    I personally don’t just hope to live 3.6 years longer, but also healthier, with my faculties and mobility. I’m not interested in ending up in a nursing home, reliant on tons of meds, unable to wipe my own butt! Living independent up until the end is the REAL goal.

    I listened back & didn't see the actual answer to "where does the fat go?' Dr. Joel Fuhrman answered that in the first edition of Eat to Live: on your low fat diet with mild calorie deprivation, our bodies will "spit out", for ease of visualization, the fat needed from our stores to balance the digestion & homeostasis (balance) of our our food metabolism, & to maintain energy. The fat cell shrinks doing this, but it doesn't go away (well I suppose some would if you were to get liposuction). That's why the minute someone goes off a "diet", it comes roaring back, as you've probably noticed in many of your clients, AJ. I know I'm posting this a day after this video, but I hope that helps someone. That's why Dr. Fuhrman says we should learn to live in a state of mild calorie deprivation, or the "hari hashi bu" of the Japanese in Forks over Knives: satisfied after eating, but not stuffed.

    • @Babesinthewood97
      @Babesinthewood97 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. Fat and glycose are metabolised inside mitocondria into energy like movement and heat inside our cells so that we can move, breathe, think, keep warm, do things, function.

    • @StephenMarkTurner
      @StephenMarkTurner หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Effectively, we breathe it out. The atoms in the fat are converted into carbon dioxide and exhaled. We talk of 'burning fat', but that would be converting matter into energy (ie a nuclear reaction) which of course doesn't happen in the body.

    The one thing that wasn't addressed in the section about talking to friends and relatives about nutrition and the potential benefits is the concept of how you want to live your last 10 years for example.
    If I understand correctly, choosing a whole food plant-based vegan diet thereby regaining your health, you might expect to have the last 10 years of your life be active and healthy years.
    In my humble opinion, that is a very significant difference in outcomes and different than the question of how many additional years you get.
    And, it's one of the biggest motivators in my devotion to this way of eating.

    It takes 100 “clicks” to become vegan. This means it takes 100 little “Oh my God!” moments where you realize how horribly the animals are treated - and that living vegan is a moral emergency. ✅

    Thank you, Dr Lisle for clarifying the statistics for me. It’s only 3.6 years? I didn’t know that. But isn’t it about the health and quality of life, not only quantity? If you live as a diabetic or heart patient, your quality of life is decreased compared to a WFPB lifestyle. At least now, I can think about it in terms of only about 5% on average shorter life for my loved ones instead of them dying very young. However, with my family history, many of my family members have in fact died young from heart disease. It’s my kids and my brother I worry about.

    I'm glad to hear this. I'm plantbased but figure we can eat a tiny bit of meat or honey here and there. I say now that I eat meat on "High days and Holy Days" an old term my grandparents used. So if it's a special occasion then yes I will have a piece of that slow-cooked lamb and glass of french champagne but I eat so many veggies that my health is stellar now anyway. Keep out of the junk and learn to recognise what truly is a treat

      I’ve tried taking a bite of fish my daughter was eating the other day but I couldn’t swallow it because of the texture so I ended up spitting it out. I know it might be mental but after being vegan for so long I cannot fathom eating animal or fish products but crave my veggies and natural fruits. I try to avoid processed food as my philosophy is, “if man made it, then don’t eat it.”

      What proof do you have for this? If that were true why do we have so many ‘perfect WFPB’ eaters suffering as time goes by with struggles with weight, anxiety, depression, constant hunger, and cognitive decline with age. Vegans wouldn’t need to supplement with b12.

    In another interview Dr. Lisle said that if you weren’t eating healthy since early childhood “the damage was done” and that you won’t live any longer than if you kept eating SAD the rest of the way. Now he concedes that even under the best of circumstances you’ll die at 82 instead of 86 on average. I’m sorry but the cost-benefit analysis is nowhere near worth it.
