Porsche's eighth generation 911 is now smarter, cleverer and as intoxicating as ever.
Porsche's 911 reaches its eighth generation and in '992'-series form is bigger, faster, more luxurious and a tad more efficient. Just as you'd want. With coupe and cabriolet versions of this Carrera S, the 3.0-litre flat six gets more power and the PDK auto gets an extra ratio. But most importantly, it's still the most usable super sports car of its kind. Yet somehow also still the most exciting. Only Porsche knows how.
Background
The Porsche 911 may have been around since 1963 but the pace of evolution in this model range has been so slow, even Darwin would struggle to notice it at times. The very first platform used in this car lasted all the way up to 1997, a millennia in automotive terms. Platform two that underpinned the '996' and '997' series models (to use Porsche's own internal chassis codes) lasted a further fifteen years before it was replaced in 2012 by the '991' model, which was then succeeded by this current '992'-series version in late-2018.
Porsche knows that while people still love the 911's combination of pace, handling and genuine everyday usability, competition is tougher than ever. With tightening emissions regulations and rivals like the Mercedes-AMG GT boasting more power, continual changes have been needed in recent times, hence the introduction of the turbocharged 3.0-litre flat six in 2012 that's been given a shot more boost this time round. Add the latest tech too and Porsche hope to be back at the top of the class.
Driving Experience
There's a 3.0-litre flat six plumbed-in out back - of course there is: this is a 911 after all. But in the Carrera S, it's now got 30PS more than it had before, putting out 450PS, which is enough in a 2WD model (if you've got the 'Sport Chrono Pack' fitted) to get you to 62mph in just 3.5s on the way to 191mph. So yes, it's as fast as you'd want. As usual, there's a Carrera 4S all-wheel drive variant, that version's figures being 3.4s and 190mph. Crucially, peak pulling power is developed low in the rev range from just 1,700rpm, which should make it easy to tap into performance which is accessed via PDK paddleshift auto gearbox now boasting 8 speeds.
Those worried about losing the 911's distinctive noise at high revs are promised a lofty (for a turbo motor) 7,500rpm redline and the 'typical sonorous Porsche flat-six engine sound'. Handling is typically immersive and adaptive damping (or 'Porsche Active Suspension Management') is standard, as part of a suspension set-up that remains unchanged. There's plenty that's new though. The steering rack has a faster ratio. And there's a new 'Wet mode' driving setting that senses the splatter or rain water in the wheel arches and then dials in appropriate settings for the engine, gearbox and safety systems at the same time as alerting you. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Very very explanatory, enjoy the review
Generally, those who purchase a 911 Porsche are not disappointed. Lots of comfort; handling the curves better than anything in the world (except some cars costing at least a half-million dollars); amazing fit and finish inside and out. High top speed is not the highest. It is just higher than human beings can normally drive. 30-60 speed to rival any car in the world. Carrera, S or GTS, these are the cars that provide everything that 95% of all Porsche drivers require. GT3 and above are cars that people buy only because they feel they should. Still a lot of the Super cars are sold. The car is incredibly safe, although if one is hell bent upon killing oneself, that is also possible but very difficult. As one person reviewed this car said, PDCC is almost unnecessary because the chassis is so stiff already that the car remains flat 98% of the time. Rear wheel steering is a nice addition, especially in slow situations. Front axle lift makes sense, particularly for those who might customize the suspension.AF

Having recently placed an order for one of these a couple of months ago and due to take delivery in around 3 months time, as you can appreciate I'm trying to find things to pass the time and keep me motivated. Came across this review and it is by far the most detailed and professionally delivered review I have seen on this car. What do you do for a living??
@@mappleuser1 I was wondering that. It may well be leased, I cant see them paying cash outright for it. Thats why it never impresses me seeing expensive cars on the roads. Nobody owns them. All it means is they have enough spare cash every month to make the payments, thats all. A flash car is not a sign of massive wealth. Too many show offs these days.

On the coupe we have gone for the ceramics but the cabriolet has regular brakes would you say the ceramics are ok for just road use

Love Porsche, I currently have a 2018 Panamera and a much cherished old Boxster ive had from new.
I love E mode on the Panamera but also love the ICE.
I have a deposit on a Taycan and looking to get a 992 4S to go with it so I really have the best of both worlds.
I very much enjoyed your review of the 992 its excellent best I've seen and I think I've watched them all. Would like to see a review of the Taycan. Not many out there and most are by purely EV lovers so not necessarily very balanced. Many thanks.
The Taycan is a first generation effort, the 911 has ballooned too much in size, weight and price - though a lightly optioned base Carrera or Carrera S version is still an OK deal. I say replace your old boxster with the 2021 pdk equipped 718 spyder. PS: You should have gotten the Panamera 4S. The hybrid is compromised as a sports sedan by weight, weird regenerative braking and like any hybrid it wastes your time with geeky, obsessive stuff that have no place is a sporty luxury car.

Outstanding review - and I've seen them all, at least all reviews I could find for the last eleven months. Disclaimer: I'm not objective at all, my Carrera S Cabriolet will delivered in April. ;-) It might not be cheap, but you will definitely get your money's worth and more. PS: besides this being a concise, well balanced overview of the car's features, your articulation, vocabulary and general tone would make this perfect material for any English lesson. I would have loved to watch and listen to something like that when I've been learning English back in the .... well, some decades ago. ;-) (I'm from Vienna, Austria)

Best place for an engine is in the back. You realize that when you own a 911. You can come out of corners putting out a lot of power and full power once past halfway through. Mid engines give you too much noise right behind your seat (no storage either) and with front engines you have a wrestling match through the corners when you push hard. A joy turning into corners with a 911 making you feel like a pro and they don't lose control easily like other super cars Try putting heavy items in the front of your grocery cart and then see how difficult it is to turn vs putting the heavy items in the back. Love my S4 too with over 450hp with a cheap tune. A monster.

14:50 Of note, rear-wheel steering certainly was not adapted from the GT3 race car, as it is banned in the GT3 regulations the same way active suspension or torque vectoring are. Perhaps you meant the road-legal GT3.

The best review of the 992 by a mile.Its of course still the leader after all these years.The last car ever built will be a sports car it could just about be this.
Watching this video its like it feels like I am watching or seeing identical feels and patterns to the My Porsche Macan. In fact I am happy that I got the Macan with the added Carbon Fiber Panels to give it a more Racing feel not so conventional but more appealing to our younger generation taste.

Eliminating the nearly perfect hidden drivers cup holder was a big mistake by Porsche. They may want to stuff electronics in their. The cup holder is more important. A deeper and more cargo room center console would have made way, way more sense. AF
I have a 1981 S.C Sky Blue Porsche and want a 2020 Porsche 992 'Now...i have Been looking at them...Should I Buy it or Lease it...59 yr old Now...I might get Tired of it and want a Different model going foward...Am 'not wanting to own a 1981 anymore...I like the feeling of the 'New Technology ..Any Suggestions...🚘

Great review and very in depth. Its nice to see a review that isn't about going sideways on a track the whole time. I do feel a few things were repeated throughout which could have been left out and the strange horror movie music between segments really doesn't work.
