Great to see you again sieben and thank you for your awesome videos. You are the reason I am a vorthos and I hope that your other projects are going well as well.
Great video - really enjoyed the chronology that you set up within the 25 minutes I spent with you on Zendikar! Few questions regarding lore though - firstly, I thought that Ugin was the spirit dragon way before he even met with Sorin and Naihiri and didn't become so before reappearing on Zendikar to tutor Jace. Question the second - you mentioned that the reason Naihiri sealed herself in stone was to extend her life, but I thought that as an Old Walker she was effectively immortal? Thirdly, you mentioned that in Zendikar Rising we'll see the world as Nissa knew it, pre-eldrazi corruption... Isn't Nissa a NewWalker, so wouldn't her entire life be the eldrazi had been sealed on Zendikar, meaning this world will be different for her too?
Ugin, became the spirit dragon when Bolas killed him on the meditation realm when he dived into it's waters and came back something more, its in the core set lore.
Wasnt Ob Nixilis' spark suppressed by a hedron placed on him by Nahiri and was later removed by Jace to put in Garruk or is the whole early mtg digital games non canon?
So... Nicol Bolas knew of the Eldrazi from Ugin, and was the one who planned to release the Eldrazi, which eventually led to the formation of the Gatewatch, and that same Gatewatch eventually defeated Nicol Bolas in Ravnica with the help of Ugin. What the hell, Bolas!
Was there a retcon? The MTG wiki says that Ob Nixilis lost his spark because Nahiri stuck the hedron in his skull. Edit: Also at about 6:50 , you say that Nahiri encased herself in stone to extend her "mortal life". It's my understanding that, as a pre-mending planeswalker, she was immortal. Additionally, I remember reading a story (which I can no longer find) which recounted how she had lived alongside the Kor but eventually grew detached as she was timeless and they were mortal, doomed to die over and over. So she eventually retired to slumber in the stone (attached to the pulse of the world essentially) to only awaken when needed. Then she woke up and discovered vampires and went "???"
Gideon: Hi Chandra I hear you like big burly men. Chandra does not answer just stares at Nissa dreamily as if that action in itself was all the spoken words needed between them :) I think my favorite story from the Zendikar block is about General Tazri surviving the time distortion effects of Kozilek.
You got part of the lore incorrect. Sorin knew very well that Nahiri couldn't light the signal because he trapped her inside the Hellvault. Sorin was only confused as to why Ugin didn't signal and why Ugin never came to Zendikar.
And you also skipped over the part about Ob Nixilis getting confronted by Nahiri after he damaged his spark. Nahiri then stuck a Hedron on his forehead to seal more of the remainder of his power. In "Duels of the Planeswalkers" we find out Jace was the one who defeats Ob Nixilis. Jace then removes the hedron from Ob Nixilis' forehead believing Ob Nixilis was dead.
I was thinking the same thing regarding Nahiri being in the Helvault. But at the same time, I'm a little confused there still. I know she was sealed in the Helvault alongside Avacyn and Griselbrand. But wasn't the Helvault destroyed, freeing them, in the first Innistrad block? Thus the return to it, where Avacyn had been corrupted. And when it was destroyed, Nahiri was set free and attacked Sorin for everything he had done, but he managed to hold her off. But she had also been corrupted. Something like that, details are fuzzy to me. My confusion lies more in the timing of that. I could have sworn Nahiri being released was before Sorin visited Ugin, before Sarkhan Vol brought dragons back to Tarkir, before the Eldrazi were released, in which case it brings back the question of why she didn't join the fight to save Zendikar. Or am I wrong and her release, the destruction of the Helvault, happened after or even during the Gatewatch's fight to save Zendikar?
The timeline is Zendikar - Worldwake - Rise of the Eldrazi - Innistrad - Dark Ascension - Avacyn Restored - Battle for Zendikar - Oath of the Gatewatch - Shadows Over Innistrad - Eldritch Moon. Zendikar - Jace, Chandra, and Sarkhan Vol inadvertently unlock the seal for the Eldrazi. Worldwake - Nissa and Sorin travel to the Eye of Ugin. Nissa betrays Sorin in the intent. Instead of redoing the seal, Nissa completely undoes it hoping the Eldrazi escape Zendikar, the world that held them hostage for so long. Rise of the Eldrazi - Gideon fights the Eldrazi. He figures out he can't fight them alone and leaves to recruit other Planeswalkers. Innistrad - Not much happens in story. It just introduces us to how things work in Innistrad but we do find out Avacyn is missing and that the moon has great effect over the denizens of Innistrad. Dark Ascension - Sorin comes back to Innistrad to find that his angel, Avacyn, has gone missing. The power balance has shifted and humans are getting overrun. The city gates have fallen. Cities are getting breached. Avacyn Restored - Liliana uses an ultimatum black spell to destroy the Hellvault (look at her ability for the set). Nahiri, Avacyn and Griselbrand are released. Liliana kills Griselbrand in a surprise preemptive strike. Battle for Zendikar - Nahiri returns to find the Eldrazi have devastated her home world and forsakes it believing it is beyond saving. Ugin gives Jace advice on how to stop the Eldrazi. Oath of the Gatewatch - The Gatewatch alongside Kiora defeat Kozilek and Ulamog. Shadows Over Innistrad - Nahiri created a beacon to attract the Eldrazi to Innistrad. Emrakul encroaches upon the plane corrupting Avacyn and Jace. Liliana takes Jace to Tamiyo who "repairs" his mind. Eldritch Moon - Nahiri defeats Sorin and traps him. She leaves him to watch helplessly trapped and unable to stop the devastation of his world the way he did to her. The Gatewatch with the help of Tamiyo manage to seal Emrakul inside of Innistrad's Moon.
these days i constantly find myself saying “the MTG story isn’t that bad, actually. there are some really cool parts...” **AND THEN BOLAS APPEARED** “...never mind.”
This video reminded me of why I hate the stupid lizard. I mean, what did he think when he planned for the release of the eldrazi? The motivation stated felt like they pulled that out of their asses to drive the plot forward. Nicol Bolas has no actual motivations or personality except for being an amalgamation of every villain-cliché.
Nice video, but you got the timeframe between the Nissa shattering the last seal and the return of Gideon with help only took the span of a single year, not three
Oh my gosh! I love World of Warcraft. It is my favorite game. I am usually annoyed by calls to action, but I am really interested in the second channel. I am going to check it out. I also like Magic the Gathering. I got into that game much later. In this video, I learned a lot about what Zendikar is like. It is basically the Magic the Gathering plane with a Lovecraft theme. The idea of the mana and life of the world is interesting. It is also noteworthy for having the gatewatch. I find this group interesting. There is Nissa, Chandra, Jace and Gideon. I have noticed something. There is no Lilliana in this video. I wonder what happened to her. I am used to her being with the other four. Oh well. Sorin does have black, like she does. Maybe he takes her place in this story. In a way, the Eldrazi titans are the Magic the Gathering version of the Old God in World of Warcraft. Between those two games having Lovecraft and eldrich abominations is a thing.
Bolas' motivations are exceptionally stupid for a being of his supposed intelligence. "OK, these Eldrazi could challenge even me if they got loose. So I'm going to arrange for them to get loose, and for these heroes to fight them to see if the heroes are capable of fighting me." So..... if the Eldrazi win, Bolas has already conceded that they're more powerful than him, and now they're loose. If the heroes win, they're more powerful than the Eldrazi that Bolas has already said would be a challenge.
What happened to the whole part where sorin goes to zendikar alone to stop the eldrazi from escaping. And sorin teams up with nissa to solve the problem until she betrays him and frees the eldrazi. Then he dips to safe guard innistrad
I want to know more about omnath, it's easy to see that he has had three cards so far and each new one adds a color, and in the artwork we've seen it looks like they are throwing white in next. What's up with that?

Sooo Nihiri is after Sorin's head because his emergency eldrazi solution blocked her call for help...and now they want each other dead...? *WHAT THE HELL?!* They're trying to kill each other over a damn *MISUNDERSTANDING?!*
If I understand correctly, it was a couple misunderstandings, Sorin was a bit of a dick about it, and then Nahiri called Emrakul to Innistrad, and it escalated from there.
the fact that they blew them up is still the 2nd worst thing wizards has done to magic lore after like all of the war of the spark it still makes no sense.
Nissa's reasoning was more about thinking that setting the Titans free would mean they'd just leave Zendikar behind after having being trapped in it for so long. Her distrust for Sorin's reinforcement was that Zendikar would still have to deal with the side effects of keeping the Titans in it.
How are the Eldrazi able to be trapped when their physical manifestations are just avatars? They exist as beings of mana essence, can't they just create a new avatar?
You can take the analogy of Ugin, when the man (one of the titan) put his hand in the pond (its avatar), the fish can bite them and trap their hand so the human can't remove his hand of the pond But you can also explain that by the rules of MTG, they're logic in the lore even if it can seem weird outside of the lore
My lore thirst is now quenched
And then comes the thought erasure
I hate they killed two of the eldrazi by burning them, but I like that it was through channel + fireball
A few things let me accept it. First they just burned their physical forms right? the actual ''eldrazi'' whatever that may be could well still exist in the blind eternities.

Who said the eldrazi are dead for all we know they could still be alive.
awesome!
Yay. More Zendikar. Woo.
-_-
Thanks for the lore drive, it was great. Just so tired of this plane.
More kamigawa. Aka more ninjaaaas
yeeeah!! great video
Thank you now if the next zendikar fat pack doesnt have a guide i can count on you to fill me in
you are talking about lore, right?
dante casalla yea I get most of my lore from word of mouth or the guides from fat packs
missed you
Thanks for this. video.
Okay since the eldrazi are in innistrad eating which one would you rather see slivers or myr or the phyrexian or a combination of all three
Holy crap the amount of ADs i got during this vid was longer then the video itself
People have said this before but I just used the normal YT mid ad break algorithm. How many ads did you get?
Ad blockers are amazing
the fact that they blew them up is still the 2nd worst thing wizards has done to magic lore after like all of the war of the spark it still makes no sense.
If you think war of the spark lore is bad then I advice not to look at the planeswalkers' design
Can you cover the last apex of ikorai Vadrok the apex of thunder im curious of its lore
Thank God ! Hahahaha we thought we lost you ! Hahahaha
didn’t Ob become a demon when his spark ignited and he sold out his home plane to its demons?
Yay a noob guide for a noob! Glad you’re good and it’s not health related! I don’t even play the game, it’s just a cool story.
Oh hello there!
What about Yarok?
Are the books any good?
Sorin did encounter Nahiri though....and Nissa only destroys it because she thinks Sorin will betray her....
Nissa's reasoning was more about thinking that setting the Titans free would mean they'd just leave Zendikar behind after having being trapped in it for so long. Her distrust for Sorin's reinforcement was that Zendikar would still have to deal with the side effects of keeping the Titans in it.
Kinda disappointed that you left out everyone's favorite blobby elemental, Omnom.
How are the Eldrazi able to be trapped when their physical manifestations are just avatars? They exist as beings of mana essence, can't they just create a new avatar?
You can take the analogy of Ugin, when the man (one of the titan) put his hand in the pond (its avatar), the fish can bite them and trap their hand so the human can't remove his hand of the pond
But you can also explain that by the rules of MTG, they're logic in the lore even if it can seem weird outside of the lore
