    Not necessarily in order of video!
    1. Psyllium
    2. Artichoke - has inulin
    3. Kefir / fermented dairy ( Yoghurt, cheese)
    4. Flaxseed
    5. Bone broth - gelatine & glutamine
    6. Fermented cabbage / veggies
    Combination improves quantities and types of bacteria and increases their effects on health.
    Ps Buy kefir grains ( a little pricey) specific for milk or for water & make your own kefir for free !
    Once it gets going, it produces kefir every 24 hrs.
    Need only drink 50 ml daily.
    The kefir grains grow rapidly unless you refrigerate it.
    Give excess grains you don't need to family, friends, neighbours etc & do a little good! 👍

      I don't know about brands.
      It's not a common product so I'm guessing any one will do & I think only specialist shops would keep them.
      I got mine from a friend in 2019 & it's still going strong !
      I refrigerate it to stop it growing too quickly ! As you can keep it at room temp but the grains multiply so fast that you end up having to throw a lot away (unless you find a home for them !).
      I think if you Google kefir grains and look for a well-established company which has a website explaining what to do etc and organic etc then you should be fine.

      I don't think it necessary to do everything.
      Once you have a good biome I would think it was capable of self-maintenance .
      It's our processes foods, refined sugars & added chemicals that destroy it in the first place.
      So once you're eating simple home cooked food it should keep your gut ok.

      Yeah, I recently learned that wheat and oats are sprayed with Roundup right before harvest to kill it and dry it standing up. It is called "desiccation". Makes it easier to cut and they can harvest it immediately without waiting for it to dry naturally.

    When my daughter moved in with me she was constantly in pain due to constipation . I got her to start taking psyllium husk and aloe vera juice. Now she faithful drinks her aloe vera juice with the psyllium husk mixed in it. She has no more pain and can eat vegetables now that use to cause her pain. She is living proof that it works.

      I concur 100% on the psyllium and aloe vera juice mixture. I suffered for many years with constipation, my gut was not healthy overall, but seeing a homeopathic nutritionist solved that problem for me. As far as the psyllium and aloe vera juice that works wonders in the gut it helps me tremendously!! My recent colonoscopy results proved it! It showed a healthier colon than 10 years ago!!

      ​@@sanetclaassen1586 I use 1 tsp Psyllium Hulls Combo (Psyllium, Hibiscus, and Licorice), 2 tbsp Aloe vera juice, 1 tbsp Chlorophyll, 1 c. water. I drink this every other day. I use Nature's Sunshine brand. For my gut health, I also use Organic ground flaxseed in some of my foods, like oatmeal, yogurt, cereals, and smoothies...I buy mine at Trader Joe's.

      @@sanetclaassen1586 my daughter mixes three-forths cup aloe vera juice with one tablespoon psyllium husk and drinks it every night before bed. That's what works for her but you my have to adjust it to fit you. It took her a little bit to get it just right for her. She uses Walmart brand orange flavored psyllium husk and Fruit of the Earth aloe vera juice. Both bought in the Walmart pharmacy section. WARNING: Drink it quick or it will gel on you.

    I'm 77. When I was a kid my grandmother used to make a gelatin dish by cooking down chicken bones. She would add chicken and hard boiled eggs sliced and pour in a glass baking dish so it was 1-2 inches thick and refrigerate. To serve the gelatin she would cut into squares. Old World Cooking...
    she was originally from Belarus .

    I had to take antibiotics last winter. I fought bad bacteria internally for almost a year. Apple cider vinegar was the one thing that really fixed my damaged gut biome.

      Yea i been experimenting with acv. I notice when i soak beetroot in acv i get very good movements. Also not taking any more dairy has been a big help

      @@kirkkirkland7244 yea they def did something like that 4 me. Stomach went crazy. I researched the antibiotic and its a fungus. A fungus that kills bacteria. I think taking milk after.... kept the antibiotic fungus growing. Im now 3 months milk free and still improving.

    Be very careful with psyllium husk. Just very minor, one teaspoon at first. It almost killed me when i foolishly mixed 3-4 tablespoons into a shake mix a year ago. It can literally turn to stone in intestines. It is great stuff if taken cautiously.

      Agree; I take psyllium husk capsules and you have to make sure to drink enough fluid afterwards. I got careless about that and almost had to go to the E.R. for bowel blockage.

      what i bought did say it needs to add a spoonful to warm water. it will turn into a gelatinous goo and it absorbs tons of water, a spoon turned like 1 dl into pudding. so it makes sense why.

      @@billpetersen298 it's a plant, google it, I think it's an indian grain/flower type. kind of crazy it has no lectins and can soak a huge amount of water, also one of the highest fiber content per gram, like 80%. tastes bland and kind of goey when soaked in warm water. made some tortillas with coconut flour and psyllium, acts as a gluten/eggs replacement, still not sticky enough but kind of good.

    Thomas, I must correct you on something. Inulin is found in Jerusalem artichoke, which is a different plant than a normal artichoke, which contains cynarine. So we are dealing with two different plants and potentially two different supplements made from those plants. Jerusalem artichoke is a root and normal artichoke grows above ground.     The biggest problem with the broad "eat more fruits and veggies" thing is that "more" doesn't help you understand 1. If you're already eating enough and 2. If you need to increase, how much do you need to increase? There was a cool paper that came out in 2018 that helped with this- it showed that people who consumed 30 or more unique plant foods each week had the healthiest, most diverse microbiomes. Since I started giving people an actual number to shoot for (30), it has radically changed my practice and the gut health of the people I help 🥰

    Psyllium husk is nothing but Isabgol 😀
    In India its kind of a tradition to give this with hot water or either almond oil or castor oil before bed every other week, especially after feasts in festive seasons of which there are many here

      @@beacon4677 flaky husk about a tablespoon with enough warm water so that it stays more like a loose gel and doesn't become a sticky dough. Either weekly or biweekly. Not too frequent obviously, any supporting intervention done regular and your body becomes dependent on it.
      Alternatively you can take a teaspoon of almond oil with a little bit of warm milk or same amount of castor oil with warm water

    I have been making kefir for several months here in the Philippines. Buying kefir grains online offered my choices of Irish, Belgium, Russian, and one other strain. The Belgium is the least "sour" and has the most varieties of good bacteria I read. Sauerkraut is also always home made.

    Love the how you refer to increasing diversity in the microbiome as 'risk management'! Given how much is left to be learned about the microbiome and specific strains, seems like the most reasonable/achievable route for gut health is via these foods rather than random megadosing of probiotic supplements.

    Psyllium, artichoke, bone broth, flax, and fermented foods.
    I picked up an Older slow cooker at a thrift store to constantly make bone broth. (The new ones shut off automatically after 9-12 hours. They are only good for meal preping.) I use bones ( about 6 drumsticks or 3 chicken feet.) I fill it with good water and add organic onion or garlic skins that I would otherwise compost. Any item I would compost, I add like: organic celery ends etc. Except mold I compost them directly. Then after I’ve used the rich bone broth for a week, I drain it and compost it. Thoroughly wash the slow cooker pot and start the whole process over. When I’m baking I add cup of rich bone broth to it. It tastes delicious. Then every night I drink one cup of the bone broth. As long as I do this, my nails are fine. If I stop for 2 weeks my nails will begin breaking and cracking.
    He’s right and it’s so easy and Cheap, the way I do it.

    Thankyou for explaining this! I've been waiting for bowel surgery for 3 years- covid shut that down too. I've decided I'm no longer getting it. Two weeks ago I went carnivore and haven't had ANY bowel or bone issues. I'm an advanced crohns sufferer I feel fantastic!!! . My biodome has also been under attack for years and I'm so happy to add these nutrients!!

      I was about to mention carnivore when I read the first sentence. I also have had terrible bowel issues in the past, it became inflamed and I was in ICU with it, went on steroids etc. Carnivore has been the easiest way of eating out of them all (keto, low carb etc.). I'm so happy to hear you're improvements, I shared a hospital ward with someone who had crohn's, it's no joke. Really wish more people doing keto for health would at least try out carnivore. So happy you're feeling better :)

I too am a Carnivore and though I never suffered from gut issues I am a huge beneficiary of the ideal human diet. It may not be some peoples cup of tea but it is everyone's best option to figure all their inners out.

    Not everyone can tolerate flax! And I'm one of those folks. He is promoting some really good things but "one size does not fit all"! You need to check out what you personally can tolerate.

    Eating is becoming a arduous task. All these complications because of our food quality. If industrialization never took place and the farm to table system been left in place we would of been better off.
    I’m exhausted just trying to eat without concern of if the organic food they say is organic truly organic. Or if what they list in the ingredients are fact or did they intentionally leave something out.
    Let’s talk about bone broth. Whether I get it from box or cow, was the cow truly grass fed grass finished? 🙄🙄😞

      I feel you. I was told I was imagining things :D and after 6-8 years its come to the point where it's impossible for them to say I'm ok cuz the bloodtests say so. I really hate that organic foods are so extremely expensive...

      Many stuff in the organic aisle is still sugary pasteurized crap. Wildly grown raw things may be better.
      I am on the carnivore diet right now and don't bother too much about 'organic' labels, it still makes a big difference to my well-being. If you know the farm personally, it's better though. Like the one where i get my milk and eggs. They look and taste different.

    I buy organic psyllium husk and organic flax meal ( toasted and very tasty) on Costco online.. Mixing it 2:1 ratio and then drink it close to sleep time and Vu a la! Nest morning lots of outcomes. If you drink psyllium alone it's difficult to swallow.

    Just an observation about Artichokes. When I go to Aldi's they have two different jars of Arrichokes. One jar with the green lid has the artichoke quarters in a brine. This is the jar that works for me. The other jar has the quarters in a vinegar base liquid and for some reason these do not have the same good effect. They are actually tastier but don't resolve the constipation like the other kind does. Weird but I'm happy to discover the ones that do work

    This one of your best videos - Having good gut health depends on variety. Eat moderate amounts of as wide a variety of foods as possible. Media keep coming up with new "superfoods" so try them but eat as wide a range as you can, including non-trendy ones.
    Pay attention to how each food makes you feel. If you suddenly lose mental focus, get bloating, or just feel miserable, then it's a sign that it wasn't such a great idea for you. .. and as an older person, I hope younger people understand that your gut biodiversity is going to be key to your gut health as you age.

    I AM 42 years old man, I don’t drink alcohol, never smoked, no drugs etc. I have very eat life without stress and I would describe myself as a friendly and positive person- but 😂 I discovered just after 30 that I have very often headaches and them I have to go to the toilet few times- i stated to make a note with food I previously had- I have food intolerance after eating - celery , red and white cabbage, buckwheat, millet, barley, seafood, almonds, pistachios, cranberry, dry and fresh plums, raisins, oats, beef , turkey, duck, lamb and wild meats ( except chicken and pork) !!
    Also alkohol is not good for me , the same like wine ( especially red) I don't like beer, so I don't drink alcohol at all.
    I love white and green tea.
    I had meningitis when I was a child - if that helps.
    I have allergie or strong response from my body ( especially my eyes ) after taking acetylsalicylic acid.
    I have never had a stomach ache after eating anything in my life!!! I always have a headache first - it usually lasts up to 20 hours after eating and then I have to go to the toilet several times (I have slight diarrhea).
    I am 182 cm tall and I weigh 72 kg. I have an athletic figure, I don't have any diseases, I had hernia surgery when I was a child and once again at the age of 30, this time on both sides of my groin.
    I had few appointments with doctors and dietetics unfortunately, none of them was able to help me.
    I started to have strange symptoms : I had a very long-lasting cough for almost 3 months and now I feel like I have something in my throat and I have to cough quite often - I have such a hoarseness.

    I knew about psyllium, flax bone broth gelatin and fermented foods, but artichoke was a complete surprise. Oddly enough I have been craving (and eating) fresh artichokes with garlic butter. I make my own kombucha, keifer and yogurt. Trying to get off sugar so this is a very inspiring video. Thank you so much!

    Thanks for all the great videos. You are so very knowledgeable. I've been taking two heap and teaspoons of psyllium fiber and raw cocoa powder for about the last 15 years, and have added inulin in the past year. Keeps me regular, and my cholesterol and triglycerides are perfect, despite eating a lot of eggs and bacon, etc. Take a few other things, spirulina, cylon cinnamon, creatine, beetroot powder. I always try and allow a couple of hours after the fiber before taking medications or eating anything with a lot of nutrients.

      Cocoa contains quite some antinutrients. I think your other suggestions are more safe to supplement. But supplements alone don't make a whole diet anyway 🙈

    I used to use ground golden flax for baking and with yogurt, etc. I had tried the brown one as well. I also consumed flax oil with rice cakes and cheese for a few months.
    I learned many years later that flax oil is not safe for those who have bleeding issues.

    great post I’ll still take pro/prebiotic when I want to boost my immune system. Carbonaut low carb bread has enough Psyllium per serving, I also use golden flax and chia to get a variety of fibre. Bone broth good analogy with the glutamine and gate wide apart.

      Animal broth is a NoNo... Many Lentils, Pulses , Grams, Legumes, etc contain gelatine & collagen minerals require d without intake of bones & animals. Neither are Artichokes, Kimchi, Flax available everywhere, rarely if ever....!!
      Plenty of Other options are thre for, as options. !
      Obviously u are young, inexperienced & an amateur, tryin to do more PR, actually u r doing more for products sale promotion of fire kettle bone broth etc.O'Come on

      Aldo Matulich, NO on flax oil. Any ground is good about a day, so must grind at home as needed. Because it was used to repair heart attack tissue, I switched to leaving them whole, and mixed in goat cheese with a strong oregano herb, and garlic in some, and the light grey salt that is so good for reducing heart attacks. The seeds soften so much they are easily ground by your teeth. That light grey salt is the only live one from Celtic. I'm using a table spoon or 2 several days a week. For heart attacks it was given a table spoon or 2 per hour, immediately. Seventy % more healing to hearts of these people than those receiving no goat cheese and flax, but these people had the flax ground not premixed, I don't know if they had teeth. A bunch of people in a small study. Russian study, female doctor.

    i use organika grass fed bone broth & sports research gelatine to make a veggie soup ( 9 or more different vegetables). i add tomato paste & miso, everything bagel seasoning & chilli flakes to spice it up. when you put it in the fridge it becomes like a jello soup. every morning i eat a BIG bowl of this. feels so good and healthy, especially during the cold winter mornings.

    RE: chronic diarrhea (SIBO/Pylori). Are psyllium husk, artichoke powder, and flax seed meal soluble fiber? If so, how much per day should I take? I think Thomas said about 7 grams of psyllium husk. I also drink homemade bone broth daily. Suggestions please. Thank you.

      I also have chronic diarrhea from recurring SIBO infections. Psyllium is insoluble & speeds up my gut motility. Soluble fiber like Benefiber or Heather's Tummy fiber slows passage of food in my gut. I also drink bone broth w/ collegen for mucosal layer enhancement in my small intestines & eat fermented ( pickled) foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, pickled beets, cucumbers. I'm going to try baby artichoke hearts next & ground flaxseed .

    I've tried and tried psyllium, but it doesn't work for me. I have read that acacia fiber is a good alternative, so I recently purchased it....haven't started consuming it.
    Is bone broth high in oxalates? If so, I suspect it's a good idea to consume calcium-based food with it? Or, does bone broth contain enough calcium to prevent an increase in oxalates?

    There was a study that showed eating potatoes created the greatest diversity in the microbiome. You could cook the potato a day or two in advance to allow it more conversion of carbs to resistant starch and eat them when you're cycling off keto.

    I started keto because of chronic brain fog, forgetfulness,fatigue and bloating. Everything but the bloating has improved. What I have too much psyllium husk it makes me constipated. I have to be really careful of my vegetable intake.

      I went to the gastroenterologist for constipation and she said take psyllium husk capsules she said I take them. I got excited thinking this is going to work. I took them and became more constipated and I drank the suggested water with them. Plus they made me bloat out.
