Today I'm getting casted away to The Sims 2 Castaway to an island on an island and casted away. And I think the game was released in October 2007 for some strange reason?

im going to be honest, castaway was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO unique, played the living hell outta it when it came out really, loved how ps2 sims used a you fully control the sim instead of commanding him, its sad that now the sims is now stuck on 4 which its the lamest and most monetised one

Yeah I get that! I feel like I would’ve really enjoyed playing it in 2007 and Tbh I love how you control the sims too!!! Yeah I just don’t get why they can’t make a cheeky port for the switch but i don’t think it would be the same I guess that era of sims games is over 🥲

@@prudencesofty yeap sadly, really wish they brought back the spinoff games, but also just really wished that they could let you change the control options instead of being oh look my sim doesn't want to do this task because he wants to do this other thing its just,, you move him with your keys and do the task that you need without having to waste time, kinda thats the main reason I have such good memories with the ps2 sims

I LOVED sims 2 castaway on DS. I actually replayed it recently and it’s just so fun.
I think my biggest mistake was playing it on an emulator 🙃 I think I would’ve loved it as a kid tho!!!
I had the DS version as a kid. Was more interested in looting the temple than escaping the island. 😂 As an adult, I finally completed the game.
Looting the temple is actually kinda fun tho you get treasure way more times than you come out empty handed it’s basically motherlode lol ! Tbh that game was kinda difficult as an adult never mind as a kid !!
God this game used to scare me so much, cause my sims always starved and I could never figure out how to get off the island

I miss this era of the sims so much!! Like all the non pc games were so unhinged. I remember renting castaway for wii from blockbuster as a kid and I didn’t like it or understand it. So many of the handheld/console sims I’ve played when younger but I really thought I just imagined them bc the games were so goofy.

Tbh I get that when I was playing all the sims 2 games for 2 weeks straight my god my brain was just filled with strangetown and the weird characters 😭😭 but I’m so happy u enjoyed my video thank you so much for watching!
I found it funny how the endings differ from the console version. The Ending on PSP actually has background sound, meanwhile in the Wii version it just plays the title menu theme.
And in the DS version you find an old pirate ship and sail home with all the other islanders (Doctor, Chef, Student) I used to be afraid of playing the Wii and DS version as a child because of how weird the graphics looked but after some years I managed to play through them both and also the PC version. Wich is basically like a reskinned Life Stories with features from the seasons expansion pack. Very fun, I recommend.
Yeah it's so weird how the endings are kinda different!! I get that the graphics are really weird especially the ds version so I'd probably feel the same lol!! Yeah you have convinced me to look into the 'stories' series I never played any of them before I guess Its because as a kid I had saved up for so long to buy the sims 2 pc game that I never financially recovered to buy any of the expansions to go with it or any other sims pc games lol!

Tbh castaways is one of the only sims title I return to often. I enjoy the entire survive and make your own stuff aspects of the game. Like a survival game with extra steps. And the side quests are fun too!!
It’s really good to hear that it’s a game u return to! Cos they’re the best kind!!! It does have its charm though I will probably feel nostalgic about it in a couple of years lol! But yeah it is a fun little game!

I've been playing the psp version and I actually appreciate the silent, isolated atmosphere. I think it helps that I'm a bit of a loner irl anyway and the beach and jungle ambience soothes me after a long day's work. Also, the bottled messages are hilarious.

I remember the PS2 version being really hard as a kid lol. There weren't any cutscenes like that though? And there were a whole group of people you get shipwrecked with. Unless I'm just remembering wrong lol it's been like 12 years since I played it 😂
I’m not sure if the ps2 version had a bit more to it than the psp version but you can make a whole group of sims but I only made 2 sims maybe that was my mistake, maybe it would’ve been more fun with more characters? And those cutscenes only happen when u escape the island, maybe it’s not like that in the ps2 version ? You should play it again tho, it’s a silly lil game!

Castaway Stories was the third game in a trilogy of Sims 2 spinoffs with a story campaign. Apparently they were also designed around working better on low spec laptops. It's the same theme but not the same game as the consoles Castaway, it's not as polished.
Ahhh right!! Sounds like it would’ve worked perfectly on my childhood family computer lol!
the PSP game having no music was a homage to the castaway movie and trust me, it did matter. when discussing the movie with my teacher (she does sound mastering as a career) she pointed to us that in the movie there was no music until the end to have us more immersed in the story and show the loneliness of the island.
Life Stories made me so excited to play Sims as a kid. It gave plot and direction in the sims for the first time

Playing Castaway Stories and then trying the DS version as a kid… I was beyond disappointed and confused 😆
I played it on the PS2 it's crazy how many ports they made for sims games in that era

I'm so excited that you covered this! I had the DS version as a kid. I really liked it but I could never figure out how to beat the game, but I was never very good at games as a kid haha. I remember spending a lot of time playing the bug game because I liked making paintings and you needed to kill the bugs to get new colors. I also really liked fishing. I think both of those things were easier on the actual DS, since it's easier to tap a bunch of things instead of clicking. Now I'm tempted to go back and try the game again and see if I can beat it!

That ds version was overly complicated tho so I don’t think it was anything to do with your gaming skills as a kid 😉 someone commented about the bug painting being really fun and it was the only thing I couldn’t be arsed doing! Always love these sim vids. :) As a poor console peasant I could never afford a good enough PC for the PC sims games everyone knows so these console ports were all I had. Good to see others talking aboot them. :)

I loved this game so much as a kid, played it all the time on my PS2. I still play it now and just think it's so amazing,, the PS2 sims 2 games were such gold, I'm still mad that they never introduced that clothes layering system into the mainline games

I played this as a kid and recently went OUT of my way to replace the cables for my wii and reorder this game from some random seller on eBay and I'm so so happy! It's great to see content on this ❤
However, the wii version was MUCH better. If I had played this version, I likely would not have had the same nostalgic love for it that I do now! If you ever get the chance, you should play the wii version. Easier to play than the handheld according to a lot of reviews and the graphics and game menus are much better. Overall, it seems like a more finished version of this.

I'm kinda glad I didn't get these games as a kid, I probably would've gotten bored real quick. There's isn't a real hook to the games, outside of some funny journal entries. Maybe the Wii/PS2 versions have more meat to them. As for The Sims Castaway Stories, it's just a paired down version of the Sims 2 with a storyline, the same is true for the other Stories games.

I had the Wii and DS version of this game and I replay the Wii version once every year or two and it’s still so much fun and so nostalgic. The sims 2 and the sims 2 pets for DS and Wii were so good too 😭
I been trying to find the Nintendo ds game where you are stuck on a island but the only thing I can really remember from the game was you could lift up a rock and collect bugs then smash them for paint or something like that but I still can't find it

I love this game. I hadn’t even gotten to play it that much but still vividly remembered how unique and fun it was.
Castaway was the first ever DS game I played and I made myself promise that Id find it one day and complete it... Took 10 years to even find it and I havent 100 precented the game yet but its still fun.
This was such a special game and people who never played it are missing out.
I played the DS version as a kid. I don't think I completed it, it was to hard. But yeah I think I enjoyed it.

I had the DS version and the PC version of the Sims 2 Cast Away, and yes you're right! I've got an enlarged nostalgia organ so I still love both versions. Loved this video, love your commentary, and thank you for the trip back to the early 2000s.

When I was a kiddo my mom rented this game for me from the video store and I remember playing it on my little tv in our camper and getting so mad!! When I figured out how to play I begged my parents to buy it for me and I got it for Christmas along with Petz Dogs 2 (another super fun game!) and Animal Crossing :) I was in first grade at the time, I’ve since developed a lifelong obsession with the Sims and I’ve probably beaten Castaway over 30 times. I used to look up cheat codes on our crappy slow internet and run back and forth between the living room with the tv and the computer room with the cheats lol!
I’m 21 now, I still occasionally play my copy of this game. Thank you for the nostalgia!!

I played the PSP and PC versions of this to the point of "completion" (IE: Getting off the island in PSP and building a family in PC)
IMO the PSP was the best, but the loading screens were awful.
It remains my favorite Sims game to date.

oh my god holy crap!!! i played this game on the wii when i was around 5 years old (im 16 now.. 11 whole years?!), and its such a strange but nice feeling to know this game wasn't a fever dream. a lot of the sims spinoffs feel like fever dreams due to how wacky they were lol. i played bustin out and the other sims games that weren't really recognized as a true part of the sims genre, like sim animals africa, or my sims kingdom (they were very chibi). but back on the topic of castaways, i don't remember if i got immensely far in the game or not as its a foggy memory, but i do recall the fishing, chimps, "house" building, some huge temple with black steps that i couldn't climb up, and some large green island. regardless of how difficult it was i absolutely loved this game. i really wish to pick this game up again. everyone seems to have sweet memories of it.

I had the sims 2 castaway on the ds as a kid, i remember consistently getting really confused and so i'd just restart the game entirely every time I played to get more content out of it. I think the furthest i ever got was chopping the vines with the axe. I could never pinpoint why the game felt so eerie and isolated, but it scared me when I was small. I remember vaguely liking the minigames too. This was a great video, I'm having a blast going through all the sims videos you've uploaded, your content is so fun!

Bug squishing was my factory’s game as a kid 😂 I was so good at it I would squish nearly all the bugs at one and get a perfect every time. I was the bug squishing master

Sims castaway on the wii was a major obsession of mine as a kid! Wandering around with my chimp friends and gathering food and resources was my favorite. I remember the sim ai was kinda garbage though, I had to keep the stove walled off because the other castaways were constantly cooking food and not eating it. It was a ton of fun though!
I'd love to see a retrospective on Bustin' Out sometime! I loved it as a kid (well, until the end of it). It's probably one of the GBA games I played the most as a kid, alongside Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town and Sims Urbz!

On the PSP, to get the rest of your crewmates rescued, you have to call them all to the top of the volcano. I remember doing this as a kid, but one of my sims left before I had a chance to send out the SOS, so I was very upset I'd just abandoned them on the island.
The cooking system was so fun! I loved mixing random ingredients.

I played a lot on ps2. Loved the game and wish that EA would remaster it. In the video is mentioned the lack of music on the islands, but truly I loved that, you are alone in an island earing in the distance the wild life. Even has a kid I found myself appreciating the enviorment around. I think that having music would ruin the whole vibe of the game

Omg!! I played this on the Wii and I remember this was my only exposure to the sims 2 so I came away thinking wow I really don’t like sims 2! So when sims 3 came out I was floored at the differences- Having no idea that there was a regular not stranded on an island sims 2 lol

Castaway was by far the best experience back when I played. Still play it to this day, even on psp

@@prudencesofty It gave so much more than the usual console release at the time. Usually those were story based. This one gave the feeling you'd expect a sims game to have, plus had plenty of exploration and stuff to do

O my god. I only just played the PC version, and had no idea the DS Version is so different. The PC Versionis amazing though, Sims 2 mechanisms (including features from pretty much all expensions: eg. Chemistry, weather, pets etc.
Just the pleasure Aspiration is missing). It has cut scenes, even inuding Alien anduction. You can basically be the typical romance sim, romancing everyone on the island (Spoilers: even though you're married by the end of the story).

The only spinoff I've played see Bustin' Out and Urbz, each for the PS2 and GBA, and also Sims 2 pets for DS. I think that's the only Sims console games I had as a kid?

I remember playing the DS version as a child, but not understanding much, as it wasn’t in my language. Still had so much fun though, might try it again now that I understand English. I also played the sims 2 on ds (really weird game tbh) and some type of sims pet game in which you’re a vet.

I LOVE Sims 2 Castaway. The PS2 version is my favourite and still play it now. Also I promise that bug game for the DS is sooo much easier on the console! The Castaway stories is a great game but more similar to your PC games. I much prefer the Sims Life Stories and I highly recommend you give it a play! I still remember my shock with the story lines. There is a Pets Stories too but I haven't played it yet. Your videos have been so great Ab :D x

On the console versions, you if you send a S.O.S on crystal island you get abducted by aliens and receive alien food in your inventory.

played the shit out of the Ps2 version, still one of my favorites
The Sims Castaway Stories is great. It has a free play mode so even if you don’t like the story mode genre you basically get a version of the sims 2 that plays smoothly even on low grade laptops.
The way I played this as if it was the video game for Lost
