As a kidney cancer and benign brain tumor survivor I’ve learned that this is my journey. Once diagnosed I’ve learned how to best guide myself through the journey. Everyone always tries to find blame. Sometimes it just is what it is.

Since all people will die, the fact that you are exposing your vulnerability to everyone helps others realize that even though you are eating wonderfully, you are still human and can get sick but your attitude and choices will inspire your fans.

And think how long ago you would have been gone if you hadnt taken this path. You'll get over this hump and we'll cellabrate together. I got Dx'd with stage 3C uterine cancer 3.5 years ago, got the surgery, but went for alternative treatments after that. I've had no evidence of further cancer. Yes, the good is moving toward living my best life with a seriously improved diet, with your help, and others like Dr Goldhammer, Chris Wark, and many others. Thanks again for sharing your current experience. Much love to you. Keep doing what God has called you to. ❤❤❤

I also was raised by a mother who smoked 1.5 packs of menthol Newports a day. My sister and I suffered for years because of her bad habit. And both Karen and I suffer for most of our lives with sinus and lung issues. And I worked in a city for years - high pollution. There are so many factors other than diet that we have absolutely no control over that can cause harm to us, especially environmental exposures. And unmitigated stress on top of it all.
I would just focus my energy and attention on surrounding yourself with loving souls and being very gentle, loving and compassionate to yourself. And every moment is precious. Do things that enable you to be in a continual state of joy, feeling loving and loved. I sense your soul is already encouraging you to do all of these things I hear you speaking about to be authentically who you are. ❤❤❤

"My Mother once gave me a tip: In difficult times, you move forward in small steps. Do what you have to do, but little by little. Don't think about the future, or what may happen tomorrow. Wash the dishes. Remove the dust. Write a letter. Make a soup. Plant a seed. You see? You are advancing step by step. Take a step and stop. Rest a little. Praise yourself. Take another step. Then another. You won't notice, but your steps will grow more and more. And the time will come when you can think about the future without crying." ~ Elena Mikhalkova

What a fantastic episode! I always love listening to Dr. Goldhamer, but this was on another level! Dr. Goldhamer is often seen as a purist and an example of perfection in terms of lifestyle. And while he may live more optimally than most of us, I absolutely love his attitude about all the speculations about Chef AJ's diagnosis. He showed so much common sense, level-headedness, and hope. This whole episode was a great example of not majoring in minor things. Thanks as always, Chef AJ, for bringing us high quality guests and for your fantastic hosting. Sending you lots of love and best wishes for your appointment next week!❤

All these people's speculations are more about them, and not you Chef AJ. They are most likely choosing behavioral or environmental factors that they themselves don't share. This is self-soothing. They are trying to reduce their worries about their own health, such as "I don't dye my hair, so I dodged that bullet." I agree wholeheartedly with Dr. Goldhamer about ignoring all the haters, and surrounding yourself with loving, caring people and communities. Blessings to you, now and always!

I really appreciate you both talking about choosing the treatment that will help your quality of life. I refused chemo treatment (stage 4 colon cancer age 54) and people thought I was crazy not to "fight!". The cancer center ended up allowing me into an immunotherapy study that has made my quality of life so much better these last 10 months and allowed me to do an ostomy reversal surgery that normally would have never been done if I had been immunocompromised. Such tough decisions, but my advice to those of you out there with advanced stages of cancer is to do what feels right in your heart and ask the very hard questions of your doctor, as you both mentioned here. Thank you for this! You will help so many people with your openness through this all.

Chef AJ......I'm so sorry. I was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer a couple of years ago through a routine scan. They were tiny and removed successfully. Thanks to your information and doctors such as Dr. Goldhamer, I now go for a CT scan every 9 months instead of every 6 months. I have so far avoided chemo etc....but I still am facing a 90 percent reoccurrence rate......BUT that rate is based on people who do not eat whole food plant exclusive.
A while back I read a story on line about a woman that had dealt with cancer throughout her life 4 times! She lived to 103 and died of natural causes.
So.....we have lots of hope there!😘
Will be thinking and praying for you.🙏🏼🤗

fabulous discussion. I am an SOS (no salt, no oils, no sugar) vegan myself, plus....i've been to True North, twice....in the last 10 years for 7 day....and longer, medically supervised water fasts. This discussion addressed my own fears about.....hmmm, maybe, as an SOS vegan, i am being stupid. No. After this interview, I am 100% convinced that True North, Goldhamer, Chef AJ.....SOS vegan is the way to go. Thank you for your candor, Chef AJ and Alan Goldhamer. I truly appreciate you both ! The world would be a much better place if people had less fear and shame about their illnesses....and were more open. Chef AJ is setting a great example for us all. We can all learn So much from each other, just by be open to a conversation.

I don't think that there's any reason for you to feel guilty or bad about how you lived. NO ONE can live perfectly because it's impossible to know everything you need to do to be perfectly healthy. No one knows. As for treatment, listen to your heart ! I love everything Dr. Goldhamer said around minute 50. It doesn't matter that people might judge you. The only thing that matters is how you decide will be the best choice for you.

I am also someone that despite an exceptional diet has struggled with my health.
I have learned that childhood trauma can have a significant impact on up regulating a nervous system and create health issues. Has definitely contributed to health struggles for me.
If you haven't done nervous system or trauma work, I highly recommend it.
This is not a judgment. Or even a suggestion that is what caused your cancer just something I'm noting with myself.
Also… If you happen to see this, I specialize in anxiety and panic disorders and have developed a very effective therapy for helping people. Please don't think I'm suggesting that these things caused your cancer.
You may never know why exactly you got cancer. The important thing is you know how to best support your health and you've got a whole team of the best of the best to help you recover.
    Hugs and prayers!

The genetic variables must have been the factor. We’ll never really know. One thing I do know is you are a great person and I truly wish you the very best.

Thank you so much for having made the effort and taken the time to conduct this educational interview with Dr Alan Goldhamer regarding your recent lung cancer diagnosis, Chef AJ.
The opportunity for us to hear this situation discussed between two poised, composed, and caring individuals that we have so appreciated for years now is a generous gift.
Above and beyond how important it is to your appreciative fans to hear you, see you, and understand better what you are experiencing as the days unfold, there is the importance of the very fact that you are discussing this frightening issue publicly and the opportunity that it offers them to discharge amorphous fears that obstruct them from speaking freely to other people, in their own lives, who have equally frightening diagnoses.
I love you and Dr Goldhamer. I admire both of you for your courage, your tenacity, your determination, your herculean work ethic, and your wonderful sense humor. Thank you both for your interest in us, our health, the health of our loved ones, and your modeling of Public Service in its most intimate way. I'm delighted that the two of you are such good friends and I send very special regards to Charles as you all make your way through this experience as mutually supportive friends in a trying situation!!!

Chef AJ, you have to do what is best for you !! There will always be negative nellie's in this world, their opinion means nothing!! Close the door on their voice!! They are not in your shoes. You go forward the best you can, you do not owe anyone an explanation. If people cannot see the love you have in your heart in all you have shared, and who you are , they are the individuals deprived. I have watched you on TH-cam for quite some time. You are an amazing individual!! May healing be upon you, guidance and wisdom. You are definitely loved! ❤️

Thank you for this show. I have such deep respect for how you are dealing with your diagnosis Chef AJ, and how you are communicating with your community onilne. Your public interactions are helping me deal with my Crohn's diagnosis (at 72 years old!) - as a vegan, I was initially upset that I got an autoimmune disease and Dr. Neal Barnard and John Robbins really helped me. John Robbins did an amazing online session in which he talked about his postpolio diagnosis and talked about the issue of shame and causality. But I am not aware of anything he's done since then. Your continuing conversation is very helpful. I hope it's helpful for you as well!!!!! Sending love and light to you, dear mentor.

It is a human tendency to look for cause, especially amongst those who promote a health-enhancing lifestyle. We don't eat WFPB and adopt the lifestyle because we believe we will live forever by it. We do it to make sure that we thrive in life and are not consciously contributing to our own demise. Chef AJ, you are vibrant, kind and generous. Whatever the outcome, you have made a difference for many of us. Sending you Aloha from the Big Island. Stay positive, breathe, and enjoy every moment. Love you!

People say the most ridiculous things and should keep their uninformed opinions to themselves! As my sister said to me when I was diagnosed, “even healthy people get sick”. Dr. Goldhammer also said this in today’s video. You are on my prayer list Chef A.J. I will be sending good thoughts, vibes and prayers on the 17th. P.S. You are a VIP to me as you are to countless others 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

Chef AJ, this was very interesting. I always enjoy you and Dr G together. It is presumptuous of the public to give you their opinions of the possible reasons you got cancer. If all the opinions were true, most people would have it because the things mentioned are so commonly used by people. I appreciate your openness about your diagnosis because I believe you are helping people with and without cancer. It hit me hard when you announced your cancer because I don't want you, such a good and kind and generous person, to go through anything difficult. I care about you and feel a great fondness towards you through your videos and how you have helped me and countless others. I would love to attend the event you spoke about next summer and will look into it. It surely boasts a fabulous lineup of speakers! Lots of love and hugs from Vi in NY.

Great show today Chef AJ- Dr Goldhammers a straight talking guy ! 😂I agree that it’s much better to talk about things and make them public as holding things in is very stressful- which no one needs… we your community love and support you… just ignore the haters please - after all WHO are they??? Nobodies!
You have such a great support system at True North and with all the groups you are going to and people you are talking to…so carry on being honest and helping other people by being so …ok! Love from the UK 😇

Chef AJ your food lifestyle is helping your body, the planet and animals. We can’t control all the chemicals in our environment or what we are breathing in. Those who criticize you will do so no matter what. There are some who just have to defend their own bad habits. WFPB is the best diet for dealing with your situation. Prayers that you will be successful in your fight against cancer. I have faith that you will beat this.
