  • Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

    11:15 .. thanks for turning the camera there.. Insaf court.. lived there in mid 90s with family in my teens.. Walked through those internal roadways every day to soi 11 and 15... me favorite though take a walkimg short cut through (inside) ambassador hotel to main road.. At the time Sukhumvit artery was all sunny road.. No overhead train or bridge..

      Things must have really changed since the 90s. I was born on a US Navy base in Guam and lived on bases in Spain. It's good to live abroad early in life

    Probably a dumb question, but I haven't been to Bangkok yet. So always been curious. At most of the small bars do you pay in cash for each drink or are you able to run a tab? Maybe depends on if they take credit cards I guess? Just always wondered. Loving all the videos and the time that you put in making them!

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Bangkok, it depends. In Pattaya, 99% of the time, you get a "bin". Just a wooden cup with your receipt. Each drink you order or food, they change the recept. In Bangkok, I'd say 80% of bars do this. Other bars will run the tab at the cash register. It's rare, but I've seen a few want payment on each drink. Some bars will add a small fee, maybe one or two percent for peanuts or popcorn. You might order a 120b beer, and the check says 126b, etc.. Some bars in Thailand will charge the customer the 3% fee Visa charges the merchant. Nobody will take American Express. Maybe a high end place. I think they charge 5% to the merchant. Check your bin each round. Honest mistakes happen. I personally tip a little, but it's not expected. If my tab is 340b, I'll leave 400. 360 would be appreciated. But again, that's up to you. If the waitress is running around making sure everyone has a new drink, I'm OK with tipping. If she's on her phone, ignoring the customers, I'm OK not tipping. If you do want to tip the entire staff, put that money inside the change holder. If you want to tip your specific person, put that on top of the holder. Or better yet, just say this is for you. A few times, I tried to tip a hard-working person, and I saw her place the cash in the shared box. The simple answer is you'll probably get a bin.

      Cash is the go and I probably would not run up a tab pay for each drink as you go stops any problems you might have with being over charged the last thing you want in a foreign country is to get involved with arguments you won't win

    Insaf 60000 THB month for 2 bedroom

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      60K is nothing for a 2 bedroom in some parts of town. Soi 13 is a popular area. My friend gets an expense account. Use it or lose it. He pays 80k for a huge 2 bedroom in Ekkamai. I think it's 140m. Asoke/Nana has some of the most expensive apartments in BKK. Me, I'm happy with my older building. 19K for a 53m is fine with me.

    • @mmaranta785
      @mmaranta785 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EagerExpat I noticed the square footage of the insaf was way more than I would need, I live in a 2 bedroom condo in the SF Bay Area and it’s 816 sq feet. So what you’re saying is 60000 THB is cheap for that area.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mmaranta785 I'm not sure the size of that condo. It's all about what you want to pay. You can pay 4000b to 150,000b a month for a Bangkok condo. Maybe more. Is it 200m to the train or 2 miles? Is it in Asoke (center of town) or Bearing (10 miles away)
      Is the place 140m (1500 sq ft), 80m (861 sq ft) 54m (580 sq ft) 35m (376 sq ft) or 27m (290 sq ft)?
      The most common size is 31m to 35m. You can pay as low as 12K, or in a popular area near the train, it might be 25K to 35k. It all depends on the age of the building.
      I got lucky. I have a 1 bed 54m I got for 19K. Most in my building are 22K to 25k. It's close to the Phrom Phong station. Prime location.
      If you want 80m anywhere in central Bangkok, I'd guess 50K to 80K. It depends again on age, distance to train, etc..
      Most people who move to BKK are trying to save cash in retirement , etc.. I lived in a 31m for a year. Now I have the 54m. It cost $200 more a month. But, I was in OnNut and I wanted to be in Phrom Phong. On Nut is cheaper. Bearing is cheaper than On Nut.
      But, if your coming from the Bay Area, you're probably used to crazy expensive rent. So anything over here is going to be cheap. You can get a fancy large (for SE Asia) condo near the train for $1500. Or do what most of us do and live in 375 sq ft for $500.
      There are a thousand choices. Check out this video I made on condos.
      th-cam.com/video/kxTI325GXyA/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/OThASpJMGGI/w-d-xo.html
      One thing that's funny over here. As long as a building is clean in SFO, nobody cares if it was made in 1969 or 2023. In BKK if the building is 15 years or older, the price goes down. I live in a nice 18 year old building. The building 200 feet away is 3 years old. The same size unit I have is three times the price. Welcome to Thailand. Don't let it confuse you. Decide where you want to live, get over here, and you'll figure it out. You'll need to figure out if you need 860 sq ft. If you do, that's almost 3 times more space than most people have in the city. So, it will all decide on what section of town you pick. Best of luck. Maybe a thumbs up would help the channel. Thanks much
