I've played this game so many times, now my 12 y/o daughter wants to play it; the same age I was when I played it. The story, the interactions with the characters, and world building were just too well put together; it has aged well.
The moment at 5:02 looks just like the male and female angel statues from the Nisan church legend, which in turn, is a legend passed down about "The Contact" and "The Antitype", Fei/Id being the current contact, and Elly being the current antitype. It's those small details that makes Xenogears seems more like an epic tale than just videogame.
A full Xenogears HD remake would be great. But Tetsuya Takahashi is now leading the "Xeno" metaseries with his founded company Monolith Soft. Plus Tetsuya actually wanted Xenogears to be fully fleshed out but Square was much more focused on releasing Final Fantasy titles out.
As much as we all would like a Xenogears remake (UNCHANGED, with a finished disk 2), would you REALLY want the current Squenix to touch this gem now? Too much time has passed, and the staff and energy are no longer there.
There is actually more to the story, first off Square back in the day had strict 2 year development cycles(I wonder what happened to those) combined with the fact that the majority of the staff on Xenogears were newbies in the field of 3D animation and that Takahashi kept wanting to add things into the game. In the end the Square higher ups told to hurry up and finish the game at what would have been the end of disc one. Takahashi then decided to make the second disc the infamous visual novel style as a way to complete the story
My hat's off to you sir. I have been looking for this iconic scene for ages and I haven't not find an untainted version for ages. There were other versions with voice commentary that ruined the experience for me and many others like me. Thank you very much for uploading this scene because I love the scene where Citan questions a constrained ID.
I love how when Citan is explaining to the group in Shevat about Fei and Emperor Cain, as much as he's revealing to them he STILL doesn't even know the true secret behind The Contact. I guess Cain never filled him in lol.

The only other villain I think can compare is Kefka from FF3(6). While other villains tried and talked about destroying the world, Kefka went and DID it. Sephiroth who? Only reason he became popular was that he was in the first 3d FF and he was a bishi. His claim to fame was that he killed Aeris...whoopdefreakingdo.

Sephiroth is vastly more complex than you make him out to be; it's just the culture surrounding him that overblows the Aerith thing and ignores all of the things that actually make him a compelling character and villain.

So in essence he was a mama's boy that went (surprising) crazy and wanted to destroy the world and re-create it in his own image. Now...not taking into account the whole "mama's boy" angle where have I heard that story before almost word for word... Oh right...Kefka of FF3/6.
Kefka is just a shit-tier ripoff of the Joker. Great Value Brand Joker fanboys love to powermasturbate to that hE dEsTrOyEd TeH wOrLd shit, but so did Ardyn and he's trash. I'm massively unimpressed. Sephiroth is overrated, but Kefka is just shit.

Either remake the game or turn it into an anime series, either way is good. This game had a better plot than most final fantasies, and it definitely fleshed out a different take on the mecha genre. The story encompasses more than one genre, and takes on philosophical and religious beliefs to another level. But nowadays its looks over substance. Anime in Japan, movies in America, videogames in general, and even books are starting to be all about pleasing the lowest common denominator. Rote learning and fucking stealing ideas has become a norm and creativity stagnating. I haven't watched television in a decade and I'm in my twenties, all because there is nothing new. Just recycled ideas and "fanservice". We are in an era that can only be defined as what The Bible wanted to prevent from happening.
My suspicions about Id first began when Ramsus had his flashback dream about Id. Id was wrecking all the enemy Gears while on foot, and he was using Fei's deathblows (Hagan, Senretsu, then Raijin). Later, when you fight Id above the Zeboim Ruins, he uses a variation of Guided Shot, Hoten, Hagan, Senretsu, and Raijin. At that point, I figured out his true identity.
Even back then Xenogears was just a side project playing second fiddle to the more visually appealing Parasite Eve. I still dream of a full HD remake. Yeah, I got a bunch of classics on that list and no one wants my money.
Fei and ID is just like Allelujah and Hallelujah from gundam 00. Well maybe I should say Allelujah and Hallelujah are the same as Fei and ID since Xenogears came out way before Gundam 00 did lol. They need to bring xenogears back on out though. Update the graphics and keep the same story. Add a few new moves though to each character and the gears. Maybe add another scene to the story to make it a bit longer. Which the game was super long anyway lol. Love it! I beat the game 4 times so far^_^
I'm definitely missing something here... How did Id manifest when Fei was a prisoner in Nortune Block D? If he did manifest, then that would obviously be a wrong reason why the party killed Redrum (other than putting him to rest because that's the idea of putting an end to the suffering Krelian put upon the mutants)...
I think it was after Weltall was rigged in the Battling Tournament. The accident caused Fei to pass out, losing consciousness, which causes Id to take over and get back at Rico's henchmen. I don't know if Id's murders match up with the discoveries of "there is always slime near murder scene" stuff during the sewer chapter, but yes, it could be that Redrum was actually (partially?) falsely accused for the sewer murders. (hell, I don't think that Rico has the right to be upset at Fei/Id for murdering his henchmen. They also tried to murder Fei over some petty Baptismal Ceremony stuff. Dick move.)

He was framed because the one conducting the investigation was Citan, who knew the true culprit, and had to make up some alibi at the time, thus falsely accusing Redrum of the murders. If you pay attention, every single time Id murdered someone in the sewers, the screen was red (Id's thematic colour), while everytime we see the scene from Redrum's viewpoint, the screen is green.
When the Battlers were killed, the screen was red (seen from Id's perspective). When Fei, Citan and Rico hunt Redrum down in the sewers, its POV is green. Also, we hear a loud heartbeat with Id (what Fei typically hears when he's about to flip out and transform into Id), whereas Redrum is just heavy breathing.
Yeah that's true. I say Hallelujah and ID is the same cause both believe in just destroying without even trying to handle matters another way. Fei and Allelujah don't really want to fight and they always trying to talk things out. Fei did put all that aside much later on in the game but that's the attitude he and Al has.
They're all the same person. Id is Fei, and Grahf is Lacan, Fei's incarnation from 500 years ago. Grahf is currently inhabiting the body of Fei's dad, Khan Wong (Wiseman). That's how he's lived all these years, by possessing the bodies of different people. When Khan's will is stronger, he appears as Wiseman. When Lacan's is stronger, he manifests as Grahf.
