If they only gave me one pistol to protect myself on an alien planet. The Glock 17 is my choice. Not saying others are bad like CZ, HK, Beretta, etc.

I would say carry what you are comfortable carrying. Loaded gun no chambered is better than no gun

You forgot to mention the slightly flared mag well is new on the Gen5.
If this is too bog, instead of the 19 where you lose 2 rounds, just get the 45, keep 17 rounds, and lose the 17 length slide.

Glock did a number of changes on the internals of the actual gun also in the Gen 5.
