For Edward, it seems like there was a mix of descriptions because his eyes definitely weren't blue-green as a vampire. Literally started thinking of someone I could give a faithful vocal portrait and ended up desperate since I couldn't even depict my own parents I live with.
That’s interesting with the Frankenstein one. One thing they didn’t mention in the description they gave you (perhaps because it’s not said directly describing the monster) but Victor Frankenstein’s goal was to make an incredibly attractive person. Tall, long hair, bold features. So when the monster turned out horrific, it was in part the corrupted beauty (not just straight up hideousness) that made him particularly terrifying. Anyways, your monster was really neat! He wouldn’t have had a belly though, even being book accurate 😂
"I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open. His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful." The book also describes his hair as lustrous.
Everyone pretty much got it at the pink cardigan (unless you’ve never seen or read HP), when I knew was at the hair description with a bow, and it was obvious (if you’ve read the books) after the green tweed cloak with the green hat with flaps.
What made the Monster in Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus so terrible and terrifying wasn't just the grotesque appearance as opposed to the beauty that Frankenstein had planned, but the sheer intelligence of the Monster made him a sadistic and horrifying threat!
I was surprised I recognized Sherlock Holmes immediately from the description, since I've never read the books. Frankenstein's monster, while I never read that book either, makes more sense that I got it, because I've looked that up before. I thought Edward Cullen might by Percy Jackson, so it shows how much I didn't read either character's books.
My highschool senior year English class named Frankenstein's monster Jorge. I mentioned that it seemed a little mean to call him a monster and my whole class latched onto it and spend days coming up with a name. We even got out teacher to call him Jorge, I be it on accident.
Lol I was conflicted between Edward and Percy. What gave it away was "perfect". Percy is describes as troubled, so I would expect him to look like he's up to no good. No one would describe him as perfect appearance wise.
Knew Sherlock almost instantly. He was always described as 'gaunt and eager' which is just such an odd pairing so I always remembered it. Watson always described Holmes so beautifully as if he were an angel
Isn't he associated with a deerstalker rather than a cloth cap, though? That part would have thrown me (had I guessed Sherlock Holmes, which I didn't 😂).
the first character really reminded me of the pigeon lady from home alone 2, the colour scheme is so similar too! I love the whole series, it's so creative and enjoyable to watch✨️
I've read Frankenstein recently for school, and I love how cursed your interpretation was the book description is way different from the pop culture, stitched together, with scars and neck bolts green zombie man. The monster's creator actually calls him beautiful
But then seconds later he is disgusted by his own creation and even later in the Book we learn that everyone who sees it is just scared and disgusted as well
@@quetzalcoatl9134 yeah, it has to do with the creepy yellow eyes as far as I know, as well as the disturbing macabre nature of Frankenstein's monster's appearance
@@quetzalcoatl9134 I interpreted the disgust that occurs as being an unsettling feeling that culminates as you watch the monster and see that he is unnatural and just wrong. At first glance, he is beautiful; Victor took his time, and specifically chose each part of him to create something beautiful, but the creation of the monster is just inherently wrong, and deeply unsettles anyone that see it.
I am loving this series! It also makes me really curious how you would draw the Percy Jackson characters from their descriptions, so if you continue this series it would be really cool to see one (or more) of those.
As soon as I read black hair, grey eyes and wearing a cloth cap, I instantly knew it had to be Sherlock. Jazza guessing Count Olaf and Ebenezor Scrooge made me start doubting myself a bit lmao
it was "a 'thin, eager face' with a long thin nose" that clued me in and "cloth cap and tweed suit" confirmed it and Scrooge got me second guessing the same as you.
I thought the same initially, but the cloth cap threw me. I pictures what he actually drew, and thought it might be a Wodehouse character. But that would be a lot more obscure than any of these.
I am far too pleased with myself for guessing Sherlock and Frankenstein out from their descriptions and the pictures Jazza drew, so well done there! You managed to not know where you were going and get the absolute correct vibe for these classic and oft-reinterpreted characters.
To be honest, I studied Frankenstein to much during my studies and I immediately recognized the description. It is like the better-known passage of the book, so I had it when you said "black lips". Mary Shelley you're an horror Queen.
Same! But his influence on it when he drew him as "fatter" with a big belly threw me a lot. Like first thought was interview with a vampire, then F's monster. But He definitely added in some v important details that weren't voiced in the description.
These descriptions are missing just a bit that would've really steered you in the right direction more. Like Frankenstein's monster is specifically beautiful with overblown proportions because Victor was trying to create a beautiful creature and thought he succeeded until the monster woke up and uncanny valley sunk in. And Edward is most definitely described as pale indeed, with gold/amber/black colored eyes depending on when he'd fed.
Yeah! From what I remember reading, I thought Frankenstein’s monster was supposed to be muscular as well! He wasn’t working with very thorough descriptions
I love that you’re blindly drawing these characters from their book descriptions, they look awesome and exactly how similarly we’d imagine what they’d look like
Can you do a video with book characters adding details about their personality? For example, Umbridge is described as "irritating" in the book, and Edward is "distant". You could do it by using descriptions of their tones: Edward does not actually smile but "chuckle" (that word literally comes up 25 times per page). It would be so fun to see how the personality affects the appearance :)
Confidentially guessed Umbridge, immediately guess Edward Cullen but then the more I thought about it the less I was convinced, had no idea with Frankenstein’s mister which confirms what Jazza was saying, knew it was Sherlock, and screamed that it was Jazza till the reveal.. haha this was fun I love this series!
i love that i immediately recognized the description of the creature the second i heard “pearly white teeth” and “yellow skin”, so to see ur unknowing drawing of the creature is so fun to me, i love how you went about it it’s fascinating
The Frankenstein one was very easy for me, mostly cause I recently rewatched a video on the original story. He's actually described as being generally fairly good looking, iirc, apart from you know, having yellowed skin and visible arteries and really creepy eyes. But his teeth and proportions are nice!
I'm guessing the last one is Frankensteins monster, based on victorian era and disproportionate body (which could just mean a longer torso or arms compared to expectations); but he's described as incredibly beautiful, eerily so. So I can be way off the mark. Edit: woohoo I was right! hahaha. I think the part of unnatural beauty is missing from the description. He's supposed to give an uncanny valley sort of feel, even though he looks really good. Because Frankenstein wanted to create a "perfect" new lifeform, but it goes against the nature and ended up creating a monstrosity in a human shell. (I mean we can argue all day who the monster is in the books, but Adam looks the part)
The monster never had a name because names humanise someone. The monster was constantly reminded he was no human. The name Prometheus is from the novels original name. The modern Prometheus in reference to the Greek myth of Prometheus who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans.
@@coralhughes1920 It's been ages since I read the book, and for some reason in my mind I remember him calling himself Adam at some point... Okay, I did a quick wiki (yes, shame on me), and it seems like he did say something along the lines of "I ought to be thy Adam" to Victor. I took it as a name.
When you drew Edward and made the shorter parts of his hair darker, I- you can literally see in yourself next to your drawing, having the same haircut and since the hair is shorter and the skin is peaking through, short/buzzed hair appears lighter than longer hair, because it doesn’t throw shadows on itself.
Yeah I feel like for the movie they're like "they have to know he's a vampire. He should look vampirish " but the book is more like "he should believably be able to pass for a regular highschool student."
I thought Sherlock right away and was so happy I got it right, I always pictured him nobler and less aged, but maybe it doesn't describe him like that.
I think people today are just conditioned to think every protagonist has to be a tall, muscular Chad due to hollywood casting choices, when in fact many books were written with fairly average people in mind, and in reality most heroes are not supermodels, or they'd be modeling instead of hero-ing.
Knew sherlock right off the bat. Just from the "gaunt, eager face and bushy eyebrows" part. Ive read ALOT of sherlock holmes stories 🤣🤣 guessed Frankensteins monster pretty fast too. I was surprised when you drew the belly being so big though, that threw me off for a moment and I started to wonder if I was wrong but I kept going back to the thin black lips part and just knew it had to be the monster. As a bookworm I really enjoy watching these videos and think it would be cool if this became a longer series
I felt like he did it to throw us off for catching on too fast cuz he guessed it right away and then realized if he did it would have to look more "classic monstery". Nowhere was described extra weight or a cartoonish vest and tiny buffoonish head- just a tall frame, obviously expecting proportionate sized head.

I think your creators missed the mark on Edward. Like all the vampires in the Twilight series, Edward is described as being impossibly beautiful. At various points in the series, Bella compares him to the mythical Greek god Adonis. His skin is "like marble"-very pale, rock hard, ice cold, and sparkles in the sunlight.
It was human version - with green eyes, that was depicted. Not his vampire self. But, it kept me and him guessing until the last minute because we both kept saying no, then scratching that guess only to go right back to it. But, through out, I kept Edward in the back of my head - but at the human version. The vampire version is repeated referenced, but the human version is rarely referenced, even in the books. So, I like that the human version was the one that was mentioned in the challenge. Something just little different, but still popular!
@@KhaozVoid Honestly, Vampmeyers don't sparkle, either. That is just how Bella described then, but she got it wrong. Or rather, Stephenie Meyer didn't specify correctly. However, she fixed it in Midnight Sun. The facets of their skin refract light, like a prism. With many colors bouncing off them, they actually looks like they are on fire. Refract, not sparkle, LOL!
I have long thought that it would be fascinating to see how people would illustrate Tolkein's work, uninfluenced by all the adaptations. This video is fun to see, even if it is with other well-known characters.
You painted the human Edward :P his looks before turning were described once in the series. Bella really wanted their kid to have his green eyes. But the after look was accurate in the movie lol
part of it is that you drew pre-vamp edward, bc vamp edward IS pale and causes the uncanny-valley effect in humans bc of their general "otherness," "humans can tell that they're not" or whatever, and, particularly, vamps have either red eyes (human-eaters), black eyes (hungry), or gold/amber eyes (animal-eaters), human ed had the blue green, but that is from edward's (or Carlisle's??) own admission, bella never actually saw him and described him herself
And also it says modern setting which means whoever made the description messed up cuz if it was his human form it would be long ago. And the eyes were green not blue green. And he was lanky compared to his brothers but when Bella saw him alone she realized he wasn’t lanky. Whoever wrote the description got it off
This is the first time I've watched Jazza in over a year. Me and my (super toxic) ex used to watch Jazza together and I finally was able to come back without feeling triggered. Jazza is just to amazing to forget. I love you, Jazza!! I missed you 💔
Ooh, I'd love to see you do some of Jane Austen's characters! I know the descriptions aren't always that detailed, but it'd still be cool. Dickens has some excellent descriptions of characters in his stories.

Stephanie Meyer said her perfect Edward would be Henry Cavill, who originally got the part, but 4 years passed before filming and he was 24 years old, producers were concerned he couldn't look 17 and the part was recast with Pattinson. I believe he would have been wonderful as Edward Cullen...we'll never know!!

Edited to say I've read twilight a lot (millennial don't judge) and knew instantly it was Edward and what u drew was what I used to picture in my head until the movies came out ur amazing
Wow! I really like your art style! As someone who's always drawn outside in, so to say, I love watching artists who start with the base colouring and work their way out. It's a really interesting technique... I'd love to try it! I think you're very talented!! But, whoever gave you the description for Edward missed the mark. They seem to be taking descriptions from when Edward was human and as a vampire. In the books Bella describes Edward (and the rest of the Cullens) as having pale white skin and golden eyes - with her descriptions for Edward's eyes adding more detail like liquid amber, and warm butterscotch. His eyes are green as a human, and he'd have a warmer skin tone too. As a vampire they are described as being "almost unnaturally white".... maybe your team thought those descriptors would make it too easy for you to guess who it was?. Still, it did a disservice to you and your version of Edward (Edward would never wear a letterman jacket)..... perhaps you could revisit Edward and do a second version that's more true to his vampire nature?
I absolutely loved Frankenstein's creature, mostly because we got to draw him by the book for an English class back in my Sophomore year. As soon as I read his description, I immediately started losing my shit bouncing up and down with joy and excitement to see what Jazza would conjure up. I was crunched for time when I made mine, so I cut corners by depicting him wearing the cloak he finds, which actually helped me tremendously in getting a haunted look in his eyes by covering half his face with hair from the clock's hood being pulled up.
I discovered your channel when your first Painting Characters video showed up in my feed. Still one of my favourite videos to this day. Super cool to see you do another!
I think people get Edwards looks wrong. Twilight is written from Bellas perspective and she was madly in love with him. So Edwards description was very tainted by Bellas positive opinion of him.
vampires in that universe are supposed to be utterly beautiful to humans as a means of attracting "dinner". everyone in that universe found all the Cullens insanely attractive.
@@mxloverman2898 Well, all Cullens are very much above average (especially when you consider Edward is 17 (have you looked at actual 17 year olds?) but Belas exaggerated view of Edward is what I was getting at
And Edward didn't consider himself beautiful. He considered himself flawed and monstrous. The exaggerated features (given to make them more appealing to their meals) seen as groteqsue and embarrassing. When Rob Pattinson did the role, he read Twilight for Bella's "perfect" version. Then he read the draft of Midnight Sun for Edward's "flawed" version, then worked with a compromise that was found somewhere in the middle. Both in looks, composure, and personality, and character to find the real Edward himself.
I loved seeing your interpretation of The Creature from Mary Shelley's _Frankenstein._ I knew who it was from the description straight away (since I'm an English instructor, and I default to _Frankenstein_ when I have to teach how to analyze a literary work), and it was a delight to see how befuddled you were when you put together this smiling strange character. Ahh, he looks like how he could've been had Victor spent one millisecond welcoming The Creature into the world rather than running out of the house to hide in the courtyard until morning... But then we wouldn't get the court case, framing for murder, and the chase through the Arctic, so....sacrifices, sacrifices. Great video!
I think the only accurate depiction I've seen is the cover by Kamil Vojnar for the 1998 edition by Bantam Doubleday. If he's never read the novel, Erik's description is definitely going to throw him for a loop.
I love this series. When you said toad, black velvet bow and pink cardigan I knew it was umbridge. Also, I thought of Edward Cullen, Percy Jackson or maybe Jason grace for the Edward one, I don’t know why I guess it’s just my own fan girl instincts. You should definitely do some Percy Jackson characters. I mean, the adaptations (movies) were the least accurate you can be, and the show is not focusing on appearance being accurate, whereas the plot and the essence and personality of characters. Even if there’s pretty accurate fan art, it would be really cool to see your way of doing some characters, since some changes are made in fan art. I definitely want to see that
I also thought that it was Jason grace or Luke Castellen but it never said anything about a scar on his eye and with the perfect 17 year old and the blue green eyes fits Percy so I also thought of him as well
The first one, I immediately thought it was a Harry Potter character, especially when you said wizard. Second one, I knew right away it was Sherlock Holmes as soon as I saw the description of a tweed suit. Third one, without looking at the comments, I probably would have guessed Edward. I did not figure out the last two. This is my first time watching one of your videos and it was pretty cool. I am amazed by digital artists. It seems too complicated to me. I just like my paper and pencils and the simplicity of it.
I knew the next to last one. There isn't many other choices. I really enjoy these "Painting characters EXACTLY as described in the book" videos. a lot. They are part drawing and a bit of trivia.
@@tiasmith3499 The Frankenstein in the movies didn't exactly match up with the book's description. Shrek is based on a book. A teenage Shrek might fit too. He just went bald and his skin might've darkened as he got older.
In the book, bella said the the skin of the Cullens are paler than hers, and edward doesn't have blue-green eyes, He has golden eyes. But he had green eyes when he was still a human.
I actually really love this I thought you were going to know the character and then get a description and remake them but it turns out you had no idea any of them at all and went only by description and that's super fantastic
Man I was so stoked when I read the description for Frankenstein's creature (I will not call him a monster), I've read the book twice so I knew it immediately when seeing the gigantic height and yellow skin, and the Victorian setting just cemented it haha
It had me thinking Phantom of the Opera cuz while he isn’t tall he’s yellow with his nose falling off his face and he needs a full mask not the typical half mask
@@karenalynne The Creature looks more like a goofy troll, rather than the eloquent, articulate person from the book. He would not have had his belly showing either. Also, the 'Victorian setting' is incorrect. Frankenstein was published in 1818, the year before Victoria was born.

God seeing you draw lights a fire in me. In December 2023 my first book will be published, and with how awesome your drawings are it makes me want to see my characters in real life. Sadly, while I can write stories, I can't really draw anymore lol.

Hey, book nerd/bookseller here: The thing that got me with Edward Cullen is that his eyes were only blue-green before he was transformed. In a modern setting, according to the books, his eyes could have only been either ember or black depending on how hungry he was because he was a vampire. With his eyes being blue-green, he should have been depicted in the period of time he lived in before he died for it to be book accurate.
sherlock’s nose is more famously ‘hawk-like’, with sunken in eyes and his chin is also prominent and square, though I think if your character wasn’t smiling he’d look just like him!

I do know who Count Olaf is and I never thought it was him. I knew it was Holmes as soon as he started drawing.
Isn't he associated with a deerstalker rather than a cloth cap, though? That part would have thrown me (had I guessed Sherlock Holmes, which I didn't 😂).

I've read Frankenstein recently for school, and I love how cursed your interpretation was
the book description is way different from the pop culture, stitched together, with scars and neck bolts green zombie man. The monster's creator actually calls him beautiful
But then seconds later he is disgusted by his own creation and even later in the Book we learn that everyone who sees it is just scared and disgusted as well
@@quetzalcoatl9134 yea, you know, then the monster kills his family, gets mad bc everyone hates him and then they kill each other 😅😅
@@quetzalcoatl9134 yeah, it has to do with the creepy yellow eyes as far as I know, as well as the disturbing macabre nature of Frankenstein's monster's appearance
@@yvettenicole1266 yes, thank you, someone who's actually read the book
I am loving this series! It also makes me really curious how you would draw the Percy Jackson characters from their descriptions, so if you continue this series it would be really cool to see one (or more) of those.
i'm drawing Percy right now, lol.
I was thinking of Percy Jackson while he was drawing Edward
@@alessandrahayes8544 same. I said, if that’s not Edward than it has to be Percy! This video was so much fun.

I was thinking the exact same thing because that movie completely miscast the characters
That's going to be my new thing. Calling up random contacts, asking them an absurd question, saying "HA!!" and then hanging up without explanation.
It’s definitely SH, I didn’t have second thoughts. But the one he drew was more like the characters he thought…
I immediately thought the same xD
The description doesn't say anything about him having that goofy grin.
All I could think was goth shrek while he was drawing 😂
Same! But his influence on it when he drew him as "fatter" with a big belly threw me a lot. Like first thought was interview with a vampire, then F's monster. But He definitely added in some v important details that weren't voiced in the description.
same, the "victorian era" was a clue in for it too. :)
When it said yellow skin I suddenly knew
@@sarahvp2003 Frankenstein (s' monster) wasn't Victorian tho. The book actually was set in the 18th century
And Professor Umbridge was supposed to have tweed and her face was supposed to look like a toad😅 the description they gave was more hobbit esque.
I love that you’re blindly drawing these characters from their book descriptions, they look awesome and exactly how similarly we’d imagine what they’d look like
"You're not supposed to ___, but I was having so much fun that I just kept going" is some grade A wholesome. Starting the day off right
Can you do a video with book characters adding details about their personality?
I thought the edward one was cedric diggory
I saw "pink" and "curly, brown hair" and immediately went *"DOLORES F U C K I N G UMBRIDGE!"*
@@jenniferwilcox7021 its the same actor
i love that i immediately recognized the description of the creature the second i heard “pearly white teeth” and “yellow skin”, so to see ur unknowing drawing of the creature is so fun to me, i love how you went about it it’s fascinating
The Frankenstein one was very easy for me, mostly cause I recently rewatched a video on the original story. He's actually described as being generally fairly good looking, iirc, apart from you know, having yellowed skin and visible arteries and really creepy eyes. But his teeth and proportions are nice!
It was easy for me too because I’m literally reading and studying that book right now lol
Adam? I think the name of Frankenstein’s monster was Prometheus…
@@meganjaime7728 he didn’t have a name, originally at least
The monster never had a name because names humanise someone. The monster was constantly reminded he was no human. The name Prometheus is from the novels original name. The modern Prometheus in reference to the Greek myth of Prometheus who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans.
@@coralhughes1920 It's been ages since I read the book, and for some reason in my mind I remember him calling himself Adam at some point...
Okay, I did a quick wiki (yes, shame on me), and it seems like he did say something along the lines of "I ought to be thy Adam" to Victor. I took it as a name.
@@easternhills1329 ah, I’m not far into the book so I haven’t seen that part yet. :)
Ever notice how drawing from imagination brings gradient shading whereas drawing from a reference entails more random, naturally realistic shading?
Yeah I feel like for the movie they're like "they have to know he's a vampire. He should look vampirish " but the book is more like "he should believably be able to pass for a regular highschool student."
As someone who mainly does digital it's so cool to see jazza digital paint! Digital painting illudes me so I'm low key taking notes

Same! The description screamed Sherlock to me 😀
I felt the same about how he added his own "rotundness" to Frankenstein's monster.
I quickly got the hint about Sherlock too
I felt like he did it to throw us off for catching on too fast cuz he guessed it right away and then realized if he did it would have to look more "classic monstery". Nowhere was described extra weight or a cartoonish vest and tiny buffoonish head- just a tall frame, obviously expecting proportionate sized head.
Same with Sherlock!!

I think your creators missed the mark on Edward. Like all the vampires in the Twilight series,
Edward is described as being impossibly beautiful. At various points in the series, Bella compares him to the mythical Greek god Adonis. His skin is "like marble"-very pale, rock hard, ice cold, and sparkles in the sunlight.
Agreed!! I was thinking in that realm it could be Jasper but it came to me more a Cedric Diggory, funny that he plays that one as well lol
I have read the books and seen the movies. Not shames to admit it lol. But dammit VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE! 😂
@@KhaozVoid
They ✨ _singe and burn_ ✨

Agree....I want to see all the charakters. ❤
Whoever wrote the description got it off
Green and pink is a lovely colour combination!

When the phrase 'thin, eager face' immediately triggers a memory of reading those exact words in the book lol. Clearly it made an impact lol
So Edwards description was very tainted by Bellas positive opinion of him.
this is a very good point- unreliable narrators are such an interesting concept
vampires in that universe are supposed to be utterly beautiful to humans as a means of attracting "dinner". everyone in that universe found all the Cullens insanely attractive.
Great video!
it's amazing how Mary was only 18 when she wrote that book
incidentally, a book written in 1815, set in the 1790’s,does not have a Victorian setting.
Would love to see him try to draw Erik from “The Phantom of The Opera”!
Oh my god that would be amazing!

Is there a book I don’t know about that states he had blue-green eyes? I thought they were simply green.
