I am in this moment building a Set Cube of each of the four Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Sets. I skipped these sets during my schooldays and I've regretted that ever since. So now that I am a working and money making individual, I've started gathering those cards. BUT: They are very hard to come by nowadays, so I bought the common and uncommon sets that I could find, and as for the rares, I had to proxy nearly each and everyone. I spent a lot of money on this project, I put a lot of passion and time into it. All for an opportunity to enter this beautiful and mysterious world which seemingly had closed its' gates on me forever. I regret nothing.
I'm rather new to magic but the aesthetic of Lorwin was very attractive to me (and I love merfolk.) I was curious about the lore and hoping for a new set based on the plane. Now I'm hooked! What a fascinating world! And you did an amazing job in getting us up to speed on this fantastic plane and lore!

Oh, Lorwyn; my introduction to magic. That elf precon took me pretty far, and I still use an upgraded version of it from time to time when I get to play Modern.
I really hope we'll get back to lorwyn/shadowmoor some day. The duality of it makes it so unique and interesting, and then I have not even started to talk about the beautiful artstyle the world has had so far. Sadly OG lorwyn was well before my time, but this video gave a huge insight into a world that despite that was already one of my favorites. Huge thanks and great job
I agree so much! When looking at old sets, lorwyn and shadowmoor often jump out as my favorites and I hope we return there one day. Maybe even with the daybound/nightbound mechanic!
3 ravnica set , 3 innastrad sets, 3 zendikar sets, 2 theros sets. That is so sad knowing how much can be done on other planes yet we get the same old planes.
Blocks. There were 9 ravnica sets but 3 blocks. There were 6 zendikar sets but 2 blocks and one stand-alone set. There are so far 2 innistrad blocks and 2 non-block sets (with midnight hunt and crimson vow not being technically a block). Theros got 4 sets, 3 in the original block and 1 standalone.
As a fanatic of fantasy lore, I must say this is some great content! Your narration is very good, and the visual effects on the artwork is stunning! I’d love to see more in-depth videos of prominent planes in the MTG multiverse.
I remember when Lorwyn came out, I was adamant on making a faeries decks, even through the only fairies we had before Lorwyn were some crappy Green ones and that one who untap lands. Man, was I relieved to see a faerie tribal right before my eyes. Hahahhaha
An excellent video, loved Lorwyn back in the day. That entire year (2007-08) centered around the block (4 sets, not 3), so Wizards had enough time to flesh out and craft a good story. Compared to Wizards of today who half-ass their stories and new planes in a single set, this video truly brings back happier memories of a better, more competent product and hobby. I hope you do Alara next!

My first Plane when I started collecting MTG. I remember when Planeswalkers was just a term for Players and the Planeswaker cards was a radical change. I miss Tribal Sorceries and Instants.

Heck, besides Elf, ALL of Lor/Sha's races should get one. Don't see a lot of groundlings, noggles, giants, duergar, flamekin or gwyllions walking the planes either.
@@Gashnaw I did a count earlier today; there are at least TEN planes that _Giants_ appear in. TEN, and they're something everyone would recognize and you wouldn't have to explain to an outsider like you would a kor, soratami or vedalken. The anthrocentrism is so strong, something as basic as a GIANT can't friggin' be a 'walker. Boo.
@@christopherb501 heh. Yet we have each of those. And not everyone follows the lore. Do shifting Ashling intona PW or creating a new flamekin would be sweet. (I love lorwyn. Favorite plane..would love some of that back) MTG influences a lot of my DnD worlds. Lorwyn, innistrad, ravnica, amonkhet, theros, ikoria, ixalan kaladesh, kalheim. Sure it maybbe borad but theybare not all in the same world. My player will have portals at first but i plan to pull a page from MTG and have "sparks ignite" but have them not quite sure how to control it. So they start popping into other planes.
This is every bit as good as I hoped!! I love Lorwyn, and in particular its unique take on tribes such as Elves and Goblins. I feel a great attachement to this plane, and hope we'll go back there in the future!
I love this setting. Both Lorwyn//Morningtide, AND Shadowmoor//Eventide Love the demigod//Liege cycles. Hell, I even ran a divinity of Pride, and Deathbringer Liege in my vampire deck...:p
An interesting fact is that Jace actually visits Lorwyn during the third part of the secretist where he encountered the minds of the kithkin thought web which would play a major role in resolving the events of Dragons maze. When I thought about this I realized we did not know how long ago Oona had cast her spell before the aura unexpectedly came. Meaning that it could already be back to normal. If this is the case then they could easily introduce new mechanics or even flip cards to represent the day night cycle.
@@AetherHub I loved Tarkir prior to the time travel change. The wedge tribes were so much more interesting than the dragon tribes that replaced them. Thanks, Sarkhan 😒
When I was a kid, and I was learning MTG during Urza's Block, Treefolk always confused me. I thought Treefolk were folk that lived in trees not the trees themselves. I was 10 lol.
I never played during this era, having quit magic long before. But I've heard people talk fondly about it many times. Thanks for the story telling and the work!

Wow, I've wanted to get more into mtg lore but always felt overwhelmed by not knowing where to start. This made me realize that maybe I should just explore the history as I find it and not worry about a begging and end

It only finally got disrupted due to Colfenor's machinations, one of the few beings that managed to retain their identity (or at least memories) from phase to phase, and in part due to the next Great Aurora being bumped up in the rotation due to interference from Dominaria's temporal catastrophes.
Can’t think of this plane without Terese Nielsen. 😢 Thank you for your deep dive. There isn’t a card from these sets that I don’t like. Novels are great also.
I found Magic on Lorwyn (just started playing on Ixalan). I become enamoured with the duality of the plane. I really wish Wizards returns to this beautiful and sinister plane to see how it looks like with a regular day-night cycle. I'd love it to be similar to the daybound/nightbound mechanic introduced on Innistrad. I'd also love to see what Oona becomes at night on Shadowmoor.
There's no telling what state the faeries will be in upon a return. They've been rendered effectively immune to the Great Aurora for millennia, the Queen herself included, naturally. Now bound to the same base planar properties as everyone else, should the mutagenic properties of the day/night cycle remain intact, they will appear very, _very_ different.
Ive had a goblin deck since Lorwyn was released. Ive pushed for everyone to have a goblin deck for 'goblin games'. But i never realized how much I identify with the Boggart, and not with the elves haha. I feel good to have embraced the pie and fun-loving Boggart.
You crushed it on this one. Loved it! FYI - in our world, Rhys is pronounced Reese. Not sure if the pronunciation is given for the MTG Rhys, but it’s a Welsh name.
Man, I remember this from my days back in high school. My first, real exposure to the lore of mtg. Had a mean wither deck of elves and trolls. My favorite tribe although were the Merrow and Giants.
Here something that seems to be forgotten, a tiny detail after Time Spiral came out was that the events on Dominaria was what allowed the other problems on the other planes to happen. Like, Ravnica used to have a second realm of spirits (Agyrem) over them, and that's what caused many of the spirits to linger on Ravnica. After the Great Mending, Agyrem disappeared. The events on Dominaria also weakened the barriers between the world of the Kami and the world of Humans on Kamigawa, which lead to the Kami War. And I think it was mentioned that the events on Dominaria that also split Lorwyn and Shadowmoor in two. So after the Great Mending, maybe it's back to whatever kind of normal it was before.
The way I remember it was that Oona was able to tap in the the sundering and all that time shenanigan that happened on Dominaria to draw out the day and night. The mending was what broke Oona's power to have such a long day/night. Of course I could be totally off it has been years since I read the Lorwyn and Shadowmoor books. The one thing that I really am hoping for (though not holding my breath) is a revisit to this plane. I LOVE the lore of the plane. Sure Ravnica and Innistrad are great and fun and all but come one build on this gem.
I love this block so much! One of my favorite decks is a Giant deck mostly comprised of these sets. There are some older cards and newer cards in it also.
I have been wanting wotc to revisit lorwyn, mirrodin, and the other planes we've only been to for a couple times at most. Instead we've had to go to ravnica, zendikar, dominaria and innistrad 3 or more times. Don't get me wrong I like most of the revisited planes but it is starting to get stagnant. But maybe we can go back next year.
I absolutely LOVE the lore of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor. I am just really sad that it is not as popular in the general player base and we won't go back to it.

Question to all: of all the tribes as presented on Lor/Sha, given even if we've seen a specific race elsewhere, it wasn't in a form seen here - in either mode - which would you most want to see a planeswalker emerge from?
Honestly. I’m a Kithkin guy. We have seen so many white aligned humans. We need a new white Planeswalker and a Kithkin would be perfect. Not big and brawly. But kind and compassionate. Willing to push themselves just to help friends.
Love the video, it is great so far but man that stock tree being tossed over the beautiful magic art is distracting 1:24 On the other hand the deer at the start was SUPURBLY done so mixed bag, keep it up :)

Man, I remember this from my days back in high school. My first, real exposure to the lore of mtg. Had a mean wither deck of elves and trolls. My favorite tribe although were the Merrow and Giants.
Here something that seems to be forgotten, a tiny detail after Time Spiral came out was that the events on Dominaria was what allowed the other problems on the other planes to happen.
Like, Ravnica used to have a second realm of spirits (Agyrem) over them, and that's what caused many of the spirits to linger on Ravnica. After the Great Mending, Agyrem disappeared.
The events on Dominaria also weakened the barriers between the world of the Kami and the world of Humans on Kamigawa, which lead to the Kami War.
And I think it was mentioned that the events on Dominaria that also split Lorwyn and Shadowmoor in two. So after the Great Mending, maybe it's back to whatever kind of normal it was before.
The way I remember it was that Oona was able to tap in the the sundering and all that time shenanigan that happened on Dominaria to draw out the day and night. The mending was what broke Oona's power to have such a long day/night.
Of course I could be totally off it has been years since I read the Lorwyn and Shadowmoor books.
The one thing that I really am hoping for (though not holding my breath) is a revisit to this plane. I LOVE the lore of the plane. Sure Ravnica and Innistrad are great and fun and all but come one build on this gem.
You're doing a great job, if this continues to drive you. Keep it going my man! Also appreciate the Darkshire/WoW music.

I love this block so much! One of my favorite decks is a Giant deck mostly comprised of these sets. There are some older cards and newer cards in it also.

I have been wanting wotc to revisit lorwyn, mirrodin, and the other planes we've only been to for a couple times at most. Instead we've had to go to ravnica, zendikar, dominaria and innistrad 3 or more times. Don't get me wrong I like most of the revisited planes but it is starting to get stagnant. But maybe we can go back next year.
I absolutely LOVE the lore of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor. I am just really sad that it is not as popular in the general player base and we won't go back to it.
Anyone think the Day/Night mechanic is foreshadowing a Return to Lorwyn set??

Question to all: of all the tribes as presented on Lor/Sha, given even if we've seen a specific race elsewhere, it wasn't in a form seen here - in either mode - which would you most want to see a planeswalker emerge from?
Honestly. I’m a Kithkin guy. We have seen so many white aligned humans. We need a new white Planeswalker and a Kithkin would be perfect. Not big and brawly. But kind and compassionate. Willing to push themselves just to help friends.
I'd like to see a giant and tree folk planes walker personally, I just think they'd be really cool 🥺
