As an unmedicated ADHD gamer, I 100% agree with "the paint What is interesting aspect you talked about in batch painting". So much of my pile of potential is sitting in a shelf, Just simply primed because I'm finding other pieces that are interesting.
I am still getting painting done! But my priority shifts all the time depending on what I'm listening to or reading about or excited about playing. Something that has helped me a bit, is putting models together and painting specific parts of the model. Like painting all the belts and leather pieces you would find on a guardsman, or painting the metallic details on my guardsman, etc
Thank you for making this video! It definitely motivated me!

Soemthing that can help a lot is if all your painting supplies and tools are easily moved, is to move where you paint, maybe to a living room, a kitchen table, a hobby room. Sometimes the change in scenery helps motivate you!

Really appreciate this outside the box 40k video. I love and hate painting infantry and am a painfully slow painter so batch painting has saved me alot of time.

I figured out painting 100 infantry the same sucks so I started to paint every 10 or 20 something completely new and it's working out great I want to buy more

This is gonna be helpful for me, I have ADHD and I have my army almost wholly assembled... but I have painted *nothing* yet. It's quite the wall to get over >

It is. And don't feel shame about having to set it off to the side and come back to doing more later! That helps me a lot. I also use clear totes to store them so I don't forget about my to do list 😅

I batch paint always I mainly paint Napoleonic figures so normally 24 figures to a batch. Normally just paint one colour then have a break but do complete a batch a day. I use the fast paint method were you leave the error fixing to the end but have been painting for 40 years so so don't have that many errors. I have over 2000 french infantry alone in my collection

A little every day is key. If a project drags you down, pause & do something else.
I batch paint 20 to 100 minis a time, and the first moment of real reward is once the first wash has gone on... then trick yourself it'll be a home run from there.

One huge thing for me is removing the amount of steps i need to take to so something. Its actually why I'm swinging more and more towards tyranids lately, as opposed to guard.
The lower amount of individual customization actually makes them appealing to me, as I don't have to think too hard about what i need to stick on my little guys.

Thank you for posting this. It is good to know I am not the only one. Years ago I decided to build and collect a marine chapter and got them primed and base coated. I am in the process of painting all the bolters and the gold trim. And the vehichles. When I get tired of one I move to the next. And that does not count my other armies. I still have the original metal space morines i ever bought(painted) . Anyway, this video helped . Painting I.G. next. And some kit bash as well.

Wow! I have ADHD and new to 40k painting. This is exactly my flow. Similar colors, but i started paintidarsome dark angels, robed guys, and a dreadnought, different texture and challenges, same palette. I wohld work on a Lieutenant mixed in with the other guys. Its funny how naturally i found the same groove.

Great video mate, I paint armies and it’s a real grind as I want my models to look nice, I find if I rush them and they turn out badly painted I don’t like them and then never use them. So these tips of short bursts and focused goals is a great idea. I do find finishing something is really needed for me to stay motivated even when I am struggling through lots of models 🎉 thanks for sharing

I find I best handle it by taking them in bite sized chunks and taking them to completion. A squad at a time or an element. Though I don't have an onus of making them table ready since I rarely play. But I just like getting them to a completed state for that sense of completion and satisfaction. If I bite off too large of a chunk for a project I find the project often slows as I drag my feet.

Wow, I feel very validated by this video. Mostly bc I’ve been working toward NOT diagnosing myself with everything and just adapting to the world and learning how I like to do things. Turns out I mostly approach painting typically? I do all of the methods you mentioned at first even though I feel really scattered. Maybe I’m more organized than I thought.
Also- I’m very proud of you for braving your adhd unmedicated. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to everyone, but at your age, there’s no reason to start amphetimines if you’re managing without them.

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

Oh, I don't recommend going un-medicated either 😅. It's for me mostly unfortunate collaboration with my doctor. We are heading that direction but... keep forgetting to get things finalized 🤣 it's brutal some days especially with the sensory overload I get or not being able to properly prioritize tasks and doing 100 side quests instead. I can't wait for the day where I can deal without those things happening constantly everyday.
I went to go build a single space marine the other day... I built a character, intercessor squad, terrain, organized my bits, and scheduled the sale of some extra models... when I should have been painting that one character I built. 🙃

Thank you for sharing your techniques for batch painting - I have similar issues getting individual units done but find characters and other unusual minatures easy to concentrate on and interesting. I'm not diagnosed with anything, at least not yet, but your difficulty with batch painting sounds similar to mine, so I'm going to give some of these a try - especially knowing my mates are planning a Crusade game with a fully painted 1000 point list as soon as the new Codex releases!

My motivation goes away the moment I see how terrible I am at painting. I want them to be halfway decent and I feel like it's unachievable almost. I don't understand what I am doing wrong when painting, I try to follow videos but it just doesn't come out the same, so I get discouraged.

Follow some beginner videos and just keep practicing! Seeing all those amazingly painted models online gives you a false picture of how well the average paintjob actually should be. The average wargamer isn't nearly as good as all these videos on TH-cam might suggest.

It's a skill you can only get better at by doing it. As you paint more, and you can start seeing your progression from where you started, that's a BIG motivator to help you keep pushing once you see how much better they are turning out.

You have to get through the messy stage and just trust the process. It’s mostly just a case of knowing what you are doing. Maybe you aren’t thinning your paints correctly. There has to be something that just needs to click and you will get it. Good luck to you sir

when i paint i usually am in a discord VC with my friends and spend 90% of the time fucking around with no painting, took me 4hrs to get the fatigues+armor painted (somewhat) on my first ever cadian because 90% of the time was spent joking, im rn painting the rest of the squad (after a failed experiment with the squad leader)
