vocal and angry about these things. Ughhh
I know right, it's not the first time K-pop has none Korean singers. Miss A had chinese singer, blackpink has Lisa who is thai. I don't think us in asia in general really care about race. We aren't as racially divided like those in the west.

I don't know if Koreans would pay money to go the cinema to watch 'Superman', 'Harry Potter' or 'Spiderman' played by a Korean. You may say you will but if you're investing in such a movie, do you think you will make or lose money?
Carat’sFantasy exactly. also nct’s whole concept of the group is to have members from all over! refrigerator salesman how is it racism when i’m white myself. I might have sounded a little weird, but here’s what i mean.. kpop is Korean pop, sang in Korean mostly by Koreans. To me it’s just weird and wrong when you throw that whole concept around and create a kpop group full of white boys who don’t even speak Korean fluently. It just doesn’t sound right to me. It’s just an opinion, just like how i respect others opinions others should respect mine too. I don’t like them that much, i’m not hating on them or posting negative comments under their music videos or anything. You may like them, that’s fine but it’s just not it for me.

K-Pop: Korean Pop Music • They are in Korea, singing in Korean, Under a Korean entertainment group. Therefore they're a k-pop group... They may not be Korean but it doesn't matter... I'm pretty sure there's also a whole Chinese K-pop group too but no one has a problem 😂 chill tf out it's not that serious let them pursue their dreams... You guys are saying because they weren't trained they're not a k-pop group but they said they've been doing music, theater, etc. their whole lifes so they're basically trained to be in the entertainment industry... And at least they're trying... I would love to be apart of a k-pop group but I know since I'm black that would never happen so for them to do this is shows that maybe other races other than Asian probably can do it.. you just ofc have to work harder... Edit: I want them to make a whole black K-pop 😂😂 I'll definitely audition 🤷🏽♀🙌🏽
I think if they really want to be an actual Kpop group they need to boost up their Korean skills. Most foreign Kpop artist speak really good Korean but these guys doesn't
As K-Pop is, as you said by definition, Korean pop music, many would assume it to only be produced by Koreans, or others that LOOK to be Eastern Asian. However, with examples such as Alex from RANIA, Sam Okyere, Han Hyeon Min, and others, you can DEFINITELY make it as a K-Pop idol, despite your appearance. Really, you can easily make it into the industry if you have talent, drive, education, and some good looks (in usual cases with entertainment companies). If you have the will to, go one ahead and make it happen! K-Pop and the Koreas as a whole are fairly new, and who knows what can be said a few years along the line? The thing is: 1. Many Koreans and K-Pop fans love the beauty and talent that the natives of Korea have, which is why they like to see them more. Because they’re USED to it. However, with groups such as this and others that will definitely be created, anything can change. 2. You’ll need to work fairly harder. And this isn’t just for African-Americans, Africans, or other races that may have darker skin tones. This can be said about anyone who isn’t Korean. It’ll be very hard to make it because of Korea’s beauty standards, but many still do. You’ve got this! *FIGHTING!!*
K-Pop Entertainment its not just race and that they didn’t train, they aren’t skilled enough rn. If they were much more talented in singing/dancing/rapping then it would be ok. Death threats are too much tho
i find it to be a mixture of at the time they debuted they really weren't that great like in general but most of the hate is coming from overprotective oversea/foreign fans of kpop about how they're not kpop but who are they to say first they aren't a korean in korea and second they're singing in korean last time I checked that's what classified kpop cause as soon as a korean sings a song in full english lets say it's no longer considered kpop it's just pop
So true it’s like a caucasian person singing an African rap song and dressed up as a stereotypical rap artist, cruseing and say the n word. Their like wowitsvicky. Kpop is now kinda like Asian cultural music in a sorta way. It’s seems like cultural inappropriate. If they where mixed or rise in an Asian backroad it would have been acceptable. Because their are a lot of Kpop idols who are not from Korea but has a Asian backround. Like Koki’s talent would be amazing if he trained and debuted in a different group But didn’t. They never worked as hard and trained like the rest of Kpop groups. I tried to like it but it’s too cringy. There’re not a good group in general and are lacking in a million ways. Even if they had trained they would still like in image and dancing in my opinion.
Im Korean and I could not be more cool with these guys. Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Black, White, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, it does not matter with me. If you have dreams of succeeding in my country, you appreciate my country enough and you have genuine intentions in place and back them up with hard work, I will cheer for you. These guys are clearly that. They have no other intentions or ulterior motives other than making it as artists in a genre and culture that they like which is Korean music. Kpop and Korean music as a whole is a global genre alongside being a musical genre originating in Korea and for me, as long as you have genuine love and intent to understand and learn my culture and my country, were all good.
I’m not against non Koreans being kpop idols but they just don’t seem like kpop idols. Their music just doesn’t sound like kpop and their music videos look more like American music videos
aight buddy id suggest doing research before you go dissing kpop. first, it would be great if you could speak proper english. second, rap and hipop are every important parts of korean culture, and you cannot say that it belongs to 'americans.' there are extremely good rappers all over korea, and if you gave any a try, you would see that.
the_plague *doctor* kpop was inspired by American pop music... that’s why it’s called Korean pop.... Drums also originated from China and guitars originated from Spain. So you’re saying that only American music has rap? You uncultured swine😂 Also, they fucking have the freedom to dye their hair any color they want and to do whatever they want
When someone integrates your culture, cohesively learns your language, and mimics the general style, that's called a compliment. Especially, when done in earnest. Is their something illogical about someone adopting the basic fundamental culture of some place, in which they live? Why would you not inculcate integration of your homeland culture, religion, community, family, and the common core of where you reside? "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" "Satire is the sincerest form of truth"
I bet if they were younger, good looking foreigners and more trained they would be more popular. I mean so many of k pop idols have this "western look"
i think they would hit big if they actually trained under a real agency and perfected their korean , and possibly be less cringey lol but other than that they r acc good singers
I _think_ it's easier for Asians to look younger than white people because Asians usually have softer jawlines and more fat cells in their faces I believe, and (insert other scientific facts here that I'm too lazy to search up) so I think white people have a shorter amount of time to audition, and Asians have an advantage with the age range being wider.
T̶e̶a̶s̶p̶o̶o̶n̶ Mouthful of Suga good points! If I’m not mistaken, I remember watching a documentary that said Kpop is a monopoly of the big talent agencies such as SM entertainment and JYP. There have been many Kpop bands come and go but SM and JYP have the formula and the agency to help their talents make it to the top. Not saying bands from unknown agencies are snuffed out by JYP and SM but they dominate the market so do have the pattern of influence to trump smaller talent agencies and their bands.
I'm a Korean and I have no fucking idea why this is an issue at all. K pop is for everyone! It can be sung by everyone! These guys are not stealing our culture, they are promoting Korea's culture for us and I'm super thankful.
I believe that everyone can have their own opinions, but death threats are too much. Music does not revolve around someones race, no matter what genre it is. I believe that Bora Kim is a very logical person for making this group and putting them together. Even if this was just an experiment, and may not last forever, it's better to have an open mind and at least appreciate the hard work then to only throw hate at them for even trying.
they definitely do not deserve death threats, whoever sent those really need a sit down with some councillors... but we can’t force people to agree with this too, it’s a completely different thing to what people are used to. in my opinion, kpop groups should consist of only asian members, but that’s my opinion, i’m not going to hate on those who agree with the whole idea of change. i remember there was a group with a french girl, they got so much hate which was sad. i just think that if you don’t agree with it, just say that rather than wishing death upon people.
I think koki couldve debuted in a korean group. Because he has an asthetic they look for. Bcoz he is halfie with euro standard. But i appreciate the group's drive .so why the hate, especially from international fans. Its so toxic.kpop is for everyone.
“Foreign kpop fans mainly American feel this need to protect kpop, even though it’s not really their’s to protect.” Couldn’t have said it better myself. Get a job kpop stans
They love to blame America but majority of people protecting kpop are people in Korea I've seen it they'll tell black people not to do kpop because they're not Korean or live there and it's Lowkey racist and they'll be mad if we told them not to do kpop rap techno rock and roll country music blues r&b and more they must've forgotten that kpop was literally based off African American culture if it wasn't for African Americans kpop wouldn't be in existence
Koreans didn't invent pop, they didn't really create anything in K-Pop. All of this is stuff they took from Americans/Europeans and then corporatized/manufactured to a deeper level.
It’s not JUST bcs they’re white it’s bcs they don’t fit the standards. They didn’t train as hard as the standard trainee. Their Korean isn’t that good. I feel as though maybe if they trained longer and like a normal kpop group then they would be more largely excepted by the kpop community. so like if they actually learned korean before debuting and already had proper vocal and dance training then it wouldn’t be as much as a problem.
Officially Kook that's what im saying!! Like all this foreigners in the kpop industry worked hard to learn how to dance, rap/sing better and learn korean fluently if they want to be as successful as them then work hard like them
I think a big part of the problem is the sole reason they’re white, and that’s sad. Like duh it’s a little different to have non-Koreans in kpop, but for some reason, like half of the kpop community online hates white people??? I don’t get it but I’ve noticed. And they didn’t train as much as normal idols, but they were started as some girl’s project... I don’t think she wanted to wait 3+ years to get her project going :// but i think even if their Korean skills improved, people will just hate them bc their race. Sad.
Officially Kook is IT because they're white. y'all just don't want to admit it. even if they were an incredibly talented group, they'd still be getting shit for not being asian.
Listen to Pentagon - Shine theres quite a few foreign kpop idols from japan/china or other places that dont speak perfect korean. this is a dumb argument lmao. i dont think theyre very good either but blaming your hate on their level of fluency is idiotic
BTS outtalented and outsold sis I AM perfectly fine with them being white??? I could literally care less about what race they are. The only reason I don’t like them is because they obviously did NOT train even 1/5 the amount a normal kpop idol or trainee would. I really appreciate the fact that they are trying to improve themselves after debut but I’m just saying that maybe just MAYBE if they trained as normal trainees do and learned basic korean pronunciation before debut then they would get as much hate.
I think a lot of people would accept them if they only acted more...natural? Their songs, style, dancing, singing all seem forced in a way. I think a change of concept would help the group grow.
I haven’t listened to any of their songs yet as of writing this comment, but I kind of agree. They have the same feel as that of Chad Future. Trying too hard to look cool. They seem relatively more authentic though since they actually took the time to learn Korean (and not just memorize Korean lyrics) and spent time IN Korea. I’m not averse to their ages, but it DOES look awkward. It could also be because they don’t have the formal training unlike actual Korean teens who trained specifically for this. They were just gathered up by a student and started practice from there. Hence the feeling of inauthenticity and awkwardness. Plus if they started doing this at that late an age, they’re not gonna be able to do more interesting and complex choreographies. Edit: Okay I just watched their Stress MV and hey it wasn’t that bad. The tallest dude has an awesome voice, and the rapper was actually pretty good. They just needed a better producer, choreographer, videographer...better everything, to be honest. But on their own, they’re okay.
Exactly. Theres nothing wrong with non-koreans wanting to be singers in korea. The problem is the fact that they act like they are a teenage kpop group. They behave like cute teen idols, but they are adults and they look like adults. Sorry but is IS really cringey. They need to get a more mature vibe, or else no one will take them seriously
No Korean in this video said “isn’t it only for Koreans” the Koreans find it awkward and weird ofc because its foreigners speaking their language but they aren’t against it
yet foriegn kpop fans somehow get mad saying everybody singing in korean has to for some reason be korean, and can't just go "it's unusual, and doesn't apeal to me". like kpop is such an oversatutated market that almost every group thats not super mainstream caters to a specific nitche. also like 50% of people are saying they shouldn't be allowed because they're old. honesty fuck that, people who are older can start careers. like they'd seriously stop listening to someone when they hit 30?
Of course their not gonna show koreans saying that they don't want to expose a person that's gonna speak negativly on a person on a big youtube base duhhhh
So are we going to ignore the fact that hip hop and R&B is not Korean(Asian) culture and they are incorporating it in their music and claiming it as their own?........I swear 2020 is really messed up

@@yurix6072 I said they "look", not that they are. Plus, there are actors, actresses and idols in korea that are in their 30's almost 40 that look younger than them. For example Jang Nara(36), Song Joong Ki(33) and many others. And I get it that it's because of "genetics", but this gives you the prespective of why they're not getting popular. They look too old to be idols.
As a Korean, I wish the best for them. Americans need to chill out with the whole cultural appropriation thing. Whenever something Korean starts to become a mainstream thing, whether it's a musical phenomenon or an entertainment thing, Koreans are glad that people around the world are embracing it. When I first hear about this group, I cringed. But looking at how hard they're trying, I can only hope that the saying "hard work pays" is a reliable one.
+ Erock Stoenescu Really? What is difference among all pop music from the rest of the world? By the way, which country had the origin of "pop music" then who copied it first"?
People are idiots and think you have to be of a certain race to be of that culture of said race. Being of a race doesn't mean you download a bunch of culture data when you're born. It's not the matrix where you turn a certain age and automatically learn ancestral music that dates back to your root or modern culture. You can endow yourself with culture by living in a place where those cultural practices are taught. Cultural appropriation is just people getting away with racism by saying XYZ can't XYZ. People that cry cultural appropriation are doing the same things white supremacists wish they could do. Which is tell white people they shouldn't integrate with other races in away way, shape, or form. These people are too stupid to understand this though.
@@erockstoenescu6171 Well the modern pop music was pioneer by ABBA and other similar pop groups at the time. ABBA didn't invent pop music they pioneered it. What I mean by pioneer is that they took other forms of music and made something distinctly different. No genres of music just pop out of thin air. They are all adopted from other forms of music which spread all over the world. Pop came from rock n roll. If you go back further rock n roll came from jazz and soul. There was definitely pop music before ABBA but it was ABBA that pioneered the more modern pop style that is still used today.
Half the members in GOT/ and Blackpink for example are foreigners but they actually auditioned, trained, learned korean and nobody is complaining. It' not about being foreigners but about the fact that they just skip the incredibly hard process of being a trainee and expect the same acclaim and success as other idols.. smh
aisha Blackpink only has one non-korean, try Twice that is the most popular girl group in Korea and Asia and has 4 non-korean members, three being Japanese and Korea n Japan has a bad relationship so they’re revolutionary
I don't necessarily see why it's so bad that these guys wanna be a Kpop group. Kpop literally borrows elements from other genres like Hip Hop & R&B and blends it with Korean culture. That's essentially like saying that someone can't rap in Korean because they aren't of that race. What about guys like Kris Wu? He was a Chinese Canadian but was in a Korean boy band. It goes both ways.
OkxyClaire exactly. While I admit that it's a very cut throat industry that demands a lot of hard work and effort. These guys aren't hurting anything. And I think they'll be alright as long as they master their craft and take it seriously.

existential dread I agree all the way because look what BTS went through and they think they can just go like that no honey not today they should at least train a little
yananuto maybe to you, but many people in korea don't care that they aren't asian from what i've heard and personally that doesn't bother me. there are non asians in the industry as well they just aren't as popular.
Jade Bram yes, groups go through a lot to debut and have a lot of hardships, which i'm not saying exp hasn't had because clearly they have struggled with not being accepted into the industry but the fact that they just got to debut without even knowing the language to a comprehensive level is so bizarre to me.
The guy that is half Japanese may be able to make it as a kpop idol because he’s at least half Asian but I don’t know about the others. I think not being Asian is part of the problem to the people who think they can’t be a kpop group or idol.

"When you look at K-POP, there's nothing that's traditionally Korean in it" I totally agree, the clothing, dance, music and etc. came from the west particularly the Hip-Hop movement (Bronx, NY)
*iLuvSugaKookies* Look, everyone knows kpop is influenced by black culture, but it also has it's own unique sound. It's not all about black culture in fact it's more about hip hop culture than just black culture, they're not specifically targeting black people, it's just the music. Kpop is so much more than hip hop music and there are tons of songs without the influence.
It's not that people hate them bc they're foreigners it's bc they lack of talent and visuals, that's about it. If you want to be in the kpop industry you'll be treated just like any other rookie, what is under line (and seems they forget) is that they will not be treated different or better or even have success just because of the fact they're americans
I agree! They don’t deserve death threats, but they’re clearly lacking in a lot of areas compared to many Kpop groups and it’s dumb if they entered this cutthroat industry thinking that they wouldn’t be criticized
Not the fact, I'm korean and many kpop fans aka koreaboos tend to like korean groups despite that if they dont have any talent the race and face matters, they be like aweeee he cant do that so cute oppa~~~~ But foreigners they are so jealous of them so they make reasons to hate to unconditionally like you
Kaefmarie keep in mind there's a lot of kpop idols who are not Korean. The difference is that those idols have trained for years to be in a group. I highly doubt EXP is training 12hs every day. They don't have a proper training whatsoever and it seems in a way everything was easier to them, they started as an "experiment" and now people won't take them seriously. You get what you give.
Ive seen them on 이웃집찰스, one member was actually musical singer and things like that If u wanna talk shit about them, dont try to find the reason to hate them jesus
it looks like they’re really passionate and love kpop for what it is without wanting to change who they are or imitate other groups. they’re learning the language, they’re trying to assimilate, and it doesn’t look like they’re trying to make a mockery of the genre. while it’s not my cup of tea, i think it’s cool for them :)
The amount of hate they get is so disgusting. They honsetly don't deserve the hate, sure, constructive criticism is fine, but people are being straight up cruel. The worst part is that most of their hate comes from non asian fans that think they know everything about """kpop culture"""
They skipped the training progress, meaning that they lack alot of the qualities and talents that K-pop artists have. Their pronunciation have alot of over emphasis and mispronounced words. It's not because they are white dudes in K-pop but rather that they often get recognized because they are white. K-pop rookies go through intense training to get to debut, often ending in nobody knowing about them. These guys got the easier end in those terms because they didn't have to experience the years of training and struggle to be known.

Theanimegirl 18 yes but if you listen closely to the video. Some woman gathered a bunch of people then trained them then selected these guys. I understand the frustration honestly but the emotional trauma people face during their training days till being idols is too much and if there’s a better more softer way of moving around that then I’m happy
Theanimegirl 18 not really. US is as hard as it’s with KPOP they’re a lot of standers required in America music industry as it is in kpop. You have to look the part sound someway. If they tried to go and sing a style of kpop in English in America they’ll just get hate. And they love kpop so that’s why they wanted to go on that journey on becoming a kpop star and enjoy music.
Of course they would. The hate was totally unproportional to their performance. An unprofessional music group made out of asian looking people, wouldn't have caused such an uproar.
I ask you to be realistic. You know how huge the internet is itself. Even if they did an introduction video (I don't know if they did), the video would get lost! And no one would have watched it. Just try to be realistic please....newer K-POP fans don't even do history research or know legendary groups that led K-POP's history, so why the hell would they look up an introduction video of EXP or something. I am not trying to be mean by any chance by the way. It only would have worked if let's say, SM Entertainment debuted them but even then, you guys would have a bitter after taste. I am asking everyone who loved K-POP to open their mindset. You guys are not Korean yourself and you love it when your idols speak English or when concerts take place at your cities don't you? Don't be that harsh the other way around...The guys have a dream. Just like you and me. It is not even that much I am asking for right now..
DarkAngelNr13 who said I'm not Korean? and besides that's not what I meant by introduction. I meant like a proper debut , it's clearly stated that this was an experiment.
Okay okay but jokes aside, *they're trying.* They're working hard and they want to try. _Yes,_ maybe they're a little cringey but if u don't want to stan don't. I actually think it's kinda good to try new things. It's their lifes and just let them be. There's no need to hate just go mind your own business.
In case you haven't realised, "trying" is worthless in Asian culture. You need to actually succeed before you are acknowledged. There are no "participation" medals in Asia, only winners.
elmohead well maybe to you but there is always only one winner. Nobody is a winner from the start. As u see they're still together and still making songs and hey they're more popular then some really good underrated kpop artists. They found a way to get attention and they do have some *Korean* fans. But hey this isn't affecting neither yours or my life so let them try whatever they want with their life.
elmohead But the audience you're saying this to is made up of all kinds of people, not just Asian. There are people in this comment section who value effort. It's not that they don't "realize" that about Asian culture, but we also see it as harsh and borderline abusive.
I was very ready to hate this group but after watching the entire video I changed my mind. Hearing that Korean citizens don’t have a problem with it, made me feel weird for my initial anger towards this. I did have to step back and remember, I myself am not Korean, and yet I felt the initial anger and need to protect k pop which I have no right to protect or ownership of to do so. Such an interesting topic. As an American I still feel a little weird about it but I think for the wrong reasons. As an asian (though not Korean) I don’t really have a problem with this at all.
But with many koreans members in it ^^;;; The foreigners learn the culture and improve the language through them. If a group if made only of asians and doesn't have many koreans it is Z-Pop, it exists xD
Kpop has the letter k which stands for Korea and pop which is just pop. And those groups have at least a few Koreans. It’s explicit it is Korean pop not international or other country pop. Really don’t like these ideas of just a group of foreigners not Korean.😡but again that just my opinion.
I don't stan them but the hate they're getting is really unnecessary. It's alright if people don't like them or their music but at least just respect them smh
maybe they have made enemies because they are conniving assholes? ever consider that? not everybody are nice people.. some people cut throats to "get a head"... geddit? You dont just make enemies for being different... there is always a reason people hate your guts enough to want to kill you and the odds are always in favor of you deserving it at some level or another...
Not at all. People can hate them because they are jealous of their success, or because they are racist. People can hate for many different, equally stupid reasons. Many times it's because they are dissatisfied with their own lives and need a target to project these negative feelings onto, instead of looking at themselves and risk hurting their ego.
*I'll have to admit white people such a culture vulture we don't have culture so we tried to steal from other Asian culture Black Culture literally every culture we trying to steal*
@@DublinJimmy80 i have to disagree with that statement. People have dreams and in order for them to reach those dreams is that they have to work hard for it. However, it doesn't mean that they are free from the struggles in this world.
They are not good, BUT they are also not THAT bad. I like to see myself as an open-minded conservative. I don't think that this is "cultural appropriation". I will admit it is a bit cringy, but I am not closed to the idea. I actually like their song Stress. It is cool. One thing that I must say is a little messed up is that other idols get famous through YEARS AND YEARS of training in kpop training industries, but that is the only major thing that bothers me about the idea. I think they should let other races into these training camps. They are definitely worse at dancing, pronunciation, and they look weird doing it...but who am I to hate this? If they got a little better at particularly dance and pronunciation I think this is GOOD progress in a music genre that I love. Rap/hiphop has been a primarily black culture genre, however we got Eminem and now in the 2020s MANY more white artists. Is that bad?
don’t take this the wrong way but what I personally think seems a bit off is that they look rougher?? Korean men seem to look softer?? like face structure with the cheek bones and noses. I think that’s the thing people are seeing but not able to recognise and explain. also they don’t sound like kpop it sounds very western and they look like 30 yr olds trying to be 19. if this was not the case I would stan tf outta them idc if they white it’s kpop
bunny miller yeah I know but it’s not the same thing. kpop is a more refined version of pop (that’s neither a good or bad thing to just how it is and give it the ‘kpop sound’) so yes I agree it’s got lots of western elements it’s still got a different ‘sound’ compared to just pop :)
@@starlight.genesis It's cause they aren't actually asian, even tho i don't really have a problem with non asians in kpop. (although there is a Korean member). But that's not only why, they don't speak korean and they didn't really train that well. Their song was badly mixed and produced too. Also they kinda act koreabish? idk tho Also, some parts of their choreography has been stolen from everglow and Blackpink, editing was stolen from TXT. But the main reason people have hate for them is because of false rumours made by antis. Some of the rumours are that they are in the same company as Oli London, another one is that one of the members shipped herself with Jungkook, and another that their fandom name is "Koochie" , also they supposedly called jennie lazy, I'm not sure about that tho. Also a rumour is that their "lightstick" (which looks terrible) got released, which is false too. Overall i think they have potential if they trained harder and if their company didn't steal everything. So yeah that's my explanation lol
Trust me, if Bora Kim went to a Korean and said "tHerE's noThinG kOrEaN abOuT kPop - y'All jUsT aPprOpriAtEd aFrIcAN MuSIC" they would 100% be offended
Koreans are offended but we are too polite to say it to their face. Being an artist is about authenticity not going through a training program to be molded into something you are not..and the accents are horrendous..but there's an audience for everything.
I just watched the first woman make her comment about the ownership of KPop. Whilst I get it, it seemed a bit off considering K-pop has taken a lot of influence (and at times appropriated) American black music. So it feels a bit hypocritical considering K-pop’s background.
___-- it’s not that.. it’s more like “what are those old men doing in kpop?” One of the reasons why kpop is popular is because of their looks.. young and pretty looking. But those guys (except koki) They are look like 30 or 40.. They look to old for kpop
Nap shine,, yes really true although I don’t like there music it’s just my opinion but I feel like they shouldn’t be treated like that just because of there looks or where there from.
Devil's Adv0cate i think it’s weird that ALL of them are not korean/asian and if they were younger and their visuals were more suited and their music was less garbage i don’t think it would’ve been a bad thing
almond milk One of them is half asian. But I do agree that better pronounciation and maybe higher quality music would help them a lot. That being said, I don't want them to "get the hell out of Korea". It seems they have some fans that they make happy, and for me that is enough.

I'm a korean and I'm sad to say that this is cringe... but I do believe some other western people can make it... and they look kind so I kind of feel bad for writing this... lol
The thing that makes it harder for them is that they went through no training and they can’t fit with other idols because of the image they make for themselves. It’s also very awkward when I see them dance. Like I am fine with one foreigner in the group but a group of unprofessional singers, dancer and rapper are trying to become kpop idols . It’s not that easy .
Jessica Gong well then I guess they had bad teachers . Just acting and being a kpop idol isnt natural for them . It’s just cringe ( I don’t want to be mean but it’s kind of true)
I agree. I would think it would be very refreshing to see one foreigner in a korean group, but these boys do not really fit into the korean standards as we know them. I think they would be pretty successful if they were an american group. But one foreigner in a group full of koreans would be nice, but only if s/he is really well trained.
シュリンプpt2 I absolutely agree . Race also plays an important role in a kpop group. Maybe seeing one or two foreigners in a kpop group is fine but they just look like a bunch of American boys trying to become kpop idols.
its not totally because theyre white its because they look really old arent that attractive as compared to other idols in the industry dont have interesting songs or vocal ability it also feels like the group is a social experiment instead of a genuine group since the creator created this as an art project their choreos arent that great and neither are their mvs there are plenty of non korean idols that are successful but if you look at the difference of the quality, youll understand why ppl dont like exp edition
There are literally Thai, Chinese, and etc kpop stars one, Txt pretty popular, has a member who is half Brazilian German, half Korean, he is equally popular as his other Korean members, it’s just the way they are, they are blaming kpop fans for not being popular even though it’s just them, people just don’t like them and they keep blaming others for not blaming popular, does Kai from Txt complain that their not as popular as Bts? No, he doesn’t blame kpop fans for not being as popular as others, people just don’t like them, sometimes people don’t like regular kpop groups either.
They don't really "age" faster, their skin is more sensitive and prone to damage so it just gets damaged more as they age. But studies about development, fertility, onset of menopause, menarchy and life stepectancy actually have shown that white people ten to mature and age at a slower rate. That is probably a good thing for whites, since it means whites live longer lives and have longer fertility periods, they have better succès when it comes to fertility treatments at older ages... This might not be inherently biological though, and external factors like poverty and stress can affect the rate at which you age, black people face more poverty and stress and this is linked to early sexual development in children and shorter life spans
Ok but what really gets to me is the fact there’s literally no reason for them to be doing this instead of trying to break in the american pop market. If, like they said, there’s nothing different from kpop and american pop except for the language, then why go out of your way when you dont even know the language and have bad pronunciation. It feels like satire to us because, unlike other kpop idols they skip the hardship that comes with debuting (auditioning for agencies, training for years, mastering their skills), just because they are white. Not to be mean, but what do they have to offer, when there are hundreds of more talented, more experienced, younger people who know korean and were raised there,, so isnt the only thing they are offering supposedly that they are white?wasnt that what the whole “experiment” was surrounded by, their race?? and isnt that off to you?..and then they got some clout so they continued. Also, to the lady that said that theres nothing traditionally korean in kpop. You are right. Nothing TRADIONALLY korean. But there is a whole ass culture behind it, one that only exists in the asian world (like aegyo for ex, this is very much an asian cultural characteristic). As we all know, kpop is not a genre! Its an industry. Kpop stans dont only listen to the music, but watch vlives and dance practices and reality shows of the kpop idols and learn about their culture. This is what kpop means as well, it comes with it. So when you’re not from that culture (not the race i could care less, but the culture) then to me its not kpop. Since they are tryin to become another culture isnt that more than just appreciating? if they were girls ppl would call them out for being koreaboos so fast lmao. My question comes down to what is their motive, if not to jumpstart their career because the western market is almost impossible to break into. And guess what, its even more impossible for asians to break into, and that’s what kpop is, its a platform where asians can actually be represented in the music industry... anyway, I cant help but find this cringy. Does anyone agree with my opinion? (Edit: Btw i’m not trying to hate on these guys. It’s their life they can do what they want to. Maybe if they were better at singing and dancing and even younger like other idols this wouldn’t seem so off/unfair to me.)
kalliope kyriakopoulou I couldn't agree more, if they had smth special to offer other than being white it wouldn't be a big problem but tbh they don't have anything phenomenal to offer. And K-pop is such a hard industry to be successful in cuz there are alot of talented ppl in the industry that are struggling.
Because they want to? Because they like this? Why would foreigners listen to songs in other languages either when they have their own music to listen to? What's the objective? What's your objective for listening to kpop?
kalliope kyriakopoulou they did audition as said in the video, i also think they skipped the long training because it was supposed to be an experiment but a long term team.
Visually they do look really cringy. The music video and their dance choreography have made me feel like I'm watching a couple of 40 year-old pretending to be cute. it is uncomfortable. Had those been offered of the same music video and dance choreography to a male K-pop group (excluding them), they would blend in together and become an art and actually looks cool. Unfortunately, it is a fact that not all styles are suitable for everybody. Looks do play a big role, and unfortunately only the Asian looking dude fits the theme. I'm also thinking that the last guy who soloed in the final take is probably the only path they should choose if they want to stand any chance to break into the Korean music scene or any music scene for that matter. Drop the dance, drop the unnecessary movement, and just stay with the classic. I'm going to end by saying this, when they do it, it looks gay, no joke.
I agree with your comment, but why are you bashing them by saying they look gay? Like seriously, that's not only an insult towards them, but also to the LBTQ community. What defines gay? Why is it considered an insult? And if someone called your favorite kpop group gay, you would be outraged. So why is it okay to use that on them?
@@AnnaHeey i think It's more like a truth that a lot of people see and agree, not just an unreasonable insult. Even i still think that exo sometimes looks gay bcs some of their dance moves & clothes, but i love them bcs they're cute and straight 10 in either vocal or visual. So maybe these guys could just work harder to get that 10/10 skill so people would stop focusing on the looking-like-gay side and start appreciate their performance~ still i'm sorry if this is considered as an insult to the lgbtq community though
Crafter but we have groups like bts who try to act like babies and exo. the point of being cute and acting like a baby is the point because it will attract teenage girls
This is a subject where only us whose race is chinese japenese korean will understand. for chinese language whenever any american and anybody from the western culture WILL always sound weird when they speak the language and its because of their accent so we usually refer to it as the ah mo accent(at least in where i stay) Same goes for korean So shut up next time
Okay let’s be honest... a large part of Kpop is the attractiveness of the idols and honestly these guys aren’t that cute. Like literally the half Japanese guy is the cutest one there
yawningdon Lol it’s funny how you liked your own comment. Also if you truly believe attractiveness isn’t a factor in being a Kpop Idol you’re truly clueless.
yawningdon yeah well my comment wasn’t about whether beauty should matter in the kpop world. I was just pointing out that they literally would not be accepted because they aren’t stereotypically “attractive”, idk what you’re going on about.
The guy is right. I know a lot of people that follow BTS not because they actually like their music, but because of their visuals, especially with the maknae line (Jungkook, V, Jimin). Especially V, like he isn't really given a chance with his musical talent in BTS songs whereas Jimin and Jungkook are at least, so most of his fans like him because he's a good height and is attractive. If you think I'm wrong, like 90% of groups have their official "visual" usually among the top in popularity unless it's a group that arguably has multiple visuals or idols who are possibly part of a "visual line" (like SinB). Yoona, Irene, Naeun, Tzuyu, Dara, Kyungri, Hani, Kyulkung/Xiyeon, etc. Then there's Chanyeol/Kai/Sehun (although everyone in EXO is pretty much a visual IMO), Hyunjin and Felix (surely part of the visual line), Jinyoung/Mark, although, I don't think it's as prominent in boy groups since their visuals can be indifferent.
@Exmortis 999 Beacause many people hear/watch kpop because of the visuals etc., and not just for the music, they want pretty looking people to be their idols, not just men in their 30.. Btw. that's not what i think about it, just how it mostly is.
it's so stupid that people think they can't be a band because of their age. do they have less apeal? yes. but are there people who don't care about age or prefer older/more simular to their age people? yes. you shouldn't be stopped from doing something because you aren't young.
@@unplayednamer0165 no dude. there are litterally people in the comments section saying they're too old and hence too unattractive to be able to be a group. I agree that being older decreases apeal, but some people are seriously out there saying older people can't do it because they're "too old" and they think that all kpop idols have to be young and attractive, and not looking perfect somehow breaks the rules of kpop
The reason why international kpop fans are so pressed about exp edition wanting to break through in Korea is because of the lack of Asian representation we have in Western culture. With kpop becoming bigger, there are finally idols who Asian kids can recognize themselves in whereas in Korea western media doesnt dominate mediaculture. They see people on tv with the same culture who actually look like them so seeing a white kpop group isnt threatening to their representation in their country
TheGreenerItGets you seem to totally miss my point. Kpop is becoming bigger in the Western part of the world but that doesnt mean that its dominating the media already. Western media culture still mainly represents caucasians. For kpop to finally gain atrention here Asians have another way to be represented. Exp edition wanting to become kpop stars is throwing this whole idea away. If kpop starts to become 'white' the representation that is part op kpop starts to disappear
randomsheep11 but are they asian? Yeah poc are becoming more represented, especially in the US, but not all poc's. Hiphop, soul, jazz etc has been around for a long time and that had black representation written all over it. Now the latinos are bringing their latin songs into the Western media. Asians are significantly less represented that's a fact. If we were to see Asians in movies for example they most likely are portrayed as an Asian stereotype and almost never are they the main character
The asian guy and the blonde guy are the only two that look maybe young enough. The other two guys look like they’re late 30s or something. Its just too jarring compared to traditional kpop groups looks.
Jackie Jinse that should be his back up plan in case things start to go south...they all need escape plans tbh cuz I don’t think this gonna pan out in the long term if they were expecting to be global or something
I think that's something a lot of people are pointing out here in the comments though, the fact that the only guy that Kpop fans seem to like is the half-East Asian guy. I personally think he should stick with his friends because they're working together - so I just personally want to know why so many people only like him. Is it really just talent or something? (I know you specifically said looks but many say talent as well). What if one of the others was that way? I still feel like many others only like him because of his ethnicity, even if you don't specifically
They don't speak fluently. Even very famous idols that are not fully korean still getting hate when they say something wrong. Those guys think Sana, Momo, Mina, Samuel, Ten, Peniel, Lisa and others non-korean or non-fully koreans don't get hate???? They get the same amount of hate and love, some of those idols received dead threads too. I don't like to see someone crying, I don't like when someone receives a lot of hate, but they don't dance really well like others idols, I don't like their music, that's all.
No no they still get more hate for them and there music....it's plaimy and simple...don't back peddle now when documentary's are showing what bad side of K-pop y'all resprsent.. absolutely disgusting thous artist are established and still don't get as much hate as you do
because theyre racist. it's like saying country is for whites, rap is for blacks and mariachi bands are always mexican. Either youre racist or you be inclusive, you cant pick and choose.
@@hxnxp04 I can see with that and your other senseless comments under this video that your opinion is that just asians are "allowed" in Kpop, am I right? then please tell me would it be okay if a Turkish a Russian a Arab or a Indian(etc.) person would become a idol because all of them are asians, so would that be okay for you or do you think that just east and south east asians can become Kpop idols? and would it be okay for you if just American people could act in Hollywood movies and asians not. please answer my questions so that I can understand you opinion about white people in Kpop better?
@@hxnxp04 Please answer my questions 1.why should just east and south east Asians be in Kpop what's with south, central or west asians (Indians, Arabians, Kazakhs or people from any other asian country) why wouldn't they be okay in Kpop for you, they all are asians even though they don't look `asian`. Where is the difference between an Indian and a Japanese in Kpop? 2. Your right with saying that the most asians in American movies are asian-american but this has the reason that they have to speek English perfectly and most mainland asians are not the best English speekers but what's with Steven yeun(born in Seoul), Henry golding(born in Kuching), ki hong lee(born in Seoul), Chrystal Liu( born in Wuhan) and I could tell you hundred more NOT AMERICAN asians who played in famous American movies. All of them are not from America but still actors in America, so why shouldn't westerners be in Kpop, like if they speak Korean well where is the fuckin problem. 3. I talked about this topic with my Korean friends and yes they life in Korea and all of them told me that they wouldn't have a problem with non asians in Kpop and their are also videos about that topic where Koreans say that they don't mind, but you a person which probably isn't even Korean is deciding for a country that you don't even belong to. please stop deciding what people can't do just because of their looks and nationality everybody should have a chance to fulfill their dreams, if they want to be idols that's should be okay and no Im not a fanboy and I don't like their music either but I don't hate them because of their origins just like you.
I don’t support them not because of their race but because of how they got in the industry. A lot of young asians (not only korean) dreams to become idols. Asian people aren’t being really represent in the west so kpop is a way to pursue their dream of becoming singer. Becoming a trainee is hard and it just get harder after their debut (and that’s only if they debut). They are having a hard time getting fame like almost every groups because K-POP is a hard industry. They believed that they could debut and automatically get the same fame as others who trained for years before debuting.
This is such bullshit, just admit it, you don't like the fact that they're white. There are plenty of newer idols who barely trained and had their fame handed to them but it's okay to you because they're either Korean or some other type of Asian. A lot of newer idols and really fucking untalented but no one bats an eye simply because they're Asian or Korean.
You are so racist. What about this was easy? They go through the same thing any other foreigner in kpop would. FX LUNA TRAINED FOR 3 MONTHS before she debuted
I'm gonna be real for a sec, there's so many non-Korean idols that literally had to learn Korean from scratch and also audition into a group. It's because *they look Asian* which gives them a free pass to be a successful idol. If you look at it this way, these guys from EXP Edition aren't any different, it's just that they're American rather from any Asian country or know any Asian languages. The fact that they are willing to *specifically go into K-pop rather than American Pop* says a lot. Not once did they slander Korean culture or made fun of any Asian languages, they are willing to accept and *learn* and I think that's very important. The style of *K-pop* is very unique rather than American pop where people are able to gain success overnight for having a one night stand with another celebrity or some sort of scandal or something very messy. In my own opinion, I think they went into K-pop purely for the style of the music and how amazing this genre is in itself. It's just overall exciting and I can relate to that a lot because compared to American music, K-pop has meaningful lyrics, amazing choreography, and overall groups that give so much to their fans. (not saying that American singers don't, it's just to a different degree) It's just so different, I think giving them hate is very unrealistic and stupid, they're trying something new and putting themselves out there even if it may not measure to the "normal" standards of idols in K-pop, they really are doing their best and I commend them for that.
мαкι ηιsнιкιησ You’re correct, we should not give them hate and these men have actually put in a lot of effort and work. However, that does not require anyone to like their music or enjoy their dances. Best of luck to them.
They went into Kpop because they thought it would be easier (because they're white) and knew they couldn't make it into the American music industry. These guys would never make in the American music industry either. They just aren't that good. Plain and simple.
But they don’t make kpop music?? They just make American music and sing it in Korean? Not even their style is Related to kpop or anything.. the only kpop think that makes them feel slightly less weird is the dance choreo
fuck you they are trying to achieve their dreams how would you feel if you were doing something that you love and someone said"this is the longest snl skit😂😂" i bet you would be pissed they are actually pretty good and i stan them if your just here to spread hate then you can leave ok?
Like what was mentioned in the video, the people bothered about it are not Koreans themselves and only have experienced Korean culture on the surface. I live in South Korea. There actually isn’t anything cultural about Kpop except the ‘idol training’ which even many Koreans have recently bypassed anyway. Its not like a massive American corporation has sent them over to invade the kpop scene.. these guys clearly love what they do and to be able learn a whole language and all the practice.. how could this not be admirable? Final note: Kpop is not ‘pop sung by Koreans’!!!!!! Kpop is pop music in the korean language!!!!!!!!
And I kid you not! Watch in the next 5-10years when YG/SM debut groups with westerners. Then all these ‘KPop wannabe gurus’ gonna ride the wave like no tomorrow.
i don’t mean to come across rude but even if white k-pop groups were a thing, this group still wouldn’t be popular because they don’t have the visuals or charm. their skills are mediocre. their singing is pretty good but singing is like what...30% of what makes up a k-pop group. visuals are important!!! charm!!! humour!!! being able to do the most tiring dance choreo 5 times a day while singing & still looking good!!! sorry but i just don’t think they have the “it” factor, they seem like sweet, well-intended guys tho.
People are so pathetic. So how about no blacks in metal. No Asians in an R&B group. No whites, Puerto Rican’s, woman, or Koreans in rap music. Nothing but whites in country music. Music needs these kind of cultural exchanges to stay exciting!!!!
most of yall in the comment section have got it so wrong as to WHY kpop stans dislike exp - ITS NOT because kpop stans 'fetishise east asian', ffs a majority of kpop stans are east asian (including me), its bc kpop is a platform for east asians (whether theyre from the west or not) to be represented in the music industry. why do you think that asian americans (or asian australians etc) such as jennie (new zealand) & rose (australian) from bp, mark and johnny from nct (american) go to korea and become a trainee to fill out their dreams of being a musician instead of attempting to break into the west? bc the asian presence in the western music (and entertainment) industry is practically non existent, trying to make it big as an asian in the western music industry is like trying to win the lottery. which is why i and many other kpop stans dislike exp BECAUSE theyre white men who are trying to capitalise on the ‘trend’ of kpop when they 1) they didnt kno how to speak korean before and 2) they can make it in the west bc white men are overrepresented in the western music industry, and have no racial barriers/biases against them in the music industry (seeing as how essentially all of the western music/entertainment industry is run by white males) and hence it would be much easier for them to break into the industry as opposed to an asian artists trying to make it in the west. And also theres the fact that they didnt train for long and definitely do not have the expected quality of performance (singing/rapping, dancing, stage presence, etc) that is seen and expected in 'good' kpop groups (i.e. the ones that are relatively successful). [half of this comment was copy & pasted from my reply to another comment]
"kpop is a platform for east asians to be represented in the music industry" where is this same energy when kpop groups are being interviewed, praised, and allowed to perform in America? Because then you all just say "Kpop spreading to the USA is what the world needed" or some dumb shit along those lines, what's the difference between EXP performing in Korea versus other Kpop groups performing in America and talking chopped English or no English?
Race aside: they are kinda bad dancers and the singing is good but nothing special. Being a Kpop idol or any kind of artist really takes really hard work and talent. They didn't went through the training needed to even being CONSIDERED for a real audition, and they are running out of time because of their age. Get an all black, all white, all latino, or all non-asian kpop bands you want, as long as they work like everyone else because for now, it kinda looks like the only thing they used to expand their fandom was their races.
I hope they don’t get into the big 3 companies, so they can disband in a few years and go back to where they came from. There are small kpop groups who are actually Korean/asian who have better talent than them and they can’t even make their group popular. Only reason why these men would be known is for their race
Have you ever watched any of their live performances bec I've been a kpop fan for 9 years and in all fairness, their live is better than most kpop groups, even some of the famous ones. They don't perform with very loud AR and just lip sync like what others normally do. And yeah, their dancing is still lacking but there's potential.
Kpop is not just about music, it's also about visuals and fanbase. Why people love kpop so much is because of their youthness, fashion, and aura. No hate, they're all deserving but not just fitted in a kpop industry. Idol groups are a product that is molded and manufactured to cater the fans. That is what they will always lack.
This is actually kinda.. sad? Like they clearly work hard, and their aware that what they are doing also brings a lot of hate towrds them. Not gonna lie, i avoided this video because i thought it was gonna be so cringy but i actually come to respect them more. As stated in the video, they didnt have to do the training like kpop groups usually go through, with that said they also had to learn a new language and how to dance with little to no prior experience. Its unfair but that doesnt mean they arent working hard. I think if people in the kpop community were more open minded and accepting, they could really go somewhere.
food yeah, okay so, thats definitely a good reason for death threats and being a plain asshole to these men right? But clearly the *real* "sickening" part is that their *white men* trying to break into the kpop industry (if it isnt obvious, thats sarcasm). They work hard, their trying their best, and even with all the shit they get put through they smile and act like everything will get better for them. You dont have to like their music, but to call it sickening because their doing something different.. you're part of the problem, not them.
MrKredos no, your right, it happens all the time. But that doesnt give you the right to be that way just because some other people are. It makes you a shitty and toxic person expecially if your sending death threats. (Not you specifically, thought i should mention that). All im saying is, honestly i think they deserve a chance and all the hate they get is disgusting. Id feel the same way about any group of people receiving death threats and not just EXP. But everyone has their own opinions on them and i cant change that. Sorry if i seem rude or anything, i dont mean to come off that way. food I completely understand you!... They never trained for years of their lives to dedicated themselves to this career, they don't have a debt to pay, they don't even sing and dance very well because they have never had training. And it's an experiment.that's just a joke. That's clearly an insult to K-pop and South Korea I understand your angry and I agree heartedly.let's face it.. they think just because they're white they will can get away with this, it's not the first time white people trying to steal culture from others, they I've been doing this for many years to Spanish culture especially BlackCulture and now Asian culture. And as always they do it just for the money and glory.I'm sorry in the name of white people. We always have been Suppressors colonizers in history, we didn't learn anything unfortunately.. I'm sorry!
JACOB 007 the I my thing I disagree with is the whole Asian culture thing considering kpop the music itself has nothing to do traditionally with their culture and roots and is a combination of the other cultures you mention and is even prominent in their music spanish culture in their music such as sf9's sole mio and suju's lo siento black culture from their clothes to their swagger to their dancing and to their rap so the only Asian thing about kpop is that it's in Korean and is in Korea but besides that I have a genuine question do you think if they went through the same process that all other trainees Asian or not went through the grueling years the lessons and practice that they could be something that people could be more accepting or understanding?? Because everyone seems to bring up those points when in actuality they just don't like the fact that they are white if kpop decides to be more open to foreigners then it could be good BUT it should primarily remain Asian there could be a few groups here and there
Choa South God Queen okay thats your opinion but even if he did thats only one member. Also you need a lot more then just a good voice to make good music. Good production is key. Aren’t you wowchanyounot on instagram?
refrigerator salesman they still aren't at the skill level I would consider ready to debut.

Seems more like they're trying to assimilate than appropriate. They are trying to be respectful and have come to love the genre and the country.

I'm from Korea and I'm just like wtf are they, that's it. I don't feel offended or sth lol

Exactly
Well if one's trying to profit off of another culture it's definitely important to get that pronunciation right.
@@shawnmiranda8521 other languages I tied to a culture so it can be seen as disrespectful if one doesn't make the effort to pronounce the words correctly. English doesn't have a culture ties to it, and most people learn English for the sake of actual survival. So, these two things are incomparable

I feel like a whole group being foreign is a bit too much, maybe one or two members that are non-asian might've been more appropriate.

K-Pop: Korean Pop Music
•
They are in Korea, singing in Korean, Under a Korean entertainment group.
The thing is:
K-Pop Entertainment ill join in mate, lets meet up and make a black kpop group
AMEN
K-Pop Entertainment its not just race and that they didn’t train, they aren’t skilled enough rn. If they were much more talented in singing/dancing/rapping then it would be ok. Death threats are too much tho
I think its because they were not up to the standard on talent and they dont fit the image
i find it to be a mixture of at the time they debuted they really weren't that great like in general but most of the hate is coming from overprotective oversea/foreign fans of kpop about how they're not kpop but who are they to say first they aren't a korean in korea and second they're singing in korean last time I checked that's what classified kpop cause as soon as a korean sings a song in full english lets say it's no longer considered kpop it's just pop
Ah, fitting the image. Thank you. I couldn't figure out why it WAS offending me even tho I logically shouldn't give af.

Lol ur pfp matches your comment😂😂
aight buddy id suggest doing research before you go dissing kpop. first, it would be great if you could speak proper english. second, rap and hipop are every important parts of korean culture, and you cannot say that it belongs to 'americans.' there are extremely good rappers all over korea, and if you gave any a try, you would see that.
the_plague *doctor* kpop was inspired by American pop music... that’s why it’s called Korean pop....

T̶e̶a̶s̶p̶o̶o̶n̶ Mouthful of Suga girl that's a lot more than a quick fix
and kinda look younger because some of them look maybe in the late 20 or maybe early 30
Im sorry but ALL Kpop is super Cringy
Bbybangtan i agree.

totally. our idols get death threats too so i know too, what i feel for these men, they don’t deserve it at all
they definitely do not deserve death threats, whoever sent those really need a sit down with some councillors... but we can’t force people to agree with this too, it’s a completely different thing to what people are used to. in my opinion, kpop groups should consist of only asian members, but that’s my opinion, i’m not going to hate on those who agree with the whole idea of change. i remember there was a group with a french girl, they got so much hate which was sad. i just think that if you don’t agree with it, just say that rather than wishing death upon people.
I think koki couldve debuted in a korean group. Because he has an asthetic they look for. Bcoz he is halfie with euro standard. But i appreciate the group's drive .so why the hate, especially from international fans. Its so toxic.kpop is for everyone.

USA needs to chill out
Koreans didn't invent pop, they didn't really create anything in K-Pop.
I feel they could suit a ballad style more , due to them being older than the average Koop group
Exactly what I was thinking.
Their pronunciation is not great either, honestly. When they speak, it's not so bad, but the singing is choppy.

By the way, which country had the origin of "pop music" then who copied it first"?
People are idiots and think you have to be of a certain race to be of that culture of said race. Being of a race doesn't mean you download a bunch of culture data when you're born. It's not the matrix where you turn a certain age and automatically learn ancestral music that dates back to your root or modern culture. You can endow yourself with culture by living in a place where those cultural practices are taught.
Cultural appropriation is just people getting away with racism by saying XYZ can't XYZ.

They are all adopted from other forms of music which spread all over the world. Pop came from rock n roll. If you go back further rock n roll came from jazz and soul. There was definitely pop music before ABBA but it was ABBA that pioneered the more modern pop style that is still used today.
Geez not all Americans are going against this
GD once said he doesn't like the word "kpop"
He just wants his music to be enjoyable to all people, no matter what races they are
Half the members in GOT/ and Blackpink for example are foreigners but they actually auditioned, trained, learned korean and nobody is complaining.
Chaeyoung's peach yeah I know but Rosé had a worse Korean level Jennie and even if she's ethnically korean
aisha thank you I definitely feel the same.
because they're asian
aisha no, they aren't complaining because they're Asian, not because of their skills or training period.
If they're not hurting anyone and this makes them happy, let them be.
I agree
I agree.. They can be who ever they want to be
I don't necessarily see why it's so bad that these guys wanna be a Kpop group. It goes both ways.
true, there's also other white people in kpop. for example, wendy from red velvet, felix from district 9 and more
OkxyClaire exactly. While I admit that it's a very cut throat industry that demands a lot of hard work and effort. These guys aren't hurting anything. And I think they'll be alright as long as they master their craft and take it seriously.
OkxyClaire it's Felix from stray kids, district 9 is one of their songs
dwfhlhe3fnio34 i keep getting them mixed up, my friend told me that their name was district 9 but i said it was stray kids ad we fighted so i just said that their name was district 9 and i get really confused now
vkook trash so what? they're still white ( and korean )
I love how they learn the culture of korean unlike kaachi lmao
it's not the fact that they're not korean, there are foreigners in kpop, it's the fact that their pronunciation isn't good and that they skipped the training process. there are other kpop idols that haven't trained and i don't even trust that. they are lacking too much to be considered a good group. if they trained and got up to standard, i would have no problem with it.
they do seem cute together and genuine, but i can't get behind the fact that they just got a free pass into the industry.
existential dread very good point!
existential dread It’s because they aren’t Asian.
existential dread I agree all the way because look what BTS went through and they think they can just go like that no honey not today they should at least train a little
yananuto maybe to you, but many people in korea don't care that they aren't asian from what i've heard and personally that doesn't bother me. there are non asians in the industry as well they just aren't as popular.
Well Johnny Seo is american and a kpop idol also... It's more about the looks I think rather than "half asian"
Luna Foglia Yes I agree but isn’t he also Asian? I think people could make it being an American kpop idol but it’d definitely be easier to be an Asian kpop idol.
@@streaminikki5560 he was born and raised in america and then moved to south korea, but he has asian ethnicity, i think that u have to kind of have some asian features to make it into kpop. So yeah, for a white american... I don't think it's possible or at least not easy at all

Victoria Nickhun Thank you. This.
Too true.
Susie X "product of a specific industry" that appropriates Black American culture in what is essentially white face with a Korean tongue.
Didn't black people start pop band music anyway. Temptations, Jackson 5 New Edition ect.....
Black swan
@Beauty B maybe check on rock music. Elvis Presley got it from a black dude
Not the fact, I'm korean and many kpop fans aka koreaboos tend to like korean groups despite that if they dont have any talent the race and face matters, they be like aweeee he cant do that so cute oppa~~~~
But foreigners they are so jealous of them so they make reasons to hate to unconditionally like you
Kaefmarie keep in mind there's a lot of kpop idols who are not Korean. The difference is that those idols have trained for years to be in a group. I highly doubt EXP is training 12hs every day. They don't have a proper training whatsoever and it seems in a way everything was easier to them, they started as an "experiment" and now people won't take them seriously. You get what you give.
Ive seen them on 이웃집찰스, one member was actually musical singer and things like that

The amount of hate they get is so disgusting. They honsetly don't deserve the hate, sure, constructive criticism is fine, but people are being straight up cruel. The worst part is that most of their hate comes from non asian fans that think they know everything about """kpop culture"""
louder for the ignorants in the back!
Notorious SWG BTS you know damn well there are idols that barely train and debut and become popular. don't lie, you dislike the fact that they're white

Kenzie they did train??
Princess Olowogboye yes, it makes me mad bc they just get to skip over and be "a kpop star" and there's traines who have to go through so much shit
Carat’sFantasy I understand that, but I feel like they were like "I can't make it in the US so let's just go to Korea."
Maybe if they were professionally trained, spoke Korean WELL , and were talented most people would have no problem
They would. People always find a "reason" to hate on something uncommon.
Of course they would. The hate was totally unproportional to their performance. An unprofessional music group made out of asian looking people, wouldn't have caused such an uproar.
silvervixen007 I mean the way they just popped up , no warning or formal introduction. They did this knowing people wouldn't be so welcoming.
• 28 • exactly, ppl are being so racist and low minded right now.
Their music is actually good people should give them a chance😍
I was very ready to hate this group but after watching the entire video I changed my mind. Hearing that Korean citizens don’t have a problem with it, made me feel weird for my initial anger towards this. I did have to step back and remember, I myself am not Korean, and yet I felt the initial anger and need to protect k pop which I have no right to protect or ownership of to do so. Such an interesting topic. As an American I still feel a little weird about it but I think for the wrong reasons. As an asian (though not Korean) I don’t really have a problem with this at all.
whats funny is when people say kpop is only koreans people but theres alot of groups wit non koreans
But with many koreans members in it ^^;;;
The foreigners learn the culture and improve the language through them.
If a group if made only of asians and doesn't have many koreans it is Z-Pop, it exists xD
But the results never end good example Lisa???
Kpop has the letter k which stands for Korea and pop which is just pop. And those groups have at least a few Koreans. It’s explicit it is Korean pop not international or other country pop. Really don’t like these ideas of just a group of foreigners not Korean.😡but again that just my opinion.

I think that’s the thing people are seeing but not able to recognise and explain.

kpop isnt even korean pop kpop takes so many western elements
bunny miller yeah I know but it’s not the same thing. kpop is a more refined version of pop (that’s neither a good or bad thing to just how it is and give it the ‘kpop sound’) so yes I agree it’s got lots of western elements it’s still got a different ‘sound’ compared to just pop :)

But that's not only why, they don't speak korean and they didn't really train that well.
Their song was badly mixed and produced too.
Also they kinda act koreabish? idk tho
Also, some parts of their choreography has been stolen from everglow and
Blackpink, editing was stolen from TXT.

Why do they look like they’re 40 😂
Sabrina Kitoko what's wrong with looking 40?
White people age physically at a faster rate than other groups of people
They don't really "age" faster, their skin is more sensitive and prone to damage so it just gets damaged more as they age.
Murder rate****
Sh4m3l3ss Sk4nkh0 You're only proving us right about police brutality lmao
AGREEE
Preach
So maybe these guys could just work harder to get that 10/10 skill so people would stop focusing on the looking-like-gay side and start appreciate their performance~ still i'm sorry if this is considered as an insult to the lgbtq community though
agree, their attitude, singing and dancing all seem so half hearted.
Crafter but we have groups like bts who try to act like babies and exo. the point of being cute and acting like a baby is the point because it will attract teenage girls
@@AnnaHeey that's the point
They have to actually learn the language and the dialect. Just memorizing lyrics won't take them anywhere.
Did you skip the bit where they take classes and casually chat with fans in Korean?
@@RedHair651 did you skip the part where others said that their pronunciation was not on point.
If they all said they were half-Asian you'd be saying they're all attractive
dannyzee4 no actually I wouldn’t. Never implied that all Asian people are attractive so idk where you came up with that one
Real Kpop Stans:As long as they sing in Korean we dgaf.
YT comments:Korean or not, they just too old.
@@seisogaijin3749 no one said, that they shouldn't do it. They just shouldn't wonder why they aren't successfull.
Excuse you do they look old to you? You are the one who look old like asia people look so old
The reason why international kpop fans are so pressed about exp edition wanting to break through in Korea is because of the lack of Asian representation we have in Western culture. With kpop becoming bigger, there are finally idols who Asian kids can recognize themselves in whereas in Korea western media doesnt dominate mediaculture. They see people on tv with the same culture who actually look like them so seeing a white kpop group isnt threatening to their representation in their country
suho got me jungshook AGREED
One group of white guys vs thousands of Koreans in kpop? Where are they stealing Asian representation?
TheGreenerItGets you seem to totally miss my point. Kpop is becoming bigger in the Western part of the world but that doesnt mean that its dominating the media already. Western media culture still mainly represents caucasians. For kpop to finally gain atrention here Asians have another way to be represented. Exp edition wanting to become kpop stars is throwing this whole idea away. If kpop starts to become 'white' the representation that is part op kpop starts to disappear
suho got me jungshook you know that like basically half of the relevant pop stars in the west are mixed race or black?
randomsheep11 but are they asian? Yeah poc are becoming more represented, especially in the US, but not all poc's. Hiphop, soul, jazz etc has been around for a long time and that had black representation written all over it. Now the latinos are bringing their latin songs into the Western media. Asians are significantly less represented that's a fact. If we were to see Asians in movies for example they most likely are portrayed as an Asian stereotype and almost never are they the main character
Title: The most controversial Kpop group in world
NCT HOLLYWOOD: Hold up....
The half Japanese guy is the only one that appealing in kpop standards
katlala true
i mean he's the only one who looks kinda young... i don't think she has a fetish
The asian guy and the blonde guy are the only two that look maybe young enough. The other two guys look like they’re late 30s or something. Its just too jarring compared to traditional kpop groups looks.
I have yet to see a half-Japanese, half-European person that wasn't good-looking. Those genes seem to play well together.
True
100% The half Japanese guy should just become a model in Korea, I'm surprised another entertainment agency didn't try to scoop him up.
Jackie Jinse that should be his back up plan in case things start to go south...they all need escape plans tbh cuz I don’t think this gonna pan out in the long term if they were expecting to be global or something
he's hot
Jackie Jinse right?! He’s ridiculous attractive
NOBODY HATES EXP. WE HATE THEIR MUSIC. IT'S LIKE SARAH PALIN'S DAUGHTER'S DANCING. WE JUST HATED HER DANCING.
They are fluent in korean however they just learned a lot from paper and books so their pronunciation isn't that good!
No no they still get more hate for them and there music....it's plaimy and simple...don't back peddle now when documentary's are showing what bad side of K-pop y'all resprsent.. absolutely disgusting thous artist are established and still don't get as much hate as you do
How is kpop only for koreans while kpop comes from "black/American" music
because theyre racist. it's like saying country is for whites, rap is for blacks and mariachi bands are always mexican.

@@hxnxp04 Please answer my questions
1.why should just east and south east Asians be in Kpop what's with south, central or west asians (Indians, Arabians, Kazakhs or people from any other asian country) why wouldn't they be okay in Kpop for you, they all are asians even though they don't look `asian`.
@@dario57787 I aint reading all that bye
I don’t support them not because of their race but because of how they got in the industry. A lot of young asians (not only korean) dreams to become idols. Asian people aren’t being really represent in the west so kpop is a way to pursue their dream of becoming singer. Becoming a trainee is hard and it just get harder after their debut (and that’s only if they debut). They are having a hard time getting fame like almost every groups because K-POP is a hard industry. They believed that they could debut and automatically get the same fame as others who trained for years before debuting.
exactly, and since white supremacy exists deadass everyone accepts white people and kiss their asses
bean Woof, way to generalize all white people
This is such bullshit, just admit it, you don't like the fact that they're white. There are plenty of newer idols who barely trained and had their fame handed to them but it's okay to you because they're either Korean or some other type of Asian. A lot of newer idols and really fucking untalented but no one bats an eye simply because they're Asian or Korean.
bean that literally has nothing to do with this???? you're really reaching
Antigone I agree with you. Well said.
kcuf uoy I know?? What you just said has nothing to do with what I said...
This is the longest SNL skit I've ever seen. 😂
Jon Ratchford this is the best comment ever 💀
fuck you they are trying to achieve their dreams how would you feel if you were doing something that you love and someone said"this is the longest snl skit😂😂" i bet you would be pissed they are actually pretty good and i stan them if your just here to spread hate then you can leave ok?
everythinginanormallife with caprice relax it’s a joke.
sudo princess sorry i got out of hand i just really like exp
everythinginanormallife with caprice this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone say they like exp no hate but what exactly do you like about them?
K = Korean
Pop = Music
K Pop = Korean Music
As long at they are Singing pop music in Korean it is K Pop.
Music has no color. Get over it.
HAMED ARIF why do you live in Korea
What you dont get is that theres plently of other industries where you can find white artists, they didnt need to go to korea for that
Trufax Well if they like Korean culture, why can't they go?
Trufax and there's also a lot of industries where you can find non-white artists but I mean I guess
i don’t mean to come across rude but even if white k-pop groups were a thing, this group still wouldn’t be popular because they don’t have the visuals or charm. their skills are mediocre. their singing is pretty good but singing is like what...30% of what makes up a k-pop group. visuals are important!!! charm!!! humour!!! being able to do the most tiring dance choreo 5 times a day while singing & still looking good!!!
sorry but i just don’t think they have the “it” factor, they seem like sweet, well-intended guys tho.
As asian, tbh its not because theyre white, its because theyre song not good and dance need work !
honestly just let market decide whether they can make in kpop, people can decide if they want to buy they re albums !
[half of this comment was copy & pasted from my reply to another comment]
finally someone who thinks alike. I dont really mind if they wanna sing in korean but i dont think i can include them under the kpop
yesss this is what i thought too
"kpop is a platform for east asians to be represented in the music industry" where is this same energy when kpop groups are being interviewed, praised, and allowed to perform in America? Because then you all just say "Kpop spreading to the USA is what the world needed" or some dumb shit along those lines, what's the difference between EXP performing in Korea versus other Kpop groups performing in America and talking chopped English or no English?
(Mark is Canadian but anyway...)
jess took the words exactly from my head, thank you. this is so true.
ChocolatBownie I think thats a fair point.
I hope they don’t get into the big 3 companies, so they can disband in a few years and go back to where they came from. There are small kpop groups who are actually Korean/asian who have better talent than them and they can’t even make their group popular. Only reason why these men would be known is for their race
Precisely
pretty much. I also assume cause they couldn't hack it in western music industry either.
Hold on.... a grown man who’s TH-cam name is Kpop 4life called something cringey.
It is called cringe paradox. Where something cringey called other things cringey as well.
freki freka metacringe
You dont have to like their music, but to call it sickening because their doing something different.. you're part of the problem, not them.
yeah, so theyre minorities is what you're saying. this isnt new, happens in all aspects of life.
Your entitled to your own opinions and thats something ill try and respect.

I completely understand you!...
