@@allysonchen4286 yes: Citan really a bad ass! Awesome speed - with speed ring S and Speed Shoes, well, your defrnse is low but the enemies dies anyway with five or six attacks in a row!! Citan is a awesome second character!!!
"But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!" Well Id, you can definitely see where they thought doing something like that was necessary.
9999 = The classic Square max damage. You see that you know you got effed up. *Gear does more attacks to add a 1 next to it. * Ok, now this boss is just showing off.
That moment was a breaking point for me in this game. I'd grown up believing 9999 was _the_ limit that video game damage could go to; Id's attack boosting the damage into the 5-digit range shattered that perception even worse than it shattered Bart's Gear.
I remember the first play through with this scene and just being in awe of id's power. Same feeling when seeing Sephiroth for the first time in the flashback sequence in FF7. This was a special game. Unfinished, but remarkable in its scope. And so many memorable characters (this was when Square actually made great characters and stories), and that soundtrack, damn the feels
The "using the gameplay to demonstrate Sephiroth's power" is just one of the many examples of stuff in Final Fantasy games that Tetusya Takahashi wasn't properly credited for. So the whole bit showing Sephiroth hitting enemies for 3-4000 damage was Takahashi's idea. A little thing in the long run, but IMO it had a major impact. FF7 had a number of things, but FF6 is probably the game he gets the least amount of credit for, being credited as a graphics director when he was responsible for narrative and design elements in the game, and similar stuff with Chrono Trigger. Also, Kaori Tanaka (AKA Soraya Saga) wasn't properly credited for her work on FF6 which included narrative and character creation.
@@adrian_veidt I find Tetsuya Takahashi and Nomura are both vastly superior talents to Sakaguchi. Probably not something we'll agree on, but those are my views. As far as arrogance goes, Sakaguchi is the guy who understaffed projects at Squaresoft that and forced ridiculous work hours and short SNES length dev cycles when PSX games were significantly bigger - not to mention he gave himself and a team of 45 over 3 years to produce FF5 when he only gave Takahshi 2 years to do Xenogears with a smaller dev team. This is on top of his Spirits Within film project that killed the finances of the company. It was due to his mismanagement that half the best talent walked out of Square between 1998 and 2001. He also takes the Director Credit of Final Fantasy 4 when he had little to do with that game (almost nothing to do with the SNES phase), that role was mostly done by Takashi Tokita and Hiroyuki Ito (Sakaguchi was handling FF5 at the same time as FF4). Tokita also had great follow-up projects, Live a Live, Chrono Trigger (along with Masato Kato) and Parasite Eve, but Sakaguchi basically gave that franchise to some Resident Evil guy they picked up. In the end, I'm not a big fan of all the credit Sakaguchi takes. He's a very unoriginal writer, and stuck his name on credits where it didn't really belong (at least he didn't do that with FF6, and Kitase got the credit he deserved). Yeah he was one of the first guys hired into the leadership of what would become (IMO) perhaps the strongest and most talented lineup of game devs outside of maybe Nintendo, and then when he took control, he tore it apart, until he himself left in shame.
Do u know how f***ing Amazing this cutscene would be with today's graphics. I think we need a hug petition sign & sent to square for a remake of this. I played this years ago in 98 I was only 12 & didn't understand it until I played it years later on my PS3 as an adult. This was the best rpg I ever played in my life.
Still my favorite game of all time and it won't ever be dethroned. I am now 32 and I played this back at release for the first time. A timeless classic that will transcend time itself!
Same here. I also never paid much attention to how ID only showed up when Fei was "occupied" Then when it all came together I had to put the controller down and process all that epic build up and reveal.
It's like you feel you know what the gears battle all about, using weapons, technology and such and also limited by those mentioned. Then come ID with Superpower element that basically throw everything you think you know away.
This game would be amazing remade on a newer console, the cut scenes would be epic. Id's theme behind Ramsus looking at a monitor watching Id destroy shit would be chilling
Funny how everyone now acts like they knew the connection between Fei and Id back when the game released when in fact most ppl who played the game were kids and highschool teenagers. 1st and foremost one would think that Weltall and the powerful red gear that just shitstomped Ramsus and Bart is one half of a pair of sister gears. Similar to how zone of the enders did jehuty and anubis, a pair of sister orbital frames. Dark Blue vs Dark Red. Utilizing the same Kishin deathblow, how awesome would it be once fei and this mysterious red gear pilot finally meets when Fei himself is capable of utilizing Weltall's true power. Yet a fabulous twist awaited the players. Also Fei, Grahf, Wiseman, and Id used the same martial arts so that was also used to throw the player off and made us think Ramsus was just crazy and obsessed, as he definitely was, with the deathblow punch that Fei also knew how to use. Also they impressively threw the player off with the animation scene where Fei's father was confronting Grahf and this unnamed person in red who later turned out to be Id. Fei was brought to Lahan as a child by his father so Id cant possibly be Fei as the Id looked more adult than a child. Also the characters first only met Id in person during the scene where Emeralda is retrieved by the enemy. Such great storytelling and definitely a gem buried under the games with 2 F's in its titles. Disc 2 isnt even that bad as what ppl said. In fact I felt like it ended up being quite an artistic take after the team got screwed by Sakaguchi them prioritizing budget for the FF titles. The emotions, mood, and tone of disc 2 was artistically crafted. What I find beautiful is that Elly shines the most out of all ps1 female heroines and only those who know of her and understand her can appreciate her. Lastly every character in the game were pretty much unique and didnt fall into any anime archetypes which is extremely rare.
If you played the game back when it was initially released, after you finished playing Xenogears, you had changed, grown, back in the day many of us didnt know about many of the concepts we had been introduced to, and they were an integral part of the story, best RPG ever made, hands down.
Easily the best RPG - how they brilliantly tied Jungian psychology into Fei’s growth and development throughout the game was well done. Didn’t really understand the depth of this game until I got older.
His obsesion actually makes sense if you know Ramsus' story... Yet, he talked like he can stand his ground against such a monster... I mean, dude, it took him 3 attacks in 25 seconds to wipe the floor with your Gear and you STILL insist to fight? That's an obssessed bastard
