    Everyone is stupid. Its a 12,999 car that comes with a lot of features, 10 year warranty and gets the best mpg in its class. DE trims come in under 2000 pounds with a stick. You guys seem to forget its not a 30K+ car, it starts under 13000. Unkay?

      Get a used Civic. Marginal benefit of upgrading beats the marginal cost. It does the job, but it's way way way to expensive. $14,000 is way too much for a basic A to B car. Used Civics from craigslist will do the same for less.

    I test drove Mirage today and despite all the negative reviews from the "experts" I found the car to be fun to drive and well equipped...and there is a $1,000 rebate! I am considering trading in my Scion for the Mirage. Gas prices keep going up on the east coast!

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, I bought a Mirage and took advantage of the $1,000 rebate. Got my ES CVT for $11,900. Can't think of another car with auto climate control, bluetooth, cruise, leather wrapped wheel, alloys, etc etc for that kind of money. Great value in the Mirage.

      +palebeachbum How has the car been so far?

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I still really enjoy my Mirage, now at 28,000 miles. I average 45mpg. Comfort is good for a small cheap car. Loving the features. Much prefer hearing the growly 3cyl. vs. any buzzy 4cyl. Hasn't been perfect to this point though. Airbag sensor replaced under warranty and it has a very sporadic issue with a bouncing idle. Some words of caution. It's rather high maintenance. $60 synthetic oil changes are required and turns brown by 3000-4000 miles. Valve check and adjustment is required every 30,000 miles @ $200 a pop. CVT fluid also requires changing every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. These days most economical cars require none of the above. Depreciation is very steep. My heart sank when I recently checked the kbb value. Ouch.

    • @buildmorefarms1007
      @buildmorefarms1007 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      palebeachbum Thank you for the response and update! Is the CVT slow or is it liveable? I prefer manual transmission in almost any car Id buy. Sorry to hear about the other issues. At least it has a long warranty! I love Mitsubishis! Im thinking about one if they make a sedan in 2017.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Really it depends on your driving style. If you have a lead foot it'll feel slow as hell. If you are gentle on the throttle like me it feels perfectly adequate. Only time it feels like it strains to me is accelerating onto the interstate and up hills. Once up to speed it cruises nicely. If you prefer manual definitely go for that. Less money and more power to the wheels. I will say though the CVT is great on hilly roads. No downshifts!

    The complaints about the small gas tank don't make sense. It doesn't exactly need to be huge with that kind of MPG. You should be able to go around 400 miles on a road trip before having to stop again. Try driving a big Chevy Astro that barely went 400 miles on $90 of gas... needless to say, I've sold it in search of something fuel efficient.

    got the base model of this car with manual transmission. cost me 11,000 new, and I use it to deliver pizza. it meets my needs perfectly. engine note is surprisingly pleasing, and the power is sufficient to get me and two adult passengers up to speed on the freeway.
    suspension is soft, and the narrow, hard tires protest on corners.
    all four windows roll down all the way which is nice, and the 10 year 100k powertrain warranty is great.

    I have a rental and love it so far. 47 mpg in mixed driving and driven gently I use only 2000 rpm to accelerate and cruise at 65 and 80 is less than 3000 rpm, the stick needs 3000 rpm at 60 and 4000 rpm at 80 in fifth. Seats comfy, car cruises quietly, takes curves flat and at good enough speed. Complaints are few. No center storage bin or console, no radio tune knob, and no cruise on my base rental. Price on a new 2015 base DE CVT is !2000 out the door with the current $3500 rebate.

    EXCELLENT REVIEW.
    I love this car. I disagree on the lack of power for the highway. My commuter is a Smart Fortwo and it does just fine with a 0.9 litter engine, you have to factor the weight power ratio.

    • @bryanmartinez6600
      @bryanmartinez6600 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends where you live too, altitude reduces power and in a place like Colorado Power is reduced and our highways can be miles of incline. I would like something with power and not have a little Engine doing 5k Rpm to maintain 30 mph.

    In the beginning, it should be 4 reasons. #1 should be Reliability. CVT will always be more reliable than mechanical Transmission, small engine 3 cylinder over head cam engine will last, very simplistic design. #2 low cost of ownership. The tires are the least expensive you can buy, headlights are very easy to change because there is room to change them, some cars you have to pull the battery. 44 mpg, gas almost $4 and summer has not started yet. I totally do not get this review? Trying to fit 3 people in back on a sub compact? lack of sunroof? Ah, and why is he gender stereotyping this car?

    There are lots of actual positive reviews of this car but the common myth is that they're all negative. They're not. I just bought a 2014 with 58000 miles on it. The car runs and drives like new. I've owned all kinds of cars BMWs Hondas Toyotas Saabs Volvos. I bought one with a manual transmission and despite the 74 horsepower rating it does fine in town a little dicey on the highway until I got used to it but it gets up to speed. The steering doesn't excite me one but it does the job. Overall a cute little car that performs well for what it is and saves me a lot of money. Mine was a restored salvage title because someone wrecked the fender headlight and bumper cover. No damage other than that and the cosmetic damage with all repaired. Best part I got it for $3200. Now that's a deal!

    0:56 i dont know why people keep saying this about subcompact cars, their engines are made to make full use of the power band, you cant just expect to accelerate in 5th gear right up to highway speeds, drop it into 2nd or 3rd. i know you have the CVT model so just press you foot down on the pedal and the gear ratio should change to give you better power.

    I am sure you can get one loaded out of the lot for about 13K
    I would get the manual though, to get the most out of the engine and would drive it only to and from work in the city.

    Couldnt agree more on the sunroof. It was the only complaint I've had about buying my mirage. I average 43 in city and highway combine. I too get better gasmilleage in city normally than highway. Using a 5 speed manual here.

      Nah I havent had one put in. Im always very very skeptical about things like that. It ruins a lot of the structural integrity of the car so its always something to worry about.

    • @RWM195
      @RWM195 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A sunroof would add weight to the car, which would negatively impact its high MPG and the manufacturers claim that the Mirage is the “most fuel-efficient, non-hybrid gasoline vehicle” for sale today in America - a major selling point for the car. Plus, it would add additional cost which would detract from it affordability for budget buyers. The diminutive engine doesn’t have any capacity to take on extra-weight without further dragging down its meager performance. Adding a power sunroof would add weight that this engine doesn’t need. If you keep adding more and more features, at some point you’ll need to build-in more horsepower and torque, and there goes the outstanding fuel mileage and cost-containment of the Mirage. You simply can’t have everything.
      I suspect that this is why the car lacks more sound insulation or higher-grade carpeting or a better headliner. The Mirage is designed to be fuel-efficient and affordable. Once you start building out this car by adding things like a sunroof, you begin to get away from its core mission. At that point, you might as well start looking at the next model higher up in the food chain.

    At least it's better than a SmartCar with a five-speed automatic transmission, which also has a 3-cylinder engine. It's only good for crowded places and cities, such as in California and New York City, where maximum speed limit is usually 50 MPH. The CVT is better suited for 3-cylinder, 4-cylinder, turbocharged 3 & 4-cylinder engines, and supercharged 3 & 4-cylinder engines. Driving uphill with the CVT is a lot better than with a traditional automatic transmission, or in some cases a manual transmission, because the gear ratios are fixed with those transmissions compared to CVT.

    Don't get the CVT in a tiny car. The 5 speed will get you the 46 mpg on the freeway, I priced on where live. The 5 speed with a/c and radio is $12,350 If you need a commuter car? You can't beat it. This is an economy car, so don't compare it to a typical, standard car.
