That would be difficult but I can try. I avoid it as to not speak over others or say anything incorrect as it’s not my culture. I include Native American appropriation in my videos because I grew up being told how to not offend nor appropriate them which is why I feel confident boosting Native American Kpop fans’ complaints. For others, it would be hard for me to know what for sure isn’t right or wrong. Maybe I’ll try and collab with people from other cultures to make that possible. We’ll see 💗
Lucas once made a joke about Baekhyun being fat, and the comment section was filled with people pointing out its insensitivity. But when Baekhyun and other idols constantly mock Lucas and Kai for their darker skin, the comment section just completely ignores it EVERY SINGLE TIME. Like really? Y’all don’t find the colourist jokes as offensive as fat-shaming jokes??? What kind of stupid double standard is this???
Thank you for this! I'm not happy about kai wearing black hairstyles before but the amount of bullying he has gotten from other idols and especially his members for being "dark"(which ironic because members like baekhyun aren't even "light" either when they're not being whitewashed) is too much. Like it's never ok to bully someone and even though fat shaming obviously isn't cool either, I give Lucas props for clapping back. Baekhyun is one of the best vocalist in kpop but he has such a bully mentality and I don't see why fans keep defending that
Idol: *says the n word* Fans: "They weren't thinking of you when they said that and they don't know any better, get over yourselves" *news arise of two idols potentially dating* Fans: "WHAT THE HELL?! How could they do this???? I trusted them!!" Just thinking about that and putting the two in the same sentence is absolutely astounding.
I also hate the fact that people were bullying Fatou from black swan only because shes black. but then these kpop idols r using our black culture?? Make it make senseee
also, most of the apologies aren't sincere.... or let's say, not even an apology. like, saying, "im sorry i offended u" is not acknowledging what was done wrong and blaming those who rightly accused them for their reaction(s). and abt the apology from mamamoo's company, they said that the public should educating them when they should be educating THEMSELVES.
As an Indian I know what it's like living in a culture OBSESSED with fairness. It is so bad to the point that it is normal and acceptable to publicly harrass and bully people for the tone of their skin. It is exactly like in Korea, but this needs to change! just because "it's always been like this" doesn't mean it should continue to be. I love Korean culture and food and would love to visit there someday, but honestly I don't know how much I can enjoy the trip whilst being constantly aware of how ugly I am to them.
Honey I am an Indian too. And trust me you're not ugly at all. Korea is filled with shallow minded people. Don't let anybody tell you that you're not beautiful. Because beauty is subjective. It's a country filled with plastic surgeries wtf they know about natural beauty.
As an Asian who grew up in an Asian country, I'm so used to people wanting fair skin and forcing other people to whiten their skin that I didn't realize how problematic and harmful that is until someone pointed it out
As a Asian this puts a very bad look on us, and i will NOT be defending these discussing actions these idols have done. I know i’m not one of them but as a asian i would like to apologize on their behave, this is not okay. if charli damelio taped her eyes back and starting talking in a chinese accent her career would be ended, but even though she’s only 16 she’s has common sense that, that is called ✨racism✨these grown ass people know that’s racist. these are no mistakes if they keep happening, especially if they are from canada, american etc. some of them do not deserve the platform they were given and it shows. i will always stick up for what’s right and this is wrong #asiansforblacklivesmatter
I’m Asian and I really agree. It’s not ok. Don’t the idols and companies see that their actions are harmful? It’s not going to change unless they care ugh. Also don’t the companies say they want their groups to be internationally famous and they do that stuff?!
When you said “Kpop is built off of BLACK CULTURE” I remembered when CL said “Artists, directors, writers, dancers, designers, producers, stylists in the K-pop industry are all inspired by black culture whether they acknowledge it or not.” It’s the fact that no big companies or any other idols would say the same thing she said because it’s true
Same, I'm from Tue Caribbean so we don't say the n word here unless we are like singing to music or something like that (I'm black). But even them know ( *most* non black caribbean ppl)that if you aren't black then don't say it.
it's so natural for asians, even east asians, to be dark or tan easily... i'm so disappointed that the cultural standards of asian culture no matter its origin are colorist and that even celebrities like kpop idols are perpetuating negative notions with dark skin. i used to be so tan from swimming all the time, but when i got older and started stanning kpop, i unconsciously began to judge myself and others. my friends always say they're "so black" when they get the slightest bit tan and it's very concerning.
As a darkskin Asian I remember my first colourist incident when I was in KG-1(Kindergarten 1) I was put between these two girls and they were pushing me left and right and their whole reason was "ewww ugly the skintone will get on me so dirty" was their excuse for bulling me I was so young and naive I didn't even know I was hurting inside and later during a short break they locked me in a toilet and said "its better now we are saved" I didn't even cry I thought that was what society was like, and the teacher came open the door for me later after she noticed I was not present in the classroom and honestly I would preferred to stay there all day and when I got home I asked my mom if my skin colour could've rubbed off on others and that I think they should get me a seat at the end of the classroom cause I thought my skin colour was like a disease that I was born with, but my mom told the teacher about the situation and they let me sit near this sweet girl and I got through KG1 and 2 with her until we moved to another place
It’s so hard being a black kpop fan, they literally don’t listen to us they continue to make these “mistakes”, the N- word part got me so upset like it just kept going.
This is why it’s so important for artists like Fatou from BLACKSWAN to shine through in the Kpop industry. Fatou is black, and will definitely call out these racist moments from our idols.
sadly blackswan is a very small group and international got hype, but other groups fans will tell her to stfu cause she's not famous and they will pull the "they aren't famous as ...." card. They already attacked her for wearing wigs....like sis can't catch a break. She should cover a song from a black artist and have the hair, the clothes and be like "I can do all that cause I'm a black woman". But then they'll hate on her existence 😑 bunch of lil bitches
Sadly that would be a career killer for Fatou, she's from a small company and a small girl group or even they would associate her with the stereotype of an "angry black woman" that's why us as fans we must call out our faves when they do something like this.
Notice how every apology is saying “I’m sorry that people got offended” basically. They aren’t sorry they did it, they’re just sorry they got called out. They’re basically admitting that if people hadn’t gotten upset they wouldn’t have cared.
Ngl I might get hate for this but that’s what I feel about Rap Mons insensitive comments. If no one would’ve batted an eye at him saying those things he said he would’ve carried on the way he was and that is very alarming to me bc who knows what is said in his moments of privacy when the cameras aren’t rolling. I love BTS but as a longtime POC ARMY I can’t help but have that at the back of my mind
this video + the bts one have made me realize how normalized racism is in korea.. i feel so bad for stanning some of these groups, but i will make sure to take them accountable for their mistakes. thank you so much for making these videos!!
@@syzygy888 hi I know this is months late but to hold them accountable you can: - not stream their music (on their yt channel, Spotify, any music source that gives them profit) - don't buy albums - no voting on award shows etc - basically don't do anything that gives them money 💵
I’m Asian and our community really needs to have the discussion of how we treat black, Indian and Native American people. We make fun of, discriminate, and stereotype them constantly but then we appropriate the “cool” parts of their culture. We only ever care about racism when we are the victims. Frankly, I hate seeing Asians be like “white people, am I right?” As if BIPoC don’t commonly face racism from Asians. It’s ignorant and deflective.
It's funny how for example, when idols wear or say something pro feminism and lgbtq+ kpop fans are like "look how woke my idols are" but when they wear or say something offensive it's not on them and it's "the company and stylish fault"...
I really appreciate the way you have researched these videos so thoroughly, including the background of the false claims. Your examples are so well chosen. I know it's time-consuming to find just the right clips to prove a point.
The fact that they call appropriation “appreciation” , no sweetie, appreciation is adding BLACK people into mvs and respecting them. not making fun of them.
I’m super upset about these whole thing. You notice how they never have any originality in anything their fashion and music all copied from black people while still disrespecting black people.
I’m a Korean and this is just a reflection of how racism and colorism is so deeply rooted in Korean society. The younger generation is definitely more progressive but it’s like Korea lives in their own tiny little bubble and mindset and they’re ignorant to these situations. So disappointed that Kpop, the main thing that’s representing Korea to the world rn, is like this, but maybe the backlash might put them in the right mindset :/
It's just like my country (Philippines). Yes, its true that the younger generation is definitely more progressive, but a lot are still ignorant and its honestly embarrassing and upsetting.
Girl! In my country Nepal, racism against black people and Korean (especially towards BTS) is literally so fvcking worst (and don't even start with the homophobia). If you come to my country, you would see at least 3 4 persons every 5 kilometers wearing box braids to look swaggy and cool. They say racial slurs to act badass. They disrespect black people by calling with names which are too offensive and disrespectful (I don't want to utter those names because they are disgusting). Kpop idols are called gays. I don't even know what to say. When we some Nepalese people who are educated enough try to confront them, they would be sending us death threats SMH.
No Korea knows exacy what they are doing.if they call TMZ racist for making fun of they ass because it was a white woman they call it racist. They learn from white Americans that they can steal and take fe blackpeople because they think they race is higher than blacks. That's why they cherish white skin. They are doing this for money . They are racist and know exactly what they are doing. Just like they join white supremacists to get rid of affirmative actions That is crazy . They are jealous of black people but at the same time hate black people.
Black people are dehumanised. We are seen as characters, trends, and cool but not for who we are as humans. Countries with zero black people tend to see us as just stereotypes, that’s why I’m glad for multicultural countries in the uk and us, because people see us as humans, but racism is still a issue even though there’s multi-culture.
Imagine how tired we black K-pop stans are, the colorism and blatant rac*sm makes me sick and at this point it's so hard to separate the art from the artists because it's happening too often, these are grown men and women and we can't keep making excuses for their behaviors
People have sent death threats and lots of hate to the creator of this video (she said it in a live) but she still has it up even though she’s gotten a lot of shit for it. Sadly, some people will just chose to not educate themselves and will chose to stay having a ignorant mindset.
kpop idol: * is racist and does cultural appropriation* also them: “you guys I’m so sorry. I never thought that it would be so offensive, really. I just did it to look cool! I’m very uneducated on this topic and I sincerely apologize for that.” them the next month: *mocks an accent and does more racist things*
They're also all the SAME apology. It sounds sincere, then it immediately gets taken down or you know they're just gonna do whatever they did again, because no one is holding them accountable for it.
They try to make it seem like they are innocent and don't know any better or they go "well they don't really know about black people" but they know about the n word??? We have all been on this earth for too long for them to still be acting oblivious.
Unfortunately, I just assume that all kpop idols are racist and homophobic. Only a few are probably "safe" to stan (like Holland 100% not homophobic lmao). the amount of idols that have done black face and have gotten zero backlash is disgusting.
Everything couldn't be just a fashion or fashion prop .one k-pop Idol does seductive dance on floor on Gayatri mantra which is a holy sacred song .it was like you are twerking on floor in church when priest is trying to say prayer. 🤪 Jeez
Dude i remember commenting on that jennie trainee video when it first came out years ago and i asked why they were letting her get away with that. People replied that I was bullying a minor and that they weren't surprised she had haters already because she's so talented and pretty lmao. These people will literally wear blindfolds over their eyes instead of holding their faves accountable for anything
I'm not even black but I feel offended..this is disgusting and serious they're seriously mocking and making fun of other people's culture and skin even with their follow members wtf!! Thank you for this video wish I saw it before
Like it's so racist. You can cosplay a black character without painting your face. I see so many black ppl cosplaying white/asian character and none of then painted their faces or change their eyes shape... Smh
Kpop fans will only stop using the excuse “oh they didn’t know” whenever they find out that it Is infantilizing Asians which has negative history beneath it.
Just imagine how black people are tired. Just imagine how black people are getting hated just because of the color of their skin. They've done so much for us yet get treated like animals. Why can't we realize that it doesn't atter what race you are or what the color of your skin is, we're all humans. We all deserve to be treated equally. Yet, some people don't think that way and it's getting frustrating
the way ten confronted that issue so nonchalantly ughhh yesss keep it up, we need more members like that, that arent afraid to bring it up. thats honestly the only way you can get it thru idols heads that its wrong sadly, when its directly from a fellow member.
I think its weird how someone would need to be taught something is offensive if they'd find it offensive if it was in reverse. Its simply lack of empathy. They probably dont see black people as being as much a human as them and thats why they dont realize why itd be hurtful till pointed out.
Honestly as a Korean it makes me so upset to see these issues constantly happening. The Asian community fully understands what its like to be made fun of because of our race and heritage, so I don’t get why that translates to bitterness, resentment, and ignorance towards other poc communities. Especially towards black people. It really does make me feel so embarrassed and frustrated
It's not yr fault and don't feel frustrated or embarrassed, cause you know yr truth,it's the asian people who are racist that must feel frustrated and embarrassed .people have to keep in mind that not all asians are racist .It may look like that but it's not the case.
It translates to treating other poc like shit because Asians know they can be racist and get away with it. There are zero consequences in any Asian country to be racist towards black people. The Asian continent just does not care about black people because they don't want to. But for some reason when they come to America, black people have to care about Anti Asian hate. Make it make sense.
finally someone speaking on this matter. i love kpop but honestly i get so annoyed when i hear about another case of cultural appropriation in the industry. it’s just so tiring at this point. edit: now that i’ve finished te viideo; thank you so much for this. i’m half african and it’s so disheartening to see how cultural appropriation is ignored and pushed down in the industry. not only by companies and idols but also the fans. my mother doesn’t understand why cultural appropriation is wrong and i get so upset over it. when are people finally going to learn that appreciating and appropriating a culture are not the same thing? just thank you from the bottom of my heart for constantly speaking out on this matter.
I didn’t know Jihyo dressed up as a Indigenous person- please I almost started crying... Indigenous people are heavily ignored, from our problems with MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman) and our thoughts on “costumes” that involve religious regalia. It hurts to see people I look up towards, look down on sacred clothing ; Like it’s just some costume. Did she ever apologize for wearing her “costume”?
That part was truly disheartening bcz my husband's side of the family has strong Native American heritage. How can they be so careless?? And the crowd cheering her on!!! Thank you for sharing this. I'm seriously thinking of not listening to KPop anymore. I'm not saying everyone else should, just my own thoughts.
I have a feeling that Kai and Lucas are close for a lot of reasons but also for this exact reason. Kai knows how it feels to be treated that way bc of his skincolor (which isn’t even that dark) so he kinda tries to protect them. Also Ten calling Mark out is very good.
No because (and I ain’t even black) those hair styles are made for African hair types (beautiful might I add). It’s almost like when a culture has a practice that’s been developed and used for decades… there’s a reason… lmao 🤣
I'm sorry you had to sit through editing this video it really should not be your responsibility to educate people on basic respect. Thank you for sharing and making this video!
THANK YOU for putting big girl groups such as twice and blackpink. i stan most of the groups mentioned in the vid, but people are always quick to bring up *only* mamamoo for CA and racism, when most of people’s faves have done the same thing if not more
What the hell Kai's skin isn't even dark.... The idols whose skin is considered too tan or too dark still look white compared to actual black people, makes you wonder how actual dark skin may be viewed. It's actually frightening.
i need people to realize that saying "oh they didn't know" plays right into the infantilization of asian individuals which has racist undertones as well...they are not ignorant. they are grown people, they understand their actions. stop babying these idols.
I'm from Pakistan and I'm a Muslim, thank you for creating this video❤️ some parts of this video really made me tearful. We as humans should learn and be respectful towards others being insensitive about other cultures, races and religions is a really bad thing. Loved this video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The Tibetan women pictured with the microbraids are usually Buddhists or Bon practitioners and are meant to have 108 braids (a special number within at least those sects of Buddhism and Bon). Having your hair "changed" from unbraided to braided usually happens around puberty and there's a whole very specific ceremony and party for it (like a Bat Mitzvah with more work!). Snatching that up without understanding the significance would be really shitty so...yeah no. Not chill even if they were mimicking another Asian style
It’s not the fact that they don’t know, it’s more of they don’t care. I’m blasian and my Asian mom constantly be racist but says she “respect black culture” while calling me nigga. I told her many times but she says she doesn’t care. I lived in Japan and I’ve told people when they’ve been doing some dumb shit but they say “okay?” Or “I love black culture, that’s why I do it”. If you like black culture, listen to the people who made it in the first place 🤷🏽♀️
@@AdeolaAsh yea, she even told ME, A BLACK PERSON, that I should stop saying nigga around her bc it makes her uncomfortable...... I have never been so confused in my life.
When kpop fans like Korean culture and do what Koreans do they get called “koreaboo” but why don’t you call your idols “blackboo” 🙄 it’s so annoying bc some people say I’m a koreaboo for liking kpop and wanting to learn Korean when these idols say the N word and I’m black and I never say it. We shouldn’t let them get away with this. They’re going to continue to be racist if we don’t make a big deal out of it.
not to take away from the video but please don’t consider tibet as a part of china, tibetans have been fighting and dying for tibet’s freedom. china has been covering up what has happened with tibet, but being a tibetan that has direct family members who lived through the invasion, part of the aftermath, and escaping china, it’s really offensive to tibetans to consider them as apart of china. chinese people have been appropriating tibetan culture through traditional wear, food, tibetan braiding, and etc. so please, if you’re going to talk about cultural appropriation and mentioning tibet, don’t consider tibet apart of china
It's in the map. Don't deny it. 😅 Have you ever go to Lahsa and asking those local people about it?They are tibetans and at the same time, Chinese. Do not use your opinion to speak up on behalf of Tibetans. This is distorting and misleading.
I'm Indian and my state houses several Tibetan people and their stories and history make me cry. The barbaric and cowardly way Chinese govt invaded and killed Tibetans is absolutely disgusting. Not to mention they're profiting off from Tibetan monasteries and mountains and culture by promoting them as their own tourist spots?? Like wtf??
another question is why is it so hard to cancel kpop groups lol? like if this was a white space with white musicians and they did he same type of thing, wear locs, appropriate black culture, make fun of dark skin and say the n word, etc. they would be CANCELLED overnight. why the double standard?
exactly I don't get whyyy!!?? like madison beer and haily baldwin are still getting hate till that day for saying slurs and they actually apologized multiple times but then look at kpop idols that always get away with shit like that..i literally feel like kpop fans are brainwashed
The only way you could "cancel" them is to get the black fans, stans & media to stop supporting them. Live life as if they do not exist, it'll def hurt their pockets (to a certain extent) & hopefully that'll get them to wake up.
The “they didn’t know” excuse is BS. I was in Seoul from 2008-2010. Koreans were being called out for both blackface and Native costumes in videos and commercials back then.
Imagine if more Black American artists and celebrities called out the Kpop industry out for their cultural appropriation, racism, and colorism. It wouldn’t happen and wouldn’t make a huge difference but more awareness might be brought to everyone’s attention, including the kpop companies and idols. Idols look up to black American artists so imagine if those artists told them that they were not honoring hip hop culture by making a mockery out of the people who created the culture they love so much. I really wonder if that would change things.
A lot of these idol members don’t realize by making fun and degrading another members’ dark skin, they are also making fun of fans that have dark skin like them or even darker. It’s disheartening.
They know exactly what they're doing they worship European white people like their gods . But I love the fact when you call them out on their racism they try to play victim
I hate when kpop stans weaponize ca, like an idol does something insensitive and their fans are like “well but (insert idol) did something worse” I hate when fans will portray their faves as woke kings or queens, like when an idol does something insensitive and fans of other groups are like “yikes thank God I stan (insert kpop group)”. I hate when kpop stans act like just bc an idol apologized (most of the time its half assed) we suddenly have to act like it didn’t happen or we have to take that apology. I hate that even in ca there’s double standards from the way they react when its a man or when its a woman. I hate when they say “they’re koreans”. Of course, there’s so much a korean can know about other cultures but an idol will say something blatantly racist yet their fans will say its because they’re korean, like Korea is an advanced country they know whats racist or not. They know what they’re doing when they’re stereotyping other POCS and making fun of their food or their accent. I hate when an idol does something and its blamed on the company. When it comes to props and stages its not their fault but no Emily, the company didn’t force your idol to say something insensitive or wear dreadlocks. I hate when kpoppies will make their whole personalities about hating an idol who did ca like they don’t care about the ca they just want to find a way to hate pn that idol. Most of the time they’re not even poc. I hate when POC fans will literally invent anything just to excuse idols from ca, like its the first example that comes to my mind so when BTS still does twists after all their fans claimed they changed and whatsoever and try to say they’re gel twists, like yeah its still a black hairstyle so where do we go from there? I hate when kpoppies act like their idols are babies (mostly male idols) Kpoppies want their faves to change but will throw themselves to hell ans back to defend their favorite Korean stars, screaming “clear the searches” “what if he sees this 🥺” bitch i hope he does! The way they treat them like they’re some kind of Goddesses that can’t do anything wrong is honestly so disturbing. And I know that even in this video, kpoppies will blatlantly ignore their faves wrongdoings and find a way to come at a group they don’t like. I genuinely think the fact that companies/kpop idols still get away with ca and racism is the way the fan reacts. Its always “lets email the company 🥺 lets educate them 🥺” never “they did something wrong that they need to get call out on, no matter if its in a harsh way”
gd is so problematic and racist towards black ppl, yet the artists he looks up to are beyoncé, jay z, rihanna, wu-tang clan etc.. like it makes no sense ??
Oh it makes perfect sense when you understand that this "looking UP to black artists", translates to... "looking TO black artists" for more ideas of how TO GET PAID.
Whole ass kpop industry is inspired by Black music and culture They gain profit by using that's not theirs, but also don't put efforts to respect black people. Irony! I am not even a black person, but still! And the fact that kpop stans let GD's racism slide out because he is a king of kpop is just so-
This is literally the Cycle of Abuse. Apologizing, then doing it again, victims complain and point out the abuse and how it keeps happening and why its wrong, after a little while once the abuser feels the issue passed, the abuser offends again. I am sick of the low level of emotional intelligence accepted, gaslighting and outright lies. The answer to abuse is to walk away. Leave the person, unfriend, block, delete. Stop supporting them. Otherwise, 'taking them back' only gives them silent permission to do it again. Same as any other toxic relationship.
Same.. I saw them wearing braids and on my favorite show one guy had an Afro (they also dismissed a girl clearly struggling with an eating disorder the show is very problematic)
As an EXO-L I can't say that I've never seen or heard of this, I've been aware and I've just ignored it. I can't remember where I read it but someone once said, "I love kpop, but I love being black more." and I just have to realize what matters more to me. Exo's music has gotten me through some tough times and watching videos of them could always put a smile on my face, I've respected them so much and for so long. Yet I haven't asked myself do they respect me as a young African American girl? Thank you so much for this, and by the way, I had a great laugh at the apologies, and my favorite clip was "I wanna experience pain like black people so I could make better music." I'm not saying that's a laughing matter, It's just the only way to express my emotions at the moment. No more excuses, they're adults, and like someone else just commented, "They shouldn't have to be taught what's offensive, because if these things happened to them, they'd understand." -someone wise in this comment section. I'm so happy that I only liked one K-pop group cause some of these groups that were mentioned would've broke my heart. I'm not just going to leave the K-pop scene though, I'll be there under every offensive video, picture, tweet, snap, etc. making it known that enough is enough. Anyways thank you, and please continue on your fight for what's right, we (anyone with a properly functioning brain) are right behind you!
K-pop idols get away with this because the infantilization their foreign fans do. I'm tired of Asian people getting treated like babies and getting fetishized. K-pop idols aren't dumb, most of them are grown adults- I'm pretty sure they know what racism is.
I agree especially these days when the media is pointing out racsim. Unlike the older days when the Asian media channel wouldn't show such things. I am an Asian even tho we don't see anything about the other cultures on TV but on social media we definitely see and get to learn bout other cultures. And definitely K-idols do use social media. So does the Industry I gotta say they get to educate themselves
I feel betrayed and I honestly feel like crying. As a young black girl i did not know that people would go to this extent in this day in age. I don’t even know if I should listen to all of my “favorite” idols anymore.
I feel the exact same way TT. I honestly cannot listen to kpop without thinking i should even be listening to it due to all the cultural appropriation and racism in korea.
Fuck em! They don't care about you as a human, why should you even support these assholes and give them you're money. Real artists supports and cares for their fans. No matter what race. If this is how they wanna treat Black people, then I say fuck them. Become your own idol.
Its actually because in a lot of east asian countries especially korea has this beauty standard built around having a pale complexion so for a long time being pale is the beauty standard. Can't really blame the idols for wanting to be pale- though I dislike how some of them would constantly bash other idols for having naturally tanner skin.
I love NCT so much but they stay embarrassing me. Like at this point Ten is the only one I have faith in to not take part in these shanagins and just overall racism. I know they dont have bad intent but theres really no excuse at this point. I never knew how complicated being a Black K-Pop stan was until this year. And to all the Idols in K-Pop who where so loud about their "love" for our culture so much its so intresting that you stayed dead silent while we were being killed on the street. You love our culture, music, and hair but not us
Is it just me or have you noticed that in NCT, NCT127 to be specific, in their fan love videos they make sure to include black people they even included a message from a black woman in a video they did with Stacy Nam. Instead of addressing the elephant in the room and apologizing they are now seemingly pandering to us. They are even mentioning black women when asked who they liked to collab with (Jaehyun mentioning Zendaya and Jungwoo mentioning Tinashe) this was not the case in the past. I mean Doyoung would literally mention Ariana Grande or they would mention people like Justin Timberlake (Taeyong's inspo), Justin Bieber (Mark's inspo) or other white celebs, and occasionally a few black male rappers but never black women. After receiving backlash from their fans for their anti black actions they are now mentioning/showing love to black women...I find it extremely suspicious and what's disappointing is that the black gworls are eating that sh*t up especially the Jaehyun and Zendaya moment.
Okay what...Henry grew up in Canada, how can he not know about cultural appropriation please girl 🥱 I always supported his work but I’m rethinking that now 😞

Can u do a video on cultural appropriation for other cultures in kpop?

What kind of stupid double standard is this???
finally someone pointed it out

@@jennierubyjane4133 do u use Wattpad??
Thank you for this! I'm not happy about kai wearing black hairstyles before but the amount of bullying he has gotten from other idols and especially his members for being "dark"(which ironic because members like baekhyun aren't even "light" either when they're not being whitewashed) is too much. Like it's never ok to bully someone and even though fat shaming obviously isn't cool either, I give Lucas props for clapping back. Baekhyun is one of the best vocalist in kpop but he has such a bully mentality and I don't see why fans keep defending that

Idol: *says the n word*
Fans: "They weren't thinking of you when they said that and they don't know any better, get over yourselves"
*news arise of two idols potentially dating*

What annoys me the most is that idols don't apologize unless asian or korean people call them out.
fr
also, most of the apologies aren't sincere.... or let's say, not even an apology. like, saying, "im sorry i offended u" is not acknowledging what was done wrong and blaming those who rightly accused them for their reaction(s). and abt the apology from mamamoo's company, they said that the public should educating them when they should be educating THEMSELVES.
@@Jen-cv1ul true
Frrrr ! Actually that’s a commonly used strategy to gain popularity... sickening .
Ikr it's sad sometimes
As an Asian who grew up in an Asian country, I'm so used to people wanting fair skin and forcing other people to whiten their skin that I didn't realize how problematic and harmful that is until someone pointed it out
I hate it when idols diss other members because of their dark skin like it's not ugly.
The fact that ten is the one correcting them instead of the american/ Canadian members when they should know way better then him smfh
the fact that it’s not ten’s first language but it is mark’s...
When you said “Kpop is built off of BLACK CULTURE” I remembered when CL said
“Artists, directors, writers, dancers, designers, producers, stylists in the K-pop industry are all inspired by black culture whether they acknowledge it or not.”
It’s the fact that no big companies or any other idols would say the same thing she said because it’s true
Guys. Stop acting as if they don't know what the n word is. There is literally a korean version of it. So they definitely know what it is.

I feel so bad for Kai, Heachan and for all the dark skinned asians.
P.s.: Ten is necessary
it's so natural for asians, even east asians, to be dark or tan easily... i'm so disappointed that the cultural standards of asian culture no matter its origin are colorist and that even celebrities like kpop idols are perpetuating negative notions with dark skin. i used to be so tan from swimming all the time, but when i got older and started stanning kpop, i unconsciously began to judge myself and others. my friends always say they're "so black" when they get the slightest bit tan and it's very concerning.
Shotaro melanin skin is waving😔 sm really did him dirty.
yeah. i agree :'(
As a darkskin Asian I remember my first colourist incident when I was in KG-1(Kindergarten 1) I was put between these two girls and they were pushing me left and right and their whole reason was "ewww ugly the skintone will get on me so dirty" was their excuse for bulling me I was so young and naive I didn't even know I was hurting inside and later during a short break they locked me in a toilet and said "its better now we are saved" I didn't even cry I thought that was what society was like, and the teacher came open the door for me later after she noticed I was not present in the classroom and honestly I would preferred to stay there all day and when I got home I asked my mom if my skin colour could've rubbed off on others and that I think they should get me a seat at the end of the classroom cause I thought my skin colour was like a disease that I was born with, but my mom told the teacher about the situation and they let me sit near this sweet girl and I got through KG1 and 2 with her until we moved to another place

It’s so hard being a black kpop fan, they literally don’t listen to us they continue to make these “mistakes”, the N- word part got me so upset like it just kept going.
Yes, it really is hard!!!
That's why I really stopped getting into kpop, it's way too problematic.
it’s really frustrating
Sometimes I just wonder why I'm still a Kpop stan.
Yes those aren't mistakes they are racists period.
Ya maybe then there idols would realise these problems in the community and just Korea in general

I’m Asian and our community really needs to have the discussion of how we treat black, Indian and Native American people. Unless you're jessie nelson and your video is full of black people and she still cant get it right 🤣🤣🤣
I’m a Korean and this is just a reflection of how racism and colorism is so deeply rooted in Korean society.

I think every kpop stan should watch this video
Imagine how tired we black K-pop stans are, the colorism and blatant rac*sm makes me sick and at this point it's so hard to separate the art from the artists because it's happening too often, these are grown men and women and we can't keep making excuses for their behaviors
don't worry we still got eachother! all love to my black brothers and sisters
Why are people disliking this? That just shows how some fans are as ignorant as their idols
People have sent death threats and lots of hate to the creator of this video (she said it in a live) but she still has it up even though she’s gotten a lot of shit for it. Sadly, some people will just chose to not educate themselves and will chose to stay having a ignorant mindset.

Dude i remember commenting on that jennie trainee video when it first came out years ago and i asked why they were letting her get away with that. People replied that I was bullying a minor and that they weren't surprised she had haters already because she's so talented and pretty lmao.
Exactly
great point
Honestly as a Korean it makes me so upset to see these issues constantly happening. The Asian community fully understands what its like to be made fun of because of our race and heritage, so I don’t get why that translates to bitterness, resentment, and ignorance towards other poc communities. Especially towards black people. It really does make me feel so embarrassed and frustrated
You can make a difference by educating your fellow Korean peers
It's not yr fault and don't feel frustrated or embarrassed, cause you know yr truth,it's the asian people who are racist that must feel frustrated and embarrassed .people have to keep in mind that not all asians are racist .It may look like that but it's not the case.
@@me.shyann You don't need to educate them they know exactly what they're doing .

Why do so many people only like the black/African aesthetic, but hate us?
Because they wish that they had the gifts and talents that we have. They have hate in their hearts and think we don’t deserve to be who we are .
Korea is literally 100 years behind the ignorance is wild
They claim ignorance but they know exactly what they are doing.
They also disrespect to Indian culture like multiple times
Yeah
I've seen a lot of that as well. People are such jerks.
Yes I agree but let’s focus on black cultural appropriation. I’m sure a wonderful Indian person can make a video on it.
Yes
The Tibetan women pictured with the microbraids are usually Buddhists or Bon practitioners and are meant to have 108 braids (a special number within at least those sects of Buddhism and Bon). Having your hair "changed" from unbraided to braided usually happens around puberty and there's a whole very specific ceremony and party for it (like a Bat Mitzvah with more work!). Snatching that up without understanding the significance would be really shitty so...yeah no. Not chill even if they were mimicking another Asian style
It’s not the fact that they don’t know, it’s more of they don’t care. I’m blasian and my Asian mom constantly be racist but says she “respect black culture” while calling me nigga. not to take away from the video but please don’t consider tibet as a part of china, tibetans have been fighting and dying for tibet’s freedom. china has been covering up what has happened with tibet, but being a tibetan that has direct family members who lived through the invasion, part of the aftermath, and escaping china, it’s really offensive to tibetans to consider them as apart of china. chinese people have been appropriating tibetan culture through traditional wear, food, tibetan braiding, and etc. so please, if you’re going to talk about cultural appropriation and mentioning tibet, don’t consider tibet apart of china
I’m so sorry 😞 thank you for informing me
It's in the map.
Like wtf??
another question is why is it so hard to cancel kpop groups lol? like if this was a white space with white musicians and they did he same type of thing, wear locs, appropriate black culture, make fun of dark skin and say the n word, etc. they would be CANCELLED overnight. why the double standard?
keep the same energy
Great question!
exactly I don't get whyyy!!?? like madison beer and haily baldwin are still getting hate till that day for saying slurs and they actually apologized multiple times but then look at kpop idols that always get away with shit like that..i literally feel like kpop fans are brainwashed
Hailey Baldwin never apologized
Most Black American artists aren’t checking for Kpop so I doubt that would happen.
A lot of these idol members don’t realize by making fun and degrading another members’ dark skin, they are also making fun of fans that have dark skin like them or even darker. It’s disheartening.
They just don't care, not tht they don't know
Believe me... They are completely aware of their actions
They know exactly what they're doing they worship European white people like their gods . But I love the fact when you call them out on their racism they try to play victim
I hate when kpop stans weaponize ca, like an idol does something insensitive and their fans are like “well but (insert idol) did something worse”
I hate when fans will portray their faves as woke kings or queens, like when an idol does something insensitive and fans of other groups are like “yikes thank God I stan (insert kpop group)”.
I hate when kpoppies act like their idols are babies (mostly male idols)
Kpoppies want their faves to change but will throw themselves to hell ans back to defend their favorite Korean stars, screaming “clear the searches” “what if he sees this 🥺” bitch i hope he does!
Its always “lets email the company 🥺 lets educate them 🥺” never “they did something wrong that they need to get call out on, no matter if its in a harsh way”
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤧

This is literally the Cycle of Abuse. Apologizing, then doing it again, victims complain and point out the abuse and how it keeps happening and why its wrong, after a little while once the abuser feels the issue passed, the abuser offends again. I am sick of the low level of emotional intelligence accepted, gaslighting and outright lies. The answer to abuse is to walk away. Leave the person, unfriend, block, delete. Stop supporting them. Otherwise, 'taking them back' only gives them silent permission to do it again. Same as any other toxic relationship.

Yes. Everytime it happens it breaks my exo-L heart.
K-pop idols get away with this because the infantilization their foreign fans do. I'm tired of Asian people getting treated like babies and getting fetishized. K-pop idols aren't dumb, most of them are grown adults- I'm pretty sure they know what racism is.
they sure did
I agree especially these days when the media is pointing out racsim.
They know it when they're the victims. But turn a blind eye when they're the perpetrators/perpetuators of that same racism.
Asians thrive of romantization and fetishization. That's why asian media is so popular
Right it’s not fair for us black people and it’s not fair for Kpop members and it’s not fair for their fans

Honestly, its pathetic.
A lot of them white worthship
Its actually because in a lot of east asian countries especially korea has this beauty standard built around having a pale complexion so for a long time being pale is the beauty standard. Can't really blame the idols for wanting to be pale- though I dislike how some of them would constantly bash other idols for having naturally tanner skin.
Being pale on a sun planet where ultra violet is getting ultra violent.
You love our culture, music, and hair but not us
Even if they were begged by fans to use their platforms and speak up many did not.
