@@ryant114 they can keep up or surpass with performance, cost and reliability in the same form factor. i think you got mixed up saying if they were to push its power for N/A to match the power of a turbo then it wouldn't be reliable in today world. back in the 80's and early 90's. Vtec is what made them able to keep up with turbo cars. they kept front wheel drive for that purpose of cost production and consumer love the fact its a sport car without paying premium cost at the same time. gas savor, low insurance cost and maintenance. full maintenance cost you less than 100 bucks with oil chance if you do it yourself. think of spark wire and plug 4 quantity each vs 6 or 8 and perhaps lower oil capacity. manufacturer got better so vtec alone cant match the power of a turbo. nissan gtr used same tech as ford. plasma spray on their cylinder wall. it made the wall so much stronger that is why they are able to use high compression piston. high compression give you better power and much faster turbo spooling. back then turbo used low compression for reliability that is why they have so much turbo lag. other manufacture used similar tech as vtec. like vvti for example. get similar high out put. except that vtec is still better because it you both inhale and exhaust flow at the same time. some vtec sometime only allow just single side vtec but those are normally base model. before nsx release, they wanted do just engine plus electric. they tested a v10 on s2000 chassis. that was monster speed. it was so fast i think it wouldve easily get top 1st on nurburgring. due to economic that time they phase out to just v6 electric then v6 electric and turbo for the nsx.

I would beat him every time. 2 cars of that era. Now look at it. A 2021 Mustang GT with a 5.0L V8(a difference of just .4 liters) has 460 hp. Can a N/A 4 cylinder get that performance? Yes. But then you are eating away at both cost and reliability to achieve it. Anybody who has built or modified cars know that there's 3 things. Cheap, reliable, fast. You can only pick 2. I remember when Obama made all the car makers push for better fuel efficiency that in the news they said demands for turbochargers would go up to reach both performance and emissions standards. That Prelude got 20mpg to get 200 crank hp. like I said, in order to reach the levels of performance, reliability, cost, and emissions people and the government expect, turbocharging is the only solution to check all those boxes.

After doing some work with SRO and IMSA I just find that these engines are reliable for a consumer application and not a racing application. These engines do not like to be under stress for an extended period of time. I’ve seen my fair share of blow ups from rod failure. It’s a stock engine, baffled oil pan, and a modified turbo exhaust housing. IMSA BOP (310whp) on race fuel. It would be perfect if they upgraded the rods 😉
Imagine being that guy at the time attack event with your 9k engined Integra just to get smoked by a K20A2 swapped Civic with an ebay turbo kit. But props to Honda for going out their way to make this happen.
But you can also build this package up before install if the money is there. I’ll stick with my F20b turbo setup bc it’s cheaper to make hp unless i hit the lottery. lol
Wouldnt that defeat the purpose of calling it JDM :D The cool thing with the JDM car is the high reving K20 NA motor which you wouldnt find in the CL7 CL9 chassis anywhere else. But as a Euro Accord Type-S owner myself I do agree that this motor would suit the chassis. Though since its a K24 already in the car which is better, I think I would rather just do a turbo swap on the original longblock and get 450-500 crank hp.
Imagine if Honda would sell upgraded versions of the K20C with beefier internals, larger turbos, more elaborate cooling, and Honda reliable. A K23C-Z1 with 420hp/385ft-lbs with a redline of 8000 r.p.m. I would be that engine even if I didn't have a car to put it into. Yes, I'm being serious.
Imagine that in todays world 420hp out of a special developed 2.3L is nothing. Mercedes sells 2.0L with 420+ hp, Mitsubishi did it 10 years ago. BTW, Your name + my avatar :)

The better part in all this is the fact that more of these engines around with a warranty would just improve the aftermarket for them making swaps into older honda chassis way more common. Also giving honda a reason continue developing this engine and improving on it maybe putting out a k22c or a k24c. This is engine was never the best in its class it's Hondas reliability swapability and tunability that makes it appealing.

Saw on forums putting this into a Del sol makes it stick out a good 10cm or more above the hood :/ Aside from like having to rebuild the entire thing with zero room to work with, with additional issues here n there. The idea would've been nice to have a brand new engine like this in it..

For 9000.00 I had a 1.6 that was pushing 240 hp and 210lb ft 23 years ago in my 88 civic. It was a fun car and that 1.6 was bullitproof. It was parked at 468,000 miles in need of a distributer last I heard.

There's K series engines pushing 8k rpm already. You'd lose the 9k rpm and the 2.5k torqueband but gain 4.5k torqueband rpm, a stronger torque curve, and greater potential.
4Piston makes cams to rev K20c1 to 9000 Throw some rods in it - up the turbo - add the cams and make 850whp The key is the fueling - motec 142 ecu plus larger injectoes and HPFP to support the juice needed for the power level stock fuel gets iffy around 425whp or so on VP116 even less on e85

Does anyone know how to get in touch with an HPD rep? I would like to pair this with a DCT trans ( I am a paraplegic is why ) and swap it into my DC2 RS track car. I built it to look like my dream car, a 1997 Acura Integra Type R , and now I am putting it on the track. I want to do time attack and some club racing. It's what I love and I miss it so much.

Your ridgeline has 280hp 262lb-ft of torque. This engine has 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Its 9000.00, you would get way more bang for your buck with mods to your existing power plant.
They should've use the coupe si platform for the fk8 type r rather than the fk7 hatchback, looks much better with that 2 door, its like going back to the white ek9 type r

So $9k for everything and you still have to get your own transmission and axles. And no information on how much power is being made by the setup. This doesn’t sound like an ideal engine package.

Your ridgeline has 280hp 262lb-ft of torque. This engine has 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Its 9000.00, you would get way more bang for your buck with mods to your existing power plant.
