    The Best Car Review Guy in the planet. This should be the standard in reviewing and testing all types of vehicles.

    Unbelievably detailed!
    I'm currently in the market for a new small car, and this video was invaluable.
    The quality and thoroughness of your reviews puts other 5-10min "reviews" to shame.
    I will be recommending this channel to others.

    Thank toy for this review, and thanks for not spending the entire time grousing and complaining about the fact that it's not a $50k car as the "professional" reviewers have been doing. It's a cheap, fuel efficient car. That's what Mitsu tried to make, and that's what they have made. In the US, you will find that the power windows and keyless entry is standard, as is the automatic climate control and air conditioning. They made a couple of changes for 2015, with the seat upholstery, and the most notable one, the antenna. The antenna on my 2015 is less than a foot long, and is at the back of the roof.
    I regularly get 45+ mpg from my manual transmission Mirage. And I have yet to run into a situation where it wasn't fast enough. Typically, I'm stuck behind someone in a much more powerful car, who doesn't need to get anywhere today. If you need to jump out in traffic, the little 3-pot doesn't hesitate, it launches my little blue car out into the road and roars up to speed with a sweet little noise and nary a care in the world.

      They also changed the motor mounts and added a little more sound insulation to the engine compartment for '15. The '15s are a bit smoother and quieter than the '14s were.
      The antenna was causing a lot of wind noise when it was taller and mounted right behind the windshield. This is why it was made shorter and moved to the back of the roof, from what I understand.
      And I get about 45 city with my '15 5-speed Mirage as well!

      I think people are just too used to having powerful cars... anything above 60hp can cope with pretty much any type of driving without having to push the engine ridiculously hard.

    This is the kind of review I was looking for... the *BASE MODEL.* Kudos to you for accepting the challenge. I'm tired of watching reviews for the high end models only. Keep up the good work.

    I bought a silver 2014 Mirage DE, and love it. Super light weight, great aerodynamics, and 50 MPG. Only complaint is the electronic throttle. Not nearly as laggy as the Chevy Aveo, but there's still that two tenths of a second lag.

    Excellent review! I enjoy that your not being a negative Nancy on this vehicle like many of the more establishment reviewers out there. It's just a great a-to-b economy vehicle! How would this compete with the Nissan Versa Note if I might ask?

    • @michaelclark3243
      @michaelclark3243 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching. You can check out my Versa Note review on this channel. I found the Note to have a solid structure, very little flex while the suspension is being worked hard. In that respect, the Versa Note takes the podium. Canada is getting the global Micra, which uses the same Nissan 'V' platform, which I will be testing in May 2014. When you're shopping in this category, pay attention to engine outputs and curb weights. While the numbers seem puny for the Mitsy, it has one of the better power-to-weight ratios in the class. Translation; it can get out of its own way. I enjoy driving the supermini cars, though remember, mass always wins in a crash. Do what I do; drive these cars like riding a motorcycle, forever scanning for the dangers, which is usually an octogenarian in an '85 Oldsmobile.

    • @jayops
      @jayops 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, the 2014 Nissan Versa Note has gotten some horrid crash test safety ratings particularly the front driver and passenger. 3 stars for the front driver and 2 stars for the front passenger. Yikes!

    How's the head and leg room in the backseat? I've been driving a Scion Xa for 10 years now, and it's the only small car that my 6'3" father can comfortably sit in the back.

    This review is the best I've seen, so far, concerning the Mitsu Mirage. My one question: I'm surprised you did not take the Mirage out for a spin for your findings on it's ride and handling. Do you ever plan on doing this. I'm just curious. Please inform when you can....many thanx!
    Peace!

    • @michaelclark3243
      @michaelclark3243 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching. Oh, it was driven alright, about 4000 KM during the test period. It only weighs in at this trim at 895 kg, so its very easy to throw around. Pop in the clutch, and you can save serious fuel, as you coast up to the stoplights. The ride is better than you might expect. It has to be, as a global market car, where the roads are anything but. Remember; you've got to live with it, so plan out a good test drive that mimics your typical drive day.

      >Pop in the clutch, and you can save serious fuel, as you coast up to the stoplights.
      I've always read that leaving it in gear and letting the car pull itself to a stoplight is best for fuel economy because it cuts fuel as opposed to idling as you slow and stop.

    I drove the Spark and was impressed. For $12,200 US (manual LS model), you get more power than the Mitsubishi, more room, and, most importantly, a safer vehicle. Plus power windows, aluminum wheels, a little more style, and a more extensive dealer network.

    • @kertusc
      @kertusc 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i was actually just thinking of how much of a p.o.s. the Spark is.

    • @ronaldderooij1774
      @ronaldderooij1774 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Really? In Europe we disagree. Apparently the pricing is different (also btw of the fuel). The Mitsubishi is more fuel efficient, just as safe (so I disagree on that one), Japanese, so more far more reliable and far more durable and has a rediculously cheap automatic gearbox that does the job brilliantly. And the prices are more or less the same, as is the dealer network. But in concede, that may be different elsewhere.

    • @aaroncostello8812
      @aaroncostello8812 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Spark has 10 more horsepower, but weighs an extra 300-400 pounds. So that power is of little actual benefit, and only really works to lower fuel economy. Having driven both, I can say they both feel equally slow. The Mirage comes standard with power windows, locks, mirrors, automatic climate control, etc, etc. But you do have to buy an ES to get alloys. The ES package is only $1200, and includes lots of other goodies. The base DE and the ES are the only two trims for the Mirage. Navigation is the only other factory option, but only on the CVT-equipped ES (for some reason).
      The Spark is marginally safer, having passed the Small Frontal Offset collision test that the Mirage failed. But it is a new test, with both the Nissan Versa and Toyota Prius C having failed this test also.
      As for the dealer network, you got me there. More Chevy dealers than Mitsubishi dealers. And with all the documented problems the Spark has, YOU WILL NEED THEM.

    • @alexstepanski
      @alexstepanski 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The base model Mirage can be found for 12,000 with the 5 speed, it comes with power windows, keyless entry, automatic climate control, power windows, usb aux mp3 120watt radio, aero dynamic hub caps. The safety is the only thing a little better with the spark, but at the cost of reliability. Look at spark owners pages, there has been multiple engine replacemnts under warranty as well as lots of other problems, check the mirage owners pages and you will see complaints about the oem washer fluid freezing below 20 degrees, and how ithe washer fluid smells bad. You will need that dealer network with your spark and make sure to get the extended warranty, I hope they hold up better than Aveo's cause those things are such junk.

      Do realise that he reviewed the Canadian version of the mirage. My 2014 has power windows, power locks keyless entry, push start button, voice/button activated bluetooth controls all for about 13k I wanted just a stripped down base model but got all the extras for close to nothing. And I daily get 45 to 50+ mpg on combined highway/city driving.

    I enjoy with with your show. I have a question about the rear bumper. Does the Mirage has a rear bumper reinforcement under the rear bumper plastic cover? In Thailand, it has only a rear bumper plastic cover.

    Question for everyone.
    The 3A92 (3 cylinder engine used in the mitsubishi mirage) uses timing belt or timing chain? I can't find any information on the internet, seems like this info was left behind on purpose, I wonder why? Help please and thanks in advance.

    7.7L/100kms for 115-120kph isn't that great. My Aygo gets 5.6l/100km at a constant 115kmh (any faster in my country would be breaking the speed limit of 70mph)... if you drive it really carefully you can get 3.7L/100km with mixed driving and a max speed of 96kph

    9k seems more like the price it should be. The competitors offer more for less. A Note: Armrests, Heated Mirrors, Height Adj Seating, CRUISE Control??.. you know this is an econo box, Right? At least you guys were not complaining that it not have a "back up camera" (WTF?) like another reviewer on You Tube. In the States they come standard with PW, PL, PM, AC. I could live without these things at the right price, but it is not available - AC and PW like in Canada. Better handling would be nice, and I would give up some Frills for a sportier chassis. Great review otherwise!

    Mitsubishi should just go out of business already. They went from the Eclipse and 3000GT VR4 to building THIS? I didn't realize there was a car out there that made my car look like a Lexus.

  • @Erdie5
    @Erdie5 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm sorry, but if your budget is $13k, and you're thinking of sinking it into a stripped down, anemic, cramped, noisy little box...I don't think that's a great idea. Spend the same money on a 2012 with 20-30k miles on it. That puts cars like Elantra, Corolla, Forte, Civic and Focus within the same price range, all of which are far better endeavors for your hard-earned money. At over $12k, this car is wildly overpriced.

      Elantra, Focus and Corolla are 8k more, and don't come close to the Mileage . The step downs from those cars, the Accent and Fit are at least 3k more. Mitsubishi offering 1000 off now.

      New, yes. But I was talking 1-2 years old, which would put them around the same cost. Hey, to each their own. If this car fits all your needs it could be a good choice! But I gave this one a good look at the Auto Show this year, and even putting the driver's seat up, past the point of comfort, I couldn't fit in the rear seat (I'm 176 lbs 6'3"). For me, a vehicle must carry 4 adults, so it fell off my list.

      Around here 2-3 year old cars sell for more than they did new. A new 2013 Focus is $16000, a 2012 Focus with 12000 miles is $17000.
      I test drove one of these, drove it hard, and got 55MPG ...

      That's pretty much every dealer in Upstate NY from what I have seen. I ended up buying new back in 2011 for that reason. I could not find a 2008 or newer compact for under $15000 ... so I went to a dealer and bought a new one for $12000.
      They make more money on the used cars anyway and a lot of people odn't think to research what the new cars cost

    This got a very bad review, 26 points, in Consumer Research mag. Was called a "miserable little car".
