Visual Studio Code + PlatformIO + Marlin Auto Build + Marlin firmware (2021)

In today’s video, we’re going to take a look at how easy it is to install the required software to build new Marlin firmware for our 3D printer.
As software we will use Visual Studio Code, Git, Marlin firmware and a sample configuration will be used for Creality Ender-3 Pro and Anet A8.

Helpful video, I at least made a start now. Still don't understand what git is used for, you don't seem to use it here other than downloading and installing it. Or is it integrated into vscode or something?

Git is a version control system and PlatformIO uses it to download latest versions of libraries which are used during the build process. 😉

I keep getting these 2 Problems:
Cannot find "C:\. . . \.platformio\packages\framework-arduinoststm32\variants\MARLIN_F103Rx". [39, 17]
Cannot find "C:\. . . \.platformio\packages\framework-arduinoststm32\variants\MARLIN_F103Rx". [77, 21]
I'm using an SKR Mini E3 V2.0.

I did all this but the build failed. Error says G++.exe is not recognized. Are there other prerequisites to install? Thanks

@@Zemistr3D the core is not installed and won't install and a few other's that won't work instructions say to run pio home command but I can't if it's not installed.

All in all I had 87 errors and 87 warnings, in the process of uninstalling the old and reinstalling the newest python it decided it was fine and started without any problems except that it doesn't show any GUI for platformio? In the end I don't know what happened or how it now works but I was able to edit firmware and rebuild it. 🤔🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂
