Friday & Saturday In Bangkok
I really enjoy living in Thailand. Follow along on a Friday & Saturday in Bangkok, Thailand. I met my girlfriend Boon when she left work at Emsphere Mall near Sukhumvit Soi 22. Then we headed over to the Hangover Bar on Soi 22. The next day we headed to lunch at O'Shea's on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 in Phrom Phong.
Check out the travel cards I use. If you're from the US, maybe they will work for you. Plus, I receive a few miles for sending them a new customer. If the card is a good fit, I thank you for using my link.

    Joe, I tried 4 times to simply get a vanilla donut at Butter Bear and between the long lines and the unorganized staff, I never got one. The Japanese buy many boxes of their cookies. They had 6 workers standing around and only one guy working the cash register, it was too time consuming and frustrating. I am actually looking into who owns it and trying to see if a stock of some kind is available in the stock market for it because that place is a huge winner. People were going nuts over it. I tried Capone's Pizza by the slice on soi 23 near the soi cowboy entrance. Very good pizza but I still give Soho the nod. I'll be back for Xmas and I will simply find you as I am sure that Stella will have some kind of Xmas party. That Stella is a good person to know if any questions about anything arise in Thailand. Air Asia has a great special this summer. For $311 you can fly anywhere in se asia as many times as you like. Regarding language. If you're having a direct one to one conversation people will speak English. If you are in a crowd of 2 or more people they will speak thai, tagalog or visaya. Don't expect them to speak english because you're there unless they're high class that have manners and discernment. Most aren't high class just like the states or uk.

The stay & spend challenges were so easy if you were in Thailand, Malaysia or Bali. Then spending the points during IHG pointbreak promos. Many Hilton properties including the Doubletree you cut thru to the Mall has 4th or 5th night free using points. And you don’t have to have their credit card. This card game is something I’m just now playing around with. Always thought it would hurt your credit but it doesn’t if you pay off when due. My favorite is the Chase Sapphire Reserve card as well. The travel insurance benefits with it are amazing and beyond the other outstanding benefits it has.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nah it's doesn't hurt your credit. At one time I had 50 cards open. I was still over 800. If you do have say 10 cards open, keep the Reserve at say 10K, but lower all the other cards to 2k or 3K credit limits. Having 15K or 20K available on each card, for a total of 100k, etc.. available credit, will hurt your chances of getting a new card. There is a chance you could run off and charge up 100k in one day. The computer doesn't like to see that. Also never close a card, especially your oldest. That hurts your credit history. You can have had mortgages for 30 years. The history on cards is weighed more heavy. Read about all this at Doctor of Credit.

    • @Goldfinger555
      @Goldfinger555 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s a lot of cards to manage. You’re a master at the game. Never thought about lowering the credit limits. Good idea.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Goldfinger555 That's was back in the day. I'm not sure what I have today. Maybe 10. The other issue is there is an unwritten rule on how much credit they will give you. 10 years ago you wanted 20K on each card. When you got denied, you called in reconsideration. You would then move credit around. Take 2k of this card, 5k of that and give me a new card with 7k limit. These days, they usually wont do that. It's better to do it ahead of time and let the robot approve you.

    This is great information, thank you for this! I am a Navy Veteran too and considering moving over for a period of time. I am a bit worried about the tax piece, as I really do not want to pay taxes on my income in Thailand as that would really decrease the value of moving there. With that said, is it possible to simply use a debit card like Swab that reimburses you for ATM fees and go cash as much as possible? Thank you Sir!

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat วันที่ผ่านมา

      Live where you want to live. The Facebook warriors have no idea what's going to happen about the tax situation. They love to say you will be double taxed at 35%. Nothing has been released stating that. Thailand doesn't even operate that way. You probably need a salary well over 150K (US) to even get in the 35% bracket. Yet, some guy online who gets $1000 month social security thinks he will be taxed 35%. There are double tax treaties in place. More than likely, if you paid tax in the US, you won't pay a second time in Thailand. The rate you pay in the US is more a concern. Hopefully, that won't be 50% one day. Maybe we will need to fill out another form at immigration showing tax was paid. Well see. They haven't told us. Yet the "sky is falling" types online have it all figured out. It's true, the guy who makes $1000 probably didn't pay any tax on that sum in the US. Personal exemptions, etc.. I have no idea if there are write offs and exemptions in Thailand. To think they will compare your US tax form to a Thai form is pretty crazy. They would need 1000 times more agent than they have. For what? To try and get Mr $1000 for $33 of tax. I don't think so. But, like most of those guys say, "I'm going to Cambodia" Good, let them go. I guess you can live on cash. If the idea is to bounce in and out of the country for a few months at a time, at some point they will stop you. If you want to come over for 30 days (maybe 60 soon? Again wait and see) Then get a 30 day extension, for a total of 90 days, you should be able to do that at least once a year. If you want to do that twice a year, I'd guess come year three, you might be pulled into the small room at the airport. If you want a real visa, you will need a Thai account. It will need 800K ($23,000) That has to come from abroad, not an ATM. We will see what happens on the tax. If I had to guess, it's another piece of paper. Maybe, and it's a big maybe, they will tax the difference on US tax to Thai tax. But, they don't really have the resources to collect that. I doubt they want to see thousands of good expats run away over a double tax. You won't find a landlord that will take cash. So plan on double the price for a hotel. Or AirBnB on a credit card. For instance, they announced last year they would start a 300b tax on incoming airline flights. To cover idiots who crash motorbikes without insurance. They asked the airlines to collect it. The airlines said no. The other week, they said, Ok forget it. I remember the Facebook commandos going crazy over that too. I have no idea what the future holds tax wise. I'll deal with it if anything happens. My rent is $500 a month for a luxury apartment. If for some reason I have to pay $500 a year tax, or whatever the next fee will be, I've saved that living here in 1 month. So it's all relative.

If you had the card and (whatever it's called today) Globalist, you got free breakfast buffet, which was amazing. I think they took that away, but it's $9? What do you mean don't ring the bell? I'm earned 100K Alaska miles ringing that bell. Ha ha

    You may not know the real information. The arrangement of 1st world countries, 2nd world countries, and 3rd world countries actually has discrepancies. The 1st world country is the free world on the side of the salad, which Thailand was in that group from the beginning. The second world countries are communist camp countries. Third world countries, on the other hand, were born during the post-Cold War era.

      I'm not sure. I read a few things about BRICS. China, Russia, India, etc.. My guess it won't change life for expats. I'm welcome today, alongside many Russian expats. I think Chinese are the number one tourists to Thailand. It just sounds like business. Thailand also just hosted APEC last year. The US vice president showed up. Sitting next to Chinese reps. I'm just a regular guy, but I think this is all about money. It will have little affect on expats. We bring money here too.

I don't think TH-cam is cutting costs. They're a business selling advertising. I'd say 99% of those clients aren't interested in being associated with Soi Cowboy, etc.. I'm sure there are other topics the bots look for. They shut the video off and you ask for a human to review. I did a video on Nana Plaza in the day. It was all G rated. It was cut from earning. I appealed and it was approved. The problem is you might get 2000 views when it comes out that earns nothing, then they turn it on.

    Do you recommend retaining your USA mobile phone account after moving to Thailand while opening a separate Thai mobile account? If so, do you continue linking your USA based accounts (i.e. credit cards, NFCU checking account, health insurance policy, etc.) to your USA based mobile number? Thank you!

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Everyone has a system. I did bring a US number with me. The trouble is, if it doesn't hit a US cell tower in a few years, they may shut it down. We were talking about that at a bar last night. My one buddy said, he had his Verizon out of the US for 10 years and only returned to the US twice. So who knows if that rule is enforced. I just went over two years and I'm still working. I have a $55 T Mobile plan. I know a few people that have Mint Mobile $10 plan. I think it's on T Mobile network? Maybe that's an option. It's best to be used on Wi-Fi calling at home anyhow. Bottom line, having a US number has made my life easier with OTP's and calling older relatives that don't know how to use What's App. They can text you for free and you can call them on WiFi calling. I also have a Thai number. That's really cheap. I have What's App on that for those in the US that have that. I can't call Wifi from a Thai number to a US number. I could call the US in an emergency. I never have. Maybe 30 cents a minute?

      @EagerExpat 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a nice number. I like the frequent miler. Good website, and they started a TH-cam channel. Yes, it's much easier to find awards with two one ways. If you search, leaving the first and returning the 26th, if one leg isn't available, you won't get the other date. With points, two one ways is the same price as a rt

That will depend how you spend them. You can also hire someone to get the best use out of the miles. I think that isn't needed. You can do anything you want. The Amex points and Capitol One transfer to many of the same airlines. The Delta are meh, but they have these flash sales. Atlanta to Paris, 1 week only, etc.. Do about 3 or 4 hours of reading at Flyertalk. Decide where you want to go. Of the top of my head, Cathay is a partner of Amex and Capitol One. If you want to come to Bangkok, see who offers the lowest rate. Maybe Cathay, maybe it's Air Canada flying on ANA. You find the award and then move the miles over and book within 1 minute. You have a dozen options with all those miles. Just don't do something crazy like pay 400,000 rt a ticket for business. It should be 60k, 70, maybe 90k at worst one way in business. Take a dozen flights instead of two. Have fun

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think I've checked a bag a handful of times in 100 points flights. But, there's no extra cost on any airline to pick a seat or check a bag. In fact, most international flights give you 2 bags. There are weight restrictions. But maybe 50 pounds a bag? If you use AA miles, you need to then go to JAL or Cathay to pick a seat. But that's free.
