Happy New Year! A couple notes about this game. Excited to start of 2024 with Astra Militarum and the Remote Controlled Rogal Dorn from @groundeffected. No models were harmed in the making of this battle. For scoring, note that this mission scores additional points for each objective held at the end of the battle.
Just wanted to say thanks for a fantastic 2023. Your content helped inspired me to make wargaming content of my own. Just launched the channel today. Looking forward to being apart of the wargaming content creator community!
that Enginseer must be so confused right now. he was sent to just do some routine investigations while everyone else went to kill shit, and suddenly he's being heralded over the noosphere as the lynchpin in the battle's victory.
You guys missed that during turn four when shooting the Kastelans in ranged, he made a few 6's to save so he would have reflected mortals back at the gaurd
I realize this every time you release a new battle report: This is hands down the best batrep format on TH-cam. You guys are putting in so much hard work, to cut these games down to the most interesting bits and all the editing, interview parts and effects/music make it an absolute joy to watch these. Compare these to all the 4 hour long, unedited battle reports on TH-cam that are filmed only from one perspective with bad sound. Thank you for putting so much effort, keep up the great work!
Dicetray cam, overhead cam, player angle cam, flyby shots, music, voiceover, energy = best gaming channel! Happy newyear and looking foreward to another year of content ^^ starting strong and congrats on the win Tak 😄
Idk how often you guys get praise for your soundtrack choices, I know I've never done it, but whatever was playing during turn 1 was so fucking rad! Metal as hell, and I'm definitely going to be paying more attention in the future to what y'all pick for music.
The Guard detachment rule is just so bad. I don't think the Guard got any bonus from their "Born Soldiers" rule for the first 3 turns. That rule should just always be active and not just if you stood still.
Well, that's mostly due to them not spamming/bringing the indirect fire Artillery that you'd usually want to have. Understandable for a 40k in 40 minutes but definetly not very optimal
@@Redvik007 Spamming artillery isn't much fun for anyone. The index detachment is supposed to be the general purpose one but for Guard it might as well say "This rule exists only for indirect fire units".
It works well with smaller groups of long range fire supports in the early stages, and from turn 3 onwards, for units that have attained a dominant position on the field(like tanks etc.). It is more of a defensive/counter offensive playstyle, and 40k in 40min tends to be very aggressive(especially with Nick playing). When you start to comine things like Castellan giving sustained hits 1, with the enhancement that makes crit be 5+ and with the Lethal effect, in combination with Fields of Fire(and possible Exterminator buff), the damage starts rolling really fast even on things like lasguns and mortars.
@@Redvik007Spamming artillery is not optimal anymore. Most artillery is hilariously overcosted now. A basilisk or two is pretty good, but anything else… not really.
Seems better than the admech one tak brought. Imagine if 1 third of your army didnt get orders and then you get. "Sentinel detachment ....sentinels get the army rules."
I really like how Tak is rolling thru his whole codex to learn how all of it works and interacts and stuff. And even beyond that, I thoroughly enjoy how you guys are showcasing it step by step. It's like it's own little miniseries to me and I've taken to looking forward to the next one as I hear the final PLAY ON from each episode. Way kewl, and thank You, to everyone on PlayOn (especially Nick when he wins with his T'au, it fills me with total vindication and I share those episodes with all my T'au teasing tabletop troglodyte friends) 🤘😎🤙
I love Nick's Tau but ive also been really happy to see him play Guard! I've always loved guard but sometimes I feel like im the only one pushing leman russes around out here. For Cadia!!
Those batreps are really getting next level. Very clear explaination, excellent editing on overview, cards and events. Music is good. Great player energy and beautiful armies. 🙌 This was awesome to watch. Thanks!!!
Good job Nick. Youve gotten much better at Guard. I was genuinely on your side with the split fire btw, its just annoying how d6 dmg can let you down. I believe you might've forgotten heavy stubber as well, 6 more shots
Great game! The reinforcements strat made the guard infantry very realistic! They should have something like this for Tyranids. Like every turn a new wave of critters show up for free..
My sentiments exactly - guard and nids are very similar in how they play, but nids need that little extra staying power on the board to be able to compete
Great game from both players! Way to keep playing through it! Tak watch out for that Manichus for up invuln Save ability. It has to be used at the beginning of the shooting phase you don’t get to use it in response.
Nick, what were those roles man? That has to be the most unluckiest roles I’ve ever seen. Like, you weren’t even getting ones, even though you could often times reroll ones, you just kept getting twos.
So funny that I ended up watching this video the night before I play Questor Mechanicus knights vs Ultramarines! Guess there's a lot of admech/imperium civil war going around xD
great Game! One small error on Taks side: Defend the divine work from the Manipulus needs to be aktivated at the start of the phase, you can't decide after beeing fired at. 👍
A. You don’t concentrate on risks. You concentrate on results. No risk is too great to prevent the necessary job from getting done. - Chuck Yeager SPLIT FIRE FOR THE EMPEROR
Hold on a second, there is clearly 1 UNPAINTED Sicarian infiltrator (you can see that at 17:43) which means Tak gets -10 points for not having a fully painted army which means Nick WINS :DDD
I'd love it if the RC tank is called Thomas the Tank Engine and in a future episode it gains sentience (gets controlled by a third player) and both armies have to take it down :p

36:13 Perhaps i missed something, but since it's 2 sixes on a save from Kastelan robots, doesn't this mean what Leman Russ should've taken 2 mortal wounds?

ROBOTS!
The game summarised
Nick: rolls a billion wounds
Tak: rolls, shrugs, “I’m okay”
"I think I felt a breeze"
"Sir, you have pancreatic cancer"
*dice rustling*
"I'm okay"
Must have been the wind
Wait, is the tank equivalent of shrugging wiggling his cannon around?
The admech simply had the “Nah, I’d Win” mindset
The remote controlled tank has the Omnissiah's approval! Also, great army choices, I love both of these.
Those Dragoons _also_ have the Omnissiah's blessing lol.
that Enginseer must be so confused right now. he was sent to just do some routine investigations while everyone else went to kill shit, and suddenly he's being heralded over the noosphere as the lynchpin in the battle's victory.
You know when you’re unqualified for your job, but somehow manage to get stuff done?

We did. Sorry for missing that.
@@PlayOnTabletop it's all good 👍 just wanted to make sure you guys caught it.

Didnt they reflect everything on 5s?
Yeah that tank would've been killed later otherwise.

It’s a band called Infected. The song played was “As Death Circles Around Us”. These guys write music about video games actually! Super dope band.
I loved the song during the ad mech unit introduction... Does anyone recognise it / know the song name?
@@JimBobJohnsonTheThird Thanks for letting me know, I'm definitely going to check them out!

Pretty sure Tau have a better winrate than several factions. I dont think anyone ca
Im very impressed Tak was able to win a game with admech. Very well played!
@@stuartlittledrowning4965 just wait til he fills out his army. He's mowing through these guys, already. This could be the Year uv the Tak
Sometimes I feel like nick's dice are weighted. And not in a way for him to always roll well lol.
Tak's dice often seem like they're weighted - just look at how many 6s to save he made this game
He's been around Steve too much
I love Nick's Tau but ive also been really happy to see him play Guard! I've always loved guard but sometimes I feel like im the only one pushing leman russes around out here. For Cadia!!
You are not alone, other armies may have more glitz and glam, but there are always a few of us out there holding the line.
Russes and baneblades brother. They need to see the field more
Russes are literally one of the most entertaining kits to build and paint, which is how I ended up with 4 ( and I don’t even play Guard).
Those batreps are really getting next level. Very clear explaination, excellent editing on overview, cards and events. Music is good. Great player energy and beautiful armies. 🙌 This was awesome to watch.

@play_on_tabletop ummm. 'Send me a message'. New member 23 minutes ago? Lol. Nice try scamming me.
My two favourite armies fighting each other! That should be fun.
I don't know what y'all changed, but the music has been reeeeeeally good in the last few weeks. Happy new year!
As always, you guys have the best production value in the business. Absolutely loved the music choices this game!
I’m glad tak is ok

Wtf is that Rogal!!!! That is the coolest practical electronics effect I've seen in a 40k model.
I’d really love to keep seeing more Astra Militarum games from y’all! Recently bought their combat patrol, so I’ve been kinda fixated on them lol
Love the metal soundtrack! Just makes the story more epic!
Rolling that 1 during split fire was - Hilarious, Embarrassing and just Beautiful. Good job!
Absolutely brilliant game, well done guys!
Those dice rolls hurt to watch!

36:14 - exterminator get 2 mortal wounds?
Oh... didn`t read comments.
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode! Another nail-biter between Tak vs Nick!!! The dark UI background and background music were excellent touches as well!
i dream of the day that nick will bring gaunt's ghosts on the tabletop🙏🙏
What an awesome game! Love it when Tak pulls out the Mechanicus!
Always love seeing those Kastellans. Their visors are so good.

@play_on_tabletop Ive WoN?! What did I win?!
Digging the White/Black theme. Much easier on the eyes and easier to read everything.
Insanely good game, can't believe how tough those guard tanks are.
Happy new year guys! For future games, if your rolling that much dog in earlier turns, DO NOT SPLIT FIRE!
Those absolutely mad save rolls from Tak 100% won him this match, dude was rolling rocks to keep his units alive.
That was a lot closer than I thought it would be

To only be usable for 3mo until the next edition releases😞
At the end of the edition lmao
It's not looking good for us 😂
