I personally don’t just hope to live 3.6 years longer, but also healthier, with my faculties and mobility. I’m not interested in ending up in a nursing home, reliant on tons of meds, unable to wipe my own butt! Living independent up until the end is the REAL goal.
I listened back & didn't see the actual answer to "where does the fat go?' Dr. Joel Fuhrman answered that in the first edition of Eat to Live: on your low fat diet with mild calorie deprivation, our bodies will "spit out", for ease of visualization, the fat needed from our stores to balance the digestion & homeostasis (balance) of our our food metabolism, & to maintain energy. The fat cell shrinks doing this, but it doesn't go away (well I suppose some would if you were to get liposuction). That's why the minute someone goes off a "diet", it comes roaring back, as you've probably noticed in many of your clients, AJ. I know I'm posting this a day after this video, but I hope that helps someone. That's why Dr. Fuhrman says we should learn to live in a state of mild calorie deprivation, or the "hari hashi bu" of the Japanese in Forks over Knives: satisfied after eating, but not stuffed.
Yes. Fat and glycose are metabolised inside mitocondria into energy like movement and heat inside our cells so that we can move, breathe, think, keep warm, do things, function.
Effectively, we breathe it out. The atoms in the fat are converted into carbon dioxide and exhaled. We talk of 'burning fat', but that would be converting matter into energy (ie a nuclear reaction) which of course doesn't happen in the body.
The one thing that wasn't addressed in the section about talking to friends and relatives about nutrition and the potential benefits is the concept of how you want to live your last 10 years for example. If I understand correctly, choosing a whole food plant-based vegan diet thereby regaining your health, you might expect to have the last 10 years of your life be active and healthy years. In my humble opinion, that is a very significant difference in outcomes and different than the question of how many additional years you get. And, it's one of the biggest motivators in my devotion to this way of eating.
It takes 100 “clicks” to become vegan. This means it takes 100 little “Oh my God!” moments where you realize how horribly the animals are treated - and that living vegan is a moral emergency. ✅
That’s very noble but I’ve seen many humans killed or disabled from deer running in front of their vehicles. Hunting over populated game can protect humans and provide clean food for humans.
We help animals because they cannot help themselves. Not for status. We need to protect them from the atrocities that humans do to them, the most pain and suffering is experienced by farmed animals.
Phenomenal interview as usual. I am always amazed at how much I learn each time. Chef AJ, if you want a lesson on snobbery, you should watch the British comedy series 'Keeping Up Appearances'.
Thank you, Dr Lisle for clarifying the statistics for me. It’s only 3.6 years? I didn’t know that. But isn’t it about the health and quality of life, not only quantity? If you live as a diabetic or heart patient, your quality of life is decreased compared to a WFPB lifestyle. At least now, I can think about it in terms of only about 5% on average shorter life for my loved ones instead of them dying very young. However, with my family history, many of my family members have in fact died young from heart disease. It’s my kids and my brother I worry about.
But chef AJ used to say she was addicted to big gulp. Is that not only sugar? She said here that she's not interested in sugar alone, only with flour or fat.
I'm glad to hear this. I'm plantbased but figure we can eat a tiny bit of meat or honey here and there. I say now that I eat meat on "High days and Holy Days" an old term my grandparents used. So if it's a special occasion then yes I will have a piece of that slow-cooked lamb and glass of french champagne but I eat so many veggies that my health is stellar now anyway. Keep out of the junk and learn to recognise what truly is a treat
@@ThylakoidsRGo brown rice , beans and oatmeal make me hold on to alot of water . So i end up walking around puffy and bloated all day . I’ve tried taking a bite of fish my daughter was eating the other day but I couldn’t swallow it because of the texture so I ended up spitting it out. I know it might be mental but after being vegan for so long I cannot fathom eating animal or fish products but crave my veggies and natural fruits. I try to avoid processed food as my philosophy is, “if man made it, then don’t eat it.”
Yes great job but many people around the world have been eating animal food and lived a very long life . Many centurions around the world have eaten animal food all their life.
Lol Doug totally got called out there when you made that comment about rescuing an animal, I love Dr lyle, but wish he could be more honest when someone pokes holes in one of his theories. I've done things too, simply for the good of doing them, but I won't say what they are LOL, now I know someone's going to come on here and say but you just said you did them, please understand the humor in my comment!
I gave up telling ANYONE about how i eat now. Most ppl get verrrrrry upset about. And what prompted ME to change was cancer. Luckily i saw FOK in 2014. Was diagnosed w s2 ovarian cancer in 2018. I eat salt and sugar but no oil, meat or dairy at all since aug. 2018 and im still cancer free (no chemo) #mcdougall4life 🧿🩵✌🏼
❤honey helps our immune system the minute it hits our tongue! Balance with mineral salts. Citrus, celery juice and greens. Sugar and fat are the problem
I'm whole food plant based but I do eat honey occasionally. You need to get it directly from beekeepers though. Commercial honey is NOT pure honey. It will store for years, no problem.
That is a fabricated tale..it is symbolic...like the Bible itself. We evolved from ape like primates that ate bugs & discarded prey..also vegetation like leaves...whatever they could get to swing from trees & run from predators.
What proof do you have for this? If that were true why do we have so many ‘perfect WFPB’ eaters suffering as time goes by with struggles with weight, anxiety, depression, constant hunger, and cognitive decline with age. Vegans wouldn’t need to supplement with b12.
In another interview Dr. Lisle said that if you weren’t eating healthy since early childhood “the damage was done” and that you won’t live any longer than if you kept eating SAD the rest of the way. Now he concedes that even under the best of circumstances you’ll die at 82 instead of 86 on average. I’m sorry but the cost-benefit analysis is nowhere near worth it. Gimme my peperoni pizza and beer thank you very much

What about xylitol and it's dental protecting properties?
Decide for yourself: Is it a cue or trigger to you? Will it keep you from reaching your goal?
Xylitol causes diarrhea for me.
