I am glad to hear you have found a good dealer. There are some shockers around. An old friend in NZ has bought a number of new Porsche's and has a 992. It was off the road for weeks because Porsche NZ sold these cars without making sure tyres were available. Very poor, especially as the Service Manager said anything other than the tyre they specified would void the warranty on the car. Clearly they have no shame. It has paint protection film that appears to have been trimmed by a child and park sensors that fault so often riding in it is a horrible experience, so bad she hardly uses it and calls it her white elephant.
I agree - in person this car is stunning. I finally saw one last weekend. I was an absolute no thank you prior to seeing it in person. It is absolutely gorgeous.
I'm with you I currently own a 991.1 turbo and while it's a great car and dream car for many, I tell my friends it has too much power to properly enjoy and if I get a 911 again I'm gonna go for less power trim, like a Carrera T
I’ve been waiting for your take on this car for so long. One of the most realistic and detailed person I’ve ever seen! I’d love to see a comparison of the 991.2 sport exhaust and the 992. I know the 992 crackles a bit but I’m interested in seeing the direct comparison and I know you can make it happen! I think the main reason why many complained about the noise was because most reviewers tested it on a European specced 911 with a GPF. Living in America, you have the privilege of unleashing the full exhaust note.
Wahab .Goldsmith yes you’re right about that. The 992 I tested in its loudest setting was more muted than my Carrera T in normal mode. It’s was a heartbreaking experience. WHAT had Porsche done to the 911! And the lateral screens down right annoy me Nick!
Got to agree. I loved the sports exhaust on my 991. I could spend all day lifting off at 4K rpm and listening to those crackles. The sports exhaust on my (UK spec) 992 is so disappointing. Much like the Goodyear Eagles fitted as standard. Why? Handling on the other hand is mind bending. The turn in is immensely satisfying. The acceleration is markedly harder and the interior is finally 21st century. And the looks as Nick says are much better in real life.
Great review and insight as always Nick. I'm in the process of buying my first Porsche. After driving a few models I settled on the 911 GT3 manual, can't wait the hit the canyon roads out here in southern California. Cheers!

DugPug that’s fair. I mean yeah I haven’t actually been in the new 992 yet so im just speculating. Any change porsche makes initially bothers me but as always it eventually grows on me haha
Couple of points to add as a personal openion: - I would like to see more classic looking head & tail lights option that are not blacked out to go better with the lovely darker shades that this model offers. - I believe the sport exhaust can look better and prefer the look of it below the bumper instead of it going through it. Mohamed Al Abdouli I just love the looks of the whole car now. It kept it’s traditional silhouette; however, it was time to refresh the interior and exterior. I think they nailed it on this car.
14:10 I brought my 991.1 into the dealer multiple times for squeaks and rattles. One of them was the same squeak you just described. On every survey I complained about the squeaks/rattles and how poorly the car was put together. Glad to see Porsche listened to my complaints and fixed the squeaks and rattles in the new one
Did they fix the ones in yours, though? That’s one thing I’ve found to be conflicting - everyone talks of Porsche’s build quality, yet many owners I speak to describe rattling this and squealing that. WTF? Once they put out an official video “explaining” why their brakes squeal, I was wondering why Ferrari doesn’t do the same, or why Chevy doesn’t also do so. When I’m paying big bucks, I expect damn near perfection and not rusty bolts and basic car building 101 stuff going wrong... urrrgh!
@@Kiarax1 They did finally fix the squeaks and rattles. When I complained about the seat they tested 3 other 991.1 cars and said they all did it so it was functioning properly. When I insisted they fix it anyway they finally did. I put felt everywhere I could think of that could cause the sounds and when I'd pick the car up and they didn't fix it I'd drive right back and demand they do it right. The service adviser rode with me and had the radio blasting, which of course I told him made no sense if you're listening for rattles. He said it's a high performance car so you expect rattles, which did not sit well with me. After a lot of complaining I also changed the tires from the Pirelli to Michelin (Pilot Sport 4S I believe) the last remaining squeaks/rattles were gone. Overall it's a well built car as far as feelining stable and the mechanical parts, but the fit and finish things that should be easy like the sun visor or center console were not put together well.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 Obviously I was being sarcastic. What a disappointment. The cars drive well and I'm glad I can still get a manual, but I was not happy with the attitude from the Porsche dealership about the squeaks and rattles in a car that cost over $100k
I bet you were furious - you pay six figures for a car that is said to have “excellent build quality”, only to then be told you have to “expect” rattles and squeaks that you’d reject in Kia? WTF? If it’s such a feature, why not mention it in the sales brochure?
Ahhh! I hate you! ;-) Now you made me want a base model 911 Carrera. I really appreciate your no nonsense attitude regarding all the, more or less, unnecessary horse power and extras. The base model is a great car in it's simplicity and superb build quality. It will be my first real sports car (I'm 53) and a base model 911 992 feels like the perfect one.
Test drove a 992 today back to back with a T - recently sold my M2C - have to say the 992 was smoother, faster, more comfortable and much nicer engine note than the 991 based T. As for the gear selector - love it - you only need it when starting up or reversing :)
Nick, I agree, the 992 looks so much better in flesh. But I need to check about the base model not arriving with a manual gearbox. I thought that was the case. I'm going to give Germany a call. Thanks for the video.
T Bone from looking at hundreds of u_tube videos, I agree(d). Now, I’ve had mine for a short spell, I don’t even notice it. On camera it looks huge in size, in reality it’s not. There are so many other things to observe, interact, etc., I do not even notice it. Note that Nick didn’t even mention it. There are so many other positive things about this car.....that black piano small strip of geography means nothing. Honest injun!
Finally just saw my first wild 992 in Chattanooga TN. Pure White unfortunately. It had Guards Red Chrono and Instrument Dials. Probably deviated stitching but seats were covered. This car looks so nice.
Great video and very good information. This is something I've been waiting for, because you can see beyond the design changes and actually appreciate the upgrade brought to us. Keep posting these excellent videos!
I agree totally with the exterior tweaks, great combination of old Porsche with modern updated lines. The 992 really does not photograph well and looks truly incredible in person - almost a different car than on videos and especially pictures. Cheers!
Hi Nick..... Thanks for your most excellent review.... I,m looking at changing my car sometime soon and your points and comments are really really useful.... especially the bit about being able to turn off the volumetric alarm inside ( we have family hound who always comes with us ) plus the other tips So thanks for that. But I,m a bit torn between 991.1 GT3 and the new model 992 Carrera S.... Would appreciate your advice if you get a spare minute.... GT3 here in the UK I can buy for less money than the new 992 but other points nobody mentions are running costs with fuel etc and with the GT3 if you have a puncture or need to change a tyre you have to go to a Porsche Dealer as they are the only ones who have a suitable wheel brace/spanner to get your wheels off..... then you have to pay Porsche Dealer prices!!!! Is the radar and camera driver assistance system able to be turned off? I hate that with a vengeance. And what about things like the lights? Quality of audio system and how does it handle in the wet? Rains a lot here in the UK Cheers Loving your work though fella Thanks Regards Roger
Well Nick... now that you talked me into buying my 2017 991.2 Carrera, here you go bashing on it as you rave on about this sexy NEWER 911. tsk tsk tsk (sp?) Great review as always. My 2-cents: I really like the flared wheel wells (wide body option) and horizontal brake light being present on every model. Those were my favorite features of the previous all wheel drive models. I don't need the door handles to have the stowed position with a solenoid to present it for use but, oh well. I appreciate the sales job you did on my 991.2. I won't be getting tired of it for a long time but just one thing... Now when I drive it, It burns when I pee ; )
Really helpful video - love your even-handed yet quirky approach - realised that my M2C is just a 911 substitue and I’ve found your videos very helpful in deciding the 911 genre! Looking forward to you options review on the 992 - very hard to make sense of specs without your first hand experience. I’m thinking plain-Jane 4 as a fun drivers vehicle

You say you like driving the base model power... I feel the same way about the Macan... base model, lighter over the nose. a turbo engine that likes to rev. quiet and refined at low speed, nice aurally at high revs. opposite of the V6 S
I would expect the Connecticut dealership to give Nick an exceptionally good deal on his next car. He definitely deserves it. All the best and good luck, Nick!
The old multi-function steering wheel (in the 997s and 991s) came with a programmable button that would let you move forward a track. Thanks for the review.
Nick, the perfect solution is to wait for the 992 Carrera T! The base engine (probably) as well as all the handing options you could want..Manual, PTV, PASM, RAS, Limited slip diff., as well as your favorite seats.....LWB of course. (Well, I guess you could do without the LWB's!) I did the same for my 991.2 T and absolutely love it. Most balanced and best handling Porsche I've ever owned!
I am not a fan of Alcantara but I love ultra suede, got a neighbor who is an NBA player and he got the headliner of his Escalade re-trimmed in ultra suede years ago and that just felt so luxurious.
thank you for your video impression. One could wait another 2-3 years until they release a 992 manual with the new spyder/gt4 engine and PTV. They say it is not coming, but I think the business case for it is too strong.
Thanks Nick! I have wanted to purchase a 911 Carrera since I put a poster on the wall back in 1982. I could only afford a used RX-7 back then. I am looking forward to your promised options video on the 911 992 as I am seriously thinking of a 2021 manual Carrera 4S next production year. However I fear, the money saved on a basic interior will disappear into the higher overall price. European delivery anyone?
I feel the same way about the technology as you feel about the power they put out now. The new interior looks too tech for me. As an owner of a few 911's over the years, I went with the last of the 991.2 C4 and absolutely love it. The old ones had less tech to go wrong making them almost bulletproof. Never fixed them. And what do you think about that mini shifter now? Do you need tweezers to operate it?
My favorite of all the reviews you've done. I agree about the spoiler. I don't think they look cool at all, but some people love having the spoiler up while they're driving 30 MPH.
Another great video like you I came from M3’s to M5’s and now 991.2 Turbo S so I’m a driver not just look at me. I’ve seen and driven the 992 Carrera 4s still not excited on the change in the rear end ( 992 Turbo/S the rear end has changed I like that one better) and the electric razor for a shifter just weird. Power is really amazing unlike what I drive just to much power rarely do I get to open it up. In my defense when I bought it I was looking for the same power I had in my F90 M5, I quickly learned all power is not created equal. Thought of you as my first fault light lit up my heart stopped the Front Axel lift system malfunctioned , They found it right away just a lose connector. After my first yr the car is still amazing to drive, thanks again for a great review of the 992.
Finally! Nick you took too long but glad you did review the 992. I look forward to your video on the options. May I say I agree when you say a prospective buyer should go and see the cars in person. The colours on the Porsche configurator here in the UK, are not what they really look like in person.
Great video as always ... I test drove a 992 for a day and it's a fantastic piece of kit, possibly too many electronic gadgets for my taste. My main concern was when driving on the UK "B" Roads it felt too big and possibly too fast when I was pushing on a bit, it had me wincing a few times when vans or 4x4s drove past in the opposite direction..... I'm sure you will be happy if you buy one.
Great review, Nick! I borrowed (rented) a 992 C4S in Switzerland this summer, and the only real design flaw I noticed was the interior door lever, that can pinch your pinky or ring finger when opening the door. I drove from Lucerne to the Alps and back. It felt like a Mercedes. Through tunnels, the flat-6 sounds mean and purposeful. In the tightest of turns, it felt as nimble as my MX-5. The new carbon ceramic brakes are actually usable in traffic. Hit the push-to-pass button and the car downshifts from 8th to 2nd instantly and now the car is at 6,000 RPM happily awaiting your foot’s command to break the laws of physics. I’ve daily-driven only manuals since 2009, but the immediacy of the PDK combined with the power delivery of the new 9A2 made me think that someday I could give up manual transmissions and be perfectly fine with PDK. Heresy, I know.
Thank you Nick, great review! I value your opinion a lot and agree with you a lot. Owning a base 991.1 C2 and (still) loving mine. Also the 992 is a real beauty and I would trade it any second if I would have the extra cash.
Great Video Nick, not sure I agree on the standard car being better. I have had the 992 C4S cab for over 6 months now and wouldn't change it for anything. Mine is Aventurine Green with the sportdesign kit all round. I agree the rear sport design takes something away on the coupe but looks awesome on the cabriolet (see the video my son did). Looking forward to your spec. video can add some thoughts on what I would change if I got to spec. again. (nothing major). Congrats on getting this car - you're going to LOVE it !!
My 992 was ordered in April 2019 and delivered in November 2019. The car is lizard green (no longer offered as an upgrade unless you want to spend $11K more) and has sport exhaust. One of the 4 toggle switches under the display is for the sport exhaust so it seems odd that your loaner didn't have that switch. What I am missing are the switches that allow the user to set certain options (the diamond buttons). I only have one on the steering wheel. One problem I found is with HomeLink. No more physical buttons for opening the garage door. It is all done with software which might seem good because you can program up to 6 garages, but when you back out of your garage, you no longer see the HomeLink screen so you have to search for it. The real problem is that HomeLink every so often asks me to reconfigure it; that is, it forgets what I have already programmed my garages, and to find the screen, I have to go at least 3 screens into the PCM.
I'm at the end of my 6000km European delivery Grand tour of the Alps with my new 992 Carrera S. After a month doing 40+ mountain passes in Switzerland, Austria, Italia and France, here what I can say about this car compare to my 2018 991.2 GTS that Nick was so jealous about: The car feel more secured to the ground, probably due to the larger front, power plant moved forward 10cm and transmission apparently 150 lbs heavier making the car more like a mid engine (even if it's not); When I initiate a tight turn, the stearing react more quickly than before and feel better and heavier. May be also because the weight is more toward the front wheels and larger front; Overall line way more modern. The redesigned front end back make the car no longer related to the Beatle (IMO). I was racing in Switzerland in the Nufeneun pass with a bike that was pushing me only to discover that at the top, the bike was a cop! He liked my car so much that he was more interested to ask me info on it and didn’t give me a ticket! The new turbos on the engine are smaller than on my GTS and coupled with the amazing 8 speeds new double clutch transmission, acceleration are mind-blowing and turbo lag not perceptible in Sport plus mode; I’m a true manual transmission lover but I must admit that this transmission is absolutely a most in a racetrack or in a mountain pass when you need two hands on the wheel. Gear changing is perfect on Sport plus mode. About technical problems, no seat squeaking (may be because I’m not as fat as Nick) but I have to connect my iPhone with the cable to get AppleCar. Door not opening when the car is running and when I tried to pay a toll with my Apple Watch, if I open the door to get closer to the reading unit, the windows lift just to piss me off! Overall, great car, love the new exterior lines and interior finish (I have no interior option except the red seatbelt and it’s perfect). Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/4oy46_7p66o/w-d-xo.html
Claude Auclair My 992 C4S is magnificent. It tracks like on rails, sticks to the ground like paint. The center of gravity is lower, the car is wider, the tires and wheels are wider, all to make the car more stable. I have a 996 TT X50 and I thought it was the car to be reckoned with. Nah! The 992 is the new big kid on the block.
I like it how you tell it how it is. So many car reviewers are so afraid to overly criticise new cars for fear of being blacklisted by the manufacturer.
Hey Nick. Will Porsche building cars for the second group’s preferences keep eating away at what the first group loves about Porsche? (Does that make sense?)
Hi Nick....great thoughts about the 992. I just got mine!...a Gentian Blue S, standard beige interior which looks great! I'm really glad that the 992 is more usable as a DD, with better suspension and better ride quality (necessary in the LA area, with our poorly maintained roads). Porsche must have added more acoustic insulation, because the tire noise has been greatly reduced. This was the main gripe I had about my 2015 911. The new 992 is a blast to drive and far more comfortable than the 991, IMHO.
Such a great review. Thank you.

When I’m paying big bucks, I expect damn near perfection and not rusty bolts and basic car building 101 stuff going wrong... urrrgh!
Um no they did not fix the squeaks in the new one. They still squeak. And there is no fix for that.
Totally agree the turbo s is boring to drive after the first few times of getting the rush.
Fantastic insights that no other TH-camr provides. Thank you nick!
Couldn't agree more Nick, make mine in green with a manual gearbox as well.
No one reviews 911’s better. Bravo, as always
Great video Nick! Brilliant to see you again - have really missed your posts :)
Yes - totally agree with you on the Alcantara. Useless material for steering wheels, flat surfaces and areas that everyone touches!
Test drove a 992 today back to back with a T - recently sold my M2C - have to say the 992 was smoother, faster, more comfortable and much nicer engine note than the 991 based T. As for the gear selector - love it - you only need it when starting up or reversing :)
Good info Nick. I always appreciate your honest opinions. I have been thinking about a 992, but believe I will keep my 991.2 for awhile. Cheers.
Hooray, it’s finally here! This is the only 992 review I care about. Looking forward to your options video.
Nick, I agree, the 992 looks so much better in flesh. But I need to check about the base model not arriving with a manual gearbox. I thought that was the case. I'm going to give Germany a call. Thanks for the video.
let me know
My only gripe is shiny black plastic on the center console
T Bone Totally! It’s going to scratch so easily, and every fingerprint will show.
@@Fluterra So just don't touch or scratch it
agree : bring back the good old buttons !
Interior looks beautiful and modern.
I agree totally with the exterior tweaks, great combination of old Porsche with modern updated lines. The 992 really does not photograph well and looks truly incredible in person - almost a different car than on videos and especially pictures. Cheers!
Nick, if I ever buy a 911 I will contact you for all your knowledge and insight about them. Awesome review!
So glad I found your channel this last week & I live in Near you so crazy. Def wanna meet you one day made me love Porsche’s so much more. 🙏🏽✊🏾
Hi Nick..... Thanks for your most excellent review.... I,m looking at changing my car sometime soon and your points and comments are really really useful.... especially the bit about being able to turn off the volumetric alarm inside ( we have family hound who always comes with us ) plus the other tips
So thanks for that.
Rains a lot here in the UK
Cheers
Loving your work though fella
Thanks
Regards
Roger
How is the wide body an option if it's on every model? Makes no sense. It's the new standard body.
This are reviews I can relate too. Thanks for the great content!
I am excited to drive one. Super cool.
Good man ! I just ordered base Carrera with the following extras :Agate greyGlass sunrooffolding mirrorsmodel des on doors in blackporsche crests on seatssports exhaustsport chrono package (because i like the little button on the steering wheel)power steering plusfront axle lift system (where i live - alot of kerbs)21's carrera classic wheelsprivacy glass (i know, forgive me)park assist - rear cameraheated GT steering wheel14 way seatsBOSEi think thats about it .. like you said, didnt need to do much to the interior at all
You say you like driving the base model power... I feel the same way about the Macan... base model, lighter over the nose. a turbo engine that likes to rev. quiet and refined at low speed, nice aurally at high revs. opposite of the V6 S
Love the opening with Carmina Burana and your video in general!
I would expect the Connecticut dealership to give Nick an exceptionally good deal on his next car. He definitely deserves it. All the best and good luck, Nick!
the external spec on this one is not my taste.... but its a stunning car :)
Would love, when you get a green 4s
Excellent video Nick! Is good to hear the good and the issues. 👍🏻👍🏻
Keep up the good work Nick. Great reviews.
I'm excited for you Nick! But with all those screen and tech I'm also very scared for you :( I hope this one goes better for you!!
Excellent - thanks Nick. I look forward to the options video.
You must use some really great cameras, you have one of the clearest vids on youtube. I cant believe how sharp and clear your vids are. Wow.
Hahaha... 15:30 that 992 had and this 992 has. Nick, you are just a masterpiece.
Looking forward to the long format options list video.
Really agree with the comments regarding enjoying the simple act of driving.
"MY NEXT 911 MAY BE MY CHEAPEST 911" - Nick Murray, early fall 2019
Don't believe that for a minute.
should have added *inflation adjusted (that's Porsche inflation which is several points above CPI)
Thanks for the response and the video!
I am not a fan of Alcantara but I love ultra suede, got a neighbor who is an NBA player and he got the headliner of his Escalade re-trimmed in ultra suede years ago and that just felt so luxurious.
Another great video! Please do a comparison with the 991.2 , drag race and all! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
thank you for your video impression.
Do you need tweezers to operate it?
always the best Porsche content
My favorite of all the reviews you've done. I agree about the spoiler. I don't think they look cool at all, but some people love having the spoiler up while they're driving 30 MPH.
Thanks, Nick. I'm looking forward to your review of the 911s with a manual.
Thought of you as my first fault light lit up my heart stopped the Front Axel lift system malfunctioned ,
They found it right away just a lose connector. After my first yr the car is still amazing to drive, thanks again for a great review of the 992.
Bought the new m5 after a month sold it... the new transmission ruined the fun in that car.... I ran back to the m3 this time a cs!
Finally! Nick you took too long but glad you did review the 992. I look forward to your video on the options. May I say I agree when you say a prospective buyer should go and see the cars in person. The colours on the Porsche configurator here in the UK, are not what they really look like in person.
This is crazy literally yesterday I was thinking I haven’t seen a Nick Murray video in a while. Is TH-cam reading our minds?
Can’t believe you didn’t shred a mm or two off those tyres in that empty car park.
Nice video.
I think this is the best looking 911 since the 993. Love it.
I’ve been looking forward to this.... your videos always remind me of 2001 A Space Odyssey..
Can’t wait for you to upload the option lists of this car
Adrian Lee All that info is avail on the Porsche “Build Your Porsche” website.
Ron Stopfer it’s more fun when Nick does it.
Thank you Nick, great review! I value your opinion a lot and agree with you a lot. Owning a base 991.1 C2 and (still) loving mine. Also the 992 is a real beauty and I would trade it any second if I would have the extra cash.
Totally agree with the alcantara. I’m also not a fan of too much carbon fibre. Manual is a must. 😀
Nick you left the boot open! Oh wait? that’s the rear wing? What a fail.
also know as flag up for the police tell them... i am speeding.... plase give me as speed ticket... never like that thing...
@@campkira The rear spoiler comes up at 62 miles an hour, hence not speeding in the UK. The old one's used to come up at 70.
If/when I get one, I'll be disabling it. Pull the fuse or whatever it takes.
OMGWTFLOL tampering with it would void the warranty and insurance
Alcantara roof lining looks good an doesn’t wear.. but I agree that on places that get touched a lot it doesn’t work!
Superb! Always without fail you make laugh! Love your videos!
After a month doing 40+ mountain passes in Switzerland, Austria, Italia and France, here what I can say about this car compare to my 2018 991.2 GTS that Nick was so jealous about:
The car feel more secured to the ground, probably due to the larger front, power plant moved forward 10cm and transmission apparently 150 lbs heavier making the car more like a mid engine (even if it's not);
When I initiate a tight turn, the stearing react more quickly than before and feel better and heavier. May be also because the weight is more toward the front wheels and larger front;
Overall line way more modern.
The new turbos on the engine are smaller than on my GTS and coupled with the amazing 8 speeds new double clutch transmission, acceleration are mind-blowing and turbo lag not perceptible in Sport plus mode;
I’m a true manual transmission lover but I must admit that this transmission is absolutely a most in a racetrack or in a mountain pass when you need two hands on the wheel.
Enjoy!

Yeah your back...Good times here again
Sports exhaust button already present on a 992 C4S Cab my father had as a loaner. (UK) Great review as always!
Certain configs do have it.
I think so
Hi Nick....great thoughts about the 992.
