It's always a pleasure listening to Dr. ShivShankar Menon. His deep understanding of the subject at hand and his erudite view, throws a lot of interesting perspectives to the listener. Thanks for doing this interview with him!

What an insightful interview. Loved the way how the interviewer started asking prepared question and later everything became conversational.

India is not wasting time. India has NO capabilities. If India has capabilities, it won't get conquered by so many foreigners in history. This is STATE OF EXISTENCE. They can ONLY TALK. They don't have the ability to DO ANYTHING. They will definitely improve and progress, but only rise as the humanity improves and progresses. They are always that mediocre something on in the back of the bus. Keeps talking, and let the bus drive them forward.

Gr8 to hear this !! With all due respect 57:15, this idea of national interest triumphing domestic political interest is a privilege that foreign policy practitioners enjoy. That may not be the case with bureaucrats dealing with subjects like health, education, infrastructure etc.

Menon is clear minded and knows what he speaks. About the interviewer………..
Further, it appears to me that Menon has an axe to grind with PM Modi, or his way of work, especially when he talks of BRI. At least, to me it didn’t appear that India went around even obliquely conveying that ‘I told you so’ in this context. There are several other indicators too that confirm this. There is some irritation in his voice on present dispensation, but the reasons are best known to him.

As a NSA Menon didn't leave any mark - he was a mediocre IAS officer but with a false belief that he is the most intelligent NSA India ever produced. So was another NSA Mr Narayanan. They did nothing to protect the security of the country when bomb blasts were common so was Maoist attacks.

    Just some historical fact here:
    1. In 1842, the 1st opium war was fought by China against the British invasion.
Also in the same year, Indian seized the opportunity, initialised a sudden attack and backstabbed the Chinese at Ladakh.
    2. During the great British rule of india, indian troop had helped their white masters to plunger Chinese towns & villages, committed arsons, massacre and mass rapes in China.
    3. From 1959 -1961, a great famine broke out in China causing million of deaths there.
At the same period, again, Nehru seized this opportunity and started the forward policy at sino-indo border and advanced their forward military posts beyond Indian own held positions at the border then, destroying the chinese forts and killed Chinese soldiers indiscriminately . Ultimately it lead to the total retaliation from Chinese PLA in 1962 a.k.a. SIno-Indo war.

    • @tupolevi
      @tupolevi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

The so called actual line of control by Indian:
The problem is, there was actually NO BORDER between China and India. The so-called BORDER was drawn by the Brits on the map. China never recognized it and India as nation was not even a nation when those lines were drawn unilaterally by Brits. Brits engineered the Tibetan Independence twice. The renegades signed the paper with Brits claiming those lines were legit. But Chinese central government (both during Nationalist government and during Communist government) came into Tibet and crushed the independence movement. But from Brits perspective, they got someone signed some papers and that is that. It does not matter if there is legitimacy. Brits just wanted confusion, and an excuse hang onto whatever they drawn on the map.
Then India as a nation was founded. The largest servant group, the Hindus, took over the India the Subcontinent conquered by their former White Master the Brits. And the Hindus claimed whatever the Brits claimed. So, here we are, 70 years later.

lol... again. Another self delusional comparison that Chinese and Indian are similar.
    - The armies in Shang dynasty defeated the indo Aryan whereas indian got conquered by them. proof: The captured leaders were used for human sacrifice and their soldiers remains were still kept inside the museum in Henan province for display.
    - Chinese culture, philosophy and social norms e.g. integrity, honesty, piety, humbleness were long existed since their Zhou dynasty.
    - Current systems that are still practised by the Chinese e.g. political, diplomatic, military tactics/ strategy, writings.. They are the same or similar systems that existed since Qin dynasty.
    - Religious: The only belief the Chinese have are their ancestry heritage and their pride as Chinese.
Chinese is the only standing continue Civilisation on Earth in the world today whereas India is totally a different entity to the ancient Harrapan civilisation or the Asoka's one.
