    I have been leaving this comment for years but I guess I’m never early enough to get noticed: Can we please upvote this so the guys at Max Tech see that the term “binned” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the “cut down” version of a chip? To “bin” simply means “to sort”. Even golden samples, best of the best, 0-defect chips are “binned” - they are simply binned into a group of “perfect chips.” All chips are “binned” and the term doesn’t imply lesser performance. Intel’s “KS” and “extreme edition” chips, for example, are in fact, highly binned chips because they are relatively rare due to them exhibiting performance characteristics beyond the targeted goal.
    Edit: because I value providing solutions as opposed to just criticizing and pointing out problems, my suggestion for Max Tech is please use the term "cut-down chip" instead of "binned chip".
    (as always, for everything, don’t take my word for it - please verify this info yourself)

      While your argument is good the internet sees it differently. It’s so much simpler to just say binned and unbinned. For technical people this is a misnomer, but for the average joe this makes sense.

    • @christopherpilch6688
      @christopherpilch6688 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This is very pedantic. A full chip is indeed "binned" as you say. You aren't wrong. But people have colloquially used "binned" for chips that are not full die for years. You often here "Its the full GK104 die" or "Its a binned down version of the GK104 die". I suppose they usually use "binned down" instead of "binned", but its not a big deal.

    • @pkennethv
      @pkennethv หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@christopherpilch6688 I like the term "binned down." I also like the term "top bin". Because those terms inform the reader of whether it's an exceptionally good or poor performer.
      My gripe when saying "binned chip" is I can't tell (without additional contextual clues) whether it's an exceptionally good or poor performing sample of a chip.
      I don't have a problem with slang in general. What I have an issue with is when it creates ambiguity.
      The problem this creates is many young people who first get their feet wet in tech through the "window" of Apple products (pun intended), when expanding beyond the Apple garden, will be confused by the incorrect understanding they've developed of "binning." Outside of the Apple world, a highly binned chip can be something that is extremely desirable and sought after.
      I personally know of numerous people IRL who have come to the misunderstanding that a binned chip is ALWAYS a less performing, or less desirable chip.

    14:19 brother, 48% vs 46% isn’t simply “2% more” when the former is a 100 Whr battery and the latter is a 72.4 Whr battery. That’s actually a substantial difference. Here’s what I mean: 46% of 72.4 Whr = 33.3 Whr but 48% of 100 Whr = 48 Whr. Thats 44% more.

    Thanks for making these vids. It would be really good to see the 12 core vs. 14 core both in 14” variants go up against each other. Would get a way better understanding of performance vs. efficiency, as well as thermal and noise profiles. You can’t really just linearly extrapolate these metrics to compare, so not really that accurate a comparison. I’m curious what you guys do for backing up files in case of an internal or external drive failure. Many suggest not paying for internal storage and using external. That’s fine, but then are you backing up what’s stored on an external drive.. onto another external drive? Isn’t that super tedious? Do you plug both drives into the Mac at the same time and manually make 2 copies of everything? Or do most pay for cloud storage and use that as a backup to the external drive? Internal and external drives do fail.. so again, how are y’all backing up years worth of files?
