My main problem with BP overall is their lack of concern for preserving their media. So much of this franchise's content is on the verge of becoming lost to time. And fans like myself are having to pick up where BP has been lacking. All the while BP has been actively sabotaging media preservation efforts done by fans while continuing to REFUSE to release their media in a legal format. Fans want to be able to buy content to support this franchise but we're rarely given the opportunity to. It took how many years for ALVINNN to be fully available on streaming? And not to mention the hundreds of original songs that are just sitting there collecting dust in a vault somewhere. It's pitiful.
If I were to take the helm my focus would be less on the next installment and more on preserving and releasing the already existing media in a format accessible to ALL fans regardless of region. (Like oh, I don't know, a youtube channel or something.) Enough promising things that never see the light of day. Focus on what already exists. For a franchise that re-spawned from the idea of preserving a dead man's legacy, there's so little concern for actual media preservation from the people in charge.
Ross and Janice aren't going to live forever and I think we all need to accept the fact that someday, someone else is going to have to take the reins. Maybe Vanessa and Michael will be willing to do it, maybe not. But someone will have to or this franchise will die with them. They really need to think about what's going to be done when they're no longer able to continue. I definitely think that should be more of a focus now than whatever the next installment may be. They aren't getting any younger.

I agree, Ross and Janice must pass the torch to either Michael and Vanessa or a bigger company like Disney or Sony. Ross Jr is sadly getting up there in years and the acquisition that was announced back in 2021 hadn't happened yet. I think the best option is to let another company (Paramount or Disney) take the reins, that way AATC will continue until the sun explodes. BP is WAY TOO overprotective of The Chipmunks and Chipettes and that is a big problem, when you look at their Wikipedia page, you can see how many lawsuits they filed. Also, BP must stop with their sabotaging of preserving Chipmunk media, it's the internet age, nothing is sacred anymore. The 90s to 2000s was The Internet Revolution, and now we are in The AI Revolution, this is the world we live in now.
It's time for the Bagdasarians to pass on the franchise to someone else, a much bigger company. Just like how George Lucas sold and passed on Lucasfilm to Disney. I hope it'll be Disney or Sony as they are my preferred choices.
I'll leave you with this pitch of a new TV series (which will be a streaming service series since we are now in the streaming age and live TV airings are becoming a thing of the past):
The title of this hypothetical series will simply just be: *The Chipmunks!* (with an exclamation point)
It's opening theme song will be a remix medley of Christmas Don't Be Late, We're The Chipmunks, and The Girls/Boys of Rock 'n' Roll.
The show will be computer-animated (animated in CGI) by WildBrain.
All of its seasons will have 30 episodes each
All episodes will have a 22-minute runtime.
The show would last for eight to nine seasons.
Along the way, it'll have an Easter special, Summer special, Halloween special, and a Christmas special. The Easter, Summer, and Halloween specials will have a 40-minute runtime. And the Christmas special will have a 1-hour runtime.
The show will have a balance of both covers and original songs.
Two feature-length movies in the same continuity as this hypothetical new show, both movies will be released in both theaters and streaming. The first movie titled: "The Chipmunks Move!" will be based on both A Chipmunk Reunion and The Chipmunks Story from the 80s series, Godfather Part 2 style. And the second movie will have an original story with some elements of the 84' Valentine Special involving Alvin and Brittany (Captain Chipmunk will make a comeback), and a side story involving Theodore and Eleanor (with maybe Dave involved).
There'll be some episodes that deal with four serious issues: Loss, Disability, Sexism, and Divorce.
It must have *LESS* gross-out humor, lessened to 5%.
Alvin and Brittany will still be portrayed as rivals, but later on, they will develop romantic feelings for each other. Even when they really care for each other (and romantically) they'll still have a little bit of rivalry. Most of the time, Brittany and the Chipettes will be the ones coming out on top.
The relationship between Simon and Jeanette and the relationship between Theodore and Eleanor will all be further explored. Simon and Jeanette will have strong feelings for each other (even become romantic later on), and Theodore and Eleanor will have a romantic relationship.
And The Chipmunks and The Chipettes will have new designs (I'm working on the new designs and outfits and I'll send them to you for them to be pitched).
I'm currently working on new designs for the six Chipmunks (some will have ones close to the ALVINNN designs and some will have ones that are amalgamations of the '83 and ALVINNN designs), we'll pitch the new designs to whoever will helm the future of the franchise.

I believe this franchise has a lot of potential of being a good franchise again especially with collaboration. We just need fans who know the series and since Vanessa is fan, she should get more control of it but also have younger fan involved. We also need more voice actors for the upcoming show besides the family and friends. Some of the writers I've seen, I think they can do better if they had more creative control. They also need to do what these characters are famous for and how their characters define them. They had that idea in the beginning but it needs to be executed much better.
In the 2015 series in particular, there are positives as well as negatives. Some of the episodes are good and there are great characters out there.
Simon, Eleanor, even Theodore's characters are well executed in my opinion because that is what I envision of what their characters are like. In fact Eleanor's character is the best I've seen. I also love Ms. Croner. Additionally the songs are actually bops not going to lie. I also like Alvin's ADHD like characteristics and him being portrayed as an adolescent going through teen angst.
However I want the characters in the future show to not be so rushed and more well looked into. That was what they didn't do in the 2015 series. Some of the story lines I saw could've been better executed if the episode was 22 minutes long. I want the villains of the show and the future show to be more of a threat the Chipmunks and the Chipettes. The Dave and the 6 chipmunks should be better executed. First off the Chipettes are kids. Where are their parents or anyone? In the 1980's series, this issue has been solved but why couldn't they in the 2015 series? If the Chipmunks can be raised by a parent, the Chipettes need that guidance too. However the Chipmunks can also pull off living together on their own as well, especially since Simon can take charge as seen in Animal House Party and things are smooth sailing.
Alvin is famous for his mischief backstage and in the studio and how he charms people. He also comes up with the greatest plots that is outrageous people can laugh. THAT could've been better executed because Alvin is more competent and bold than this. In the 2015 series, nobody can catch Alvin a break. They're always screaming at him even when things are not even his fault. That takes away the purpose of the Alvin yell Dave is famous for. Nobody does the Alvin yell better than Dave. The others can do another gag if they're annoyed with Alvin. Eleanor can smack Alvin upside the head for example. Dave as I said before is known for the Alvin yell, but Dave is also a fair dad and we didn't see that. He is also known for yelling "Simon, Theodore, Alvin!" yell as well. We didn't see that in the 2015 series either. When it comes to consequences, Alvin NEVER gets away with his actions. When the other kids act out, Dave lets them off the hook or punishes Simon and Theodore in particular less severely. The girls ALWAYS get away with their actions when they misbehave. No consequences nothing. Brittany is known for being a shopaholic diva. I didn't get to see it in the 2015 series as much as I should. I envisioned her taking HOURS to get ready, and probably show up late because of her desire to look her best, and also be pushy and rude to her sisters. We need to bring that back. As for Jeanette, her shyness, clumsiness, daydreaming, and easily distracted SHOULD be discovered more as well as her wisdom. The Chipettes' personalities should be looked into more as individuals like how and I want their fights to be more tense and Brittany's teasing to be more pronounced. That is what I miss from the 1980's.
As for wardrobe in the 2010's, the designers can do way better and stick to the trend of that era. What I saw in that show what kids and adults wore in 2008. Where is the animal print, chevron, owl designs, etc.? Theodore could've wear clothes that are more suitable for a young child. Alvin can wear more fashionable men's casual attire, even vintage things from the 1980's and 90's. He is from California so he is more than capable of pulling that California look. He even can be seen wearing sports jerseys from Los Angelas or San Fransisco teams. What Theodore wore in the 2015 series, Eleanor should've worn that because that suits her. Eleanor, bows and skirts do not suit her in my opinion. It makes her look childish and in the 2015 series or what I think of Eleanor, that is not what I envision Eleanor wearing. Eleanor is a freaking tomboy. Brittany wore a basic cardigan and leggings. So not Brittany. Leggings belong with Jeanette. For Brittany I see her wear more fashionable attire similar to how models wore clothes during the 2015 era. Brittany can even wear earrings. As for Jeanette as I said before, leggings suit her but I also see her wear turtlenecks, more baggy clothes. Her hair being more messy. As for Dave, I love his attire but I want to see more variety. Generally speaking, I wish there was more variety of clothes when it comes to events. Additionally the girls should have experiment what they can do with their hair styles.
In the future if there is a reboot, the show should be more story based and not random episodes, similar to the 2012 series of TMNT but also a comedic approach like the 1961 series. I also would like see more of the 1960's, even 1980's characters come back for a few episodes and how they interact with the Chipmunks, how they interact with the Chipettes even. Heck the 2015 series characters can also come back but with another approach.
Additionally the 1961 and 1983 series should be re released along with the 2015 series and also movie and have their own channel on Pluto TV for example or other streaming service so people can watch it and even enjoy it. Creators can be inspired for the newest show and many fresh ideas can make this franchise even better.

very interesting read, there's a lot of things that I agree with(such as the Chipmunks/Chipettes personalities and longer episodes) and some that I don't(the Chipettes having modern 2015 fashion and Eleanor not having a skirt dress).
in terms of character designs/outfits, I'd want to see an 80s throwback, 80s has been very popular for a long time now and it'd be easy to justify Brittany wearing her pink dress, yellow neck bow, tights etc.
I'd also like to see more song covers alongside original songs, more globe trotting adventures too.

    • @prufan
      @prufan 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

And I can see why the Chipettes don't get in trouble in the 2015 series, since they live independent in that treehouse and don't have a Dave or Miss Miller to punish them. I can see it, the Chipettes were always pretty self reliant and capable back in the 80s era(the cgi films show this too) in comparison to the chipmunks who have always had Dave.

This reminds me of the movie Saving Mr Banks in which P.L Travers and Walt Disney clashed over how Mary Poppins should be produced since she dedicated it so much to her father and didn’t want that to be ruined until she caved in, signed it over to Disney and became a massive success.

I agree with everything you've said. This franchise could really use some new faces who grew up with AATC and respect it's legacy and the Sonic movie franchise is a perfect example of that! There needs to be some sort of happy medium between the two options. As much as it's hard to say, but Bagdasarian really do need to branch out to a company. What I would have done if I had such an honor to work with BP, I'd make sure the entire library is available to the public! Alvin Show, 80s cartoon, albums you name it! I'm just so tired of people only knowing the chipmunks from the movies when there's an entire legacy to explore!

    • @Eminster
      @Eminster 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

See the problem with trying to rerelease the 80s is that there are so many copyrighted songs the chipmunks did covers of (Michael Jackson being on of the more expensive ones) not to mention some celebrity cameos as well like Dolly Parton. The 80s series is just stuck in a limbo right now until maybe the buy out happens and a big company could possibly pay these royalties to get the cartoon re-released

I agree a 100% with your whole statement of this, i said in my other video about the chipmunks that it was Janice Kerman’s idea to make the show and look how that turned out to be a disaster, when you said that Janice Karman was the one who reinvented Simon and Theodore and made The Chipettes i never knew that’s why Theodore and Simon changed as in Simon was the voice of reason and Theodore more of the innocence one, I never knew there was behind the scenes drama with them specifically between there company and another company that makes sense.
I agree look how Sonic is doing and look how Star Wars is doing there are doing great, i understand there are trying to protect what they created, but i do agree being over protected of the brand is a BIG problem.
There are so many people who love the chipmunks, including myself i am like there biggest fan, not bragging here, but like I said in my other video I am okay with calling them out not in disrespectful still respectful but just saying that the Alvin and the chipmunks brand is a little stale, if i were them I would personally not be involved with another chipmunk project, it’s what they want to do, it’s not what we audiences want, you don’t see movie companies saying to themselves oh let’s make a movie that suits us, NO let’s make a movie that applies to all not just them and I think that’s the problem, they have so much range and control that nobody wants to step in because they have control over it, i am sure a company would love to work with them but can Ross and Janice work with other people on making something great, instead of what they want to do.
If I were there kids, I would get outside help at this point or look at a possible company that can help them, I am sure people are dying to have the brand because it is so beloved by so many I am sure they would love to help them out, maybe there kids who are more open - minded can say to there parents, look Mum, Dad I want to help with the company and make it great again let’s go to a company and let’s check it out, before we make a rash decision that’s if I would do if I would the At this point there is no saving this from a train wreck it is already a trainwreck as it.

Great video! I would like to see a new series without the Bagdasarians and we will see how it does. I understand having too much creative control has hurt the franchise over the years but I can see they want to keep it in the family and not lose the rights after 65 years. Very tricky situation but we will see where it goes into the future.

Well, I wonder how do I like one of the new animated exclusive Alvin feature in Alvin And The Chipmunks Meet The Villains which can be released on it's Buena Vista videotape and on it's Disney DVD and Blu-Ray Disc and 4K UltraHD and digital copy, it's about a lot of whole loads of Villains from one of Disney's animated feature films and their leader Jafar whom is about to take over Alvin, Simon and Theodore's performing show careers in Maleficent's castle after they throw Alvin, Simon and Theodore in the dungeon

First, before I even get into this, I wanna say, I HOPE THEY KEEP ALVIN’S NEW NERDY SIDE IN THE NEXT REBOOT!
Honestly, I still fear what would happen if they were sold to another company because I keep imagining stuff like that adult Velma scooby doo show happening.
But I agree it is probably time AS MUCH AS IT HURTS, to put them in different hands
Too bad it can’t be the hands of a bunch of loyal fans who understand the characters.
And while I agree the 2015 show has its ups and downs, I did find more enjoyment from it than most people did.
I won’t say Janice is a bad writer in every respect. She really REALLY knows how to handle the more emotional moments. But she seems to struggle with comedy and since Alvinnn is comedy based a lot of the times the emotional moments don’t properly get to land so that jokes can be made at the character’s expense. You see this in episodes like Alvin Gets Schooled and Last Day Of Summer.
Zeela the Great and Dave’s Pavilion are a good example of emotional moments done well! Same with Of Mice and Munks and even Alvin’s Wild Weekend from season 2!

While I respect/appreciate Bagdasarian for their work on the 80s series, the Chipmunk Adventure, and the two dtv monster specials, I hold a low opinion on their Alvin content post the year 2000 and think they've used up their writing and creativity.
First mistake was throwing away the 80s based version/designs, they could've done more with it.
Second mistake was the live action films and letting the writing get so bad.
Third was the Alvinnn! Show for a whole bunch of reasons(character designs that looked creepy for a fair amount of fans, tired and cliche stories, focused on annoying human characters too much etc).
I don't want them to sell the franchise, it's ruined so many others, but they need to learn from past mistakes and get some new talent.
