I have been leaving this comment for years but I guess I’m never early enough to get noticed: Can we please upvote this so the guys at Max Tech see that the term “binned” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the “cut down” version of a chip? To “bin” simply means “to sort”. Even golden samples, best of the best, 0-defect chips are “binned” - they are simply binned into a group of “perfect chips.” All chips are “binned” and the term doesn’t imply lesser performance. Intel’s “KS” and “extreme edition” chips, for example, are in fact, highly binned chips because they are relatively rare due to them exhibiting performance characteristics beyond the targeted goal.
Edit: because I value providing solutions as opposed to just criticizing and pointing out problems, my suggestion for Max Tech is please use the term "cut-down chip" instead of "binned chip".
(as always, for everything, don’t take my word for it - please verify this info yourself)

While your argument is good the internet sees it differently. It’s so much simpler to just say binned and unbinned. For technical people this is a misnomer, but for the average joe this makes sense.

    14:19 brother, 48% vs 46% isn’t simply “2% more” when the former is a 100 Whr battery and the latter is a 72.4 Whr battery. That’s actually a substantial difference. Here’s what I mean: 46% of 72.4 Whr = 33.3 Whr but 48% of 100 Whr = 48 Whr. Thats 44% more.

But what counts on the real world is the remaining battery time and not the Whr number. If one device has 46% and the other 48% it means that they have very similar time left running on battery.

I threw in some resolve projects (RAW and LUTs), big Photoshop files, an Unreal Engine 5 project (with everything set to Medium) and it managed fine. No stutter, minimal fan noise. I carry around the 16” all the time. With the right backpack I find the 16” much more portable than the 13” MacBook Air because when I take the 16” I can actually complete my work with the larger screen whereas with the 13” Air the small screen size means so much more switching context and back and forth so I get less done. It feels weird to say that the 16 MBP is more portable than the 13 MBA but in realworld use I carry my 16 everywhere and the 13 stays at home so it can be plugged into external screens.
Wish my work would allow me to use my 16 instead of their 13 MBA.

That’s fine, but then are you backing up what’s stored on an external drive.. onto another external drive? Isn’t that super tedious? Do you plug both drives into the Mac at the same time and manually make 2 copies of everything? Or do most pay for cloud storage and use that as a backup to the external drive? Internal and external drives do fail.. so again, how are y’all backing up years worth of files?

I still believed that the Base M4 model should be the best for over 90% of the users. the M4 Pro model indeed shrink the power gap between various Pro models and Max models across previous generations, however the base M4 model already is a great powerhouse sufficient for most people. And you get the same chassis, same QD-miniLED display upgrade, same sound quality, same I/O support and mostly important, MUCH MORE BATTERY LIFE with much lower amazing price!

14:19 Wait, wait, that battery performance ....
You are comparing 46% (of 72.4kWh battery) to 48% (of 99.6kWh battery) like it was the same scale?!
    This means 14" used 54% of 72.4kWh = 39.1kWh for the same work where 16" used 52% of that 99.6kWh = 51.8kWh.
39.1kWh vs 51.8kWh, that is 12.7kWh difference. Seems like batteries would last very close, in time.
