Their rival Jan (it’s pronounce “yawn” btw) is a TH-camr named PokémonChallenges & despite what you think, he’s actually a pretty chill guy. Heck, his biggest advice for Nuzlockes is “just do whatever you want, it’s your Nuzlocke”. He doesn’t tear people down, he gives proper critique, & you shouldn’t write him off as a hater all because he criticize Jaiden & Alpharad.
I think he used to be way more cynical and heter-ish, if so he's come a long way since that

Quick claw wouldn't really save you anyway. it doesn't trigger very often.

Since you seemed confused, this is the end of *JAIDEN'S* Nuzlocke series. Alpharad's series is completely separate, they just collabed for this one.
- In the Johto games there's a shiny red Gyarados that you can catch
- Charizard died from the move Counter. A move that activates from taking damage from a physical attack and does twice the damage the user received. It's a notorious move that's known for screwing up Nuzlockes. Mainly from Wobbuffet
most fighting type pokemon may have this move. mostly Top or wobbuffet. depends on the randomizer settings.
every pokemon can have counter if you turn on random moves on wild pokemon.

In generation 2, the lake of rage has a guaranteed shiny Gyarados encounter. I assume the randomizer randomized the species but kept the guaranteed shiny part.
that it does. randomizer doesn't change the outcome of what you find, only the goes through and gives you another one. if it was gonna be shiny, it wouldn't change.

I believe, however, Shinies were stronger than most pokemon of the same species in Generations 1 and 2, if I remember correctly.
There are certain hidden values in pokemon that give you some bonus stats.
The so called IVs, individual values, can give up to 31 points to a stat at level 100 and are completely randomized for every pokemon (with some exceptions, but we don't need to go in depth).
You can, for example, have two lv5 squirtles and one may have 31IVs in HP and the other 15.
While at low levels this will not matter, at level 100 the first blastoise will have 16 hp more if the two fought the exact same battles and leveled in the same exact way.
Going back to Gen 1 and 2.
You could only have shinies with really Good IVs, so it was not that shinies were stronger, but that only the stronger could be shiny.
This is just a vague memory from years ago, so I await an expert opinion on the topic.

The hitmontop, killed the Darphels with Counter.
It's a double edged sword that makes an opponent take an attack, and deal back TWICE the damage- assuming it survives.
The attack the hitmontop tanked took it down to the red in one shot, then hitmontop retaliated.
It's like Explosion for fighting types.

It's not like Explosion. explosion has base power, counter does not.
Counter also does nothing to pokemon with low stats against you or pokemon who use status problems against you. counter can be hard countered with sleep powder, explosion only needs to take a turn to do something like 250 power against the enemY? I forget. I'm no kid anymore i don't remember pokemon facts like a nerd.

The thing you have to know about Alpharad: super lucky with an Icarus complex. He gets so lucky that he's pushing his luck too much most of the times.
Counter is a move that when the opposing Pokemon hits it with a physical attack, it automatically hits back with double the damage it just took. So regardless of Charizard being flying type, Counter doesn't give a damn and killed anyway.

Google used to mess up pokemon types, Dragon was Salamence Type and Ground was Onix type.
it was fixed before the video was posted so her comment about what google says is just untrue now. but it was true earlier.
You gotta watch Jan's reactions. I know it's a bit of react-ception, but he gives some cool knowledge of Pokemon. He's reacted to her other Pokemon vids, very fun.
The Platinum video might be the best of the Nuzlocke videos, but the HeartGold/SoulSilver Soul Link is definitely my favourite! It's insane just how much Jaiden got screwed over by the randomizer, while Jacob had a safer, more lucky run! Major props to both of them for being such entertaining content creators!
So with two player nuzlockes… there’s a few types. There’s standard co-op where you just play together at the same time, versus ones where you compete with many variations there like Cagelockes etc, and then you have soul links. And people have done group nuzlockes. The most I’ve ever seen was 5 people playing at the same time, the Penta-Op Nuzlocke.
these are just player created rules so it doesn't really matter how they choose to play 2 player and so forth :)

19:57 Azumarill is an absolute MONSTER. In Gen 4, Azumarill is a pure water type that can come with the ability Huge Power which doubles the attack stat of the user passively for free. Azumarill then also learns Belly Drum which cuts your HP in half and in return your attack goes up 6 stages, the maximum. Combine with the passive healing from the move Aqua Ring which gives the user 1/16 of their HP at the end of every turn AND Rain making Azumarill’s water move way stronger is TERRIFYING, especially if your lead Pokémon is a ground type like Nidoqueen.
In generation 6 and beyond, Azumarill gained the Water and Fairy typing, letting it slay dragons at the cost of it gaining weaknesses to Poison and Steel. Prior to this though, Water is only weak to Grass and Electric and resists Fire, Ice, And Water.
Wanna get even crazier? In Gen 5, Azumarill could replace Huge Power with Sap Sipped as a Hidden Ability. Sap Sipper makes the user of the ability completely immune to grass moves and if it gets hit by one, it’s Attack is increased by one stage. Azumarill is only held back by its moderately average stats, but in a normal playthrough it can be devastating.

The stream involved them having a randomized race for Ruby/Sapphire. Normal run not a Nuzlocke.
The catch though was that when they hit certain donation goals, they would spin a wheel to release a random Pokémon from their team to incentivize people to hand them money, for kids!
the reason they got shiny is that in this generation you get a free shiny gyarados and even better when randomized the shiny effect stays so you get a guaranteed shiny

Hitmontop survived fly, and hit back with counter, which does double damage.
Palkia's signature move is Spacial Rend which already packs a hell of a punch as is but also has an increased chance to land a critical hit. Mewtwo's good but he wasn't going to survive getting hit by that.
Legendaries get a bad rap for making the game too easy. but it's simply not true. I've lost lots of legendaries to normal run of the mill type pokemon.

@@TheUltimateRare Especially when you consider that many legendary/mythical mons have garbage level moves since they're not meant to be encountered outside their normal static spawns and/or giveaway events which usually set them to a higher level by default.
So, to clarify the death of Charizard to Hitmontop at 15:50, the move Hitmontop used is Counter. Counter says "if you survive a physical attack, deal twice that much damage to the Pokémon that attacked you". It's a dangerous move because it requires you to be hit, specifically by a physical attack and not a special attack, and it deals direct HP damage equal to twice the damage taken with no regard to stats or types.
There is a special attack counterpart (Mirror Coat), and one that works for both physical and special but only deals 1.5x damage instead of double damage (Metal Burst, which Bastiodon uses to kill Empoleon in the finale).
Jan did react to this animation, he was upset because Jaiden didnt show most of her "impossible" fights against legendaries, he really wanted to see them
Jan is a delight and the pseudo-rivalry bromance he has with Alpharad is one of the best aspects of TH-cam
in reference to the salamence thing, basically google messed up and called the dragon type the "salamence" type, they did this with the rock type too by calling it the "onyx" type, these errors were fixed shortly before the video came out

counter is wobbuffets move. if you used one, you would know all about it.
there's also mirror coat which does the same thing but for special moves.
counter is only useful when you take a lot of damage first. but it's one of the best moves because you can double the damage.
Imagine that on a blissey with 600 health. you get put to 5 hp and you do 1190 damage to the enemy for free.

The reason why hitmontop was able to be Charizard is because Charles already use fly and hitmontop used counter which would counter does is basically if you hit it with a physical move like fly it does 50% more damage to the opponent. It basically just fires back the damage or in the moves case counters your move

To note, Tentacruel is actually a really good Pokemon for Nuzlockes, it's got a good typing (Water/Poison) & has really good Special Defense, which can make it quite handy if you're up against a Pokemon that's mainly a Special Attacker. Of Alpharad's three starters, the only "bad" option would have been Ludicolo, due to it having a less than stellar move pool. Jaiden....got screwed with her starters, as Wynaut would have been completely useless by itself, & Ariados has a pretty bad move pool, so Mankey was really the best option for her.
Also, Hitmontop killed Charizard because Counter always goes last and deals double the damage the Pokemon took from the opponent in that turn, so getting hit with Counter is pretty much a guaranteed OHKO unless you are using a Ghost type (which is outright immune to Counter since it's a Fighting type move, and Ghost is immune to Fighting), even if the Pokemon getting hit by Counter resists Fighting, it won't matter since it's 200% of the damage that that same Pokemon just inflicted. By contrast, Metal Burst is like Counter in that it deals 150% of the damage taken that turn to the opponent's Pokemon, but unlike Counter, Metal Burst doesn't force the user to go last, so it's really only viable on a Pokemon that's already slow and unlikely to go first.
Also, while Jaiden and Jacob were able to triumph against Lance, one of my Vtuber friends, Lilrya Prisvielle…Wasn’t so lucky. See, when she got to the Elite Four in her Soul Silver randomized Nuzlocke, her one answer to Ground-types, a Water/Dragon Pupitar(She also had types randomized), died to an exploding Skiploom, a la Yamcha. When she finally made it to Lance, the most unfortunate thing happened: One of his Pokémon was a Shedinja that kept Wonder Guard…And was Ground-type. Cue her valiantly trying to stall out said Shedinja, only to get decimated(The Shedinja in question even managed to land THREE FISSURES). Not gonna lie, it was SOUL-CRUSHING.
Jan (Pokemonchallenges) doesn't really tear people down... he's questioned Alpha Rad a couple times for what were universally bad moves (for example sending an Onix out to fight a Jynx... which was technically his friends fault because Alpha was in a call with a few of his buds), he does however analyze Nuzlocke videos and tell the viewers where and how they messed up so that 'we' will hopefully not make the same mistakes in our own Nuzlockes.

Jan doesn't tear people down, he's pretty chill. He did lose it a bit during Alpharad's first nuzlocke... the whole Onix vs Jinx but broke him a little, but he mainly reacts to and critiques nuzlockes as a way to educate people on how to be better at nuzlockes.
Jan is a pretty awesome dude. Recently he did a review of someones Nuzlocke. "Pro Nuzlocker Reacts To PeanutButterGamers Nuzlocke" Now if you want to be meta you can react to that one, or just watch it yourself. It is very fun to watch between the always awesome PeanutButterGamer, and the knowledge of Jan.
fun fact: the original diamond and pearl games have like worst dexs ever. there are only 2 evolved fire types in its regional dex. one is infernape of which is a starter and the other is magmortar which requires trading a magmar to evolve. so you have like no ways of getting fire type S.T.A.B. (same type attack bonus [you deal 1.5x more damage if you use a move thats the same type as your pokemon.]) if you didn't pick chimchar. and thats not even all of the issues but i don't feel like talking about the pokedex for D&P. so i recommend playing platinum for its better dex. but if you want to play diamond or pearl despite its pretty bad dex, be my guest. because no matter what pokemon game it is i'm gonna watch it. fun fact: this comment had no relevance to the video.
Magmorter is part of the Platinum Dex, Diamond and Peal only had Infernape and Rapidash.
Magmortar isn't available in the Region Dex for Diamond/Pearl. The Pokemon you are thinking about is the Ponyta/Rapidash Line as the only other Fire Type you can use till Post-Game. Unless you are talking about Pokemon originate from Gen 4, cause then you have to include Heatran. But otherwise yeah, Diamond and Pearl doesn't have enough Fire Types and Gen 4 barely has any new Fire Types aside from a Starter Line, an Evolution to a Gen 1 Pokemon and a Legendary (2 if you include Fire Type Arceus).

I would suggest watching some PokemonChallenges videos for helpful advice on Nuzlockes. His best advice is to play the Pokémon game you are the most familiar with because you’ll know what to expect.

I only heard about you just today so disclaimer: I’m unsure if you’ve seen her other two nuzlocke attempts:
Jan (pronounced Yawn), is very meticulous in his analyzations of nuzlockes, however over the years he’s gotten very sociable to the point where when he reacted to Jaiden’s 2nd nuzlocke video and found out what happened, he straight up said “it’s a self imposed challenge of a children’s video game, who gives a shit?” This was a response to people who attacked Jaiden for something you’ll find out what happened during her official stream. Suggestion: if you haven’t seen her other nuzlockes, watch her Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Platinum nuzlockes.
P.S. only Jaiden stopped doing nuzlockes, Alpharad still does them.

Counter is a move that doubles the user's attack damage to the attack it just received. meaning the near death attack Fly DARPHEL did to it made it that much stronger since it survived the attack. just because Charizard is Fire/Flying doesn't mean it's immune to fighting types, it's just neutral to it but, again: Counter hits different.

well your first nuzlocke should probably start slow. unless you are doing casual ruleset like grinding infinite levels is allowed and using all items is a'ok
@@TheUltimateRare I'm guessing he will grind as much as he wants, use any items, and use legendaries. There are no required rules, it is all for fun. You can give each Pokémon 3 lives or make one immortal if you really want to.

be warned a Nuzlocke is harder than you think on my first one lost a lot of pokemon in a pokemon platinum randomizer. A pair of Grunts opened with Regice and Rayquaza. I encounted three trainers all with a Giratina on the same route they killed my Arcanine and that was my starter. Even on a normal game you have to be more careful with injuries and load up on potions. Heal stalling can also save your life.
The run highlights the difference in luck between Jaiden and Jacob.
I would love to see you react to any of Flygon HG's video he's such a sassy little devil always enjoyable to watch

Mewtwo hits like a train, but its defenses are actually pretty flimsy without buffs. Being legendary certainly doesn't make a Pokemon invincible - overconfidence is a fast track to losing.
It was mostly notorious for Gen 1 having no split between Special Attack and Special Defense, and having some serious durability due to typing. Once things settled down it's sort of a glass cannon and the worst part is trying to capture it since it tends to Recover often.
that's the problem with legendaries. they get a bad rap for being unbalanced, gamebreaking or completely OP. which is just completely untrue. there's many cases where a legendary goes against it's weakness and flat out loses sometimes even a couple levels above them.
Types and levels are what truly makes a pokemon OP. being legend just gives slightly better stats, which can be overpowered by EV training anyway.
@@TheUltimateRare To some degree, yeah. What really wins a match above all else is stategy, though - pure brute force only works in the short term, even in-game.
If you're gonna do nuzlockes, watching a couple of Jan's videos would be very helpful.
Please please please please do the "Good Enough Summary of Kingdom Hearts" trilogy by Barry Kramer...in the correct order.
If you're up to try rom hacks/fangames I can't recommend Pokemon Insurgence and Pokemon Unbound, if only for their changes mechanically and quality of life additions. They also come with a Nuzlocke mode I think, at least Insurgence does.
I suggest reacting to a video called "A Real Demoknight Tutorial" by iLander. Pretty fun video.

2:20 Actually Kyle, I will fight you on this one. Arceus is pronounced like R-K-S and there is evidence in game. In the most recent game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you receive an item called the ARC phone. The phone is clearly modeled afte Arceus himself and as such is called the Arc phone. If Arceus was pronounced how you pronounce it, then it would be called the Arc (pronounced like arse) phone. Also the Pokemon Type: Null and its evolution Silvally are created to be clones of Arceus. Those Pokemon run off a system called the RKS system. If it was pronounced how you say it, then it would be the RCS system.

@@StormsSprite Are we talking about the same guy, Jan is super chill and extreme competent on Nuzlockes. I watched most of his reactions and the ONLY time he got mad was with Jacob because of the amount of blant mistakes he made. Also, he's not strict at all, even if he plays around saying he is the best, he always say that you should play the way you want and never listen to people that say how you should play. If you dont agree with him, at least respect the professional that hi is.
