Thanks and that's perfect. I just really wonder why people buy the M4 pro model if they are not digital artists. I think what you did is smart for sure. Save the money.
@@craigneidel Because they want the best (just because it is the best and surely because they want OLED). But i am so agree. All this power is useless for 95% of people.
@@happyshadowI have a feeling…you will be wrong. Apples had incredible iPads since the M1 chips version came out and they still have a stupid operating system Apple has shown they do not want to compete against their Mac’s
@@happyshadow We've all had the feeling every year since the Pro line began. I always purchased Pro, and eventually said "enough". Like other creators have said "Don't purchase something for what it might do in the future, buy it for what it does now".
Maybe but I am just saying why pay extra when the OS has become limited factor. Get what is right for you and I'm just helping people who do not need an m4 in an iPad. Overkill for most on ipadOS.
@@craigneidel Why an Ipad? Have an old one, am not impressed. Laptop computer so much better. Now that Snapdragon X elite has hit the markets, am waiting to see what the souped up versions will bring us. With one TB of storage, the asus snapdragon x elite costs half a MacBook price. About time, Orange Works, Inc. of Silicon Valley gets some real competition. How do u feel about that? 😎😎
I just got one. I like it too. I need power (RAM) for photo editing. But it seems to drain battery power faster than I expected. And short videos on Instagram freeze up just like on my 2nd. Gen iPad Pro. Hoping I just need a new router that’ll fix that.
My M4 iPad replaced my desktop. Very happy with it and the hardware is incredible. The OS works for me and I'm hoping the limitations will ease themselves out over time, but I have no interest in a MacBook again until they get OLED panels.
I agree, 100%! Another option is iPad Mini 6 + 13" MBA. I love the portability of the iPad Mini and it does everything I need. It's the perfect tablet for me as I travel for work.
Yeah, it's your money and if you like it then keep it. Everybody is different and I was just talking that most people don't need it but some will want it. That's fine.
@@erwin734 No, the iPad Air M2 is too expensive, for less money you can buy an even better iPad Pro 12.9 M2 that has a 120Hz display and a Thunderbolt 4 port.
@@craigneidel I can’t speak for this person, but I’m also an artist and I can tell you for me. It is portability, wait and the lack of a keyboard in my way I have Dell XPS 15 touch which is also an excellent machine, but it’s heavy af and that keyboard drives me bonkers because I can’t put it flat. Like the old Zen flip books, which were half tablet have computer and a good idea but had no longevity. I guess it all depends on the way you like to work.
Some of those people returning the iPad Pro M4 are TH-camrs who had no intention of keeping them in the first place and just wanted to knock out content like "M4 iPad Pro unboxed", "Why I bought the M4 iPad Pro", "I used the M4 iPad Pro for a week and here's what happened", "Why it won't replace my MacBook Pro", "I am returning my M4 iPad Pro".
@@craigneidelI’ve personally seen hundreds of such videos on my feed. I’m gonna assume there are many more, possibly thousands. I don’t think that’s an insignificant amount of their sales. Not a majority of course, but I think this might be something on Apple’s radar.
I’m a painter and sculptor and I bought it to paint on. I don’t own a good computer, or a good display, so for people like me specifically it was a great choice, there’s a lot of used ones around at staggering discounts too. It’s a great machine if you’re SERIOUS about art and want to take a first step towards digital stuff
I had a iPad Air M1, never used it other than viewing the web, TH-cam and using as a Kindle reader. Sold it back to Best Buy for $320 after using it for two years, and bought the yellow iPad Gen 10 for $350, Cost me $30 for a new system with a new 1 year warranty. Would never be able to justify the M4 based on my humble usage.
I picked up the M1 Air 5 when it went on sale for $399 after the new tablets released. Overkill for my humble usage too but I couldn't resist the sale price.
Yeah funny I have yellow one too. Thought it looked nice and it's more power then I need. I usually upgrade and trade old one in every three years. Thanks.
I dont mean to judge and i know its non of my business with what you do with your money, but in all honesty, seriously?? You downgraded your ipad air 5 for an ipad 10th gen, i dont mean ti be disrespectful but that is absolutely the worst decision anyone can make when it comes to ipads, you not only cut off potential years more of OS updates, you also downgraded when it comes to performance, yes ik it doesnt make a difference now, but in the long term, the better performance of the M1 on the Air, will hold up way better in the long term compared to the A14 bionic of the 10th gen, and not to mention you sold your Air 5 at a loss and bought the 10th gen for $30 more which is just stupid (no disrespect intended)
I use the iPad 10th gen daily for work and it has never let me down and I notice with the new updates it’s getting better. I don’t regret my purchase after a year
Just got the 11 inch M4 iPad Pro 256GB model. One store got one in return and it was sold with full warranty in the original box and condition is as new. Saved me 220$ and still got what is basically a new device with full warranty.
I’m got the m2 air 11” at $600 with the pencil as part of the student discount. I had the pro added to my cart but realised I don’t have and will not have the use case for that in the next 2-3 years so the air it is. Thanks for knocking some sense into us! TH-camrs in general have the tendency to show/use the best and we often forget that we are not all video/photo editors, animators or artists. All of whom can still use the M2 Air. The only worthy upgrade is the oled display which is not worth the $400.
I come from iPad Air 2 and upgrade with M4 , for me it’s expensive, the only thing I keep it is because Best Buy have promotion of 24 months no interest, I only use it for construction work and normal things around the house. Tomorrow is my last day to be able to return, do you think I should do it?
My family surprised me with a 10th Gen iPad Pro 13" in 2018, and I'm still using it today, with no need to upgrade. It does everything I use an iPad for with no stuttering or slowdown. It's perfect and has lasted just fine. The battery health is dropping, but not by much!
Hi Craig, I want an Ipad mostly for reading alone. I actually compared the new pro to the previous air models and was amazed at how easy it was on my eyes when reading on the new pro especially when slowly scrolling. Is this something you have experienced or heard from others? Is this a valid factor for spending a lot more?
It depends on if you value it enough I guess. I myself am amazed that people spend all that money on the Pros but I'm just curious on what makes them buy them. Thanks for sharing.
Even artists do not require the M4 iPad, which I upgraded from the M1 to M4 because it was slowing down and overheating slightly with large vector files. In my opinion, the M4 is excessive for that purpose. I would have opted for the M2 instead, if it had been more affordable. In Germany, the price difference between the M4 and M2 is approximately 30 euros, which is equivalent to 40 US dollars. If the M2 were available at a lower price point than the M4, I would have considered it. However, the price difference between the two in Germany, with the same storage capacity and other features, is approximately 30 euros, which is equivalent to approximately 40 US dollars.
I just returned mine iPad Pro 13’ M4 chip yesterday, it is the best hardware ever and super fast but my older IPad Pro with 12Z chip does all the same things a couple of seconds slower and the screen ins’t as nice but that’s it. For $ 1800 after buying the new accessories for me ins’t worth it.
For sure. Save your money. Yes the M4 is nice but it does almost the exact same thing as your device maybe just a bit faster. I think that's a good choice you made.
100% - I got my 13” M3 MacBook Air 16/512 ($1,400 at launch on Apple Education store + great Apple trade-in deal) for ‘real computer’ tasks, and this iPad 10th gen 256gb ($350 new on Marketplace) with the Magic Keyboard Folio ($170 new on eBay) for my Netflix/Max streaming, on-the-go Excel tasks, work email app, and video calls. Great combo with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I canceled my M4 iPad Pro 11 inch with Magic Keyboard and Pencil 2.0 order, saved like $800, and can’t be happier 🤣 Apple makes too good of a regular tablet to even look at Pro for a regular user!
The air is nice. My point in the video is for most people the 10th Gen is all they need but of course there are people who just like an upgrade. Thanks for watching.
I've just bought one too, it arrives tomorrow, 13in 256gb. Upgrading from my iPad Air 3rd gen. I'm an artist and wanted that bit of extra screen space and oomph 😊 I'm donating my IA 3 to the Mrs.
I got the new iPad Pro 11 inch. I had a M1 12.9 inch iPad but it was so cumbersom and awkward for it being a portable device. I couldn’t use it in my lap nor hold it for long periods without fatigue. The new 11 inch with the oled is amazing. Probably the last iPad I’ll keep until 7 years from now. That 10th generation got me very concerned with the workload the thing can do
Maybe but if you connect to a keyboard it's heavier then some MacBooks so portability isn't a factor with a keyboard. Do you do digital work like art work etc.? Just curious.
great video first time viewer here Makes great sense to me but question ipad pro m1 12.9 2tb or ipad m4 11 256 they both are the same price which one would u get ?
This is a great take on the current Apple situation. I really needed to hear this. I did upgrade as a trade-in from M1 Macbook Air to M3, and also decided to keep my iPad 10th Gen with 256GB. You are so correct in your view for the great majority of people. They want the new Pencil Pro but don't stop to really think about how often they actually really used the previous, same reason why I didn't go with the S24 Ultra, and went with the S24 Plus instead, I never used the S-Pen on my old Note devices. Defintely see the iPad Pro for professional artist or business people, but not so much for everyone else.
Yes, I rarely use an iPad over my MacBook so for me paying over $1000 for an iPad is insane. There are people who draw and do other things that can justify the cost but I'm not one of them until it comes out with a real OS that will justify the power.
Sadly I agree 💯% with this take. I was due for an upgrade and was waiting to pull the trigger on an M4 after WWDC. I was hoping for Xcode or even macOS mode. Got nothing. So I bought nothing. Apple is fumbling the bag with the iPad Pro line. Snapdragon X Elite is coming…
Yeah, not much came of the iPadOS keynote. The snapdragon seems to have it's own issues but I still think the MacBook is the best choice for series work unless you are a digital artist that needs an iPad for specific things.
One of the main reasons iPad users love it, and keep springing for the 'latest' expensive model is - it's a touch screen device. It just feels great to navigate the screen by direct touch and finger contact, and you get very used to tapping on the screen to open apps, move windows, etc. If Apple ever makes MacBooks, Air or Pro, with touch-screens, the iPad is toast, because it would be the best of both worlds. The more robust file-based MacOS with the screen touch-navigation of an iPad. Of course, they probably won't do that anytime soon because the iPad is a big cash cow and they would effectively be destroying an entire income line. Till then, Craig's recommendation of an older iPad combined with a MacBook Air for less than the new iPad alone, is sheer genius. Best of both worlds. Only prob, you now have two devices to schlep around if you want the benefits of both in any given scenario.
Thanks for posting. It comes down to individual taste on the touch since I actually don't like to touch the screens unless I'm using it for simple quick things. When I video edit for example I see no benefit in touching a screen. But everybody is different and I know some like that better then me. I just feel for most users they don't need a iPad Pro unless they do specific things like Art work etc. that needs that level of an iPad. Most people I personally know (about 10 people) just watch movies or browse the web on their iPads and the 10th gen is more then enough for that.
@@craigneidel _"It comes down to individual taste on the touch"_ Yes, I've always had a desktop (currently Mac Studio and 32" screen) and an iPad, never a MacBook, because I personally don't like moving a cursor around with a little trackpad. It feels so wanky to me compared to moving my Magic Mouse/cursor across a big screen.Everything for which I need full MacOS I can do on my desktop. Away from home, touching/swiping the full screen of an iPad feels much more natural than cumbersome finger/cursor movement on a small trackpad. But I understand, laptops were ubiquitous before iPads were even launched, so people got used to the trackpad/cursor thing.
I got my iPad Pro M4 11 inch and returned it three times because of the terrible battery life. Every unit I had lasted between six to eight hours on a single charge. When I returned the third one, I decided to wait for the new iOS 18, hoping that Apple will address the battery issue. I used it exclusively for TH-cam, Netflix, and browsing the Internet.
Nice, but just curios on why the 10th gen didn't work. I think the Air is nice but just want to see why people choose that over the 10th gen etc. (besides maybe Ai in the future). Thanks for watching.
I just got the same. Coming from a iPad a12 so should be a good improvement.

I just want an ipad that supports all the apple pencil features for drawing in procreate - maybe do some sculpting in Zbrush. What's the difference between air and pro versions of iPad for this?
I couldn’t agree with you more, I upgraded my 1st gen iPad Pro and my wife’s Air 2 both to the new iPad 10th gen we actually got ours last November for 1/2 off with a free year of 5G cellular service, so for $300 each I thought it was a heck of a deal and both me and my wife couldn’t be happier with our new 10th gen’s, they are snappy, and have done everything we have wanted with them, I play call of duty on mine with highest graphics settings and no issues at all, movies look great too, the speakers are decent, and the cameras are really good too, the battery life is amazing, plus I love the colors too we got the blue ones, we also both have the Apple Pencil USB-C which works really nice with it too, I don’t understand the hate that most reviewers and TH-camr’s give the 10th gen, it is a great iPad, and is decent quality and a great media consumption device but also can be a good dependable work horse as well
I agree with you for sure. I have never needed more power so I'm just curious on why people spend the money on the Pros when they are not digital artist or something like that. The 10th gen can handle must about anything I throw at it for sure.
I am a photographer and I just bought the 10th gen iPad as my main editing machine. I love it and the only issue that I have had is importing and exporting it is slightly and I mean slightly slower than my M1 MacBook Air that I have been using for the last four years. The actual files app is not at the same level as finder but it gets the job done. The Split View allows me to work moving files around with ease once you figure it out. Yes moving files and transferring them to a separate HDD is slower but it is nothing that you cannot deal with. The act of editing is so much nicer on the iPad and I found the right apps that give me the same level of control that I have on the M1MBA. Now the only place that I found it falls short is stacking my night sky images for the Milky Way. I have been able to so sky replacements, focus stacking and HDR blends all on the basic level iPad. I have even gone through and culled 2000 images with ease this is a great computer and that’s what I am calling it
Thanks for your experience. If you are a photographer you might fall into the 10% of people that might need a little more than the 10th or new 11th gen coming but something like the Air could work. Thanks again.
@@craigneidel yes you are right that I could use the air for all that but the one thing that is stopping that for me is the price. When it came down to buying the 10th gen it was the overall price for a maxed out version was still less that buying the 13” air so it becomes a give and take no computer is perfect and no camera is perfect. If it gets the job done and it saves you money then I am all over it lol.
For sure. But something like an M1 Air or older version could be good also if you do quite a bit of photography. The 11th gen should be coming out soon too and the iPad mini.
I had a third generation iPad Pro for many years. I got use to the 12.9 screen and stereo and visual. I tried to save money and purchase the newest air. After doing so I wanted my old iPad back. So I just upgraded to the new M4 13 inch and love it. The surrounding sound is great and the viewing area is nothing to be compared with the new air iPad. I usually keep my iPads for 7 or 8 years before upgrading them. So in the long term I’m so glad I went ahead and purchased the 13 inch A4.
This might sound a bit weird but the 10th gen is the first iPad I have actually felt comfortable with…I think it’s a 50% upgrade on value for money compared to all previous gen’s. The only task the 10th would show some limitations for me is analyzing audio library’s for DJ software and actual performance of DJ software, everything else fine! The 10th will still do the job but with the M2 Air the job does get done a lot faster and software performance where DJing is concerned, with the M2 it’s flawless! Nothing made by man is God like though…
Yes, you might notice it on specific things but for the average user who is just using it for things like web browsing, emails, watching TH-cam, etc. the 10th is plenty fast for sure.
I have iPad air 13 inch with M2 chip. It is getting very hot while creating apple notes. Even after closing all the applications and restarting the tablet there is no change.
I suspect you’re using an Apple Pencil with notes. This is an issue and has been for years that the iPad seriously heats up and drains the battery. It’s NOT that something is wrong. It’s a common complaint for which there are many complaints in comments on TH-cam. I’m told the Goodnotes app is better for this so I’m trialing it but it’s annoying that Apple hardware and software isn’t working together as it should.
I still have my 2021 11-inch iPad Pro. It does everything I need it to do. I won’t be upgrading because there’s nothing groundbreaking; the new iPad can do that. I considered upgrading to the bigger size; however, after watching WWDC, I was very disappointed in iPadOS. I mainly use my iPad for gaming, media, and editing photos. There’s no reason to upgrade because nothing on the new one will improve what I currently use my iPad for.
I like the video and the insight you provided. I was wondering something though: who then should pick up the M2 iPad Air? I work overseas teaching English and my 7th gen iPad has been a great help in and out of the classroom. Would it be a good time for me to upgrade to that iPad or to the 10th gen?
Thank you. I would say the Air or the 10th Gen would be a good upgrade for you. I mean the 10th gen is only $339 I think on sale right now but the Air isn't that much more. Either of those would be good for you but I don't think you would need the Pro and there is no need to spend the money on that. Good luck with everything.
I have a 16” MacBook Pro where I have a screen big enough for working on my websites…but I can take my iPad Pro M4, in its keyboard protective case anywhere.
@@craigneidel …my 16” MacBook Pro doesn’t fit in my purse and as it hasn’t a protective case like the iPad so I’m afraid to drop it. I do take my 16” lots of places…in its bag.

I have a 11" Samsung 8+. This new iPad 13" is perfectly light. It allows me more screen space for art. I LOVE its feel & of course, the Apple landscaping of its 'devices' as Apple ALWAYS wins in the design elements ❤
This thing is incredible for artists the hardware and software are off the scale . It’s not for typing or programming or spreadsheets you don’t need the power, But for drawing painting rendering large files quickly this ipad pro 24 is incredible . Please understand the ipad software doesn’t need to be like macos . If apple wanted to make macos run on ipad of course they could… but that’s the point the ipad os is optimized for a completely different set of tasks.
Nay nay ....you take your Ipad Pro 13" M4 to the coffee shop.....& you are the man...😅....top of the pops 😅...the cream on the crop....you're on the red carpet...flash bulbs will be popping 🎉..you are up there ❤
I tend to look down on people who waste money buts that's just me. I don't fall victim to showing off things like computers watches etc. The only reason I don't still have my m1 air is my channel requires me to buy stuff. But 5 or 7 percent of people might actually need the M4 iPad but not many more really need to spend that money.
Probably the best iPad review for all the non pro content creator users. Since the launch of A12Z the iPad is overpowered for most iPad user, that just consume. The m4 is for those utilizing its performance. Anybody else can go with basic iPad or previous gen’s. So thanks again for your real world take on the specs and what (most of us) should invest the money in instead.
Thank you for watching. I just feel that 93% of people can use the A14 just fine (10th Gen.) and not need to spend more. Some need the iPad Pro but very few in reality.
Yeah, it was on sale for $299 just a day ago so for most it will be supported for enough years into the future. Look at the 9th Gen which millions still use fine.
My 2017 iPad Pro is little sluggish and no longer supports updates software..I sold it, and put money towards M4 iPad Pro( open box from Best Buy $800) …it’s your money, do whatever you make you happy..I have no regrets.
For sure, I was just saying that for most users I think the 10th or 11th gen iPad when it comes out paired with a MacBook Air is better but for some the Pro is better. We are all different for sure.
Bought a 12.9 256GB Wifi and Cell 4th Gen last year from a friend who hardly used it. It works perfectly for me on the road for emails, spreadsheets plus note taking. Pretty impressive as it has no M chip at all. I found an apple folio keyboard on FB marketplace for a song. All of this cost less than a iPad mini 6th gen 64GB.
Thanks for this great information. I have a 12.9 inch iPad Pro 3rd gen which I got as a gift my colleagues were pushing me to get the M4 and I procrastinated as I wasn’t sure what to do, I’m glad I didn’t buy the M4, I learnt so much from this vid. Will keep my iPad for as long as it will last.
Just changed my 3rd Gen Pro 12.9 (which was perfect for 6 years). I considered a new M4 13 inch, but it’s just overkill for what I need and very expensive (I’m a musician and need a big screen for music notation). Also looked at a new Air 13, but could really see the difference in the screen brightness (hard to unsee that!). Ended up with a used M1 which has plenty of performance, screen looks great and is in perfect condition with 95% battery health. Cost to changeover was under $400. Love Apple, but the M4 is just far too expensive and like you say a Ferrari of a device, when 95% of us just need a Toyota!
I went to the store and looked at them. In the end I didn’t see the need to switch, I still have my M1. OLED doesn’t thrill me but if it does you great but it’s not going to last.
I love the screen and the fact that I can work in the sun with cellular on the go is the main reason that I bought this. The freedom that brightness offers while connected to cellular… and the fact that I can have it on my lap without it heating it up has already payed dividends on the third day of owning it I worked on it for four full hours, while in the front right seat of the car with the summer sun blasting the screen I felt liberated and empowered The rest is just a bonus. I love this machine and if it I weren’t a creative professional needing a lot of connectivity and stuff connected to my desktop it would be the single device I would use i still get the point of view that apple is slacking on the OS and I as well wish the OS would be better as I definitely miss some desktop apps while on the go, but for 99% of the stuff I need a laptop to do it does it wonderful. And for what a tablet is supposed to do it just blows everything else put of the water (including my trusty M1 11” due to the screen and the pencil pro and the fsct that as a 13” it s so thin and light) With that said If apple would give macos dual boot without stopping ipados development, man oh man this computer would be something else For now I am very haopy with the device for my needs, but I am in the minority
Thanks for the post. It sounds like you know why you are buying it and that is totally fine. I'm just saying for most it's better to pick up a 10th or Air and save the money and get a MacBook Air too but for those that know they use it no problem there. They are nice.
Thanks VERY much for your honesty (and bravery). I broke the screen on my 10th gen, which is costing $400 to replace. Ouch. But I struggled a lot over buying a new one, vs repairing my old one. Ended up finding a returned M4 at Best Buy with a big discount. Was surprised to see that, so bought it, and still kept my broke screen one. After the 1st day, and now a week, I agree totally. It’s no difference to us mere mortals. Still agonizing over returning it. So I did go ahead and replaced my 10th gen screen anyway. Running side by side is pretty identical. I may keep the M4 anyway to see what Apple may do in the future with AI features and apps. But the price isn’t worth it vs recent models (as you showed) for almost everyone.
Thanks for the feedback and for watching the video. Thanks for the data. Wow, $400 to replace a 10th gen screen? Can't you get a new one for like $399 now? In any case do what works for you and that is what is important.
I totally agree with the exception I wanted a larger second display when travelling so I found a second hand m1 12.9” for 1/3 the price of an m4 one with otherwise the same specs - using it with my 14” MacBook Pro. Very happy :)
I do music production and some video editing and graphic design, I just got a refurbished iPad Pro 4th gen 11”, it’s power enough to do what I need at half the price.
I have an iPad Mini 6 and it is all I need. I take it with me when I travel instead of hauling around my MacBook Pro. I use it to consume media and for surfing the web and email. In fact if I really need to do some work the iPad is the last Mac I would reach for. I find the OS somewhat cumbersome and it is so much easier to get things done on a laptop or my Mac Mini. The new iPads are also expensive. Who really needs an M4 iPad? On another note, I have always wondered why Apple has never made a touch screen laptop. Could it be that it would hurt their iPad sales? Just a thought, I could be wrong... Good video btw.
Yes, Apple won't make a touch screen as they make too much money from iPads. That is why they won't upgrade iPadOS to be more like a real OS. Just curious on why you didn't go with the 10th gen? What is better about the Air in your eyes (again just curious). Thanks for watching the channel.
@@craigneidel I am not against the 10th gen iPad. I considered buying one before I purchased my MacBook Pro. Too much money going to Apple at one time if you know what I mean. The Mini is actually slightly faster but you really would not notice that. The extra screen size would be nice but I can live with the Mini for the time being.
I'm keeping my M1 iPad Pro for several more years. The fact that apple forces you to buy a new pencil and keyboard cover is further incentive against upgrading. Had I been able to keep the keyboard cover and pencil, I might have been tempted with an apple trade in offer to get the better display.
i am using an ipad 9 when traveling. there are a few things that are incredibly annoying (file management!), but with a bluetooth keyboard and, depending on what I am working on, a mouse (both for less than USD 30 combined) it does pretty much everything I need it to do, is super compact, and I am not worried about losing it, breaking it, or having it stolen.
I still enjoyin usin my 11 inch iPad Pro M1 all i do with it is watching all my movies tv show and TH-cam that’s what i do most of the time on my 11 inch iPad Pro M1
@@craigneidel i dont have a tv why should i get a tv it just a waste of money i rather have myself a iPad Pro that way i can watch all movies and tv show on the go plus i hardly never be home just to watch tv anyway
Agree. There is almost no value without the software and UI to similarly be updated. I wonder why they don’t offer the dual layers OLED in the MacBook pros
They should offer that sooner or later but it increases costs and on laptops people can get more burn-in so they will first use on iPads and bring to Macbooks in 1-2 years.
I’ve had quite a few iPads in the past. Over the years, it just became redundant tech. If it’s not replacing my MacBook, I won’t buy another. My Max iPhone settles my content consumption on the go!
Yes, that is another thing. The iPhones are basically iPads but smaller. So if people don't do digital work that requires a powerful iPad I don't see the reason for going with something besides the 10th Gen. I think that is around 95% of people.
I went with the pro because I edit photos on the iPad and it was only 200 more for the pro, so I figured I’d future proof my devise. iPads are so awesome now. You’re right though, you can even buy a 9th gen for under 200 and it still works awesome
Thanks for watching. Yes, if you use it for photo editing and things like that then it might be worth it for sure. I just feel that the 10th gen or the new 11th gen when it comes out is a good device for most people.
I still have my 2018 12.9 iPad Pro and contemplating about upgrading due to my poor battery life and cracked screen not sure if I should get the M2 pro or M4 the air isn’t really on my radar as I feel it’ll be a downgrade due to the 60Hz 😅
Owning the M1 iPad Pro was thinking abt upgrading to the M4 but I’m hesitating. The OS s way too much limited but i kinda like the old « saw the iPad M4 in store ». Is it a bad idea?
If you are not seeing any performance issues with the M1 then I would not upgrade but it's up to how you feel and what you use it for I would guess. If it's for something like work that pays you then you might want to.
I have seen the iPad Pro in my Apple store and yes the M4 is bluffing when it comes to speed and this is an amazing piece of tech but...the OS it is unbelievable to have a so weak OS for a so powerful piece of technology. I will slowly upgrade my iPad 9 fror an iPad 10....iPad and MacBook Air are the best combination this configuration for my art business alongside an iMac. I don´t need nothing more maybe the next MacBook Air M4.
So many people are returning them, because that was the plan when it was bought… most folks are just trying to get some views from it and then take it back… I love my Space black m4 13 I also love the new Air 13 I got for my girl. I’m coming from a 2T M2 12.9 iPad Pro that I got through Verizon. For clarity I also got these new IPads through the carrier. I didn’t purchase these outright. We also got the Magic Keyboards and new Apple Pencil Pros. No regrets
Just ordered my iPad Pro 13 through Verizon this morning. Coming from the M1 11inch (gave it to my daughter). I game a lot on iPad … Warzone and NBA 2K Arcade Edition at MAX refresh rate and graphics will be AMAZING!! 😈
What do you use them for? I mean why do you need that over just the 10th Gen? I'm just curious and asking to understand why people spend the money if not a digital artist.
@@craigneidel I’m honestly just one of those customers that have to have the latest and greatest. I get every IPad Pro, iPhone and Apple Watch Ultra. I used to do the same thing with Samsung. For me id rather have and not need, than to need and not have. For the most part I use it for streaming services, but the occasion does come when I need it to be a computer, and for that it’s great. I could get by with a basic iPad, but I wouldn’t be completely satisfied with it knowing I didn’t get the best I could have gotten.
Yeah, but I was saying in the video for like 90% the 10th gen is best with a MacBook. If you like the best and have the funds then you are in that 10% that it might be right for.
I think i would have to agree with you. I am a content creator using DaVinci Resolve. The desktop version still is a lot better than the iPad version with all the bells and whistles. I have the M2 iPad Pro and it does the work just fine, including taking notes. I will save the money for better things like, another camera lens.
I agree with you 100% with one exception, instead of getting the 10 inch iPad I bought the 11 inch iPad Pro with the M2 chip brand new at BJ’s for $620 with 256 GB, promotion, 4 speakers, 6E Wi-Fi. This also includes the hover feature plus less latency when you’re using a pencil. I tried to 13 inch iPad, which turned out to be way too awkward and heavy. sent it back after two days plus the battery life was two hours less than the 11 inch model. I wouldn’t have bought anything new except for the fact that I found out they were discontinuing updates for my 10.5 inch iPad.👈👀🥵
@@chickenagogo I got this from youtubers I watch: oled in general has inherently more flickering than non-oled screen because of how the technology works. So oled might not be the best for the eyes especially if you use the screen for a lot of PDF or e-book reading.
I returned my M4 iPad Pro because of the OLED…but after comparing it to my M1 iPad Pro with mini LED there just was not that much of a difference. I’ll keep my $ thank you!
I decided for M4 11“ with 512 GB because… Till now I have an iPad Air 2 with 128 GB since 2015 and I want to use the new one for 5+ years to come 😂 Just a different approach
@@craigneidel The iPad is my Go-for tool for 99% of daily tasks. E-Mails, document scanning and storage, listening music, watching videos, editing some pictures, writing notes, editing documents, banking, all those things I used to have a laptop or computer for. When traveling I have a company notebook which I don’t use for those personal tasks described before. The iPad is my companion like my iPhone on each day, at home and. traveling. So, y you are most likely correct thinking that I could manage with a less expensive iPad . But my decision is based on the fact that I liked the Pro Display better. And I decided that the additional 370€ are welll spend compared to the new iPad Air in my opinion. The decision to go for 512 GB is simply not believing that the lowest number of memory is good enough and being to stingy to pay the insane price tag for 1 or 2 GB. My experience with thee iPad Air 2 was marvelous keeping in mind that I am in year 9 using it but now it is stumbling and showing signs of slowing down significantly. So my decision for 512 GB is simply a bet into future aging of my new iPad based on past experience. My thinking may not be understood or approved by others but that was the result of weeks long arguing with myself and reading // listening to other peoples opinion and talking with some friends. Last but not least I also did spend some more than I thought I will have to spend but I am good with that because I feel satisfied on all levels. Good value for money spent. Not sure if that long explanation satisfied your interest or just made you sick 😷
Thanks for the post. Makes sense and I'm not saying everybody should get the 10th gen. I'm just saying most should and you may not be one of those people based on your use case. Anyhow thanks for watching the channel.
I love my M4 pro 11 inch it’s amazing for art work and video editing and the screen is beautiful but that said I also am still using my gen 3 iPad Air which is still a joy to use
6:04 answer iPad 10th , or when they decide to refresh iPad Mini , that one to me is the one to get, portability , price and convenience. Very helpful and straight to the point video, indeed combining it with a Macbook makes a whole lot more of sense
Yes, and that is fine but I mean the other screens are great too and it's a small device. Why do you need such a screen on a 11 or 13 inch device? Just curious to be honest and trying to understand better.
Yes, then you need a stronger iPad but the Air would have been a huge upgrade too. I was saying for 95th% of people the 9th or 10th gen is fine but for the rest who do things that need more power then upgrading is what you need to do.
I was thinking about the new iPad… but I’ve already decided to stick with what I have… I don’t need to buy a 10th gen iPad, since I am writing this comment from my 10th gen iPad with the “magic” keyboard. I already own it so I don’t see the rush to spend major bucks on the new one. However I may spend less money on a MacBook Air 15” instead.
I got my iPad M4 chip with 512 GB just so I don’t have to replace it with a new one every couple of years. I’m planning on using this thing for 5+ years.
Maybe but I trade in my 10th gen every 3 years and it only costs me about $150 over 3 years after the trade in. Plus I have the MacBook Air with the M3 for power. But everybody is a bit different and that is fine.
Very good video. You got most of the important points already. I have a very old ipad, and have been following recent ipad development. The only reason I wanna get a new ipad is for digital art purposes only. But man, the new ipad is way too expensive. Why put a very expensive M4 chip there? There were M1, M2 ipad before this, and looks like apple is not gonna update ipadOS so we can take the most of the chip power AGAIN! Most of those who have m1 or m2 ipad before almost have no reason to update to New ipad. The only purposes i could see to update to newest ipad are probably just for the new pencil pro and oled display and you have to pay an arm or a leg for it especially for the 16GB RAM one.
If you do digital art you are in that 5 or 7% that might be able to justify it but most people don't do that. Yes, I agree that people who have the M1, m2 really have not reason to upgrade to the M4 because they just don't need that power on iPadOS.
I love my M4 iPad Pro 13 with 1TB with ( WiFi & cellular ) + with apple 2 generation keyboard better then my old M1 iPad Pro 2021,just got five days ago loving it so much❤❤❤❤❤😊🎉🎉
You have to remember the average user will never use more then the power the A14 chip. I mean yes the Air is nice but why does the average person need that? For some it's a great fit but I'm talking more about the majority.
I do music production for various things...I do not need a M4 chip for any reason. I use a desktop Mac...and any iPad that supports USB Sidecar (all of them do) will be greatly helpful to have...but color accuracy isn't that important...as I'm mostly using the iPad as a plugin monitor screen...or a Video Window screen to sync stuff...not to make color accurate grading choices...
That is why I said to get the 10th gen and a MacBook Air. The Air will as I use it right now. I would not recommend Final Cut on any iPad to be honest and something like a MacBook Pro is much better.
Still using my iPad Air 4 from 2020. I dont see myself ever buying another iPad. EVER. PS: I bought one of those Mattel Electronic Football games 2:42 in 1978 for $24.99 at Two Guys department store in Schenectady, New York. Great investment. My mistake was buying the basketball version after - should have put that $25 on Apple stock).
I definitely agree with everything you've mentioned. Most people probably don't need an M4 iPad Pro; a lower-tier iPad or even an older M1 would suffice. However, I personally decided to go ahead and purchase an M4 iPad Pro for myself.
Just curious - why did you spend the money if you don't need it? Do you do digital art work or something like that? It's fine but just curious since the 10th gen basically does the same thing for hundreds less.
@@craigneidel I don’t do any digital art work or anything like that. I mainly use the device for gaming and media consumption. Unfortunately, the A14 Bionic chip in the 10th gen just ain’t going to cut it any more for gaming outside of older titles and idle clickers. We are seeing a number of titles become exclusive to the M chips. I also wanted the OLED display. Before picking up my M4 iPad, I had decided to purchase the last generation M2 11” iPad Pro with the LCD for $600… While Apple LCDs are very nice. I just cant deal with gray blacks and back light anymore. My eyes have just become to accustomed to OLED displays. My TV, Computer monitor, Switch, phone, VR headset, and Steam Deck is all OLED. I also wanted a device that I could use as a laptop replacement. Something I can edit GoPro footage on and share with friends and family. Something that I know would have another 5 years of full support from Apple, and would still run like new… Again, the A14 just ain’t up to the task.
@@craigneidelI don't engage in digital artwork; my primary use for the device is gaming and watching media. Regrettably, the A14 Bionic chip in the 10th generation no longer suffices for modern gaming, except for older titles and idle clickers. Many new games are now exclusively available on the M series chips. Moreover, I prefer the OLED display. Before acquiring my M4 iPad, I considered buying the previous generation M2 11" iPad Pro with an LCD for $600. Although Apple's LCDs are high-quality, I can no longer tolerate grayish blacks and backlighting. I've grown too accustomed to OLED screens, as my TV, computer monitor, Switch, phone, VR headset, and Steam Deck all feature OLED. Additionally, I sought a device that could double as a laptop substitute, one capable of editing GoPro footage to share with friends and family. I needed a device that would receive Apple's full support for the next five years and continue to perform as if it were brand new. Once again, the A14 chip does not meet these requirements.
I still think something like the 10th gen and MacBook Air are best for most but if you are using it for gaming etc. and like the form factor then the iPad might be right for you. With the A14 chip I normally trade to the newest one every 2-3 years and get about $170 back (making the cost about $170 every 3 years).
For consumption purposes, 10th gen iPad is enough for all. I have 256gb iPad Air for work, and 64gb iPad, both download my purchased contents through iCloud as needed anyway. For production purposes, iPad OS and apps are usually designed to work for M-chips, some apps, in my case, Files and Numbers, just not work perfectly on my 10th gen iPad.
I use the 10th Generation iPad with a $20 pencil & a $40 keyboard case. It does everything I need & is a good travel companion.

My M4 iPad replaced my desktop. Very happy with it and the hardware is incredible. The OS works for me and I'm hoping the limitations will ease themselves out over time, but I have no interest in a MacBook again until they get OLED panels.

I totally agree with you. I was expecting a lot from WWDC, but it ended up with big disappointment. The M4 chip on iPad is totally wasted.
Yeah sadly enough that much power is not needed on the current MacOS and I don't think Apple will change that any time in the next 5 years.

I would and pick up refurbished air on apples refurb store or get 10th Gen. But only you can make the decision that is best.

@@craigneidel I appreciate your reply thank you!
No problem. Thanks for watching.
Yes for that money I would have went with the M4 also. I love visiting Germany and have been there about 8 times so far.
Nice .. that's what I was saying. If you are not an artist why do you need a iPad pro. Just makes no sense to me but just my opinion is all.
I turned in my old 4th gen iPad 12.9" with the A12Z bionic processor for a new 13" M2 iPad Air and have no regrets

@@craigneidel _"It comes down to individual taste on the touch"_
Yes, I've always had a desktop (currently Mac Studio and 32" screen) and an iPad, never a MacBook, because I personally don't like moving a cursor around with a little trackpad.
@@sebus4039 I would just get the air and I heard that gets better battery life.

Hopefully the M4 iPad should show up in the Apple refurb store soon with a 15% -20% discount
Yes, that would be nice but I would guess another 4-6 months.
What if we want the camera relocated to landscape, which iPad should we buy?
Maybe the air
If you are happy with it then that's the right device for you. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks for watching.
Still got the 2018 11” ipad pro. And honestly thats good enough
Yes, not need to upgrade right now.
I have iPad air 13 inch with M2 chip. It is getting very hot while creating apple notes. Even after closing all the applications and restarting the tablet there is no change.
Something is wrong then. Mine is cool for stuff like that.
Yes, for sure. Your experience would be almost exactly the same and I agree that you really should not upgrade until you see a need.
Yeah, but you can take the MacBook too if you want to.
@@craigneidel …my 16” MacBook Pro doesn’t fit in my purse and as it hasn’t a protective case like the iPad so I’m afraid to drop it. I do take my 16” lots of places…in its bag.
Got it. Get what is right for you and only you know what is right.
sir what is the expected price of ipad pro m4 in upcoming bbd sale, should i buy in back to school sale in 90k including apple pencil or should i wait for bbd sale ....?? please reply also expected price of apple pencil pro in bbd sale.??
I'm not sure what the sale pricing will be in any upcoming sales. We will need to wait to know for sure.
I have a 11" Samsung 8+. This new iPad 13" is perfectly light. It allows me more screen space for art. I LOVE its feel & of course, the Apple landscaping of its 'devices' as Apple ALWAYS wins in the design elements ❤
Yes if you use it for drawing then you are part of the 7% that can justify cost. Thanks for watching.
That is what I said. For 5 or 7% of people it's right but for most they can just get the cheap iPad and an MacBook for the same cost.
How much longer will the 10th gen get support for ?? Compared to the M2 iPad Air
Just picked up an iPad Air M1 256GB for $529. Should be a nice improvement over the iPad 8th generation (a12) that I have.
For sure and that is a nice deal. Good luck with everything.
Nice, hey if it works for you then that is all you need.
I think you did the right thing. You won't notice too much of a difference and why spend all that money.
Yes, the used M1s are great machines for sure and should do about 95% of what the M4 versions can do.
I went to the store and looked at them. In the end I didn’t see the need to switch, I still have my M1. OLED doesn’t thrill me but if it does you great but it’s not going to last.
The M1 on an iPad is still much more power then you need to be honest.
I love the screen and the fact that I can work in the sun with cellular on the go is the main reason that I bought this. The freedom that brightness offers while connected to cellular… and the fact that I can have it on my lap without it heating it up has already payed dividends
on the third day of owning it I worked on it for four full hours, while in the front right seat of the car with the summer sun blasting the screen
I felt liberated and empowered
The rest is just a bonus. I love this machine and if it I weren’t a creative professional needing a lot of connectivity and stuff connected to my desktop it would be the single device I would use
i still get the point of view that apple is slacking on the OS and I as well wish the OS would be better as I definitely miss some desktop apps while on the go, but for 99% of the stuff I need a laptop to do it does it wonderful. And for what a tablet is supposed to do it just blows everything else put of the water (including my trusty M1 11” due to the screen and the pencil pro and the fsct that as a 13” it s so thin and light)
With that said If apple would give macos dual boot without stopping ipados development, man oh man this computer would be something else
For now I am very haopy with the device for my needs, but I am in the minority
Nice, that is the best way to do it for sure.
I have the 13 inch IPad Air M2 and love it.
Airs are at least reasonable and nice for the money.
I do music production and some video editing and graphic design, I just got a refurbished iPad Pro 4th gen 11”, it’s power enough to do what I need at half the price.
Yes, that is the way to go.
I just discovered your video. Fantastic 😊
Thanks for watching the channel.
I’m trialing an 11” iPad pro and I have a 2018 iPad Pro. Yes there are some nice to haves but it feels so similar
Yeah, that is what most say. I know there is a reason sometimes but overall they are very similar. Thanks for watching.
I agree and thanks again for the post.
I'm keeping my M1 iPad Pro for several more years. The fact that apple forces you to buy a new pencil and keyboard cover is further incentive against upgrading. Had I been able to keep the keyboard cover and pencil, I might have been tempted with an apple trade in offer to get the better display.
Yeah, why trade it in if it still works good. The M1 is so powerful for a tablet chip. Thanks for watching.
I’m also keeping my M1 IPad Pro, I would like to buy the newer one, but I don’t need to. The Software at this time doesn’t justify the extra expense.
I agree with you.
Same here! My M1 Is still super fast and powerful, so why upgrade at this point? I used the first iPad Pro (2015) for six years before getting the M1.
i am using an ipad 9 when traveling. there are a few things that are incredibly annoying (file management!), but with a bluetooth keyboard and, depending on what I am working on, a mouse (both for less than USD 30 combined) it does pretty much everything I need it to do, is super compact, and I am not worried about losing it, breaking it, or having it stolen.
Yes, the 9th gen works great and so does the 10th gen. I just don't know whey people get the Pro model is all.
I was craving for oled display then after watching your video i bought ipad air m2 it does all the task for me and display is also good enough.
Yes, the M2 chip is still great for sure.
I still enjoyin usin my 11 inch iPad Pro M1 all i do with it is watching all my movies tv show and TH-cam that’s what i do most of the time on my 11 inch iPad Pro M1
Why don't you want movies on a TV? Just a question I'm curious about since a 11 inch screen for a movie seems small.
@@craigneidel i dont have a tv why should i get a tv it just a waste of money i rather have myself a iPad Pro that way i can watch all movies and tv show on the go plus i hardly never be home just to watch tv anyway
@@craigneidel my iPad Pro can watch movies tv show on the go the tv u can’t watch movies and tv show like the iPad Pro
The iPad 10th gen has a USB port and I can hook it up to monitors and TVs. Also glasses that I use called the Virtue and it works great.
I don’t expect that!! Great video, what a surprise.
Thanks for watching.
@@craigneidel totally agree. Even the 9th gen works just fine for photo editing.
I still have my 2018 12.9 iPad Pro and contemplating about upgrading due to my poor battery life and cracked screen not sure if I should get the M2 pro or M4 the air isn’t really on my radar as I feel it’ll be a downgrade due to the 60Hz 😅
I'm not that sensitive to 60 HZ vs 120 HZ and I don't really care but I know we are all different so get what works best for you. Thanks for watching.
Yep I agree for sure
So many people are returning them, because that was the plan when it was bought… most folks are just trying to get some views from it and then take it back…
I love my Space black m4 13
I also love the new Air 13 I got for my girl.
Thanks for the post and for the information on what you see during your use.
"if you want movies buy tv" got me good. 🙂
Just stating that 90 percent of people or more are better off with 10th or new 11th Gen iPad when it comes out plus a MacBook air for same price.
Totally agree you! The new M4 is really not much of a functional upgrade over the existing model which is why I bought a refurbished iPad Pro 12.9.
@@s.c.1972 I think you did the right thing. Thanks for watching.
Great video, perfect presentation.
Thank you for watching the channel and the feedback. Appreciate it.
Not a bad deal at all and I think you made the right decision on what you bought. Thanks for the post.
Should i get the 2022 m2 ipad pro with mini-led or get the 2024 m4 ipad pro
No need for me iPad. Save the money. Actually get a MacBook in my opinion.
If you can get a good deal on the M2 one, I’d lean towards that. Also a bit better for your eyes.
@@qpalzmxnskwoeidjcbare these tandem oled bad for eyes ?
@@chickenagogo I got this from youtubers I watch: oled in general has inherently more flickering than non-oled screen because of how the technology works. So oled might not be the best for the eyes especially if you use the screen for a lot of PDF or e-book reading.
I returned my M4 iPad Pro because of the OLED…but after comparing it to my M1 iPad Pro with mini LED there just was not that much of a difference. I’ll keep my $ thank you!
Yes, money is important and Apple has enough.
Always love your logic , keep it coming..Cheers ✌
Thanks for the nice words.
I decided for M4 11“ with 512 GB because…
Till now I have an iPad Air 2 with 128 GB since 2015 and I want to use the new one for 5+ years to come 😂
Just a different approach
What do you use it for? Are you a digital artist... I mean why not just the air or 10th Gen. Or a MacBook... Just curious.
*Omigosh !* You made a very interesting proposition, it is like getting 2 for 1.
Maybe.
I love my M4 pro 11 inch it’s amazing for art work and video editing and the screen is beautiful but that said I also am still using my gen 3 iPad Air which is still a joy to use
If you like it that is fine. The Air is a great machine for the money.
I’am watching this video on a Gen4 2020 pro with an off brand keyboard. Very happy at the present. May consider a new phone just because!
Thanks for the post.
6:04 answer iPad 10th , or when they decide to refresh iPad Mini , that one to me is the one to get, portability , price and convenience. Very helpful and straight to the point video, indeed combining it with a Macbook makes a whole lot more of sense
Thanks for watching. I know some people might need the new iPad but for most I think the combo is a better idea.
I’m buying it mostly for the screen that Tandem OLED is incredible we gotta be honest.
Yes, and that is fine but I mean the other screens are great too and it's a small device. Why do you need such a screen on a 11 or 13 inch device? Just curious to be honest and trying to understand better.
Using the 9th gen iPad and Logic Pro, it would freeze and crash. Struggled. Logic Pro now flies on my M4.
Yes, then you need a stronger iPad but the Air would have been a huge upgrade too. I was saying for 95th% of people the 9th or 10th gen is fine but for the rest who do things that need more power then upgrading is what you need to do.
@@craigneidel yep totally agree. I’m over killing it but I’m ok with that.
Yes, but that's fine.
Yeah I think that is a great idea for sure. I think you can do more with MacBooks but I know everyone is different. Thanks for watching.
Thank you, bro.
You put my mind at ease, man
Funny, thanks for watching.
The powerful processor opens up future possibilities of more advanced apps for the tablet.
Yes, but they are not delivering any that would need a M4 CPU.
I love my M4 iPad Pro 13 with 1TB with ( WiFi & cellular ) + with apple 2 generation keyboard
better then my old M1 iPad Pro 2021,just got five days ago loving it so much❤❤❤❤❤😊🎉🎉
If you love it then it was worth the cost.
The iPad everybody should get is the old iPad Air 4 instead the iPad 10. And for power users the iPad Air 5. That’s it . 🤷🏻♂️
You have to remember the average user will never use more then the power the A14 chip. I mean yes the Air is nice but why does the average person need that? For some it's a great fit but I'm talking more about the majority.
Yes. If is only because the camera just rotate to portrait mode and stop having first world problems 🤷🏻♂️
@@craigneidelthe air 4 has the same chips but better everything
Maybe but I think the 10th gen is what people should get and also a Mac. Just an opinion.
Like I said there are people who need the Pro but it's only about 5% of users is my guess.
Will the Ipad 10th gen run Final Cut Pro?
That is why I said to get the 10th gen and a MacBook Air. The Air will as I use it right now. I would not recommend Final Cut on any iPad to be honest and something like a MacBook Pro is much better.
Still using my iPad Air 4 from 2020. I dont see myself ever buying another iPad. EVER.
PS: I bought one of those Mattel Electronic Football games 2:42 in 1978 for $24.99 at Two Guys department store in Schenectady, New York. Great investment. My mistake was buying the basketball version after - should have put that $25 on Apple stock).
Yeah I only get the cheapest one and trade in the old one.
I have the iPad Air 2 and so I ordered the 13 inch M4 1TB nano nano
what do you use it for?
I am looking to buy one. I think it’s the best tablet you can buy an would rather not buy another pro later
Maybe but that is what I was saying. About 7 percent of people might actually need the pro.
