hey dudes - I want to quickly clarify some points, since it seems I didn't give them a proper explanation in the vid:
1) There are *definitely* items in TF2 that benefit teammates, such as Soldier banners, mad milk, sandvich, etc. These are great items but they are supplementary to each class "core" role - for example, a Soldier's "core" moveset is centered around high amounts of rocket damage. He has the ability to provide *minor* team buffs with buff banner (as a tradeoff for less shotgun damage) but his core kit is built to deal damage, not to buff teammates.
By comparison, MANY Overwatch characters have a "core" moveset that is entirely based around benefiting teammates. Reinhardt's single most important move is his shield, and it DRAMATICALLY increases the power level and effectiveness of a team. TF2 Soldier can buff his team, but never in the core way that Reinhardt's character is designed to do, or Orisa with her shield, or Lucio with heal aura, or Dva with defense matrix, etc.
The way I phrased this in the video sounded like TF2 characters have ZERO team buff abilities, which is obviously incorrect - that's a dumb oversight by me. The intended point was to compare Overwatch characters being fundamentally designed around team buffs, versus TF2 characters being fundamentally designed around damage output, but I should have worded this better.
2) I am aware competitive TF2 exists! I competed in a season of UGC Highlander, played a bunch of TF2 lobbies, watched tournaments, etc. TF2 is my most played videogame (1600 hours), so I've experienced every aspect of it. But in this video I was deliberately narrowing the focus to "Casual TF2" versus "Casual Overwatch", as I believe this is how 90% of players experience both games, and it's the part that I am personally drawn to. As I laid out in the video, I feel that the casual playstyle of these two games offer vastly different fundamental experiences.
That being said, I think I failed to give competitive TF2 proper credit here, and even implied that competitive TF2 *cant* exist, which is absolutely not true. I love comp tf2, I will continue to play comp tf2, and absolutely didn't mean to shun the scene.
With both points, I think I tried to oversimplify things and ended up leaving out major game elements in the process. I really do appreciate the feedback on these though - I'm brand new to the "video essay" format so I'm still making mistakes, but trying to improve at it as fast as I can and will keep trying to improve for future videos

update on the current state of the restaurants:
overwatch has shut down its first location to make a second one across the street while still serving the same foods.
tf2's restaurant manager has said "hey I'm gonna go home for a bit ill leave the door and the lights on, jerry the janitor will make sure no-one breaks anything, have fun" and the restaurant hasnt 're-opened' but jerry has kept things interesting and the community is still having fun.

@@johnheckerson6736 Nothing wrong with cosmetics to an extent, but that isn't all Overwatch 2 did that pissed me and many other people off. It's that the game is practically identical to Overwatch 1 but worse in multiple ways.
Now, things that were previously available are now locked behind a paywall and obtaining them through gameplay is clearly disincentivized seeing as players earn only 60 coins per week. Additionally, the prices for some of those cosmetics and their bundles are/were insane for only being a cosmetic.
5v5 was not what this game was built for, especially in regards to the characters. They were designed with 6v6 in mind and making the tank the primary player doesn't work as well as it could've if Blizzard reworked the heroes to be tailored to it.
Every issue from the first game is still here. The game expects an unbelievable and unreasonable amount of cohesive communication between players in order to excel, even more than before now since matches are 5v5. The roll queue still exists for some fucking reason.
TF2 has some insane prices for cosmetics. but those are in a league of their own and are more akin to trading cards than actual skins. Tf2 also has several weapons that can completely change how you play a class and have a direct effect on gameplay.
The main difference between TF2's monetization and OW2's is that TF2 doesn't push it on to the player. It's completely fine to play both games without spending a cent on cosmetics but Overwatch 2 constantly shoves them in the player's face.
Also, do not give me the "but it's free" argument. Remember Halo Infinite? Remember Diablo Immortal?

Fun fact: I used a Doug Doug style food analogy to explain the differences between the ways tf2 and overwatch have their characters and it was like this
Playing a TF2 character is like buying a pizza, extremely customizable, you can play soldier normally with pepperoni’s and cheese and stuff OR you change into rocket jumper and parachute and eat Hawaiian

Then there's overwatch 2, which is perfectly designed to _look_ tastier than the first cake, but then you take a bite and the frosting is just waxy (in a bad way), the cake itself is dense and tasteless, and then you go to leave and it turns out the single slice they gave you cost as much as the whole first cake, plus extra for the little chocolate flowers they added to make the plate look nice.

gunslinger engi still can play very aggressive and build teleports and protect his team by building minis to deny enemies jumping his medic or something
Gunslinger actually puts an emphasis on support by taking focus away from your sentry.
Hey, we battle engineers can actually support the team even more! Especially when you aren't playing payload or attack/defend.
On the other maps battle engi is even more useful. Literally any map where you can both attack and defend is perfect for battle engi(KOTH and CTF,even CP with 2 teams trying to capture points and not only 1,even double PL).
I love engineer because i can support my team, but still go out with a shotgun and get the job done myself.

I'm a bit _late_ but i think Tf2 would be more comparable to a burger.
every piece alone tastes great, and you don't need to change it, like a mea-vy (meat+heavy) is amazing alone. and some pieces tastes not as great alone, like med-bread, or cond-ineer (condiment + engineer). But can still be eaten differently, like battle med-ettes (baguettes).
However, all together taste better, (in casual, sure mea-vy can taste fine alone, but with a med-bread, it makes it greater.)
And you don't need everthing, you can have a mea-vy, a med-bread, maybe a cond-ineer if your on defense, but you don't need a pick-out (pickle+scout).
It even goes farther like, having too much spy-matoes, can begin to taste bad, and for a stable team, you should probably have 2 med-breads.

We can all agree Overwatch and TF2 are both relatively niche communities of fun players with fun people who both deal with their fair share of shenanigans when they're just trying to come home from work and game, especially Mann vs. Machine II in TF2 pubs.

Here is me comparing all tf2 classes to treats, in accordence with the gameplay and this videos metaphore, because I play too much tf2.
Scout is like a lollipop, tastes great but is best enjoyed seperatly, as putting them in the frey with the rest will just result in you chewing it to pieces get to the other candy, or removing it and putting it somewhere else because of his low hp and high evasion. Best on flanks, and in 1v1's.
Solider is the classic candy bar, allways delichious, never mixes poorly with other candy, and capable of being a well rounded snack all on it's own. Everyone likes the solider, and picking him is never a bad idea, the ideal iconic tf2 experience (and incidentally my least played class, so no bias its just a great class).
Pyro is like jeallybeans because it's very easy to like, and is nice alongside almost any collection of candy, but it mostly comes down to just being flavored sugar, and you at some point realize that even though the skill cealing is relatively high in theory, in practise mastery gives diminishing returns, making it easy to feel like developing skill doesn't do much, but tf2 is casual, and skill makes it more fun so definetly still worth it.
Demoman is non-stop; a tasty and sweet treat, but only eating non-stop can feel a bit limited. Works great when mixed with other candy, and allways wellcome, unless there is too much spam.
Heavy is like a bowl of ice cream, works excellently on his own but definetly benefits greatly from allies, being so slow to eat and vulnerable to flanking classes. Heavy benefits greatly from topping, and can provide a lot of damage and tanking to a team, but only if people play along with him.
Engineer is more like a bowl of salted roasted nuts, that goes with anything, elevating their flavor notably, but is a neat snack on it's own just kinda limited, though this is made up for by the variety of nuts out there, and how just a little honney or sirup can make it a nutty bar, and suddenly you have a more worthy lone snack (battle engie).
Medic is like a soft drink that helps the thirst so you can eat more candy, it definetly elevates the experience, and can be considdered essential, but you haven't really had candy with just medic. While a snack is allways nice, many would argue it's not snacktime without a tasty drink to go with it.
Spy is like liqerish, due to it's unique flavor. It can be sweet or salty, depending on whether you have aquired the taste for it, but in the end it remains a candy that many find anoying in a bag of mixed candy, especially if there are a lot of them.
Sniper is like boubblegum, you hardly ever mix it with anything else, and (unless you use the huntsman) probably messed up if you find yourself on the frontline. Some people find the chewing itritating, and don't like finding gum everywhere.
