Hmm... M2 has better graphics performance... perhaps base model current gen with 128 at the same price is better. Better front camera placement and apple pencil hover. Just saying...
When are you going to make a new video about the Snapdragon X Elite chips (now that they're out) and maybe compare the iPad M4 with the Microsoft Surface Pro 11th gen?
I got the m2 11 inch for 256 gigabytes for $800 when its was new he didn’t tell you it has the same battery information inside of the battery settings as the iPhone 15 modes like cycle count manufacture date etc.. also if you lose the apple pencil a lot there’s is find my Apple Pencil built into the software of the Apple Pencil
Unbeatable value really. I was looking at the 13" Pro 512GB with cellular, but it's £1699, ouch! - I won an older one on eBay, same specs but M1 cpu (already way overkill) for £570, that's 1/3 the price and still has the incredible miniLED ProRes display.
I upgraded from a M1 iPP 12.9”, to the M4 13” iPP 1TB nano screen version and though I know I didn’t “need” it, I was tired of traveling with the M1 iPP both because of its lack of battery life and the weight. The new M4 and Magic Keyboard are now on my list of one of my most favorite Apple devices ever. And I have owned and have been working with Apple computers and devices going back to the late 1980’s.
I use an iPad daily with some Microsoft apps and I hardly ever touch my MacBook anymore. Unless you are doing something that specifically needs different hardware or software not on the iPad , the iPad really does do it all.
I love iPads but two things we can all agree on 1. If it’s going to be a pro device, it needs pro features to do pro things… like a professional. 2. Even if it doesn’t get macOS, it still needs an operating system that has more functionality than the iPad currently offers I have an iPad Pro M2 and I love it for what it can do but I consistently find myself desiring more power user features.
Let’s see what they come up with at the next event . They must be feeling the overwhelming desire from most that the operating system needs and overhaul .
It’s a touch device first. It can’t run MacOS. They need a specific OS for this device that will support both touch and mouse, that won’t bottleneck its power, while still providing a tablet like experience. As a UX designer, that’s a problem you don’t wanna solve.
I had been going back and forth between upgrading to an M4 iPad and a MacBook Pro since I have an aging 1st generation iPad Pro. It came down to a resounding YES for me personally. I use the pen, love the pen upgrade, love the Magic Keyboard, and I feel like this one should have no problems serving me for the next 7 years like the last one did.
The iPad is primarily a consumption device for me. I love the 120Hz refresh rate on my 2018 iPad Pro. But every time I try to watch anything on it, especially in dark places like mid flight, my iPhone (13 pro before, 15 pro max now) just looks so much better with its true blacks instead of the greys on the iPad, that despite the small size, I just switch to the iPhone. This is much more apparent in HDR/Dolby Vision content. I am not sure why some reviewers are saying that the OLED display is not that big a deal.
You tubers need to stop reviewing the iPad as something it isn’t. It isn’t a desktop replacement portable device laptops do that iPads do not, what it is, is a brilliant creative and consumption device for on the go, the whole point of a tablet. It will cover the basics of office work at a pinch but that’s not its primary function its primary function is art and video and photo editing on the go, it’s design, taking notes, marking up plans, signing off pdfs, taking and sharing pictures and video from on site, having zoom meetings, storing user manuals. It’s brilliant at all these things better than a laptop for most of them and that is what your iPad Pro is for.
Disagree: You can get a cheap tablet either Apple or Android or Windows even and run remote desktop to use it as a thin-client laptop for work. So you're first point that the iPad is "ONLY" a sort of passive consumption device is not exactly true. A lot of people would love a portable laptop-like device that can double as a tablet for ease of use and casual use apart from professional use (ignoring artists and creatives and even those guys want more software options from their iPads).
Lol, it takes some stones to tell iPad owners what they should or shouldn’t do with their device. Just ask @jerryrigeverything? Or for that matter iPad owners shouldn’t expect iPads to perform like a laptop? With that kind of thinking we’d all still be writing on stone tablets? Or are you will just accept that you need to buy two devices because some unscrupulous profit motivated manufacturer told you, you had to?
@@commentarytalk1446 they have a portable laptop like device it’s called a bloody laptop!! Or a surface or a Lenovo foldable or one of the plethora of other not any good at anything 2in1’s you can buy if that is you bag. iPads have unique niche that suits many people for many personal and professional reasons. If that’s not what you need don’t buy one.
@@williss9995 never told anyone how to use anything but they know what they are buying so when it doesn’t do what a laptop or desktop does then they shouldn’t be so bloody surprised.
It’s annoying how many commenters there are trying to justify why the iPad should be a limited piece of crap that barely does anything more than an iPhone or a tablet from 5+ years ago. I swear some of these people must have the productivity of a 8 year old… scanning documents, watching TH-cam and doodles, got it 👍, surely that’s worth it 1000+ dollars.
I just purchased a refurbished 5th generation Ipad Pro 12.9 and it's amazing. I did it mainly for the screen size when I play music on my keyboard. I also bought an 11 inch 4th generation. It too is amazing. I also have a Mini 6 and the classic M1 Macbook Air which is absolutely amazing. I see no reason to get the latest at this time. I've also got the 2021 Imac, which I got refurbished through Apple as well and an old Imac in the basement plus the Iphone 14 Plus. You might say I've become obsessed with Apple products but I realize that doesn't mean I have to always have the latest and greatest.
I upgraded from the M1 12.9” iPad. I haven’t yet purchased the keyboard but the weight makes it finally useable as a tablet, even as an e-reader. I’m already glad I upgraded.
I was thinking to upgrade my m1 ipad pro to one of these but after watching your honest and simple guide , i’m going to keep my current one. Thanks max tech👍
I bought the 11 inch M4 to replace a 10.5 inch pro. The display, the performance and the extra RAM (over the 10.5 inch) seem like a huge improvement to me. And,in my opinion, worth the price. Movie watching with black instead of gray is awesome. The ability to read small text in spreadsheets and other tabled data is a game changer. No more need to head over to my laptop for that stuff. For a guy who does network and security management this is a big deal. But maybe that’s just me?
>”now I can read smaller text” And this proves your comment is a lie. They have the same pixel density. There is no change, zero, in fidelity. Only in colour accuracy.
@@sigiligus Sigh. I see you don’t understand the importance of clarity and color contrast for those of us with eye issues. I can barely read small text on a white background. But the deep black of an OLED screen is much better even when compared to the LCD screens I use in dark mode at the office. But I’m happy for you that you got your dose of calling someone a liar on the internet. Maybe you’ll think a little harder before you do it next time.
I have tried the M2 and switched to the M4 ipad pro because yes the Oled (definitely a difference), but it is also noticeably lighter and thinner. I read lots of articles and find it easier to hold vs the other 12.9" devices (i'm female with small hands). I also find that it doesn't overheat as much as the M2.. but it still does get warm when doing art. The Ipad pro pencil haptic feedback for double tap is amazing when taking notes! Sometimes I accidentally double tap to erase without realizing it and now I can tell immediately when I switched back. I haven't tried the keyboard as I use the MBA for writing and other tasks.
I think the biggest upgrade decision is going from m2 11 inch to m4 11 inch. I made the reluctant switch and there are so many differences between these 2 models. Larger PIP options, more screen resolution, oled screen, larger base storage, lighter. The new 11 inch is 👌🏽. Would recommend the upgrade from any older 11 iPad Pro. I hope a reviewer dives into more of the little differences to the 11 inch from m2 to m4.
It really comes down to what the “do-it-all” definition for each user. For me, I am still using my old M1 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard to build my own TH-cam channel and run online business, apart from video editing which is done in my Mac Mini Pro (I won’t expect to use iPad Pro for advanced video editing). all other tasks (writing blog post, design thumbnail & lead magnet, checking email, messaging, business planning via productivity apps etc) are done with iPad Pro, plus content consumption, it is well-build and fast device, so in my case, iPad Pro can do it all. If my M1 iPad Pro is dead one day, I won’t hesitate to upgrade to newest iPad Pro.
I bought the M2 iPad a few weeks ago, but when I went to the Apple store the other day and saw the screen of the M4 iPad Pro 13 inch, I retuned the iPad Pro 2022 and bought the new one. I do a lot of reading, so for me this new iPad is perfect!!!
Thank you, for your honest opinion saying "do not buy his Apple device". The only exception that, I see would be for someone buying the smaller M-4, iPad Pro model. This is because, you now get to have all the same features as with the larger model (i.e. same high resolution display, etc.). Primarily iPad Pro models make the most since for persons who, like myself have an Apple desktop computer but, have no need for an Apple laptop computer. Yet, we still need something portable with a larger screen than, we have on our smart phones (smile...smile).
I bought the new 13 iPad Pro 512gb version as an upgrade for my 3rd gen iPad Pro 256gb and the difference is huge. My old unit was showing its age with battery performance and starting to struggle with certain apps.
I have the M4 iPad, I would say that I would only recommend the this version for anyone who is using it for professional work. Plus I decided to go with the Logitech Combo keyboard instead of the Magic Keyboard, it is way more better plus the trackpad is larger too. You do lose the extra USB port, but if you get a USB-C adapter, then this won’t be a problem.
Went from a m1 version 12.9 inch to a smaller m4 11 inch. Carrying this size iPad is insane for commute and note taking for nursing school. Went for the smaller size because it finally has the oled screen. The bigger version is so fatiguing after awhile
Perfectly well said. Every year apple is missing the opportunity to bring macOS to iPad Pro and give pro users what they want. Those who use iPads for media consumption, browsing the web and email can get the iPad Air or lower tier iPads. People don't want skinned down versions of Mac apps for iPad. There are those who want to continue the work they were doing on their desktop/MacBooks onto the iPad because of its form factor, input method, and portability. I understand iPad and MacBooks have two different native input methods. But iPads, through the use of a magic keyboard have the option for mouse input. Give the option for a dual boot between iPadOS and macOS on iPad Pro or option to select an OS when purchasing. People who want a MacBook will still buy a MacBook. People who want iPads for media consumption will still buy an iPad. I don't believe either would cut into each other's market.
Um, nope. I recommend buying the M4 version. The OLED screen won't overheat while drawing, and the battery life is much better. Also, the Magic Keyboard's feedback is similar to the MacBook Pro's. The iPad is lightweight and durable. However, the only thing I dislike is the inconsistency of the colour. The XDR display is not consistent with the iPad. The XDR display is different from the iPad now.
I think people are missing that for a lot of people we use iPads as our main computer. For me personally i have a separate work laptop and for my personal device my main uses are watching videos, surfing the web, playing games and reading. For that the iPad is the perfect form factor for lying in bed reading/watching tv and is a godsend when i travel with its portable size. I have been on an iPad Pro for 3 years now and have not missed not having a laptop this entire time.
For your user scene, a M1 iPad Pro is more than enough. M1 iPad Pro Apple refurbished is even cheaper than the new iPad Air . I feel like that is a better deal. Just double checked, the M1 iPad Pro 11’ is already removed from apple refurbished store… So they either notice that could harm new iPad Air sale or people found out that is a good deal and bought them till out of stock….
Exactly. I have a Mac Studio when I want to do real work - audio/video. iPad is for the rest. Going to get the M4 and trade in my 4 year old iPad Pro (which I have with the magic keyboard and LOVE it).
@@MaxTechOfficialI was on a 2018 iPad Pro and just upgraded to the new iPad Pro. Worth every penny just for the OLED screen and faster chip. Not to mention the bump in ram allowing for more apps to remain open without restarting.
I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inch (5th generation) and the battery is beginning to fail in that I have to recharge if using it all day. I like the iPad and use it more than my desk top, I use the desk top for word processing and basic spread sheets and gaming. If I could get the apps to word process etc I’d consider replacing the desktop with a new iPad and keyboard. It could be a real alternative to a laptop / desktop.
The faster something charges the faster the battery will wear out. Slow charge is better for battery life. I don’t understand why folks don’t get that. Just upgraded from a 2017 second gen iPad Pro that is still going strong. This new m4 11 inch version is even better. Small, powerful, light, super portable and simple to use. Gave my laptop to my son and just use this now and don’t regret it.
The impact is negligible and it’s not worth worrying about. As long as you are using chargers from reputable brands it doesn’t matter. Having battery health anxiety isn’t worth it.
I’m on the fence. I have the 13 inch M1 Pro and I love it. The only real reason I can think of to justify the newer M4 would be the functionality of the new apple Pen Pro. Which the new iPad Air can use as well. Problem is the new Air feels like a step down from an M1 Pro on the display side. For now I think I wait and see what happens on October. I have a hunch we may see some small details updated then that may affect my choice here
I just hit the new 13” pro, Magic Keyboard and pencil. I’m not a power user, using mainly for mafia consumption. But it like driving a really nice, expensive car with the biggest, fastest engine powering it. But not really going above the speed limit ever! But it drives really nice and smooth!
I had the same reaction with regard to how bright the screen was. I turn it down all the time especially in low light. I know it’s lighter but I don’t really feel that. I purchased the 13” 512 with WiFi and cellular. Bought the keyboard but not the pen. At $2048 I concur that it isn’t worth the upgrade from my pre-M1 iPad Pro 12.9. Unfortunately I already gave my daughter the previous one so no going back.
I mostly disagree with your opinion: 1 - iPad is not supposed to be a Mac, iPadOS is perfect for many uses which macOS isn't. They are not the same thing and I believe that's a good thing. In my point of view, they complement each other. 2 - Comparing an iPad Pro with a MacBook Air doesn't have any logic. MacBook Air doesn't have ProMotion or touch screen, it's a totally different device, for a different use case. 3 - I agree that if a user already has a M1 or M2 iPad Pro, this one is just a spec upgrade, so if you need the money, save it, don't buy a new iPad Pro now. 4 - If you don't have an iPad Pro or even a very recent iPad Air and want to buy an iPad Pro, this new one is the best choice if you can afford it, as it will have updates for longer than any of the other ones. I don't think saving 100-150 $/€ is a very good deal, if I'll lose 2 years of updates comparing to the newer model, which will guarantee longevity.
I have an iPad Pro 2017 and it is still a great machine… but this is the update a was waiting for. Maybe expensive but an expensive MacBook doesn’t really replace my desire for a good iPad. I have a MacBook Air and don’t use it even half the time that my iPad.
Very interesting, you make a compelling argument, 100% agreed on all your points. I would add that it could be interesting to watch the WWDC24 in June before pulling the trigger as we might see specific new iPad functionalities just for the M4
My thing with everyone saying “it’s just not meant for that” is we’re now getting diminishing returns with the iPad itself. No matter which upgrade you make CPU and RAM wise, it just can’t make use of it to make it worth the upgrade. So if you’re saying it’s not meant to do Pro shit, then we should stop giving it Pro hardware that it can’t really use. The fact that the model is even called Pro should tell you they aren’t just designing it for Netflix and email. Furthermore, Apple themselves have advertised that they’re trying to get it closer to a Mac. Last gen when they announced Side Manager they touted that “your next computer is not a computer.” Like he also said in this video, they have the patents to dual boot for an iPad. They just might not be there yet.
I disagree I have an ipad pro 2018 bought a ipad pro last year but returned after 2 days because nothing I couldn't do on the new model I could do on 2018. And its NOT a testament on how good they are because all they're good for are entertainment, browsing, mail. Most tablets have been doing that for years. IpadOS needs a major change otherwise in terms of real world use Ipad Pro is no different to a Ipad. So if you are in the market just makes sense to buy the base model.
I’m just keeping my M2 iPad Pro as I don’t the extra power plus, personal taste, I don’t like the landscape camera. I prefer the portrait orientation for the Face ID. A nitpick I have is I prefer to have my MacBook Pro to have a more powerful chip over my iPad Pro so if I upgrade my iPad Pro my MacBook Pro has to have a chip more powerful since my MacBook is what I use the most.
I currently have iPad Pro 2017 and planning on upgrading soon. I will use it for media consumption n note taking. For heavy use, I do have MBP M1 16”. If iPad Pro M4 11” and iPad Air M2 13” is in the same price range, which one should I choose?
I have a fully spec’s M4 iPad Pro and love it. Really like the nanotextured glass, virtually no glare. Granted, with the keyboard, pencil and tax, it cost $3300. So if that concerns you, save the money and pick something more reasonable. The cost of ownership of iPads is definitely getting too pricey for most would be buyers.
I use to have the M1 iPad Pro 11” since launch date and sell it this march. Was waiting to upgrade but being iPad less for almost two months now didn’t make it miss it at all. Granted it, the hardware is excellent, and so is the iPhone’s and MacBook’s. If apple doesn’t keep up with software, no matter the crazy specs not that much people is buying it.
@@southwestkinema9149 lol ofc they’ll be, what’s a single human being for a trillion dollar company? I was talking about the declined iPad sales. There wasn’t any issue with the previous hardware, however, they still hasn’t changed that much the software that utilizes that amazing brand new hardware. The iPad is better than ever, but a small niche of people is going to benefit from it. It may help with sales in the short term, but if WWDC is a fiasco again, won’t help on the mid term
@@southwestkinema9149 ofc they’ll be, I’m a single mankind vs a huge corporation. I’m talking about their efforts in boosting iPad sales. The hardware is amazing as usual, and may push them in the short term. But if WWDC happens to disappoint again, it won’t last that long in the mid term. Sales are declining and ofc the popular iPad is the regular one since is the only reasonably priced one, while the other ones have so much potential and yet so limited by their software.
Agree using a Surface pro because of this, I like to read things up close in the middle of multitasking....Surface pro is very good, but would prefer Ipad with dual Mac and ipad OS capability/ or some hybrid UI
For the target audience, it’s worth it- it’s not a Mac, it’s not supposed to be- why does everyone want Mac on iPad?! Just make iPad to Mac apps, but for those of us that main the iPad it’s worth it by far in so many ways, I love my m4 13inch in 1tb, it’s not just the ultimate iPad- but it’s the most versatile device apple has! A tablet, a laptop, a desktop, a smart tv hub, a portable gaming handheld, a home gaming console, a smart home hub, a portable studio, a drawing pad, a media entertainment system… like, it’s crazy awesome! What other apple device can do all of that?
Look at the back metal of the iPad from an angle. They all have rippled metal since they are so thin. It makes them look like they are dented straight out of the box.
Tell that to digital artists, illustrators, sculptors and video editors . The iPad Pro and Apple Pencil is a portable “Cintiq” (and video editor) you can bring with you
hey Max mmm ive sold my M1 12.9, and also my 11"M2 I pad pro to fund buying this new one , but now you've made me think , have I done the right thing . I'm not spending any extra money on the new set up of 1977 in uk pounds . only funding the cost with sales , I hope I'm doing the right thing , thanks Max a wonderful account, keep up the steller work
You mentioned that it can only charge up to 40watts, so it's not passing through more than that. But what about if you had an accessory plugged in? Could it passthrough up to the 60w then?
Absolutely agree with you. Upgrading from the 2018 model to the M4 iPad Pro is not worth it. That’s why I won’t be upgrading. It’s just not worth the money. I already spent a lot of money not just on the iPad, but also the keyboard and Apple Pencil. And if I want to upgrade to M4 iPad Pro, means not just buying the iPad itself, but having to spend even more money for the same accessories that only offers a small upgrade like an extra row of function keys and a squeeze gesture, because it’s only compatible with this new device. All the apps including games on the App Store are just mobile apps optimised for the iPhone and carry over to the iPad to take advantage of its bigger screen real estate. Designing or editing on mobile apps will never compete with desktop level apps that offers more advanced tools and features. People say oh you can do this on the m4 iPad Pro, play games, use lightroom, I’m like “you can do that on the 2018 iPad Pro as well, what’s the difference? No difference”. From a cost effective point of view, it’s not worth upgrading unless you’re rich and want the latest and greatest. Even if you upgrade, the experience will still be the same. The only time I will think of upgrading is if my iPad gets destroyed in an accident or if Apple allows MacOS to take advantage of its M4 chip. But I also agree, that probably will never happen.
@@gatesroyale My 2014 macs are all still running. I don't use them personally because I am a software engineer and time and money but I gave my devices to my family/kids and they are still chugging along.
I use my iPad as my main device and my MacBook is just an accessory. I'm more wondering when MacBooks will finally get a touchscreen and when the display can finally be separated from the keyboard. Why is macOS so cumbersome and not as intuitive as iPadOS? It's all a matter of perspective and therefore hard to judge where the middle ground is. Actually, nothing has changed with the MacBooks since the M1 devices.
I have iPad Pro 12.9’ with Apple Pencil and Apple Magic Keyboard. And like previous years the iPadOS is limiting the functionality of the iPad. Even the Final Cut Pro for iPad still limited compared to Mac version. Still there is no image stabilisation and no key framing in colouring or special effects. Not going to upgrade to new iPad Pro till Apple fixes iPadOS. Still waiting for disk Utility version for iPadOS so I can repair or format drives which you cannot do on the iPad.
Honestly, I would've preferred a surface pro like stand and it be a little thicker. For artists, It could make sense to go with the m2 ipad pro so you can use the new apple pencil pro with it. The hover is nice, but the roll is my most wanted feature in addition to the 8/16 gb ram for more layers. I've been hitting the layer cap pretty hard with my 2018 11in pro.
I’m upgrading from a gen 1 pro to the M4 purely for the display. I have a weird issue with my eyes that means I can’t use LED displays without my eyes feeling like they are on fire. Something to do with PWM. I’ve been waiting for the OLED display for years so it’s worth the money (just) for me
What is the point of the Magic Keyboard. It wastes too much space at the top. Wouldn’t it be better if it was just a hinged keyboard? The floating thing is pointless.
What is the point of putting a powerful desktop class processor if all people are doing on the iPad is watching videos, browsing websites and social media? The A10X Fusion has enough performance for most of what the iPad Pro is used for. I thought when Apple put the M1 in an iPad Pro that they would update the software to take advantage of the performance.
Thats exactly my point. Its such a waste of power, basically apple wants to sell more products using same cpu. Imagine one day iphone, ipad, and macbook all have the same cpu. It will so much cost effective for apple.
@@SimplyCompute if an iPhone only needs 2 performance cores and you give it the same chip as a MacBook that has 4 performance cores, there is no way that will be cost effective. Those 2 extra core add a cost. What apple are doing is designing performance efficiency cores that can be used in the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook.
I have an IPad PRO 11.9 (sorry IPad 302.26 now US is going metric), I use it mostly in a professional capacity as a tool for sketching, Sketchbook, Clip Studio and Procreate. Would I buy a new one with an OLED display, probably not since everything I read points to OLEDs burning in and deteriorating with static images like toolbars and white backgrounds. Ironically the Apple Air now seems like the best choice as a professional working tool and the Apple Pro better suited for home use, listening to music, watching videos and playing games where the OLED screen will be fine.
Agree with this - iPad OS just functionally is still limiting. So much power for something that, in essence, runs fine on my A10X 10.5” Pro from 2017 still.
I do not want MacOS on an iPad I would however like true multitasking a file system on par With the One in macOS and multiple user Account but everything must be possible to do witout the use of a keyboard and a mouse.
Im thinkin about upgrading my 11 inch iPad Pro M1 to a 11 inch iPad Pro M4 but im not so sure yet my 11 inch iPad Pro M1 is still good to use all i do most of the time on my 11 inch iPad Pro M1 is watching movies tv show and TH-cam video and surf the internet that’s all i do with my 11 inch iPad Pro M1
Agree 100%, and I’m keeping my M2 11” Pro. Better speakers, and still have my ultrawide camera and five studio mics instead of four. Apple skimped on the details for such an expensive iPad Pro. Too bad.
The one with the M4 has better screen (you see it every day). has a better battery (through the better screen). It's faster and more future proof. It's has ray tracing for 3D rendering and gaming. 20% better thermal performance due to better passive cooling under heavy load. It has around 23 % faster NPU for AI as the m2. And a faster memory bandwidth so the AI processing power will be even faster with CPU+GPU+NPU, this is important for running local models (for OS features and app features, e.g. Draw Things app). What will be your usage/workflows for the next 7 years? Think about it. You can also buy an older one and then rebuy in 3-5 years.
@MaxTechOfficial I have a question. If the iPad OLED displays need 2 layers (Tandem OLED) to reach 1000 nits for the entire screen, how does the iPhone OLED displays, or some other smartphone displays for that matter manage to reach even more than 1000 nits with just a single layer, regular OLED panel? Some brands like Xiaomi even have smartphones, that reach more than 2000 nits of HDR brightness. Is this only because of the reason that the iPad displays are massive compared to a smartphone display? Or are there any other factors at play?
Well dang, I just ordered the M4 13inch 1tb, and now I feel I flushed my money down the drain. It just felt so much better than my 4th gen air, when I was handling it at the store.
I use my 13" iPad Pro M4 after trading in my MacBook Air M2 and old iPad Pro M1. I don't really miss a beat, not sure why there is so much hate. Multi-tasking is not as good but what were you literally doing with multi-tasking on a MacBook Air sized screen anyways?
M1 iPad Pro FTW, the performance is plenty for the device that it is. Tough pill to swallow to have to also buy a new keyboard and pencil as well, I’ll use a MBP for any other task due to the OS.
I wanted to get the M4 13” Pro with Magic Keyboard but the rational side of my brain says hold onto my 2018 12.9” Pro with Folio Keyboard which is 200g lighter than the new combo and serves me very well. The OLED display is a big pull but not worth the money.
I’m guessing here, but I think the unused memory will be used to store all the assets needed for the desktop version of iPadOS when docked. A desktop saved memory state.
They can’t run MacOs because it would be a weird experience when you switch it to handheld. It can’t just boot from one OS to another. What they need is to create a completely new OS that support both touch and mouse, which is quite a hard task.
You have a choice of 2 keyboards. I know, I bought the M4 Pro 13. I didn’t like the Magic Keyboard for portability and protection. The Logitech is not sturdy on your lap and try finding one. I was blown away that the New IPAD PRO 13 is not compatible with older Bluetooth Keyboards. For these reasons I am returning! Over $1,800? Seriously
I have the 13 and it's good if you use it stationary in your bed or as a screen, however if you intend to actually use the tablet to read etc on a sofa I'd recommend the 11 because the 13 is very hard to hold in your hands vertically. In terms of cellular it's up to you. I got the non-cellular and it's fine. For any work I might do in a coffee shop or outside I'd just connect to my phone so it wasn't a big deal for me. You can't really use it as a phone anyway, I would consider if the messages is a deal breaker for you or not.
Depends if you’re gonna use it with Magic Keyboard you can go either way but if you want to use it also to hold in hand then the 11 might be a better option
@@TechiesDemolitions Yeah, I want to get an iPad Pro for studies, note taking, drawings with the Apple pencil, and watching YT videos. However, for the computer I want a Mac Studio or MacBook Pro. So for that use case which size would you choose? And is cellular worth it if I may take it outside sometimes, or WiFi hotspot is good enough?
I have a 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9 and I’ve barely ever used it. It’s unwieldy and if I’m mostly using it in keyboard mode… I rather use my MacBook Pro 14” with the M1 Pro. I purchased a iPad Mini off facebook marketplace place that has been a far better companion device alongside my phone. The iPad was designed to be a companion device not a straight up replacement which it still can’t be. I’m allured to the new 13” with all the hype but I’ve been waiting for a 11” pro with oled and they finally delivered. That with a folio might be my mini replacement as I don’t anticipate they’ll add 120hz and oled to the mini unfortunately. Everything I have has a high refresh now so the mini is a tad “disconnected” from the rest of my other device experiences.
We'll have to see WWDC releases to really justify upgrading from an older iPad. OLED looks good but I don't have HDR content to take advantage of. Liquid Retina is still solid.
In the UK it’s only £50 more expensive than the m2 12.9 in retail price so it’s actually better value for the price at launch (tandem oled). Most apple products last year got the price hike due to gbp dropping in value and the M2 was not worth the extra cost over the m1 for just apple pencil hover. 11 inch also got an improvement in screen technology after 7 years (from the 10.5” ipad pro) costing 999 instead of 899 compared to last year’s m2
I'd be amazed if they announce MacOS support for the iPad at WWDC. It would be great if it could switch like Samsung Dex. That's the only justification for buying an m4 over any of the other iPads released over the past 4 years in my opinion.
THIS is the iPad you should buy right now ➡ geni.us/BUjn3AU
depends, if you don't need the extra 128gb of storage the new M2 air is only $10 more.
Hmm... M2 has better graphics performance... perhaps base model current gen with 128 at the same price is better. Better front camera placement and apple pencil hover. Just saying...
When are you going to make a new video about the Snapdragon X Elite chips (now that they're out) and maybe compare the iPad M4 with the Microsoft Surface Pro 11th gen?
iPad m4 had best hardware but only bottle neck is iPados .
Just got the iPad 10th gen for £330 and it’s ridiculous how good it is
I just got mine too, it's crazy good for the price. I've also ordered the magic keyboard folio for 100 dollars!
Does the non-laminated display bother you?
I had the iPad 9 and even that had a fantastic screen. Just because there are better options, doesn't mean it's bad.@@waqarhaider2226
Unbeatable value really. I was looking at the 13" Pro 512GB with cellular, but it's £1699, ouch! - I won an older one on eBay, same specs but M1 cpu (already way overkill) for £570, that's 1/3 the price and still has the incredible miniLED ProRes display.
Should I upgrade from the 9th gen only WiFi
I just upgraded from iPad Mini 6 to iPad 11 M4. It is fantastic, the screen quality is superb and it is fast.
Yeap even with that amount of power in ipad m4 you will be doing the work which you were doing in ipad mini, just in a bigger screen.
@@SimplyComputein mini you don’t have keyboard option, so no.
Can u tell me upto how many years your previous iPad battery lasts? Or giving a decent battery backup?

I use an iPad daily with some Microsoft apps and I hardly ever touch my MacBook anymore. Unless you are doing something that specifically needs different hardware or software not on the iPad , the iPad really does do it all.
I love iPads but two things we can all agree on
1. If it’s going to be a pro device, it needs pro features to do pro things… like a professional.
2. Even if it doesn’t get macOS, it still needs an operating system that has more functionality than the iPad currently offers
I have an iPad Pro M2 and I love it for what it can do but I consistently find myself desiring more power user features.
Then get a mac
@@yujinm4161 ipadOS has plenty of mac functions. Also, look into surface.
Let’s see what they come up with at the next event .
They must be feeling the overwhelming desire from most that the operating system needs and overhaul .
I use the Apple Pencil for editing photos for hours every day. Apple makes the right product for me.
It’s a touch device first. It can’t run MacOS. They need a specific OS for this device that will support both touch and mouse, that won’t bottleneck its power, while still providing a tablet like experience. As a UX designer, that’s a problem you don’t wanna solve.
I love watching this from my 11” M4. Coming from M1, I’d say I can really detect the brilliance of OLED compared to LCD.
1 TB iPad 11 Pro, M4, Keyboard and pencil. Got them all after turning in my ipad pro 2018. Waited for this and satisfied.
For the first time, I bought the 1TB ipad. The extra storage works really well for my work flow. It’s worth it if you can make money using it.

Upgrading from iPad Air 2 to the m4 iPad 11 inch was such a major upgrade for me😊
I upgraded from the M1 12.9” iPad. I haven’t yet purchased the keyboard but the weight makes it finally useable as a tablet, even as an e-reader. I’m already glad I upgraded.
I upgraded from iPad Air first gen. (2014) to 11'' M4 - yeah I think it was time, it is truly amazing 😀
>”now I can read smaller text”
And this proves your comment is a lie.
I watched this video on my M1 12.9 iPad Pro and definitely it will be my tablet for a least the next 4 or 5 years.
Yeah I love my M4 iPad Pro, it’s my first one so I won’t be upgrading for a loooong time lol
Same. I upgraded from the base M2 11” to M4 11”, it’s worth it! Gonna keep it for the next 6 years.
I got the M4 iPad Pro 13 inch with Magic Keyboard having upgraded from a 12.9 inch M1 iPad pr also with Magic Keyboard. I have no regrets!
Hi
Is it really lighter in hands thAN your previous M1? Do you really feel it?
@@Erik-oy7bl yes.
It’s $100 off at Micro Center. There’s one near me. People said Best Buy and Apple price matched it
Thank you, for your honest opinion saying "do not buy his Apple device".
I have been on an iPad Pro for 3 years now and have not missed not having a laptop this entire time.
iPad mini 6 is the best for you then
It’s perfect for that, but let me ask you this: did you buy a crazy expensive M4 for your use? Or stuck with the iPad you have?
Can you point out specific cases where you needed to switch to the Macbook to complete a task?
I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inch (5th generation) and the battery is beginning to fail in that I have to recharge if using it all day. I like the iPad and use it more than my desk top, I use the desk top for word processing and basic spread sheets and gaming. If I could get the apps to word process etc I’d consider replacing the desktop with a new iPad and keyboard. It could be a real alternative to a laptop / desktop.
Hey, did we have access to the 16gb or ram on the m2 model? I would love to know that.

I have a hunch we may see some small details updated then that may affect my choice here
Just keep the m1
Kept my M1 ipad pro 12.9" too. so few reasons to upgrade. it has to be just a luxury purchase than a necessity replacement/
I mostly disagree with your opinion:
1 - iPad is not supposed to be a Mac, iPadOS is perfect for many uses which macOS isn't.
@@Jeannemarre I also believe that’s a possibility. M4 is too big of a jump for Apple not to use it somehow for their advantage.

I think with iPads youre only ever supposed to upgrade like every decade because they really do hold up that long.

I upgrade my ipad pro every time a new model is released. I need the super fast processing for watching Netflix and TH-cam.
@@EnochGitongaKimathi it will be. It will need a lot less investment on a different chip production.
Too bad.
Any throttling? I am wondering how is heating management implemented.
I’m using the iPad Pro 10” 2017 2nd generation! And I’m definitely going to upgrade but I don’t know if I should buy the M2 2022 gen 6 or the new M4 ?
Probably because it’s way smaller so the energy can concentrate more in those 6 inch displays.
Well dang, I just ordered the M4 13inch 1tb, and now I feel I flushed my money down the drain. It just felt so much better than my 4th gen air, when I was handling it at the store.
Extremely disappointed this year. Less bass, smaller battery. Can’t enjoy the “upgrades” unless you purchase a 1TB or higher. Pass
I’m upgrading from my first generation iPad Pro
Does the M4 mean all Apple products will have tandem OLED displays going forward?
I wanted to get the M4 13” Pro with Magic Keyboard but the rational side of my brain says hold onto my 2018 12.9” Pro with Folio Keyboard which is 200g lighter than the new combo and serves me very well. The OLED display is a big pull but not worth the money.
my current ipad is the first one released, should i upgrade?
I have the first generation as well I had for 9 years. I’lm going to buy a new for Oled display only
I’m guessing here, but I think the unused memory will be used to store all the assets needed for the desktop version of iPadOS when docked. A desktop saved memory state.
They can’t run MacOs because it would be a weird experience when you switch it to handheld. It can’t just boot from one OS to another. What they need is to create a completely new OS that support both touch and mouse, which is quite a hard task.
worthy upgrade from the 2020 11” ?
I got the m4 13in cuz I’m blind and the display was worth it for but I do agree most people don’t need it
😂😂😂😂
If the battery life is only 6-7 hours now, what would happen with full Mac OS ?
You have a choice of 2 keyboards. I know, I bought the M4 Pro 13. I didn’t like the Magic Keyboard for portability and protection. The Logitech is not sturdy on your lap and try finding one. I was blown away that the New IPAD PRO 13 is not compatible with older Bluetooth Keyboards. For these reasons I am returning! Over $1,800? Seriously
Should I upgrade to 11 or 13 M4 iPad Pro? Currently have the 11 iPad Pro from 2018 without cellular. Also, is the cellular edition worth it?
The ipad pro 11-inch does not have mini LED display. So yes, the new display of the 2024 11-inch is worth it.
Its a good upgrade
Why nobody mentioned the ARMv9 in the M4. Thats a big deal!
How is the white keyboard holding up so far?
