Up until now I would say that Byrna needed to stick with what made them great, their handheld launcher. I don't believe jacking up the price on a couple of paintball rifles makes any sense for customer retention. I have to say I'm highly impressed by this, definitely a move in the right direction for a great less-lethal company.
You can fire these out of a regular shotgun, you only need to buy ammo

I like that it can be used with any 12-gauge shotgun. I assume it generates enough force to cycle the semi-automatic shotguns? That’s always a risk with less lethal loads.

I do think these rounds are going to present an interesting legal question I don’t hear anyone talking about. The shotgun is still considered a deadly weapon under most legal statutes in most jurisdictions. The mere fact of presenting a shotgun in a situation where deadly force wouldn’t be authorized may have some serious legal consequences. This is why in most law enforcement agencies’ policy and procedures the threat of deadly force is required before the less lethal bean bag shotgun can be utilized. It is also only supposed to be utilized when lethal cover is present and time and space allow for it’s potential use.
I really like the concept and have been impressed with the SHOT show demonstration videos that have been posted. I spent many years in law enforcement and these are some of the questions that immediately came to mind when I saw this fist teased last spring. In reality this should probably only be deployed when the justified use of deadly force would be authorized. I’m just concerned that unlike pepper spray, air powered pepper projectiles (such as Byrna or PepperBall), or the Taser, people could be bringing out a deadly weapon when the situation wouldn’t justify the use of deadly force. It might have some serious legal consequences for some well-intentioned people. I would really like to hear an attorney’s perspective on this!

I know they can make Simunition that can be fired from rifles and pistols. Maybe Byrna can do something similar with their pepper ball rounds?
I suspect the market for Byrna's "non-lethal" shotgun shells will be negatively affected by their price; $6 apiece seems awful high; I haven't purchased standard or "shorty" shells in years, but I would guess they're a LOT cheaper than that. BTW, the profile of the Byrna shell looks like one of the "A-Bombs" this Nation dropped on Japan in 1945.

Just make sure you shave the front site bead off your shotgun so when the bear shoves it up your a$$ it doesnt hurt as much

The law enforcement less lethal shotguns are standard models with an orange (usually) stock and forearm. The Remington 870 Police Magnum has been available from the factory in that configuration for a long time (SpeedFeed stock). Magpul and Hogue also offer the orange less lethal sticks. LAPD has unified their less lethal color as “LAPD Less Lethal Green.” It is used on all of their beam bag shotguns, Taser X26P, and their patrol 40mm launcher.
