    Diet is something temporary. We need a holistic philosophy that we can pursue throughout our lives. For this, we need to change our minds, because without changing consciousness, diet is just a mechanical habit. When we change our consciousness, we no longer need effort to eat healthy. Healthy eating becomes a pleasure. A healthy mind is a necessary condition for a healthy body. The body is a deadly machine, but the spirit is immortal. All these diets with complex names can be reduced to a few simple rules - eat a little and simple food, drink water, get off the table a little hungry because the feeling of satiety comes 15 minutes after eating. Follow these rules and you will not pay much money for nutrition consultants.

    While I agree with the majority of this talk, I have to disagree with the statement that push-ups and sit-ups aren't important to fitness. If you want to be fit, do some push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups and cardio (walking counts as cardio, but jogging or sprinting is a lot more time efficient), that's how you achieve a fit body. Besides that, though, excellent talk!

    • @kayh9090
      @kayh9090 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Kevin Burris I have to disagree. Walking is a great way to stay fit. Many overweight/obese people get umbilical hernias and doing sit ups & push up can worsen the hernia or even strangle the intestines which can be fatal.

    • @luisnabais
      @luisnabais 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Kevin, you must think more globally. Most people can't do high impact exercise almost everyday. However, we can walk everyday and more time. It's more effective in weight loss and allows continuity. I do mostly running (jogging, sprinting, depending on the objectives) and calisthenics (bodyweight strength exercises like pushups, pullups, squats, abs, etc), but sometimes I just need to walk, just because I feel the effects of so many high impact exercises. Sometimes, low impact and easier exercise is better, or just complements high impact.
      That's why I don't recommend HIIT and Crossfit, to most people.

    I really did enjoy this TED talk i don't know why he's getting so much hate. I look at all these diets and my head hurts as everything seems so impossible! I have struggled with ED's the past few years trying to find the best diet and his insight on the industry was very helpful everyone these days has something to sell you and as a nurse I am here to serve as well it does pain me to see how toxic the health and wellness industry has become

    I like the essence of Mr Cardiello's speech: water and a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables (and reduces free and processed sugars), beats diet bars, drinks, packaged foods and fad diets. Good job on the basic message. Good for Mr C for calling the perveyors of diet fads on the carpet for their disservice to humanity. Did he make clear those in the stands buying into those fads are also complicit? Who cares. Use his advice and get yourself healthy.

  • @adamrosen7394

    I don’t believe this guy has ever seen a dietitian work in a 1 on 1 setting. If he did, he would know that dietitians do dig deep to find out what is at the core of their issues. Dietitians, through counseling, help clients with habit change before they start on any type of new diet regimen.

    • @jeremywj
      @jeremywj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think he is mostly focusing on the 99% of the weight loss market that targets people's wallets without any real substance behind them. Most people trying to lose weight don't go to a dietitian. Instead, they try this or that diet. This or that supplement. They fail, they quit, they get fatter. The only thing they lost was happiness during that time and money.

  • @on.theworld

    His thesis is sound, but the title he chooses is just as bad as all of the quack influencers he rails against. Yes getting a good headspace is good, but exercise and sensible diet matters too. Stop with the click bait, bro.

    • @martinirving3824
      @martinirving3824 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I think the point of the title is within the context of we've been told for the last 50 to 100 years in order to lose weight (and therefore, be healthy). It really is the perfect industrial scam that benefits processed and synthesized food, and exercise industry. The calorie model helps industry sell things - plain and simple. It does not help the average human lose weight. (it might work for body builders cutting for a competition but they are a rather small segment of the population).

      @@martinirving3824 I don't think you understand dieting. There is no "how long" or "for whom". Everyone does it. All the time. Either in line with their goals and within their constraints, or not. The result is either healthy or unhealthy depending on who you ask and how nuts they are.

I cried I gained a lot of weight in 2 years and I will never do another walk or run again. Suspect its kidneys bit also experiencing increase in waist size, hip etc.. I was very small. Very lean I hate what I've become. No level of training worked.

      I think you're equating his annoyance and/or sarcasm as being aimed at the people he is working with, when I believe most of that is truly aimed at the health industry. He's frustrated that the industry is making it so difficult to win at health, so he is pointing us back to the simple things we can do to lose weight, long term.
