    I successfully used this video to repair a damaged phone. The only thing I have to point out is that the screws in the two phones I had, both donor and recipient, were T5 instead of T6.

    Yo you just teleported past the part where you removed and instructed how to remove the hardware chip and processor shields!
    Also, once shields are removed, is it possible to remove the processor, memory, etc chips from one pure board and migrate them over to a new or different pure board?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I don't show it since no one would generally be removing those. The chips are soldered to the main board and are not user replaceable.

    • @richardstarr9223

      @@PBKreviews Awesome man thanks for the reply!
      I am aware the these components are indeed soldered to the main board. That being said, I am also quite proficient with a soldering iron and generally know what I'm doing in that department. Of course anything I may do from the point on would be 100% @ my own risk and at the fault of absolutely no one but myself....
      Now then & with that being said, may I pose the same question to you again and might there be a variation to you previous answer?
      Again, thanks very much!

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, if you have the skills and the tools, you can de solder the chips and replace them. But just basic soldering skills wont cut it. You would need to reball the solder points on the main board before re soldering the replacement chip etc. As for the shield covers on the board, if they are removable (some aren't which would require de soldering the shield cover from the board), they have small clips around the base of it which you can use a thin razor blade or thin flat head to gently lift up and pop them off the base to release it.

    Im going to replace the battery and was wondering if I TRULY have to use replacement adhesive when i put in the new battery or can i just stick it in without it?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can just re use the old adhesive tape from the battery, should hold it in place. Without any adhesive, the battery would bounce around and cause noise and possibly damage to the battery.

  • @PlasticCogLiquid

    I like how they say the battery is not removable when it clearly is, I already found replacements for it too. If it was soldered in then that statement would make more sense.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, they basically mean most people without the tools and knowledge on taking the phone apart wont be able to do it. Maybe they should word it differently. However there are also many people who comment from time to time and say how is this considered replaceable on some videos so I guess they should write "battery replaceable by professional" or something :)

    I got the phone last month, and it already stopped working. Refuses to turn on, I tried multiple chargers, and no vibrate to indicate that it's charging. So, I assume the battery is dead. I guess I'll have to look into a replacement. I guess I need to look up a replacement battery.

      Same-same here. I've been taking things apart for about 70 years, just to see what made them tick or to attempt to repair. Sometimes it means machining a small part for a $4 kitchen gizmo of my wife's, sometimes doing a board level repair on a computer board, whatever. Thing I don't like about these phones since the G4 Play and Plus is not being able to take the battery out without an amount of unnecessary messing around so, even if one disables "location", they always know where you are.

    I just spent hours (days if you count waiting for glue to try) replacing a screen on my Motorola. I tested it before putting the back back on, and it worked. Now with the back on it doesn't! *Cry*
    I hold the power button down for ages and all it does is give me a weird vibration, nothing. I had to take the back off, again, and in doing so I found the coax cable disconnected. I don't know HOW but I reconnected it and it still won't start. (Would a coax cable even cause it to not start??) Everything else looks connected as I left it.
    Can you help at all? I will love you forever.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, no I don't think a coaxial cable would cause an issue like that. However in most cases this is caused by a short. Something is touching something that it shouldn't. When you remove the back, does it start working again? also try taking the motherboard and parts out again and re-assemble to make sure all is in correctly and see if it will work. Oh and one more thing. If the screen worked prior to you adhering it to the frame, and after you adhered it was when it stopped working, then the issue is on the back of the screen where the resistors and control chips are. Sometimes on aftermarket or replacement screens, they don't cover those chips with the protective film which prevents them from making contact with the frame and causing shorts. So you would need to use some sort of teflon or insulation tape/film or some sort of painters tape basically anything on that portion of the frame or screen where the resistors and chips are to prevent them from making direct contact with the metal frame and causing a short. Hope this helps. If you need a follow up reply, send a new comment instead of a reply to this comment so I would see the notification and get back to you.

      yeah, try using isopropyl alcohol, and apply some to the sides of the battery n let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute so it eats away at the adhesive underneath, making it easier to pry it off. I mention it in videos now which have batteries without pull tabs or pouches. Back then I didn't use isopropyl alcohol either but it makes a big difference :)

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I say step by step what you need to do @4:21 in the video. Once its all disconnected, all that is left is to heat up the old screen and pry the screen off from the frame. Its only held down with adhesive so you just pull it off, nothing else to explain or show on that. I don't pull it off myself because there is a chance of damaging a working screen.

    Ithe tip of the earphone cord broke off into the jack, sub-surface, ofcourse. Any suggestions for a forced DYI'r? Shops r only accesible by postal carrier. This has been an absolutely rugged, capable phone. With ample , beyond ample, features, especially for the small cost! I do not understand why some folks are talking trash on it...Anyway thank you for the very informative video. All that one has to do is stop and listen and SO much more can be gleened from your instruction. Folks dont hear anything other than what they want to hear, these days. They treat everything else as noise; heck, they dont even give it that much attention... Thanks again for your great video(s)!

    Holy fuck. Thank you so much. Turns out the ribbon cable connecting the fingerprint scanner was cut (I honestly have no idea how that happened) and it was touching a part of the batterys connection terminal causing my system to infinitely power cycle, looks a lot like a bootloop so I was getting frustrated. I was expecting to need to take the battery out so I thought I was out of luck (dont have a T6 screwdriver.) but after taking off the back and finding the cable tucked into the battery I knew something was wrong. Cant use my fingerprint anymore but thats much better than not being able to access any of my shit. at least now I can back it up to my computer and save all my data. Again, thank you so much. I would have never guessed a guitar pick would fit between the groove.

    Your method for removing the battery is risky. It would be very easy to bend the pack prying up on it, and using a metal tool is, well, just asking for it. I suggest the following: Soak the battery cavity with IPA as you do already. After a few minutes, use a brand new playing card (Poker style. I use Bicycle brand with Air-Cushion finish.) and work it under the battery, sliding and/or rocking it back and forth while applying constant pressure to slide the card farther and farther under the battery. Work both of the long sides of the battery this way, starting on the end with the screen flex, as you can ensure the card goes between the battery and the flex instead of it possibly trying to dive under the flex and damaging it. The edge of the playing card will cut the adhesive like a filet knife, and out pops the battery.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you probably have a short somewhere (part of the board or chip somewhere that is touching the metal frame that's not suppose to be). Which back cover are you referring to? the back plate or the covers over the motherboard and sub board.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, You mean prying it off? because all that is left is to heat it up and pry it off so why damage a working screen to show you how to just pull a screen off a frame. If there is something like a vapor chamber that is hidden that needs to be shown, that's a dif story. Also most screen replacement assemblies come with frame pre installed.

      you would need to take it apart like shown in the video, then when its taken apart, you can heat up the screen and pry it off the frame, apply new adhesive and then re apply the new screen back to the frame and re assemble the phone. You can check on mobiledefenders.com to see if they carry the parts and replacement adhesive for this phone.
