I made my own 3/8" and 1/2" drive spinner handles years ago. I pulled the screwdriver blades out of Craftsman acetate screwdrivers and press fit the socket drives in. They're not locking, and they don't have the pass though socket adapter either. Now, I may need to redo them or go on a quest to find someone selling them 😜
Nice little spotlight on a VIM product. I've used numerous VIM tools over the years, and found them to have fantastic quality to price ratio. Probably my most used VIM tools are sets of triple square bits, that are not impact rated (but I've almost solely used them for impact during 20 yrs) and they've held up surprisingly fine. And sure I've seen plenty of 1/4" and 3/8" spinner handles, but I agree I've never seen a 1/2" spinner. This is the first. I doubt I'd ever use one, but it's cool to see. 👍
Thanks! Yeah so far I've liked all the VIM tools I've tried out. I even found one of their distributor wrenches that I got years ago, before I even know who they were.
even though they're ass taste handles, i love the look of em I think that locking mechanism is held in with a hex grub screw if you look close. definitely nicer than a roll pin
@@ballinator 🤷♂️ I have SK locking extensions from over 25 yrs ago that the locking mechanism at the tip are attached by a roll pin. And Snap-On locking extensions where the mechanisms are attached by a set screw. They both have their drawbacks. The set screws loosen over time, but are easy to retighten. The roll pins wear over time and just fall out. And don't even think about using anything with a roll pin on an impact. Not even once.
Just an FYI to everybody out there in case you're looking for a proper spinner handle there are 2 different but similar tools and some manufactures offer both which often get mixed up by distributors. ( WRIGHT 2441 vs 2442 for example ) Tool #1 is a spinner handle which has a female drive in the end of the handle. Tool #2 is a driver handle which has no female drive in the end of the handle. you may have thought that there are good and bad spinner handles because of this, but those bad ones are just stupid useless driver handles.
Yes, the shank goes all the way through! VIM has a whole line of 'specialty' type tools. They're an OEM for some of the tool truck brands too. There's a few other videos on VIM tools on my channel.
I've only ever seen handles like that with the hole for the ratchet in quarter inch drive I've never seen 3/8 or 1/2 in If they still made them I would get them
Sometimes on alloy wheels the lug nuts are so recessed the socket barely sticks out. Or on my truck with the huge 4wd hubs in the way. These are great for stuff like that.
Yeah, I usually tighten with the impact and do the torque with a torque wrench, but I'll admit I've just torqued them down with the impact a few times in the past...
once the socket is on there its not coming off.... until its coming off.... wtf? even from your own description "These tools were super cool" look at all of that super coolness that you cant do with any regular tools in a toolbox... what is this channel?
He's loco. And each of his personalities has a different voice. I wouldn't mess with him if I were you, I heard they based the movie 'Split' off of Ballinator. 😅
That's a bummer! Did not even know they existed!
I can't believe they discontinued those. I would love to have a set
Yeah, they're a pretty unique tool.

Interesting. I've done that to make file handles, but never for an extension.
Dang, dang, dang........Now I really, really want some.
Damn those are nice! I've never seen those.
I have the mac tools version love them
Oooh, looks like they have the 1/4" drive version that I need:

I don't think I've ever seen a 1/2" drive spinner handle before, so I suspect that demand for them was limited.
Yeah, the VIM is the only 1/2" one I've ever encountered.
Bonus hole's my favorite hole.
Great video thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your next video,👍👍🪛🪛🔧🔧
You're welcome! Thanks!

LOL, you're right! 1.5mm hex. How did I miss that?

@@ballinator only reason i caught it is cause i work with 1.5 hex grubs every day 😅

Now I want to buy some. Dang
Some other commentors pointed out that MAC makes a similar versions: www.mactools.com/products/x10edla
keep up the good work sir
Thanks, man.
I have a 1/2 dr short spinner that looks just like yours but it says Pittsburgh CR-v 1/2"x6" Tiawan.
Interesting. I wonder if whoever made them for VIM also made them for Harbor Freight at one point.
Drill any screwdriver handle and pound an extension thru it .
It's disappointing that they've stopped making them. I've been looking for a 3/8 spinner handle for years.
Yeah, there's only a few companies making them. I'm eyeing the Hazet & KoKen ones still.
@@ballinator I want the Teng Tools one but haven’t found an excuse to buy it yet
Never heard of this brand. Does the shank go all the way through the handle? I've seen cheap ones where only the plastic is making the connection.

Hey MAC tools sells 1/4" and 3/8" drive sets of locking hand drive extension sets part # SMEDL3PT for the 1/4" inch drive
Thanks. I'm adding links to the MAC ones in the video description.
Profit dictates existence
Just make your own like i did.
just use the deep socket to hand thread the nut on then put the uga dugga sender gun on it
Sometimes on alloy wheels the lug nuts are so recessed the socket barely sticks out. Or on my truck with the huge 4wd hubs in the way. These are great for stuff like that.
"final torque with an impact"..... Trolling us today, are you?

So, put a handle on an extension, and you will have the same thing.
