To explain the ending: Jaiden got some horrible luck when attempting the elite four, losing half her team before fighting Flint. Because her remaining team members were all weak to Flint's fire types, she would have lost. However, her chat allowed her to retry the Elite Four battle since it was her birthday.

OKAY! Here's the explanation I alluded to in your first Jaiden reaction. At 16:23, when Jaiden was split in two, that was her playthrough diverting into two separate paths. Starting at 19:04, when Jaiden touches the starting points of the Elite 4 fights, the little glitches/flashes are showing what happened during her first playthrough, which she was doing on stream on her birthday. They wiped her entire team, but because of the circumstances of it being her birthday and just really poor luck with getting crit-hit constantly, the stream audience pretty much unanimously rallied for her to take a second shot at the E4 fights. That's what we see as the "canon" playthrough presented in the video. However, at the end, she felt she didn't deserve the win because she didn't "stay true" to the spirit of the Nuzlocke by getting a second attempt. Honestly, I side with her stream audience in letting her have that second chance, and the way she presented it instead of sweeping it under the rug was REALLY compelling storytelling.

Just so you know Kyle, most people who stream or Let's Play their Nuzlockes are actually playing them on their PCs using emulators. This makes it way easier to stream because of all the extra things an emulator can do (such as moving the screens around to where you want, or just the simple benefit of looking at the game on a bigger screen). It's not easy to record natural DS footage; I'm pretty sure you used to be able to install something called a Capture Card to do so, but since emulating is so much easier for most people, I think the Capture Cards are a lot harder to get nowadays.

@@theduckgoesmoo They can't legally do anything unless they can prove that a game was downloaded illegally, and it is NEVER worth the legal fees to attempt to do that anyway. So, I've never seen anyone DMCA'd for this issue. Emulators themselves are perfectly legal as well; the only grey area is if the game was pirated itself.
Still, those who still don't like pirating usually at least say "see here, I do legally own a physical copy" or something like that. Obviously not everyone, but it's what some do.
Not saying you have to do any of this if you don't want to, of course. But this is definitely what the vast majority of people playing old Pokemon games on video do nowadays; you can even emulate the 3DS games with a decent computer.

Random facts that you may want to know
    1.
Normally in Nuzlockes there’s a thing called Dupes Clause. This is a bonus rule where you don’t have to catch a Pokémon that’s either the same species or from the same family as a Pokémon you’ve previously caught. So if you caught a Bidoof as your first encounter and later on found another Bidoof as your new encounter, you can choose to not catch the Bidoof and get a reroll in the grass for something else.
Jaiden could have done that for Wooper and Quagsire but chose not to, which I find interesting.
    2.
Most players abide by the rule that the Nuzlocke doesn’t begin until you get your first Pokeballs. This is so that if your singular starter faints to a freak accident involving a Critical Hit, you can keep playing normally until you can gain a new party member.
If your starter dies after gaining Pokeballs but before catching a new member, you white out. In Nuzlocke rules, whiting out is a flat game over, run’s dead.
Alternatively if you have 6 Pokémon on you and a few in your PC after you white out, some would say it’s fine to ditch your original six that died and use your leftover Pokémon in the PC and try to keep playing. Nuzlockes really are built on how the player them self wants to play.
    3.
Zubat is not good. Golbat is okay but not good. Crobat however is very very good. Extremely fast with a super high Attack stat, having access to miles like Aerial Ace and Cross Poison can make Crobat a strong sweeper. The only downside is actually obtaining the thing.
Golbat can evolve when it gains enough Friendship points with you. You can increase a Pokémon’s friendship by walking with it, sending it to do battle, gaining levels, and various other ways that vary depending on which game you’re playing. This means you can theoretically get a Crobat fairly quickly and then murder everybody. Good Pokémon.
    4.
Death Fodder is a very common tactic in Nuzlockes. Preemptively bringing in a Pokémon you know you won’t use or has little legitimate value to a tough fight can ensure the survival of your primary team members. As depressing as that can be.
Also, Onix sucks. Pretty good defences, but it has an incredibly low Attack stat. Onix’s Attack is 45. Oddish has an Attack of 50. Just let that sink in.
    4.
20:33 Spiritomb and Sableye had zero weaknesses before Generation 6 when Fairy was introduced.
Dark is weak to Fighting and Ghost is weak to Dark and Ghost. Ghost negates Dark’s fighting weakness and becomes immune to it while Dark turns Ghost’s weakness to Dark and Ghost into neutral damage.
Dark is now also weak to Fairy, so now these two Pokémon have one weakness.

19:07 If you decide to do a nuzlocke, you can decide for yourself if you want to use legendaries or not.
The basic rules consists of nicknaming each pokemon, if faints it dies, and only catching the 1st pokemon in each route. Alot of the additional rules are open for the player to decide based on their skillset. There's no judgement in any way you play

Pursuit is a dark type move, and since Kirlia was a pure psychic type before obtaining it's Fairy type in Gen 6 (Pokemon X and Y.) I might as well address this too, Gyarados isn't a dragon type, it's water/flying (as weird as it seems.)

  • @downbeatdialga1341
    @downbeatdialga1341 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

3:01 If a Starter faints, and you’ve already obtained pokeballs and the pokedex, that’s game over for your Nuzlocke.
7:36 Pursuit is a dark type move that does double damage to a target that attempts to switch up. Kirlia’s naturally weak to dark moves so it really had no chance of getting out of that.
10:24 Froslass is just as terrifying as Jaiden depicts it here. Snow Cloak is an ability it has that gives it (I think) 30% more evasion, so you risk not hitting it. And if it boosts it’s evasion even more with Double Team, or Ominous Wind (a move that can boost all of your stats), it can sweep entire teams under the right conditions.
10:58 Abomasnow is an Ice and Grass type, so Fire Blast being a 4x effective move ideally would have beaten it. Unfortunately, Gyarados doesn’t have a high enough Special Attack stat (the stat that determines the effectiveness of long-ranged moves), so it was just shy of getting that kill in one hit.
11:29 As cold as it was on Jaiden’s part (pun intended), using an encounter you don’t want on your team as death fodder is a decent strategy if you need to prepare a different Pokémon to take out another.
12:56 Unless Jaiden’s got a DS or 3DS with a capture card to stream directly from a handheld console, it might’ve been an emulator. Not sure which though.
14:04 Mars and Jupiter’s Golbats have Giga Drain to counter rock and ground types that might normally pose a threat.
15:28 This was something I didn’t think Jaiden would do initially. Some people who’ve done Nuzlockes over the years incorporated additional rules, like a “dupes clause,” a duplicate clause. This means that if you’ve caught a Pokémon of an evolutionary line and it dies, you’re also not allowed to use any other member from its evolutions either. This would mean since “Lol the Quagsire” died, she wouldn’t be allowed to use “Oops the Wooper. Again though, it’s not a mandatory clause if you didn’t include it at the very beginning.
There are other clauses that one can incorporate, like not being allowed to heal at Pokémon Centers or use not allowed to use items. There’s another one where if all your Pokémon in one team die, you could choose to go back to your PC box, put all the dead mons in their grave, and then make a new team from any remaining encounters you still have. You could then keep doing this until you run out of encounters, and then it would be considered game over.
Also, since it’s a Nuzlocke, any items that you get that would normally be allowed to revive a Pokémon (revives, Max revives, revival herbs, Sacred Ash) can be sold for decent cash, since you’re obviously not allowed to bring back “dead” Pokémon.
On another note, you were probably told about this already, but Jaiden had terrible luck with her run against the E4.
During attempt 1, Colgate the Togekiss got killed by a Stone-Edge crit from Aaron’s Heracross.
Whoops the Quagsire and Flakes the Garchomp got killed by Bertha’s Rhyperior, which used Avalanche, a powerful ice type move that does double-damage if the user goes second.
By the Fire Type User Flint, she only had Torterra, Magnezone and Scizor, 3 Pokémon that are kindling for his team, so she stood no chance at that point.
I love the song that she included at the end and in the credits, as it’s a song from a spin-off Pokémon game called, “Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky.” That game is one of the best games in terms of story-telling in pokemon’s history. The song is called, “In the Hands of Fate,” a very melancholy song, and I cry almost every time I hear it. I’m even trying to learn to play it on the piano~

Basic of Basic Rules for Nuzlockes are:
-Only Catch the First Pokemon you encounter on a route.
    -Nickname every catch.
    -Faint = Death
I see those as the bare minimum of Nuzlockes.
I think this one is kind of a grey area:
-Black Out = Game Over, even if you have more usable Pokemon in the PC. (what is the opinion of anyone seeing this comment? I'm curious.)
I have seen additional rules and I think some are great additions and some are for the masochists out there or those who really really really want to make their pain excruciating.
    Such added rules include:
-No Potions *no recovery items used except PokeCenter*
I tried a Nuzlocke once and I had added these rules to help my beginner try to it:
-Repeat Clause: if the first encounter is of a species you already caught *living or dead* you may pass and get a different encounter.
-Shiny Clause: because of the Rarity of Shiny Pokemon, catching one is an undeniable urge. BUT you must keep it in the party, regardless of type disadvantages.

20:35 Yup. Both Spiritomb and Sableye have the Ghost/Dark dual typing which, before the introduction of the Fairy type in Pokémon X and Y, had zero weaknesses. This led to a popular hack called the Wondereye/Wondertomb hack where the above Pokémon would be hacked to have Shedinja's signature ability, Wonder Guard, which negates damage from attacks that aren't super effective.

Platinum is my JAM. Play it OFTEN even now. I have the same kind of DS as you but silver. Those things last an eternity and I love the bulky variety.
Here are the teams I use. I have a set team for each starter for both Lucas AND Dawn. I am literally pulling out my platinum copies to tell you these teams.
    Dawn Teams
Empoleon, Togekiss, Lopunny, Pachirisu, Roserade, and Mamoswine (yes entirely built from the anime since it was one of the seasons I watched. Namely Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh)
Infernape, Altairia, Gastrodon, Gardevoir, Probopass, and Froslass
Torterra, Staraptor, Clefable, Mismagius, Lumineon, and Lucario.
    Lucas Teams are
Empoleon, Crobat, Garchomp, Magnezone, Magmortar, and Abomasnow
Infernape, Gliscor, Porygon-Z, Weavile, Tangrowth, and Scizor
And my favorite and most used team is Torterra, Honchkrow, Gallade, Dusknoir, Milotic, and Electivire. I go OUT OF MY WAY to get some semblance of this team every generation. Electivire especially who is my favorite Pokémon.
Yes I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t just spot all 210 Pokémon in the game, but catches each line and evolves them, each form, (yes all Arceus AND Rotom forms as well and yes I will cheat to accomplish that) every cheat for the special event Pokémon to catch all 493 Pokémon (as of that generation)…and no. I somehow have never gotten the black card yet. Come close but that 100 streak in the battle tower is EVIL. And the Frontier brains are NO JOKE.
If you play platinum again, Nuzlocke or no, there’s SO much in that game people just don’t do sometimes. CONTESTS are fun. And the remakes actually did quite well ESPECIALLY the awesome gym rematches and the Cynthia battle to end all Cynthia battles. I think she secured herself as #1 in the remake in main series. (Although I hear Legends Arceus has a big one)
Jaiden did a WONDERFUL job with this nuzlocke. She did lose her 1st elite four. She had hoped to lose to Cynthia if anywhere for the story and just because Cynthia is meant to be feared. But Aaron and Bertha manhandled her if I recall. No that Elite 4 is not easy. Aaron has all the best bugs and those can be tricky since no one deals with late game bugs in single player. And those beat all your psychic and dark types surprisingly. Bug and Ice are TERRIBLE defensive but VERY fun offensive I think everyone sleeps on. (They do need better resists)

Prior to generation 6, the Ghost/Dark typing had no weaknesses. Ghost is weak to ghost and dark, which are both resisted by the dark type, and dark was weak to bug and fighting - ghost resists bug and is immune to fighting. Therefore, no weaknesses. But, in gen 6, the Fairy type came out, ghost didn't resist it, and dark was weak to it. So, the Ghost/Dark typing now has 1 weakness.

Nuzlockes are completely self imposed. If you want to use legendaries, fine go ahead. I personally wouldn't want to because if makes it easy, but all that matters is if its fun for you. Some elitists will probably whine, but ignore them.
I personally like to use standard 'hardcore' rules- level caps, no items in battle, set mode, no legendaries, but if you nuzlocke, play how you want. No reason to do it if its not fun for you.

Some other optional rules include "dupes clause" where if you caught something previously and it's your first encounter later you can skip it and catch your next encounter for that area, the choice for gift pokemon on whether they are your encounter for the area you receive them or not.
But basically since it's self-imposed rules, you can generally just do whatever you're comfortable with at the time.

Fun Fact about the Gen 4 games. When the Diamond and Pearl movie trilogy were being released they had limited time event items that allowed players to get Mythical Pokémon (basically Pokémon that are usually only available in events) a Darkrai (starred in the first movie with Time God Dialga and Space God Palkia), Shaymin (starred in the second movie with literal Satan Giratina) and Arceus (third movie with literal God). However despite the third movie being released and the event being coded and completed they never released the item for the event. This means that for over a decade you had to use a cheating device to access Arceus and it was never fixed, instead they remade the event recently in the remakes, which is sad because many prefer Platinum on DS over the remakes due to the remakes having glitches and were stripped of content.

To explain, her chat told her to try the Elite Four a second time after failing the first. First time around, she lost her Togekiss to Aaron's Heracross thanks to the move Stone Edge, THEN Bertha's Rhyperior overpowered her Garchomp and Quagsire, and by the time she made it to Flint, her remaining Pokemon were ALL weak to fire, sooo... yeah, that was a thing. She wasn't even expecting to beat Cynthia on either try.

There's really no universal standard for Nuzlocke rules; everyone goes about it differently. The general rules are:
~ The challenge doesn't begin until you gain the ability to catch Pokemon. (Just be sure you don't lose your starter in between getting Poke Balls and actually catching something.)
~ One encounter per area. If you fail it, you get NOTHING.
    ~ Nickname everrything.
~ Permadeath, either using a PC box as a graveyard or by just putright releasing the "dead" Pokemon.
Anything beyond that is on a per-player basis. Some opt for other restrictions such as legendaries (not every Nuzlocke restricts those, particularly if they're Randomizer games where tou can just casually find Ho-Oh in the grass), item use, gift Pokemon and what have you. They even have different policies for what happens to the series should you lose the challenge (delete the save or just give up on the challenge and play nornally).
Jaiden's next (and probably last) one is a unique Nuzlocke challenge called a Soul-Link, where you and your partner's encounters/gifts in the same area are "Linked" (and often given the same nickname to avoid confusion). And if one of your Pokemon dies, so does whichever Pokemon your partner had to correspond to it. They also added an extra restriction to that particular run where between Jaiden and her partner, no two Pokemon in active use could have the same PRIMARY type (if the Pokemon had two types, only the first one matters), but to be honest I'm not a fan of that rule. It's a little TOO restricting for my taste.

Then there’s the socially adjusted person in me who says: it’s a self imposed challenge of a children’s video game, who gives a shit?” This was a response to the negative comments on Jaiden’s channel regarding losing a nuzlocke and then doing the elite four again.

I don't know if the Shinx she accidentally killed had it, but if it has the Intimidate ability, Shinx is VERY good early game, because it's ability drops the opponent's attack just by sending it into battle. You can use this to make a hard hitting Pokemon like Cranidos or Purugly weaker as soon as you send it out, and then switch into something else to battle it in it's weakened state. You can even keep rotating it like this to make the opponent's Pokemon nearly helpless. Barring critical hits of course.

So you can use legendaries but it’s just frowned upon in the community cause they’re strong at that point. But what I’ve always thought that if you decide to do a Nuzelocke, you play how you wanna play. Also there’s a kind of “hidden” rule in the community called “Dupes/Species Clause”; basically if you catch a Pokémon on one route and your encounter is the same as the one you caught earlier, you can redo the encounter to get something different. The other version of this is if you catch a Pokémon and then encounter another Pokémon of the same “species” or evolution line, you can get a redo

  • @dudeman47731

There are a multitude of different rules that you can choose to follow, the basic nuzlocke rules are as follows:
If a pokemon faints you can't use it again
You can only catch 1 pokemon per new area
And you must nickname all caught pokemon
Any other rules are self imposed, you can choose to use legendaries if you want. You can use healing items if you want.

But she did admit defeat for the run when she lost half the team to the second Elite. Her chat supported her doing a re-do just to finish the run and see if she could defeat the Elite 4 and Cynthia.

20:31 Spiritomb is Ghost and Dark Type. That combination of types had no weaknesses until the introduction of fairy types in generation 6 (X and Y). Fairy types can also kill Dragon typel like Garchomp. The gen 4 remakes on switch (Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl) have fairy types on the pokemon that were in the original game and received a fairy typing gen 6 and onwards (Like Gardevoir and Togekiss). So if jaiden played the switch versions (this was before they released though), kept Devito the Ralts alive, evolved it into Kirlia and then Gardevoir and kept it until the final battle, She could of had an easier time defeating Spiritomb and Garchomp as she could use Devito and Colgate.

"Gyarados isn't a Water type" Water/Flying my dude. Just has some good type coverage moves like Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Earthquake, Ice Beam, Stone Edge, Power Whip, and Dragon Pulse.
"It has no weakness!?" Spiritomb is a Ghost/Dark type, a type combination that, up until Gen 6 introduced the Fairy type, canceled out each others weaknesses.
