This video has convinced me to reconsider the Aegis Defense Line as a serious addition to my Astra Militarum. I've been trying to figure out what to do to protect my artillery and the answer has just been right here the whole time!
Great review, I may need to get one of these! My understanding is that the enemy will not (usually) get cover when you're shooting out of this, as you're drawing LoS from any point on your models and can likely see the full enemy model from that vantage point. If you're ducked waaaay behind the defense line, it could work out they get cover, of course.
Something always pokes over that thing, right: So anything sufficiently far away (so like more than 3" I guess) will always be visible it you draw LoS from say the top of the helmet.
Main concern I'd have with it is that most of the faction terrain stuff seems to be going to legends. So I just don't know that it'll stick around come Codex time. It is a neat idea though!
Sticking something that new to legends would be a really crappy move. Also in many cases fortifications are weird, but for AM there's actually a point (I'd say for Votann too, they really should get deep striking fortifications).
@Gregbot9000 At a bit of mud effect, wooden beams, duckboards and barbed wire and it should look great. It would also fit the basing on the new models rather nicely.
Mobility is important. Whatever the unit is, if it doesn't move, it's useless. As I understand it, this fortification can only be placed in the deployment zone and this thing doesn't even fire. For its cost, it's better to get something else. Everything would change if it could be placed anywhere on the map, but so far it's just a useless piece of plastic with an inflated cost in real money.
But for the cost of a cheap Leman Russ or 20 infantry, you can screen 20" of table with a super hardy unit. T12 is no joke. I swear, if this was like... 110 or possibly even 120 points, we'd see it in lists.
I don't like this since it encourages you to stay still in a mobility driven game. Also it giving cover to enemies makes it less usable but the enemies most likely would be able to get cover anyway with todays rules. What baffles me the most is that being behind this grants a 4++ but it doesn't get that for it self. Now it's rather easy to destroy unfortunately.
I wish 40K would again allow earth and wood fieldworks like trenches, bunkers, and gunpits. Those used to be allowed. And they are timeless defenses.

we can give him orders like +3 on movement in order to advance or +1 on saving with leontus

Well I ordered one to add to the collection
I really want to make this work in a casual list... 🤔 maybe with your trial and error too we could figure something out
got one but still havent used it. Really want a more trench style for my Death Korps
Sounds like a hobby project for a counts-as.
I was thinking of printing a bunch of sandbags from a WWII .STL I have in the same dimensions and using it as a proxy.

1:08 GHOST! POSSESSED DEFENSE LINE! BTE (by the emperor) RUN!
GHOOOOOOOSTTTTT!
If only GW would release fortress of redemption terrain so I can add it to my imperial defense lines!
I don’t know, home defence is important and giving what limited models left to defend it some cover isn’t always a bad idea, besides it looks sweet 😁
Does it really come with two sprews for two defense lines?
Does it block deep strike
Yes! It counts as a unit.
If you wanna play more defensive it works
I love this stupid thing
So you can only deploy it in your deployment zone?
Yes
So a tank receiving cover behind this would get a 4++….?
Unfortunately only Astra Militarum Infantry. But a vehicle would get the benefit of cover.
But an earth shaker carriage?

@@CadianSergeantSteel Well play a couple games with those walls and tell us about your successes. Just be honest.
@@dexterello if you enjoy it does it matter? Gaming should be first and foremost for fun.
Honestly, I really don't think I'm ever gonna use this.
BUT
consider that this is 20" of Deep Strike denial
@simonemastrovito6315 see... that's what keeps me second guessing using it or not.
