Love this video. I frequently marvel at our community's capacity for supporting people and providing them with something to look forward to in their week. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences - that's an easy subscribe from me!
I'm so glad to hear this. Thank y'all so much for being such pleasant presences within the community. I look forward to making more videos for y'all to enjoy-including some spiky cEDH gameplay in the near future! :)
Thanks so much, C H! I look forward to a culture in which it's commonplace for folks to admit what they struggle with, and to not be afraid to ask for help. I guess this is a small attempt to change culture toward that end! And yeah: really hope to sling some cards with you!
This video came at a critical time, what with all the chaos in the world and division among MTG community. Thank you for reminding us all to remain positive!
Thanks for being group Dad Ken. When I found the group I had been looking for an outlet. Magic had always been a recurring theme throughout my years. Walking into big adventure and being invited, If I am not mistaken by Ariel to join on Sundays. Was one of the Biggest gifts I could have received at the time. Playing with you all and learning commander Buying and building decks. It's brought a lot of happiness to me over the past year. Thank you Ken, specifically for always leading the way for our group, by helping us navigate some of the more dynamic things we face as a playgroup.
Thanks to you I’ve found probably my favorite commander deck in the form or Krark/Sakashima. I’ve also watched almost every video of you playing the deck. I truly couldn’t be more thankful.
Thank you so much for putting your story out there. Magic has always been something that helped me out of a dark place, and it's great knowing that it does the same for others. Amazing video, I sincerely hope it and your channel get the exposure they deserve.
This was an amazing video, Ken. I know that without commander and EDH and the friends I've made through playing this game there really is no way I could have survived this quarantine. Things have been very dark, but Magic has consistently been a light in that darkness. Thank you for making this video, thank you for being part of this community
Hi willow! I'm so glad to hear that this resonated with you and that it even helped with some heartfelt emotions. Honored to hear it; thank you. Big love from here.
This is a great video. I personally got into magic not long after a breakup that left me drained of emotion and will to, well, really do anything. I doubt I was clinically depressed, but I had a lot of suicidal thoughts, and generally didn't see the point of life anymore. The period is a bit too much of a blur to remember the exact sequence, but a friend of mine dragged me over to our local game store after I had previously expressed some casual interest in the game, and it got me hooked to commander. It got me interested in going out and doing something again, and while at that point most suicidal thoughts were over, I think it did contribute a lot to me actually getting to enjoy life itself again. It's good to see that I have not been the only one to which Magic has done something positive like this, and your message of going out and getting help is absolutely necessary and true.
Happy to help! Right now we've got two edited EDH gameplay episodes uploaded. Next up: a deck tech, another video essay (on Commander & class), and some politicking, piloting, and deck construction advice!
Thank you for sharing your story. Former teacher myself; really empathized with frustration and disappointment turning into despair. Glad that you found something to add happiness to your life.
This is amazing. I too struggeled with mental issues that Magic helped me with. Mostly over-thinking and anxiety rather than depression but being able to brew decks in my head helped me from thinking about all the brain-waisting diseases I pacnicked about contracting. It is amazing how well it helps with stuff like that. Thank you for sharing this too. You are one of my favorite EDH resources on TH-cam.
Thank you for that video. It clearly resonates in me. Glad to see you're doing great now ! Will definitely keep an eye on your future videos. Take care.
I must be cutting onions or something...I'm totally fine, nothing to worry about here. Great video, Ken, and really dope way to introduce everyone to the channel. Really looking forward to more of your essays in general!
Your story is inspirational and totally relatable. Thank you so much for sharing this. As a cyclothymic person, who finds EDH a good outlet to channel energy into, I can totally relate. Loving your content!
Simon: thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really glad this helped. More on the way! (Recording a deck tech, and cutting together games 3, 4, and 5, very soon!)
Just got a new subscriber! After Spice's signal boost just checked several videos and you seem to check all the boxes for a delightful channel. Eagerly await more content! ^°^
Thanks for this. It's lovely. I also have Chron's and mental health problems, in addition to being an English teacher. A friend gave me a Pokemon deck while I was recovering from surgery in the hospital a couple of years ago and it changed my life. Cards are my main hobby, too.
"We can't do this alone" yup. We are social creatures and we need each other to get by, whether it's getting through depression or just living your every day life.
Loved it! Thank you so much for sharing your story, Ken.
So happy to hear it! It's great to more fully participate in the community that you've helped build for so long.

It takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there in this way. Thank you for sharing and I hope that we can clash over an EDH table some day.

I really love your videos, but damn these j-cuts r giving me whiplash
sorry about that! i know they're hard for some viewers. basically i need to get better at doing longer chunks of dialog in one take :(
Why does your depression feel more real than mine. Imposter syndrome is a b*tch.
