I was sure he was gonna have some criminal evidence on it he was trying to get rid of, but I found nothing. Computer was clean. Guy was just crazy. His sister gave it to me so I can fix it for her mom. Ended up buying a low end model and swapped the motherboard, storage, processor and webcam. Worked. Didn't even have to reinstall Windows.
I'll be honest, I have been repairing equipment for a company that rents out video, audio and studio's for 13 years and still enjoying it. There are of course some parts that get boring. But I still love to work on a camera and repair it. even if it's just the replacement of another 3,5mm audio jack, and another, and another.
That’s what’s up man, I’m happy to hear you still have passion after all these years! Do you deal with customers directly? That’s usually the soul-draining aspect.
@SalemTechsperts depends if I'm on at the main building. I only deal with camera operators and other colleagues. But out on the field, I do deal with customers. That bit with the mechanics driving older cars because their sick of fixing other people's brand new junk is the truest thing I've heard in a WHILE. So! I own almost this exact laptop and I love it! *Technically* I have a GE 66 Raider but its not exactly the same. My hinges DID break but I mailed it back to the manufacturer and they repaired it "for free" (I never got a bill so I didnt pay anything even though it was past warranty) and I have replaced the thermal paste on the CPU/GPU 3 times but never on the VRMs. It works great, I can play ANY game I want on low settings and it has enough power to edit videos for work. I LOVE my GE 66 that I have had for almost 4 years and idk what I could replace it with 8.5 out of 10, would recommend!
14:00 I know the feeling man, I used to repair and customise blackberry phones before (they started using glue on everything) as a hobby. Then it tried to scale it up into a business but the monotony, the silly demands from people and UK customs taking months to process my repair parts killed it. It was really the latter as I could only afford to buy parts at cost when a repair job came in. In order to sustain it I took upfront payment for the repair parts hence why it was sold at cost and there was no charge for repairs because bloody customs took ages to pass through my repair components. So instead of people being charged £50 for a LCD screen I'd charge the same cost as the LCD replacement was about about a few quid. Because I loved doing it as a hobby....
man wish i had you in my area. don't know of any reputable places near me. i know my pc needs a good cleaning which i can't fully do myself and probably have my water cooling set up and thermal paste checked. so good at what you do man.
