I'm Joe. I retired in San Diego and moved to Bangkok, Thailand. I love to travel and that will continue. I'm just having a little fun with this channel. Hopefully a video might help someone who is planning to visit SE Asia.
Here are a few of my favorite travel card links on the channel banner. Flying for free or enjoying a nice hotel is always a good thing.

Rama 9 Area Of Bangkok
I took the MRT Blue Line two stations from Sukhumvit. The Rama 9 area of Bangkok, Thailand is very popular. I walked past the Esplanade and a few other malls. I also passed the Embassy of China. Then I headed to the large Home Pro on Rama 9.

How's it going? We've had some great meetups from the channel. I had a few subscribers tell me they missed the community announcement for the last meetup at O Shea's on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1. We'll be having at least one meetup a month (maybe two) in the future. If you want to be on the look out for the community notice that's great. I will also make a group email announcement at eagerexpat@yahoo....

Brand New Food Court In Bangkok

I headed to a brand new food court in Bangkok, Thailand. The Chapter Market had a soft opening Dec 9, 2024. Music, drinks and food. It's probably not on Google Maps yet. Bangkok Barber Working Seven Days A Week
Thanks for the video. I grew up in Subic Bay....Mayani village I think it was called my father was NIS stationed on the USS Coral Sea.
Another Home Pro worth trying Joe is Home Pro Phloen Chit opposite Central Embassy. I think it has about 5 floors so you can buy most things.
Yes, I've been in there many times. But, this store on Rama 9 was ten times larger. I like to see all the tile and flooring choices. I did a lot of re-modeling back in the day.
18:30 I couldn't agree with you more. If your bored in Bangkok, it's your own fault. Unlike New York, in Bangkok you could go to any location with no concern about gangs/ turf, drug addicts, or the color of your skin in an "off limits" neighborhood.
Yes, a small percentage of people just sit at home and watch TV. They would be bored in any city. That's not a Bangkok thing. That's a boring person thing.
The VIP motorcade probably distracted, but 200 yards into soi 18 on the left there is ‘No Idea’ great quality western gastro-pub food, a bit expensive but good.
I know I've pointed that place out in other videos. It's on my list to try
Great video injoy your walking around the city and looking at shopping mall.. 😁👍📹🇺🇸
I appreciate you watching
I just stayed at the Siamese Exclusive 31 and it’s a really nice building, not budget friendly at all but really nice, quite, very private and, the elevator for the suites have a direct entrance to each room.
Sounds like a nice place. Soi 31 is a great location
When I and my Thai wife move back in 18 months to 2 years, anything that we couldn’t fit in suitcases will be shipped over. She gets a one time no customs charged as she has been out of Thailand for the required time frame. It’s too bad that it doesn’t include my motorcycle
I didn't know about the one-time no customs. That will be nice
Ford Ranchero. Had a few of those.
That's a nice car
nice video, good to see people like you telling that lady she drop something, don't see that much anymore in calif
Ya. we all drop something at some point. I left my wallet at the Big C last week The young cashier came running after me. I gave her a nice tip. What a hassle that would have been
Hey joe! Great video it is
I appreciate you watching
I walked around today and it seems to me that,. from my own limited experience in downtown Bangkok, the strreets were strangely uncrowded, maybe everyone is waiting for the 31st.
Yes, half the town has this week off. Even immigration is closed until January 2. Everyone headed off on trips
Hey Joe, there is a short cut through the Rembrandt to move between Soi 18 & 20. We used this on a number of occasions when we were last there. Down the side of the building. Cheers
Yes, I should have mentioned that. I use it too. We hang out at the Blue Boar on Soi 18 and pop out by the Deck on Soi 20
Area looks really “homey “ and beautiful greenery helps😊 How far is that Nakamura bakery?
It's a nice place. The bakery is next to the Royal Oak on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1
I live near lak song and you pronounced it almost correctly
Thanks for watching
Nice vlog mate 🙏🙏🙏
I appreciate you watching
The Rembrandt on Soi20 is where I stayed for my 5 week visit. From what I could gather I was in the older building of the Rembrandt. I stayed in their Grand Suit, including breakfast for about $72/night.The room was about 80 square meters with a kitchenete. I was on the 31st floor which provide a pretty nice view of the city.
That's a nice area. Sounds like a nice hotel
They love a bit of drama the politicians don't they🎉🎉🎉,😊
They sure do.
Thanks for taking us to another cool street Joe.
I appreciate you watching
Of all possible luxury items one can buy, none is more worth the money than GREAT BED SHEETS! Bad bed sheets are like woolen tighty whities. no one could possibly ever want that.
It's probably a good idea to bring a nice set from home. They can be expensive here
Artis is a great coffee shop popular with the digi nomad crowd. I used to stop off everyday on my way to my coworking space. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the tip
28 years at purple, not UPS, and I've had one office every year gift me a 2lb box of See's🤤. Sadly/Gladly it will be the last time. March i will retire and start in Japan, hoping to get a Dodgers ticket, then head over to Thailand for a month or two or three 😊
That's great to hear. You'll miss out on the 2lb box, but it will be worth it. Keep an eye out for community notices on the meetups. Or join the email list at eagerexpat@yahoo.com. See ya in a couple months.
I think $3,000 usd a month is plenty for a single person.
Come on over and give it a try. You can live pretty nice on $3000. You can live like a king and spend like crazy on $4000. Try doing that in the US.
Good one!
Thanks for watching
The Puzzle Room is not a Board Game shop, but rather an Escape Room establishment.
Thanks for the tip
I wonder if it is a good idea to rent a bigger place and have an expat as a roommate.
Having your own place is always better. Even a large place is affordable. Keep in mind it takes $30 to cool a 31m place. I pay closer to a $100 for a larger 54m place. But, it's worth it to me.
Wow. 30 plus years working at USPS. Your government pension must be very good. I am jealous. Pension is almost a thing in the past.
It's not a huge pension, but it's better than many people get. Which is often zero these days
Thanks for the channel shipmate! Bangkok is crazy hot. Did it take you a while to acclimate to the heat when you first got there??
Not too long. Today it's the cool season. It was 70 degrees for a week and felt like it was 50 degrees. It's still cool at night. Maybe 70. Most people that complain about the heat are out walking at 9am to 3pm. The hottest part of the day. Sleep in until 10am. Do your walking until midnight and it's fine. Even in April the hottest month of the year. 9pm still might be 95 degrees, but without the sun it feels ok.
Been to the horse races. Fun. Pretty low key for the general public.
I used to love to go to Del Mar. Where the surf meets the turf. I may still go check out the races here sometime. Just for fun.
I couldn't let Sexy Cow go without description. It's an "upscale steak and seafood" restaurant. US $50 for a Wagyu Burger is the least expensive item on the menu but realistically you should expect to pay $200 per person for dinner.
Yeah, the Hyatt Place on Soi 24 is playing games with availability lately. Will try the brand new Hyatt Place on Sukhumvit 1 next time, let us know if you stay there and how you like it.
There is a Hyatt Place on Soi 1 near the hospital?
@@EagerExpat Yes, actual address is: 78 Sukhumvit Soi 1. Second Cat 1 Hyatt Place in Bangkok, hope this too does not play availability games
Last time I was there was 1984
@vanman4x4 I was there in 84, 85 and 87. Crazy back then
This walk brings back memories. I stayed at the Grande Centre Point Rachadamri back in March.
I appreciate you watching
G'Day Joe, had I known you were doing another tag-a-long tour of my neighbourhood, you could have come in for a coffee. I am at the Marigolds Ratchadamri Boulevard, the codos are attached to the back of the Waldorf. Seems funny watching your videos where I'm living now, almost surreal 555.
I like the Ratchadamri area.
I stayed at that Waldorf Astoria for one night I used my Amex fhr reward got 200 off and it was still another 100 but well worth it as it had the best hotel breakfast buffet I have had. And yes you have to take the elevator up to I think it was the 15th floor for registration.
The Waldorf is a great hotel. You get what you pay for.
« Lemon Farm » on soi Langsuan is NOT a restaurant ! It is a supermarket of mainly organic foods.
Can Any one provide me any shop WhatsApp number? I need a mother board for iphone 12promax. thank you
You need to go in person. Nothing will get done over the phone
@@EagerExpat thank you. But I just want to know price for parts I am looking for first. I shall visit next week.
We used to give each other IVs in Afghanistan after our missions. Felt real good getting those fluids direct.
You cant say mater dei without thinking of a nun with a ruler.😊
They didn't tolerate much back then.
Happy holidays, Joe. I’ll be back in Thailand the middle of January to the middle of February. Shopping isn’t my national, pastime but I’ve been shopping in the U.S. for items deeply discounted, like quality bedsheets and Milwaukee tools and Milwaukee outdoor lawn and tree care equipment. Whatever I can fit in my 2 checked luggage and carryon. At some point, I want to fly between the U.S. and Thailand carrying nothing but a backpack. Looking forward to cool weather in Chiangmai, as I’ll be working both on my house and the landscaping. This trip should finish the work on the house. When I retire to Chiangmai in 2 years, I want nothing to do except cut the grass, take care of landscaping and stock my concrete pond with koi fish.
That's like a good plan. Happy holiday's
Looking forward to your New Years vid. Happy holidays!
More videos to come. Happy holiday
Yeah Central World Mall is for sure my favourite mall , great food court , lots of shops and a great plaza in front with many different theme events. I guess I have never been a huge designer brand kind of person. I like the vibe in the em district esp the outdoor area just off the street , cool restaurants and live bands in the courtyard. Hope you have had a great time during Xmas
I like Central World too. That's a great area. Enjoy the holiday season
Happy Holidays mate.... By way of feedback your tag-a-long tours have been really helpful in deciding where to take a condo. We settled just around the corner from Central World. Maybe catch up for a beer sometime.
That's a great area. Yes well grab a beer soon. I'm having at least one meetup a month. Maybe two. Keep an eye on the community notices or I started an email list at eagerexpat@yahoo.com. Shoot me an email if you want to be on the meetup list. Happy holidays
Great tour!
Thanks for watching
Merry Christmas, Joe!!
Merry Christmas to you as well
Merry Christmas got to watch my Chiefs wrap up the #1 seed I will be over there mid January I guess I will have to watch the playoffs at my hotel because the bars are always closed over there for football other than the bone they throw out for the superbowl.
You just have to know where to go. 5-10 people show up to watch a US game in Bangkok at 2am. Or they would stay open. But, the Sportsman on Soi 13 is usually open. Happy holidays
having friends to chat and vent is very very important enjoy while its there i can tell ya it does not last forever as we age…sadly we lose them year after year…Merry Christmas to all of ya.!
I hear ya man. Swing by the meetups when you are free. Get on the email list or I'll post a community notice. It's a great spot to meet fellow expats and like minded visitors. If you're not on the list, shoot me a message at eagerexpat@yahoo.com
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas 🎄 and happy New Year’s!
Happy holidays!
