Elton isn't the typical screaming solo pianist, His real genius was in the way he put notes together to create chord combinations (many arpeggiated). He developed a sound that was uniquely his and you could always recognize an Elton John song even when he wasn't singing. Well sung by Sting, too.
As with all of my met heroes (of whom I have all of their catalogs) it is often the DEEP CUTS that turn out to be my favorites. I see them as more personal, private discoveries that few know about. Poems, that you can keep close to your heart. "In every heart, there is a room, a sanctuary safe and strong"
Anyone watching this in Nov. 2020? Beautiful song about someone being left by their love. It doesn't get much better than this. "There are women n women...and some hold you tight. While some leave you counting the stars in the night"
One of my all time favorite albums with a special memory of my first love. You never forget that one and this beautiful piece of music will seal that memory forever.

I remember Sting singing this on a documentary, and it's nice to think Elton considers him a dear friend. But this interpretation kinda...doesn't seem to get the emotional content when Sting sings it. But it's a delight to see Elton revisit this one. We cover it, too. LOVE this song. Have felt what it's all about...there was this girl named Kaya Ba-Doom once...
Two favorite AND song so beautiful it's almost herasy to talk about it. This is stunningly well done. Of course ! Look👁️👁️🗨️at who is performing itt.!* Tytytytytytytytyyyyyttttyyoutwo.
"Come Down In Time" In the quiet silent seconds I turned off the light switch And I came down to meet you in the half light the moon left While a cluster of night jars sang some songs out of tune A mantle of bright light shone down from a room Come down in time I still hear her say So clear in my ear like it was today Come down in time was the message she gave Come down in time and I'll meet you half way Well I don't know if I should have heard her as yet But a true love like hers is a hard love to get And I've walked most all the way and I ain't heard her call And I'm getting to thinking if she's coming at all Come down in time I still hear her say So clear in my ear like it was today Come down in time was the message she gave Come down in time and I'll meet you half way There are women and women and some hold you tight While some leave you counting the stars in the night
@@gracekenningsYou are so wrong. An anvil is used in making horse shoes. A lantern mantle is a device used to generate bright white light when heated by a flame. Sorry to burst your confident bubble but it's MANTLE. Anvil makes absolutely NO sense.
Well done lads..! Bravo..💙If you ever play this for someone you think you're in a relationship with, and they don't like it or respond, red flag..! End the "relationship" as soon as the song is over...

This is enjoyable and a treat...however since tyher eis so few versions of Elton singing this on professional video..i wish Elton had done this solo...
The Two Rooms release while uneven contains some amazing performances. Come Down In Time & Sinéad O'Connor's interpretation of "Sacrifice" are a couple of highlites.
Sting should have just performed over the phone if this is what he was going to bring to this performance. It's a shame since this has to be one of Elton's very best songs.
Very nice version, made better by the live groove added to it. Give a listen to this song sung by Lani Hall. It’s on her first solo album after she married Herb Albert. Exquisite really
I had owned Tumbleweed Connection for 20 years but didn't think this was such a great song until Sting covered it. Even when I go back to Elton's version, I still think Sting owns the song LOL.
Tumbleweed Connection is my favorite Elton album and Come Down In Time one of my favorite songs on it, and I love Sting's voice and a lot of his material - BUT this particular effort is a travesty and the last part where they sang in unison sounded like somebody threw a grenade into the middle of the whole thing
I think Sting is a phenomenal vocalist but Elton set the bar so high on this particular song that Sting just seems like a bad fit for this song. Nothing against Sting in anyway -- I doubt Elton would sound good singing the King of Pain either.
We use to drop that album on the turntable, spot the arm and drop the needle right on this song. Greatness by Elton and Bernie. Sorry Sting, but you can’t sing this song.
Sounds like they've also roped in Kenny G to do this one. Not a good version of the song at all. A good song, great in fact, but nothing good added to it here.
Sorry, IMO Sting sucks on this song. He sounds very corny in his intonation. This song loses something special with Sting at the mic. Love that they added that haunting oboe in, tho.
❤I absolutely Love this beautiful Haunting song 🎵 by Elton and Bernie!
I had this beautiful album.... every song is so killer.... 1971....
TUMLEWEED CONNECTION.
I love sting but he cannot deliver like Elton does on this beautiful, mystical enigmatic song. Thank you Bernie and sir Elton.
Sting, you are awesome
Perhaps my favorite Elton John song. Just beautiful. Great changes, lyrics, melody. Perfect.

The best Elton John song…hands down
This song is so beautiful - it hurts my soul and leaves me wanting.

Been listening to it since 1971 💕
Elton has many hidden pearls like this. Surprised that nobody put them together to make one of the best albums ever.
nothing will ever top the original version of this beautiful song
Not this crap, agreed.
especially for jazz version
True
i agree the original track is just Elton at his very best sublime song makes you really weep it holds very mixed emotions for me back in the 70s

"Tumbleweed Connection" was my first Elton John album. I was 14. Great music and lyrics.
3:44 3:51 This was my first Elton John album "Tumbleweed Connection ". Brilliant!
Bernie Taupin so wanted to be in the US,especially out West. So many of their songs reflect that .So glad he got to fulfill his dreams!! ❤
Sting is such a good storyteller in this quiet ballad. Stunning song.
No one can match Elton on this song.
Stings version is tons better
Sting can!😊
Agree Steve
Absolutely right.

Nothing better than hearing Elton playing the piano and singing.
Yes. As much as I love Sting, this is Elton’s song. His voice is just hauntingly beautiful ❤️
Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics, beautiful singers. Thanks!

2024. Still loving this music.
Lovely. Just lovely!
One of my all time favorite albums with a special memory of my first love. You never forget that one and this beautiful piece of music will seal that memory forever.
2 legends; 1 legendary song.
Unbelievable song and performance!
One of the best covers ever.
oh boy, sting is great but really he murdered this song here
Elton John sang this best on Tumbleweed Connection.
My absolute favorite song is Sting's version of Come Down in Time on Two Rooms. I can listen to it forever.

Ditto. It's a beautiful vice listen to it over and overol again
Nice...with Sting. I've always loved this song.

Two of favorite master performers.Love them both.So how can I go wrong saving this one? It's a no brainer.
Sting does a more jazzy version but nothing will ever ever ever top the original… very nice though.
Oh, two beautiful guys. ✨
Lovely sAxaphone....lovely song. Lovely.☯️☮️
Great one...simply and the sad feeling works..maybe i still got feelings..These pals knows the work...they got it inside...
Thank you for such a beautiful song

Yo tuve ese Disco, una verdadera joya, y la perdí, fui un idiota monumental
I agree with Elton, my favourite songs of his are not his hits, with a couple of exceptions. And I like most of his hits.
My favorite song at yet ♥️♥️♥️
cool this was a cool show, wow sting sang this great song, its nice how elton repises these songs from his early works.
godwhyisthistaken mantiene el tono

Tytytytytytytytyyyyyttttyyoutwo.
Good version. BUT Elton rules with this song!
"Come Down In Time"
In the quiet silent seconds I turned off the light switch
And I came down to meet you in the half light the moon left
While a cluster of night jars sang some songs out of tune
A mantle of bright light shone down from a room
Come down in time I still hear her say
So clear in my ear like it was today
Come down in time was the message she gave
Come down in time and I'll meet you half way
Well I don't know if I should have heard her as yet
But a true love like hers is a hard love to get
And I've walked most all the way and I ain't heard her call
And I'm getting to thinking if she's coming at all
Come down in time I still hear her say
So clear in my ear like it was today
Come down in time was the message she gave
Come down in time and I'll meet you half way
There are women and women and some hold you tight
While some leave you counting the stars in the night
thanks! Funny the darker it gets, the more stars shine!
the lyric is sung wrong by all that have done this tune... it's "an ANVIL of bright light shone..." NOT "a MANTLE of bright light..."
Adoro essa música, é linda!!!

Awesome
Love this song...❤
Beautiful 💗

rare and excellent
I love that blue suit ALMOST as much as I love ELTON!!!
pure magic nothing else needs to be said
Stings voice is superb
Very good.
It's brilliant to hear the original arrangement here! I wasn't expecting that! I thought it'd just be the piano!
Really wonderful! Thanks for posting!

klasse!
This is enjoyable and a treat...however since tyher eis so few versions of Elton singing this on professional video..i wish Elton had done this solo...
Love it.
great duet!!! I love hearing their voices together though (or maybe because) they're so different.
The Two Rooms release while uneven contains some amazing performances. Come Down In Time & Sinéad O'Connor's interpretation of "Sacrifice" are a couple of highlites.
😵 Sting sings this EJ masterpiece as if he's drunk 😂😂🙏 sorry Sting 😘
Some leave you counting the stars.
Wonderful!
Sorry …..elton is king singing this fantastic song. This is a wonderful song to play on guitar…. One of elton and bernies finest creations
Вы для меня кумиры!
Sting kind of pinched bits of this on Hounds Of Winter. Or maybe it's just my ears. Love both the songs.
My love❤💯
Sting should have just performed over the phone if this is what he was going to bring to this performance. It's a shame since this has to be one of Elton's very best songs.
THIS IS WAY SLOWER THAN MY HAUNTED MANSION VIDEO. WHY DONT YOU BITCH AT HIM TOO?
I seem to have stepped in something on another page and tracked it here. Apologies to everyone, especially to Sting.
Very nice version, made better by the live groove added to it. Give a listen to this song sung by Lani Hall. It’s on her first solo album after she married Herb Albert. Exquisite really

❤️
❤️❤️
Gods / Greatness ~
Beautiful, but I miss the Herbie Flowers bass line.
AWESOME! SUPERB SONG!
Eltons' Americana take on TC rules however.........much more emotive range than Sting.
Great singing, but I still like the stripped down version on Two Rooms best...
Yes. Less is more.
I like the original and the version from Two Rooms, but that sax in the background throws a wrench in the works for me.

@@clovisplatt5670 Thanks. Gracias. Grazie.
prego ;)
wow
@9elephant , it is better, one of my favorite songs
Love it from pacific ocean
this would have been so much better had Sting stayed in his seat
I had owned Tumbleweed Connection for 20 years but didn't think this was such a great song until Sting covered it. Even when I go back to Elton's version, I still think Sting owns the song LOL.
Not as good as the original., but pretty awesome nevertheless.
strangely I like stings version beter on 2rooms
Me too. This version over produced and a bit messy.
Less is more on this song.
Trying too hard. Love the Tumbleweed version and thumb's up on one he did on Two Rooms. Not enough harp.
Should have left Sting in the crowd.
As if he didn't know he was getting up to sing
lol. right
A song about UFO abduction
Tumbleweed Connection is my favorite Elton album and Come Down In Time one of my favorite songs on it, and I love Sting's voice and a lot of his material - BUT this particular effort is a travesty and the last part where they sang in unison sounded like somebody threw a grenade into the middle of the whole thing

U were nicer about it than I was. Kudos for the diplomacy.
We use to drop that album on the turntable, spot the arm and drop the needle right on this song. Greatness by Elton and Bernie. Sorry Sting, but you can’t sing this song.
Wow. I miss turntables. That description takes me back. thanks!😊
Holy crap Trudy Styler got a lot of plastic surgery since this video. OK gonna focus on this beautiful song
Great, but would have been better without the band. Too busy.
Sounds like they've also roped in Kenny G to do this one. Not a good version of the song at all. A good song, great in fact, but nothing good added to it here.
Elton should have left the singing to Sting on this one
Sorry, IMO Sting sucks on this song. He sounds very corny in his intonation. This song loses something special with Sting at the mic. Love that they added that haunting oboe in, tho.
Sting a reggae/ rock style of singer. He has a huscy voice. Not a great balet singer like elton.
Sting is bloody awful on this. When he sings the duet part Elton just blows him away and you can hear him lose pitch and timing.
Shame this great song is ruined by Sting's 'busking'.
Sting fits perfect for this song. Get your ears checked
🤣 😂 Elton blows it out of the water, but it’s his song
This was awful from sting, rushed and unbalanced, thank god elton jumped in to save it.
Beautiful ❤
My love❤
