Hope: The Harvey Milk Speech as Read by Ian McKellen #bensound #harveymilk #ianmckellen #pride Artist, Dad, & Hobbit LIVE EVERY M/W/F AT 9AM CST ssavaart.com
Thank you for putting this out there. I genuinely started crying while listening to this video. I just hope I can look to a more open world in the future
My dad grew up in the Bay Area and was there around the time of all of this. He explained the story to me, how significant it was in the moment, and now I want to watch the movie and read about it.
Hearing things like this, knowing other people are out there, is a wonderful reminder to have. I'm in a family that is mostly not accepting. I can't come out to them, and I don't think I ever will. It's easy to feel lost and alone when you live somewhere and around people that wouldn't accept the real you. Things like this, though, help remind me that there are people out there that DO accept me. My close friends, my closest family, and those in communities like this one. That, even the ones that don't fully understand, have taken the time to learn so that they will one day understand. It helps me feel a sense of peace. That I don't have to prove anything to those people that don't accept me, as honestly, they're not worth my time to prove myself too. Great artwork once again, Scott, and thank you for continuing to be such a wonderful person! ^^
Thank you, Scott for helping me in my art journey, It always brings me joy that you inspired me, help me draw my favorite Star Wars Character Obi-wan just by your videos, so there is one thing I wanna say. "May the force be with you, always." (PS: I was Lego Goku from before)
Thanks Scott. I’ve been on edge these past few weeks. About to be unemployed. I barely have the attention span to watch more than 5 seconds of a video sometimes. This one, I watched the whole way through. The speech was inspiring, and, of course, your art is beautiful.
Scott, Please post this video on your tumblr page. I want to reblog it there. It's... yeah. I live in a homophobic country where any kind of lgbtqia people are forbidden and illegal, and I'm a bisexual woman, so this quote hits home.
All you people out there no matter what you identify as, or where you come from, you are valid and worthy of love and acceptance. I wish you all safety and happiness ❤
it's very comforting to know one of my favorite art content creators isn't also against my own existence like some of my friends, family, and like the many other content creators I've unfollowed before because of it. it's refreshing, thank you scott
Thanks Scott and this message resonates with me as person with color and disabilities. I hope one day we can all get enough love and support against the prejudice and segregation we all go through. I hope we can live a better tomorrow. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week but someday for all minorities of all races, genders, orientations and disabilities to thrive.
Beautiful and ever so timely. I watched the biopic movie about Milk's life, starring Sean Penn, and wad very moved. Your art honours Harvey Milk's courage and memory. Thanks. I wish everyone a peaceful and joyful Pride month. 🌈
I literally started crying 😢 I am lucky to live in a state that gives me rights. As both a homosexual and a nonbinary person, this hit close to home. The rest of my family live in states in which women no longer can have abortions, where black people are being beaten, where lgbtq+ people are discriminated against. Thank you for putting yourself out there Scott, you are both a role model and an activist for all of us!
A beautiful speech memorialized by an incredible actor. I am so glad to hear this as backing for a wonderful video, Scott. It's so important that our lgbt youth know where we've come from, and how loved and wanted they are. Our history is beautiful, may our future be beautiful too.
I go to a Christian school and I get that they don’t support people being gay but they are going to far to prevent it. They recently sent out a email about a new rule were people can hold hands or give hugs. I have a friend who always could use a hug but now when school starts again I won’t be able to hug her. Also as I said I go to a Christian school, and God says to be nice to people even if they are different.😢
oh I love that speech so much. If anyone wants to know more about that time, theres the Oscar winning movie "Milk" about Harvey Milk. also the screenwriter of said movie wrote a book about his experience in San Francisco/growing up gay and Mormon with a disabled single mom and its genuinely the best book I have ever read: Mama's Boy by Dustin Lance Black
I was on the live but my stuff was glitching. Thank you Scott for making me aware of the hardship my community has gone through and thank you for supporting us all.❤ From the bottom of my heart thank you. You've inspired me to do so much you were a big reason for me living right now and I can never repay that ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🤎🖤
As a queer transmasc person this hits hard… even with the world being very hard for us at the moment, it’s looking to to community and friends and people trying their best and making the world better in their own small ways that remind me… perhaps it will be okay I struggled a lot with my future; I never saw another trans man all grown up saying ‘hey, I live and I have a job and friends and etc.’ and that instilled so much fear in my heart of myself that I had to work through, and I still am, but it is hope that literally kept me alive. There’s a show called kamen rider geats which I think is about this and joy is resistance: very good show if you like battle royales and science fantasy
Thank you for this Scott.. today I went to the gay pride in my city, I wanted to feel good about it but no, my body felt bad for the entire day (i'm bisexual and I think i'm autistic too, it was loud and overwelming). This video here is a little hug that my heart really needed ❤
WOW.... after listening to this I just sat in silence for some reason. Just kinda frozen in time I guess you can say. It was a lot to soak up all at once I guess I wanted to make sure I got it all before starting my day. 😔😔😏
Scott, I know I’m a bit late commenting, but I appreciate you. I got injured during pride month, just an accident. This video, your clear support, and just knowing that my art idol isn’t tolerant of the people who openly hate on people like me; It makes me so happy to find such a loving person. IDK how to express my feelings well, but from the bottom of my heart, I want you to know that I am so grateful for all that you do. Warm hugs from one slightly less closeted trans girl. ❤️🏳️⚧️
i am a 21 year old queer and transgender man. i have never heard this before and im honestly shocked that i havent. in a world that seems to want to kill me i have hope - maybe not hope for right now, but hope that i will be hope to the children i teach and the people i meet when i tell them where i grew up and yet they see me still standing here. thank you for this
Thank you for this video, as a young demisexual person who's had a rough life (not necessarily because of my asexuality) and who's trying to be happy on pride month, I needed to hear that. Lately hope has not been there for me, but I still want to hold on to the future I dream about.
I came on to this post coming to share that I had gotten you trans poster and I didn’t even know what video I was clicking on. Every time time I click on you videos i am so glad I did,you are such an inspiration to my and it’s not just your art. Thank you so much.
I didn’t know Ian McKellen did this. The art, the speech, and Harvey Milk, all beautiful. RIP🫶🏼 (Very surprised to learn it seems Harvey Milk is not well known outside of California)
Thank you for putting this out there. I genuinely started crying while listening to this video. I just hope I can look to a more open world in the future
