My wife and I enjoyed this video, having taken a package tour of Morocco in 2022 that included about 4 days in Marrakech. My only comment is that we made a non-tour stop to both Jardin Majorelle and Yves Saint Laurent’s museum (both very near to each other) and found each of them worthwhile. I wanted to experience YSL mainly for its modern architecture but the exhibition they had was very good as well. I will add that by the time we’d been in Morocco for 3 weeks, I was tired of Tagine dinners (but liked the kefta option, like Kevin).
Thank you so much for watching and for letting us know about the Majorelle/YSL Museum combo you took. We'd heard good things about the YSL Museum, but since we couldn't take photos and share them with our viewers, it had slightly less appeal for us. And we heard mixed reviews about Jardin Majorelle because it had become a bit tired looking, but we can't say if that was actually the case. I didn't have much of the kefta until we got to Fes, where I ate significantly more of it, but Kevin's were always good. Fes had a bit more spice at times, which was a happy treat, so there were differences in flavors between cities. We considered seeing more of the country than we did, but ultimately were glad we were able to be immersed in Marrakech and Fes for longer. We did a day trip to Meknes and Volubilis as a day trip from Fes as well, that we'll be sharing in two weeks. Kevin changed it up with a few burgers (including camel burgers) and also pizza a couple of times in Fes. One nice thing about Fes was that our Riad's breakfast was really delicious and satisfying, so we only needed to go out for one meal per day, which slowed some of the tagine burnout for us! -Judy
So glad you enjoyed Marrakech!! We love this red city and highly recommend staying in the Medina in a riad as well! We recommend all the spots you went to…. Especially the Palais Badi…. One can’t see everything, but I love the Jardin Majorelle and consider it a “must see”…. Beautiful garden with exquisite details and so colorful…you can see how inspired YSL was in this space and the nearby museum is a must for fashion lovers!
Thanks so much for watching, Tracy! We knew you recommended Jardin Majorelle, but then when we read reviews, they were very mixed and when we found out that we couldn't share the other museums with our viewers, that was a huge bummer. We weren't sure if the Majorelle was going to be too touristy and not authentically Moroccan. We would probably make time the next time we visit, though. -Judy
How wonderful! Our video from Fes will be out this Saturday. If you haven't visited there yet, you might want to consider it. We also LOVED our Sahara Desert tour, which is linked below if you're interested in it, along with our full series (so far) from Morocco. Hi Judy and Kevin, just wanted to write a quick comment to thank you for such a lovely video about your stay in Marrakech!! I'm actually from Morocco living part-time in Marrakech and I myself never visited some of the places you've been to, so I'll be adding them to my list 😄 It makes me quite proud that such well travelled people like yourselves appreciate what Morocco has to offer and I look forward to watching the rest of the series to see what you got up to in the other cities! Wishing you all the best in your travels 🙂❤
Hi @BigAsh7, Thank you so much for watching, and we are so glad to hear from you! We were delighted we could visit Morocco and enjoyed really immersing ourselves there. We also appreciated Fes quite a bit, but I think that was in large part because of the specific people we encountered. There is more of Morocco that we'd like to see, so we definitely have it on our list to return at some point! Here's a link to our full series so you have all four of our videos from our 41 days there in one place! -Judy 🎥 Morocco Travel Series: th-cam.com/play/PLNT98lWfwdF0_pL4S2LnqlBz2KBX9XMCc.html
Thank you so much for this! I see so much similarity in some of the architecture here in Seville. I am guessing Granada will be as well. I am envious of this trip and realize that even though I think I am an adventurous traveler I am still not ready for Morocco. But give me some time! Looking forward the next installment.
Hi Mimi! Our walking tour guide was talking about how well a trip to Seville or Granada would be on either side of a trip to Marrakech, and although we've not been to Seville ourselves, we think it would be a great pairing to a visit here. Marrakech was a lot, but we think Fes is equally interesting and a little less chaotic. We can't wait to bring you with us to the Sahara Desert next week! -Judy
Enjoying going through your series, and this one came at a good time. I'm planning a trip to take my father to Morocco for two weeks. He spent time there back in the 70s and I'm making lists of things to do. I'm liking the format you have for these videos and thanks for calling out locations you enjoyed.
Hi Marcus, thanks for watching and thank you for your comment! How amazing of a trip you will have with your father! We're glad to hear that this episode was helpful. We had so much good food while we were there, but we did hope it would help by mentioning everything we saw and ate. We can't wait to bring you with us to our experience in the Sahara Desert, which was a bucket list item for sure. -Judy
Thank you so much! We felt well cared for in Morocco! This Saturday we'll bring you with us on our Sahara Desert tour and then we share our episode from our 2+ weeks in Fes! -Judy
It was such an incredible experience. We highly recommend you see Fes if you can as well (and do a Sahara Desert experience if you can!). Fes and Marrakech are vastly different in many ways, but at their core, there are wonderfully kind people in both. Let us know if you have any questions we should incorporate into any of our Morocco series before the final two episodes are released! -Judy 🎥 MOROCCO: 22 DO’s and DON’Ts for Marrakech, Fes, and the Sahara Desert ❤️ th-cam.com/video/ZPENQNxbBhU/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! I hope you enjoyed your moments of fame in our video! We are currently in Argentina, but we've had some travel glitches we've been sorting out. Great stuff as always! For myself, I typically avoid any site which does not allow photography. I'm not a TH-camr nor do I post my pics online, but taking photos is core to my travels.
Hi Dan, We understand that a lot of this is very cultural. I learned the hard way when I tried to take a photo of a butcher stall and the shop worker gave me the finger (and probably a few curse words). Some people in Morocco believe in the evil eye and are actually afraid of cameras. Some Muslims also have issues with "graven images" of themselves and having their picture taken is against their religious beliefs. Other people are just worried about someone copying their handiwork. Not everyone in Morocco feels this way, but we try to be respectful of those who do. But you are probably referring to places like the Yves Saint Laurent museum and Berber museum. We hate that, too. There were restrictions in certain places in Albania as well, and some places will allow you to take photos but not video. It's hard for us to go places that we can't share with our viewers, and we agree some of it feels petty. We've never encountered anything like Madrid where we were watched like hawks in a few of the museums there. And even when we weren't on TH-cam, we still liked having photos as memories of our experiences, so thanks for relating! -Judy
You definitely missed a trick not going to the Jardins Majorelle. It's stunning - I just loved the blue as it is so vibrant. We loved the Islamic architecture but were badly scammed by the owner of our riad which has coloured our opinion of Marrakech. People constantly wanting money for photos that they happen to be in the frame of when you're taking a photograph of a building was wearing. the souks were fun - you expect a lot of interaction there and I loved that and really enjoy haggling. I don't think we'd go back to Morocoo though. Been there, done that! I do love your videos though as they are so informative and enjoyable.
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Dawn. I'm sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience with your riad. Ours in Fes actually ended up being outstanding, but the one in Marrakech was average. We actually found more people who didn't want us to take their pictures. And although we had plenty of people trying to give us directions, only one person was persistent in wanting to get paid. We so appreciate you watching and all your support! -Judy
Hi Mike, We originally were going to spend time in Casablanca, but every local person told us not to bother because it's a business/commercial city without a lot of soul. We skipped Rabat, but primarily because we didn't want to do more travel. We were ready to move out of Marrakech by three weeks (instead of our usual month). We really enjoyed our Sahara Desert tour, which was a significant expense for the amount of time, but it was worth it. Fes was great, but also, by the end of nearly 18 days, we were ready to move on from there as well. We preferred Fes over Marrakech, but it was worth seeing them both. We took a day trip from Fes to Volubilis and Meknes, which we'll be sharing with you in our Fes video. You may have missed that we mention at the end when we talk about pricing that our Sahara Desert tour brought us to Fes, so we didn't have to get any transportation between cities per se. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment! -Judy
I think it is supposed to be more interesting than Casablanca. Although our walking tour guide really didn't recommend anyplace other than Marrakech and Fes except for taking day trips. He specifically discouraged people from visiting Casablanca because of how industrial it is (which seemed to be the general consensus). -Judy
It's surprisingly less kitchy than I would have expected, but we prefer to not move around too much, so being in two cities and a three-day Sahara Desert tour was plenty for us! I don't know that the rest of Casablanca would have lived up to the hype of the movie. -Judy
@priyankakamble12 Late February is considered shoulder season, which typically means that the prices are a bit lower than peak season. Marrakech and the Sahara Desert will have dry and sunny weather, although evenings and mornings will be cooler (lower 42°F (6°C)). Some places like Oukaimeden will potentially have snow, but the temperatures in Marrakech and Fes will be mild with daytime highs ranging from 63°F to 68°F (17°C to 20°C). Thanks for watching. We try our best to respect the local customs wherever we visit, but you are entitled not to patronize a place that doesn't allow photos. -Judy
I now am realizing that you were referring to the Berber museum and the Yves Saint Laurent museum. Yeah, not taking photos was supposed to keep the art there feeling "special," and perhaps "exclusive," but it's a huge bummer for us when photos are restricted. Hi @Judith-t8f, It is so much easier when you literally have no room. If you saw our episode in Marrakech when we first arrived, we made an effort to get rid of 12 pounds apiece of things in our suitcases. We have no room for extra stuff-and what we got rid of wasn't trinkets!-which does make it A LOT easier to say no. We also don't have a home base to decorate, so while it would be somewhat cool to collect things from all our travels, there's a freedom in spending our money on experiences versus stuff.
