    I really appreciate that you make a point to mention that you're in rural Kenya.
    I feel like all too often, people will see one type of environment in a (sub Saharan) African country and think the whole country looks like that. There are towns, cities, and rural areas just like there are in many other countries. There's variety like everywhere else (:
    Thanks for being mindful!

    I'm always interested in how native Africans view people of African Diaspora (like Afro-Brazilians, African Americans, Afro- Puerto Ricans, etc...) a majority of whom have a degree of European admixture and look different than the native African. Like those kids called Jo a "mzungu" or white person even though in America we would definitely consider Jo to be Black.

    • @itomojito
      @itomojito 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      chrisrockslol my dad is Nigerian and my mom is white German. I'm called yellow or oyinbo (which ist basically the nigerian equivalent to mzungo) when i'm visiting. so yah white in one home and black in the other Lol.

    • @miki28miss
      @miki28miss 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mwafrika Mkenya .yes is definitely more like related to people's way of thinking, speaking and acting than this light skinned/dark skinned thing. I'm considered the equivalent of muzungu in my parents homecountry because I speak and act very european like, but my brother who's also born in europe speak and act like a lot of our family members back in Congo and he isn't considered like an european, and we both dark skinned.

    • @MzMahoganyHoneyBrown
      @MzMahoganyHoneyBrown 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Outside of America the girl would be considered mixed race just like Obama and drake. People like Lebron James, Kelly Rolland, Issa Rae and Akon etc are considered black. The rest of the world distinguished between being mixed and black unlike the states. Of course many black people in the diaspora who are descendants of enslaved people have a small percentage of European in them, so when I mention black people I’m referring to people who are more than 75% black. Not people who have a drop of black in them and identify as black.
      I’m not sure if you know many Africans but black people in the diaspora look similar to Africans.

    • @pietrojenkins6901
      @pietrojenkins6901 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @MzMahoganyHoneyBrown so would a pure white African immigrant fit into the description of being an "African American" too even though they're 100% white?

    • @kyooreeuhs
      @kyooreeuhs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MzMahoganyHoneyBrown In the states, from my own experience, we do distinguish between mixed and non-mixed people. Where I've lived we have always used the term "mixed" to refer to people who appear to be mixed race. The media refers to Obama as black, but I say black and white. It would be odd to hear someone described as only one of their races if it is known that they are mixed. However, I have heard a few people who are black/white refer to themselves as only black. I'm not sure why though. Objectively they would likely be described as mixed.

    I love watching you both experience the culture shock. I moved to Nigeria from the UK some years ago, and things I'm now used to I remember how it was a shock to me when I first came. It's fun watching you two be "shocked" by it. Like how people buy things from the car window and the person who offered a piece of their mango. I also loved how you both confidently vlog on the streets. I wish I had that confidence, up until now I'm still nervous and worried about thieves and about being cheated at market stalls because the traders see my camera and all. You guys are really inspiring! I hope to be that confident!! ❤

    talking about periods: in Argentina, women use pads more than tampons; and these ones don't come with an applicator. actually, i found out American women used that when in all the movies the tampons were huge and I didn't understand why. we just use the old and trusty index finger.

    Nah this brought so much joy in my heart. From you guys trying mango with powdered hot sauce which is - a staple in my country, to Damon and his sukuma wiki 😂😭 I’m not Kenyan but I do come from a Swahili speaking country ( Congo DRC! And Angola but they don’t speak Swahili much there) this video brought back bittersweet memories from my trip last year. Can’t wait to go Angola this August 👏🏾💖

    Kenya has the most amazing kids.
    My class sent letters to a school and foster home in Kenya. We received letters back and I was so amazed. One from Alfred, 14 years old. In his free time he visits the sick. And one from Claudia, 12 years old. She loves exploring and learning about Science. They are the nicest human beings. We talked about multiple things. The think that amazed me the most was that their English was written so neat and amazing, and it isn’t their first language.
    Also, I love you guys :)

      Hayley Marie That's awesome. Most Kenyans are multi lingual. People usually speak their tribal language, then Swahili the national language, and English the official language.

    The same thing happens here in Dominican Republic with tampons!! There are so few options! It's a cultural thing, a taboo. People think tampons take your virginity or hurts you inside (yup).
