  • How to replace rear transmission seal chevy Silverado 4l80E There are TONS of videos on how to remove the drive shaft so I figured viewers didn't want to be bothered with another one!
    -Short clip showing how to get the old output shaft seal out of the transmission with no special tools! just a hammer and a flat head screw driver.

    Buy a seal removal tool at napa or harbor freight. Not expensive. Small Section of Pvc pipe of similar size to drive the new seal in. One and done. Check your driveshaft yoke and carefully remove anything that may cause the seal to leak

    Removing a seal that way will almost guarantee it’ll leak forever.
    Do it the right way.

      That’s why I repeat (being careful) multiple times in the video. But yeah. If you score up the sides it will damage it. This seal hasn’t leaked since the replacement was done. 👍🏼

    I might tackle this myself - my mechanic seems to think this is going to be difficult even with the transmission out of the van. I'll take my chances on a leak if it saves me labor and only costs time to do over and maybe $40 in seals. Thanks for the video! By the way - my seal has a boot on it, but it looks like replacement should be the same as non-booted

    • @HandsOnDismantler
      @HandsOnDismantler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made it seem harder than it is in the video. There’s actual tools that are sold that can pull the seal out without risking damage. But I was showing how to do it without special tools. Just take your time and be careful a flat head screw driver can damage the transmission easily.

    What year is the truck I’m trying to figure out what transmission I have it looks the same as this one… ls swapped my truck with a gen 4 6.0 block bored to 6.2 but I just don’t know what truck this transmission came out of and AutoZone is no help if I don’t have the year make and model 🤦‍♂️

    • @HandsOnDismantler
      @HandsOnDismantler  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did the 6.0 come with the trans? If it did then it’s a 4l80. This is on a 2002 Silverado with the 4l80. But the trans seal looks the same almost across all v8’s. Have you checked the trans for any markings? If it’s bolted to a 6.0 then it should be a 4l80 but I wouldn’t know for sure.

      Hi Miguel, that’s hard to answer because every auto parts store will have a different part numbers. Your best option is to go to your local auto parts store or website and enter your vehicle info.

    I replaced it and started leaking again what do i do???

    • @HandsOnDismantler
      @HandsOnDismantler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big_Boi _Josh is it leaking from the inner or outter part of the seal? If it’s leaking “inner” where the shaft goes into it then it’s possible the seal is an incorrect part. If it’s leaking outter part where it meets with the transmission then it was not installed flush or could have been damaged during install.

      I've got trans fluid leaking out of my universal joint near the tail shaft. What does it mean??
      Like the fluid is coming thru the slip yoke and out of the u joint

    • @HandsOnDismantler
      @HandsOnDismantler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@john6276 where the drive shaft bolts to the rear end? Are you sure that’s trans fluid? That should be gear oil. There’s no oil in the yolks so you more than likely have a leak where the rear end meets with the drive shaft

    • @john6276
