    Thank you for actually showing your use of Klipper in this video. I've seen many videos about this Sonic Pad but all of them go really into detail installing it all and they just show a single print to prove that it works. I love that you show your little process somewhat. Thanks.

  • @AdamThomas-wh9mx
    @AdamThomas-wh9mx ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Perfect. Im a software engineer so I don't mind the complexities of klipper but this still feels worthwhile to me. Pricing on RPi is insane at the moment anyway and I appreciate the complete package with the processor + screen + case all integrated rather than an ugly setup. Some have criticised this for being locked down but recent updates opened SSH for deeper config and also you can enable Mainsail and use the web interface for that, including integration with homeassistant. I don't need anything more and I think only those who are on the fringes and quite militant about open source should bother with a custom klipper setup. The only negative you could say is we are reliant on Creality to keep this updated. I think it's likely that future printers from creality might run this natively though, which would encourage them to keep doing so.

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes totally agree. I am still learning more about Klipper. So far there have been some very worthwhile updates from Creality. I think that in future some of Creality’s high end printers will come with Klipper as standard. There is certainly room in their product range for a higher spec machine to rival their competitors. You can now apparently run 4 printers from the 1 Sonic Pad. I have been running my new Ender-5 S1 and the Ender-3 S1 from the same Sonic pad at the same time. It disables the original touch screens but this means that the Ender-5 should fit in a smaller enclosure if you can turn it sideways if you no longer need to see the screen. Many thanks for watching.

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe it is meant to be testing X and Y at the same time, it certainly goes through 2 different cycles. Very strange test, sounds like some sort of aircraft taking off. The sensor is put on the hot end as this is where it will give the most effective results for printing but it is measuring the resonance of the entire machine. Many thanks for watching

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Adam, many thanks for watching. You should get the sensor and cable included with your Sonic Pad. The sensor is very small so keep an eye out for it in the accessories bag. I believe it is some form of accelerometer, the resonance test makes the machine vibrate at different frequencies, it is looking for the printer’s resonant frequencies so that it can avoid generating these when printing. I don’t know how it can achieve this but it seems to work.

    • @JimsonMakes

    Great video... and I updated mine here and it stopped recognizing the USB on the back... how do you connect the USB on the back so the cable is not connected to the printer? Do you know how to solve? and com only accepts the one from Creality?

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. The update resulted in the USB ports being assigned differently to allow connection of multiple printers. Your primary printer will be assigned to USB1 which is the middle port on the left side of the Sonic Pad. I don’t know how you change it to the back one, I am guessing, but if you keep adding your printer as a new additional printer it will eventually assign it to the back USB port. There is probably an easier way but I am not great with that stuff.

    Id recommend doing some manual paper calibration before the autobed leveling. That way the GCODE doesnt have to be automatically compensated to much =)
    Question: Does the standard screen still work? or is it completely replaced by this new one? :)

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks for watching. Yes manual levelling is essential, the bed had been manually levelled when running stock. I actually went back an re-levelled after one of the Sonic Pad updates. The printer screen is completely blank once running on the sonic pad and I have actually removed it completely so that it fits in the enclosure more easily.

    Great video Jim. I'm seriously considering making a jump to 3D printing. Have you done a breakdown of the cost to operate? For instance, do you know what the cost is to print one of your Cheese magnets? Thanks, V

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mike. 3D printing is quite addictive although can be frustrating at times. I think the thing I like best is designing something on my iPad and then being able to print it out. I haven’t costed it out exactly but because the pieces are hollow they actually use very little filament. With the resin printing there is a way of costing it out in the slicing software, it may also be possible in the other slicing software. It tells you how much filament the print will use, perhaps I should do some maths on it.

    Hi Jim! I have a Sonic Pad, too...but I had to get rid of my S1 because i just couldn't get it to print right. I just got an S1 Pro and want to add the Sonic Pad to it. How do you get your top surfaces so smooth? I can't get mine that way. I have been testing and have mine at 190 for the filament, 80% flow rate. 50ms & 1.4 retraction. I don't know what to do. I should probably get it smooth before adding the Pad. What do you think?

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brian, I have retraction set at 1mm and 45mm/sec, just about everything else is at the default Cura setting for the S1 Pro. I do enable retraction between layers when I remember. I print at slightly higher temps. I use eSun PLA+ filament printed at 215 degC, this gives great layer adhesion although it can be tricky to remove supports.

    I'm never sure how to do the Z-offset. It never seems to be right

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be tricky, it needs to be such that the first layer is slightly compressed into the bed surface. If it is sitting on the top as a roll it will not stick and if it is too squashed onto the build plate it also will cause problems. If you are having a lot of trouble it may be that your bed is not level or that your build plate has a dip or bulge in the middle, Klipper should be able to make corrections for this.
