    Yet another thank you for this helpful video as I'm unjammed and printing again. I recently upgraded from a bowden setup to the Sprite Extruder Pro and had my first jam at print #5. Had no idea an "un-jam" would be so involved, but here we are. I very much hope this process isn't a regular occurrence. Cheers again.

    Thanks so much for this video! Had my S1 for a week-and-a-half, and some tangled filament caused the end to snap off inside the extruder. Followed the "shortcut" you mention at the end, and was able to clear out the jam after removing only those three screws.

    Thank you so much for this video!!! I had a clogged extruder and followed the Creality video, which wasn’t sufficient. I had to disassemble the hot end and extruder. I found a tiny, plastic nugget about 1.75 mm cubed that was lodged in the extruder. Without your step by step video, I wouldn’t have had the nerve to take it all apart. You’re the best!

    Cannot thank you enough for making this video. I have an ender 3 S1, not pro, i’ve had a nasty clog in my line I doubt I would’ve had the confidence to take it apart myself and fix it had you not made this video. I wasn’t as lucky as you I actually had to disassemble the whole thing to get to the clog it was on the top not the bottom of the extruder and it actually gone sideways as well as clogging the top. Thanks again man would have been able to clear this one without you! 🙏😎👍

    Your teardown was a lifesaver. I had a piece of filament that broke/clogged above the ptfe and below the gears. I couldn't for life get it up or push it down and my gears were spinning freely, not even touching the piece. I had to do a full teardown to even grip the piece with pliers between the gears and yank it out. Most other videos did the shortcut you showed at the end, but that would definitely not have been enough for my problem. Thank you! I was going to buy a direct drive for my ender3 but after this clog on my S1 I'm definitely not lmao

    Thank you so much for this video - I’ve got a sprite on my ender 3 pro, and it jammed up HARD last night. After watching this I was able to take apart the extruder with confidence. Not only was my filament jammed up the way yours was in this video, a piece had broken off and jammed in the upper feeder so I HAD to take it apart to get all the bad filament out safely. Changing out the nozzle wouldn’t have fixed the problem (though I did that anyway), because the filament broke off above the gears.
    It’s running again now, hooray!

  • @mptrace
    @mptrace ปีที่แล้ว

    Another thank you - it's now the second time this video helped me. As mentioned in many other comments here, the filament did not get stuck at the hotend, but in above the ptfe tube at the gears. This happens to me with filaments that require a high temperature. I am not sure yet how to prevent this. However, you may have also noticed in Creality's official video on filament changing that they pull the filament out very quickly. I will try this in the future and hope it prevents jamming. It may also be good to wait long enough for all the filament in the hotend to melt properly.

    Thank you for your lesson. This was very helpful to pull the extruder apart. My issue was exactly the same as yours, I think my issue was caused by "heat creep". Looking at the piece of filament as it just enters the PTFE tube, it was slightly swollen. I have had my 3 S1, for about a year, and have just done prints up to 2 days. My clog occurred on the third day, of a 5 days job. Important to note! I have an enclosure, and the inside temp was up to 40 deg C. This might have been my problem. It is now summer and we had a 37 deg C day when this occurred (previously, was winter and spring, so the enclosure did it job). So have to see about regulating the enclosure to about 30 deg C. Or, have a better heat block cooler. That was my take, and again thanks.

    Thanks so much!!! Couldn't have fixed my clog without you!!! I did really well until I reached the extruder and all the parts fell out - including the spring - took about half an hour to get that back together, still not sure if I have the right spring tension but it seems to be printing okay? A an aside, my cause of clog was the screws holding the nozzle section came loose, the nozzle gouged the pei plate and wrecked the nozzle and I didn't realise and kept shoving filament in. Ironically I always watch the first few layers but had a knock at the door - when I got back a few minutes later it was too late for the pei plate..... Thanks again!

    The video helped me a whole lot. I am new to 3D printing. Got the S1 as well. Just had my filament get stuck in the extruder today. Mine was caused by the filament spool having a cross over in the middle of the spool. As it got stuck, it spun the gears on the filament and jammed it up. I could not for the life of me get it to come out. Two spools in a row had this problem. 1st one i caught and had to unspool about 30 feet to fix the spool. The second one i was at work. Good thing it was only about 30 minutes into a 10 hour run.

    Yip, happened overnight. I was doing a long print and I knew it would be overnight, so when I checked this AM, I was out of filament- DANG!. Re spooled and started over, after an hour I noticed no go. I followed your video but went straight to the hotend where I found the end of the last spool clogging up the works. Pulled it out , made sure new filament was going in fine, reattached the hot end and I'm printing again. Thx for the Video.

    I just cleared a jam on my Ender 3 S 1. The cause was improper filament change. Heating the hot end to remove old cold filament and pulling it out too soon, First verify the filament in the hot end is melted by pushing some out the nozzle, then pull it out.

My only request is a video putting the hole thing back together again. I know that is really time consuming, but would be most appreciated. I fully expect this to happen again to me and many other. Thanks again for a great video.

    Thank you so much for this video! I had to disassemble my S1 due to a blocked PTFE tube. I'm trying to put it back together and cannot for the life of me figure out where the heck all the screws go. I have 3 really long ones. I know 1 goes in the same side as the board but where do the other 2 go? I was trying to see the lengths of the screws as you pulled them but I think I missed those particular ones. Again, thanks for the video! Gave me the courage to dig in and figure out the issue.

    I just dealt with this, but mine cleared up. I was using luminescent filament (PLA) and the roll definitely has some odd shaped sections and imperfections that you can see. I think this is what causes the issue. The luminescent is clearish, but I found parts where there’s a black bubble in it and the filament is deformed and oval looking. Poor quality control with the filament co. (Disclaimer: these are my 2 cents… you don’t have to take them, I may be wrong anyways) . I was looking to learn how to take this apart just in case it does it again, so thanks for the great vid.

    Excellent video. I'm describing this print head as an "electronic onion". You have to peel back layers to get to the gears in the middle.

    Hi Jim !!! Genius, you are one of the 3D channels that I follow the most, not only have I printed my Mini Jim, but I learn a lot from your videos and I really appreciate the good vibes you have. Just as I learned from one of your videos how to level and calibrate the Ender 3 V2, I added an Ender 3 S1 to this, which seems like a great machine to me, although I followed a Creality tutorial to level the bed and use the CR Touch, and it has been perfect, after the third impression I have had to level everything again and to tell the truth I can't get it to be as before, can you or do you have a video tutorial to do this in the correct way and be able to save the changes? Please I will thank you if you can explain it, the machine is very good. I await your response, big hug and keep it up. Come on Jim!!!

    Happened to me on the first TPU print. I bought this printer due to it having direct drive extruder for easy TPU printing... I hope Creality can come up with a fix for this soon. My extruder was a tangled mess upon opening it up. I wish I could post pics here.

    I just installed a Sprite upgrade on my vintage Ender 3 and it jammed immediately upon trying to load the filament. Thanks to your fix (I did the quick version), I was able to get it out and it's printing as I type this.

    Hi new follower here because of this video. Thanks BTW. One thing to add on the s1 (non pro) there is a small bowden tube hidden inside the hotend. This was the issue on mine and it was the exact same symptoms. Thankyou

    Thank you! Lifesaver. I had to deal with a clog for the first time in my life! I fixed it.
    I would just want to prevent a clog next time..
    I used old pla filament, maybe I should avoid that...

    Thanks for the video. Worked for my creality ender 3 v3 se. One thing I will say to all, those 2 connectors you have to remove that have hot glue on them, I should have broke the glue free with a small flat head screw driver. My pins to the plastic male connector fell out. Not worried as the wire did not come free from the pins. I simply pushed them back in and applied the smallest amount of Krazy brand super glue to the rubber insulated side and back side of the plastic connector, careful not to let it leach into the pins. That one connector that came loose went to my bed level touch tool

    You really took the hard road. I have two of these. Had some clogs to deal with. Just heat it up. Remove the nozzle, then push a cleaning needled and your done. Try that next time. No need to take it apart Great videos.

      Do you have any idea on why they jam?

    • @ThantiK
      @ThantiK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@LuisHansenNH wrong geometry internally, no internal polishing, wrong alloys being used in the heatbreak, etc. E3D are the leaders here for good reason - they figured all of the perfect parameters long ago, and Chinese companies struggle to replicate it. Looks like in this particular case, expanded filament managed to get too high in the assembly.

    OMG! THANK YOU for the tip at 10:48!! After mistakenly loading PLA for a PETG print (d'oh!), a bit of filament broke off when I unloaded. After taking the Sprite off, I only needed to remove 3 screws to see the filament stuck in the throat. I pointed a heatgun at it, and used the hex wrench that fit the Set Screw to easily pop it out! I was back setting my Z offset in less than 30 minutes, thanks again for the tip!

      The tip at 10:48 worked for me, too, and I didn't need to do the full disassembly in the video thanks to this. This teardown video was a life saver --thank you. Since then, Creality support replied to me and sent a link to a video from them that confirms how to do this: th-cam.com/video/kVpGjHot8GA/w-d-xo.html

      @@GlennChenier , what's also nice, is that they show how to do it without using a heat gun. Although I don't recall if they tell you to turn off the heat before reinstalling the assembly. But, that's an easy lesson to learn! 😉

    Great video and very useful for those of us in the same ... jam :-) Before I saw this video, the sprite process looked pretty daunting. But, step by step, clearly described ... it was not too bad. (One very minor editorial suggestion. "Reassemble it by doing the steps in reverse order" ... it would be helpful to have some bookmarks for the various steps to make it easier to walk backwards through the video. I know ... looking a gift horse in the mouth.)
    In my case, it was a tiny pellet of filament (the heated blob) that got stuck after eject and broke off when I pulled hard to get the filament out. Since that area is not heated, no amount of pushing or pulling with various tools would get through

    This is my first 3D printer and got one successful print before this happened to me. I was very hesitant to pull the whole thing apart after owning it for 45 minutes, but your video helped through it and I was able to start printing again. Interestingly, my gears and spring came off in the opposite side of the housing than yours. And yeah...the spring and gears went flying all over the garage.
